• Time to ignore IDisposable?

  Certainly we should call Dipose() on IDisposable objects as soon as we don't need them (which is often merely the scope of a "using" statement). If we don't take that precaution then bad things, from subtle to show-stopping, might happen. But what about "the last moment" before process termination? If your IDisposables have not been explicitly disposed by that point in time, isn't it true that it no longer matters? I ask because unmanaged resources, beneath the CLR, are represented by kernel objects - and the win32 process termination will free all unmanaged resources / kernel objects anyway. Said differently, no resources will remain "leaked" after the process terminates (regardless if Dispose() was called on lingering IDisposables). Can anyone think of a case where process termination would still leave a leaked resource, simply because Dispose() was not explicitly called on one or more IDisposables? Please do not misunderstand this question: I am not trying to justify ignoring IDisposables. The question is just technical-theoretical.

  TLDR: Want to get each heading from an array and insert it into a div without knowing what is inside the div using Jquery - getJSON. I have JSON array lets say: jsonfeed({ "items": [ { "d":{"title":"034324324-22344231-10"} }, { "d"{"title":"23423404-3423422-10"} }, { "d"{"title":"0234234324-32432422-10"} }, { "d"{"title":"0234234324-223534534-10"} ] }) And I want to parse it as for each "title" to insert it into a div. Trying along the lines of $.getJSON(url, function(data){ $.each(data.items, function(i,item){ $('#testfield').html('<p>' + item.d.title + '</p>'); }); }); to no avail. I am using Getjson in other places but in cases where I know what request I am making. e.g: $('#livetime').html(data.Time); Which is all working perfectly fine but in this case I need to get the details out of the array without knowing what is inside the array I'm sure there is something simple that I'm missing here or doing wrong ^^.

• resolving incidents (closing cases) in CRM4 through webservices?

  Hello everybody, I'm trying to resolve/close Dynamics CRM4 cases/incidents through webservices. A single SetStateIncidentRequest is not enough and returns a Server was unable to process request error message. I think it has something to do with active workflows that trigger on case's attribute changes. I don't know if there's anything else preventing the request to work. Since it is possible to close those cases through the GUI, I guess there's a "correct" set of steps to follow in order to achieve it through CrmService; unfortunately, I've been googleing it for a while without finding what I want. Could anybody help me, please?

  Hello, I've used "Google AJAX Transliteration API" and it's going well with me. http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxlanguage/documentation/referenceTransliteration.html Currently I've a project that I need all input fields in every page (input & textarea tags) to be transliteratable, while these input fields differs from page to page (dynamic). As I know, I've to call makeTransliteratable(elementIds, opt_options) method in the API call to define which input fields to make transliteratable, and in my case here I can't predefine those fields manually. • GpsSatellite.getSnr() - What is the value range?

  I'm building a Sat-View that draws a small bar-chart for available satellites and their signal strength (or better: their signal-to-noise-ratio / SNR). The javadoc doesn't say what value-range to expect for the SNR. The NMEA-Standard says 0-99, but even in best conditions my G1 doesn't reach that value. I also read that different manufacturers use different value-ranges for the SNR, so is that true for android-devices, too? Or is there a unified value range on that plattform and if so, what is it? The lack of information in the docs leads me to suspect I just get the "raw" SNR from the driver, in which case I'd like to know: What do you think is the best approach to visualize that unknown value-range in a bar-chart?

• Are there any real benefits to including javascript dynamically rather than as script tags at the bo

  I've read that including the scripts dynamically may provide some better performance, however i'm not really seeing that on the small local tests I'm doing. I created a jquery plugin to dynamically load other plugins as necessary and am curious as to if this is actually a good idea.   Only comments associated with the current page should be listed, so once again the query is modified to include the page ID. In this case, though, we also have to pass the pageid argument, which will in turn get passed to any h.url_for() calls in the paginator. from http://pylonsbook.com/en/1.1/simplesite-tutorial-part-2.html i cannot get this to work, the paginator does not pass things to the h.url_for, i followed the tutorial. i had to add pageid to the h.url_for in list.html. how do i solve? part of the code: ${h.link_to( comment.id, h.url_for( controller=u'comment', action='view', id=unicode(comment.id) ) )} but it does not work properly until i put in ${h.link_to( comment.id, h.url_for( controller=u'comment', action='view', id=unicode(comment.id), pageid = c.page.id ) )}

• Determine fonts used in postscript (.ps) file

  Given a postscript file that has the following header %!PS-Adobe-3.0 I would like to list all fonts used in the file. The output does not have to be perfect, but I need to make sure I get all references to any font being used. I am aware there are different types of fonts, and that a font may or may not be embedded in the postscript file. My current best idea is to grep/search for the word Font case insensitively and go from there. Will this get me all the font references? Any better way to achieve this? I tend to use .NET/C# for development purposes, but any solution is appreciated. Thanks, Bernard

• When should assertions stay in production code?

  Hi all, There's a discussion going on over at comp.lang.c++.moderated about whether or not assertions, which in C++ only exist in debug builds by default, should be kept in production code or not. Obviously, each project is unique, so my question here is not so much whether assertions should be kept, but in which cases this is recommendable/not a good idea. By assertion, I mean: A run-time check that tests a condition which, when false, reveals a bug in the software. A mechanism by which the program is halted (maybe after really minimal clean-up work). I'm not necessarily talking about C or C++. My own opinion is that if you're the programmer, but don't own the data (which is the case with most commercial desktop applications), you should keep them on, because a failing asssertion shows a bug, and you should not go on with a bug, with the risk of corrupting the user's data. This forces you to test strongly before you ship, and makes bugs more visible, thus easier to spot and fix. What's your opinion/experience? Cheers, Carl See related question here

• Delphi overwrite existing file on save dialog

  Hello everyone, I am using the TSaveDialog component to save a file from a button click. However, I am having trouble with saving on an existing file name. Generally, when you want to save over an existing file in Windows, a message box pops up asking you if you really want to overwrite the file. This is not the case with the TSaveDialog component and it will go ahead and write over the file without asking. I was hoping there was a TSaveDialog function or event that I could use but I have not seen anything that looks like it handles this. So it could be that I simplely haven't found the correct method to use. If there is an event, I could use if FileExists(saveDialog.FileName) then //and so forth but the events TSaveDialog has are OnCanClose, OnClose, OnFolderChange, OnIncludeItem, OnSelectionChange, OnShow, OnTypeChange... My question is, how do I pop up a message box to ask the user if they want to overwrite the existing file using the TSaveDialog component. Thanks.

  From a UserControl, I would like to disable a ScrollViewer which is defined one level higher. My scenario looks something like this: <!-- ... --> <ScrollViewer VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Disabled"> <custom:MyUserControl ... /> </ScrollViewer> Now, I would like to disable the ScrollViewer from within MyUserControl. Is this possible? Background: I have defined a custom TabControl style where I added a ScrollViewer for each item's content automatically. However, in one case, I do not want to use that ScrollViewer, but rather make the content size to the available space, whereas in all other cases I do want to use the ScrollViewer. Any ideas? Of course, I could add a ScrollViewer to every tab item manually, except for the one item, but that is not what I want.

• Drupal: Create custom search

  I'm trying to create a custom search but getting stuck. What I want is to have a dropdownbox so the user can choose where to search in. These options can mean 1 or more content types. So if he chooses options A, then the search will look in node-type P,Q,R. But he may not give those results, but only the uid's which will be then themed to gather specific data for that user. To make it a little bit clearer, Suppose I want to llok for people. The what I'm searching in is 2 content profile types. But ofcourse you dont want to display those as a result, but a nice picture of the user and some data. I started with creating a form with a textfield and the dropdown box. Then, in the submit handler, i created the keys and redirected to another pages with those keys as a tail. This page has been defined in the menu hook, just like how search does it. After that I want to call hook_view to do the actual search by calling node_search, and give back the results. Unfortunately, it goes wrong. When i click the Search button, it gives me a 404. But am I on the right track? Is this the way to create a custom search? Thx for your help. • Can YQL parse web sites requiring cookie-based authentication?

  First, my use case: I'm trying to use YQL's built in XPATH capabilities to scrape content from Yahoo! Fantasy Sports. It uses some sort of cookie-based authentication scheme. Basically, the sequence is: 1) Do an HTTP GET on the Yahoo! Login page 2) Parse the hidden inputs from the response and do an HTTP PUT with your Yahoo! Login on the form URL 3) Use the cookies returned from step 2 to GET any of the Fantasy Sports! websites that you have access to My question is, does YQL support doing this to scrape data? The only authentication based examples I've seen use OAuth, but I haven't seen any examples of using YQL to parse websites with cookie-based authentication schemes

  Hi, I'm using access 2007 and i am trying to set up a database to act as a library system, i need a function that automatically calculates a date 14 days after a given date i.e. Loan Date vs. Due Date. But the library is open only on certain Days. So i need the 14 days not to include the dates that are out of hours, like weekends and school holidays etc. I think i need to use Select Case or IIF's? • Building big, immutable objects without using constructors having long parameter lists

  Hi StackOverflow! I have some big (more than 3 fields) Objects which can and should be immutable. Every time I run into that case i tend to create constructor abominations with long parameter lists. It doesn't feel right, is hard to use and readability suffers. It is even worse if the fields are some sort of collection type like lists. A simple addSibling(S s) would ease the object creation so much but renders the object mutable. What do you guys use in such cases? I'm on Scala and Java, but i think the problem is language agnostic as long as the language is object oriented. Solutions I can think of: "Constructor abominations with long parameter lists" The Builder Pattern Thanks for your input!

• Problems Executing iPhone "GenericKeychain" Example

  I can't get apple's "GenericKeychain" example to run. I have replaced all 5 occurrences, as mentioned in the readme file, of "YOUR_APP_ID_HERE.com.yourcompany" with my own string: se.[company name].[project name].demo. The compilation goes fine but when trying to run it on the phone, an error saying "The executable was signed with invalid entitlements" appears. And yes, I have an ad hoc provisioning profile installed. I've tried to add "Entitlements.plist" with "get-task-allow" checked but with the same result. Has anyone been able to run the example? • How to read a CLOB column in Oracle using OleDb ?

  Hi, I have created a table on an Oracle 10g database with this structure : create table myTable ( id number(32,0) primary key, myData clob ) I can insert rows in the table without any problem, but when I try to read data from the table using OleDb connection, I get an exception. Here is the code I use : using (OleDbConnection dbConnection = new OleDbConnection("ConnectionString")) { dbConnection.Open(); OleDbCommand dbCommand = dbConnection.CreateCommand(); dbCommand.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE id=?"; dbCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("ID", id); OleDbDataReader dbReader = dbCommand.ExecuteReader(); } The exception details seems to point on an unsupported data type : System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Unspecified error Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle. Data type is not supported. Does anyone know how I can read this data using the OleDb connection ? PS : The driver used in this case is the Microsoft one.

But in the static constructor I get no such message. I am stepping through line-by-line, so I know that I'm getting to that line and no further. Why is this? (I have no idea if that fact that my class implements IHttpHandlerFactory matters, but I included it just in case.) This is VS2005, .Net 2.0

  Let's say i have 3 smtp appenders in same log4net file whose names are: <appender name = "emailDevelopment".. /> <appender name = "emailBeta".. /> <appender name = "emailProduction".. /> Let's say i have 3 different servers(Dev, Beta, Production). Depending upon the server, i want to fire the log. In case of Development server, it would fire log from "emailDevelopment". I have a system variable in each server named "ApplicationEnvironment" whose value is Development, Beta, Production based on the server names. Now is there anyway i can setup root in log4net so that it fires email depending upon the server name. <root> <priority value="ALL" /> <appender-ref ref="email<environment name from whose appender should be used>" /> </root>

I've been wondering what makes the programming community so prone to helping others in stackoverflow. Is this something particular to programmers? Do you think lawyers and accountants would help other lawyers and programmers as we do? What makes you come back to stackoverflow every day? It would be great to have an answer per reason so that we can get the list of reasons. In my case, I come to stackoverflow to ask questions that I can't solve quickly, and to test how good I am when answering questions. So far I’ve failed miserably at trying to answer questions but it has helped me understand how little I know.

I have multiple images floating in the main window, and using mouse I can move image from one corner to other corner of window, left, right, top and bottom. I can't figure out how do I catch an event when a image touches and panel (with trash box image), in the right hand corner. Does anybody knows which event or handler to listen? This is not a drag and drop case since my images are floating so no point using drag and drop. Thank you
