I'm wondering if anyone is aware of a web-based dos emulator that would allow running dos games through a browser window? Perhaps written in Flash, Silverlight, AJAX, or Java?
I'm tweaking bashrun at the moment, and adding as-you-type completion to bash would make it even more awesome, but I can't find any resources on how to do that, so I'm wondering if it is possible at all ?
Hello everyone,

Hello,
I have a DVI TV, and was wondering if anyone has tried out the DVI to USB adapter and could let me knwo what kind of quality it has... was it worth it? Was thinking of using it for online TV (don't have a wireless device)...
Thanks.
One of the things that I am investigating is using the dateext option for logrotate. However if I understood things correctly apache will keep writing to the files access.log and error.log.
I was wondering if there was a way to have apache log to a file access.log.YYYYMMDD and error.log.YYYYMMDD instead? Where YYYYMMDD would be the timestamp when the file was created.
I'm currently using iClip Lyrics, but apparently it's being discontinued. It can't import lyrics from certain lyrics sites (such as wikia) because they've used some javascript/iframe mix to make copy/pasting difficult.
I was wondering if there were other options that are better at importing lyrics automatically as well as displaying lyrics. Bonus points for solutions that handle unicode encoded characters too, since a good portion of my music library is asian.
I have a pretty complicated computer setup and want to reorganize it, so I was wondering if there was some free computer setup diagramming software for Mac. It can be either online or software based.
Thanks in advance!
Hi all,
I am building a system for a friend. The potential specs are like this so far:
ASUS A8N-VM motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.0 GHz
Any 7200RPM SATA HDD
Palit GeForce 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 PCIe
One DVD/CD combo drive
Creative SB Live! 5.1 sound card
I was wondering what wattage of power supply would be able to support this hardware. I had a 350W in mind... would that do?
Thanks in advance.
I wanted to change the icon used for a Custom Library I've created in Windows 7. I found a great article How to Customize the Library Icons in Windows 7 which describes exactly how to do that. However, the article uses shell32.dll and a icon location to do so. I have found an image map detailing the icons location in shell32.dll in Windows XP but was wondering if anyone knew of something similar for Windows 7.
I'm really new to 802.1x but I'm trying to use 802.1x authentication in a wired network. My desktop is Linux (centos) using wpa_supplicant as the supplicant. I'm wondering what key_mgmt/eap is normally used in the wired environment?
I went through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Authentication_Protocol but it doesn't clearly say which method/encapsulation is normally used for wired network. Can anyone give me a hint?
Thanks.
I am wondering if there is a free email client that automatically sends the email without needing to be open? I'm assuming this email client would have to install a service to do this.
I think the newer versions of outlook can do this, but the version I have, does not do this.
Is there a function of MS Word that enables users to solve basic math problems, in this case addition or subtraction? I use its platform for a budget and of course I could just use a calculator but it would be more convenient if I could solve it all in one place.
For instance:
(6.75 + 12.65 + 27.35)
Sorry for the simplicity of this question. Wondering if MS Word had a functionality like this of some sort?
This may have been asked before, but I'm wondering whether there is a shortcut for navigating to the enclosing folder in OS X (Snow Leopard)?
I find navigating Finder particularly frustrating since it's hard navigating back to the enclosing folder (especially when you jump to a folder and realize the back button is disabled)...
I'm hoping for something other than Command+Up, since that's the key combination I use to navigate Spaces.
I'm wondering if there's any tools (preferably offline) that would allow me to layout all of the new equipment that will be going into several standard racks. Currently I'm using Excel to map out all of the slots columns for the data but I suspect that there is some better method of doing this. Suggestions?
Edit: Dell has an online tool, but doesn't seem very good at actually saving the data that you're working on (and obviously it's geared towards Dell hardware).
Hello,
I just found out by using TCPView that one of my svchost.exe had an http connection in "CLOSE_WAIT" to a strange ip address, although no other visible program was running.
With the help of Process Explorer I discovered that this svchost was using the WebClient windows service.
I'm wondering how I can figure out what program used WebClient to connect to this ip, in order to determine if it's malware.
I took a backup of my PC a while ago, and forgot what was on the backup. I noticed it created a VHD file, but I was wondering if that was safe to run in Virtual PC without corrupting the image to restore to.
Any ideas?
I type echo $PATH on the command line and get
/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/Users/andrew/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:/usr/local/pear/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/git/bin
I'm wondering where this is getting set since my .bash_login file is empty.
I'm particularly concerned that, after installing MacPorts, it installed a bunch of junk in /opt. I don't think that directory even exists in a normal Mac OS X install.
Update: Thanks to jtimberman for correcting my echo $PATH statement
I guess i asked a dumb question earlier. I am fairly new at this. I have a socal network being built in PHP wit MYsql. I was wondering how much bandwidth and storage would allow users to have have 500mins of streaming video and allow them to store photos and videos. Please forgive me. I am not a technology guy and just doing some research as I am learning as I go along.
I've been using the free naggy version of Smart FTP for a while. It's very good, but then it became shareware only.
So I was wondering, are there any other good FTP clients for Windows?
The ones I tried but didn't like was:
CoreFTP
FileZilla (this one was especially bad :( )
I'm wondering if it is possible to use gnome-keyring-daemon without X. Normally it will present a graphical prompt in order to acquire a password for the keyring; is there a way around this? I'd like to be able to use ubuntu one without having to start a graphical session and type in my password.
My new PC I just finished building has USB 3.0 support as well as eSATA. So this has me wondering, I use a USB stick/thumb drive all the time on my PC for stuff, is there an equivalent available anywhere for USB 3.0 or even eSATA?
Are there any windows applications that serve video from a server's local disk to h264 flash viewable through the browser on your local network?
I'm thinking that on machine1, I'd have a folder with a ton of videos. This program would serve the videos on a website visible at http://machine1/myvids and that it would serve them in h264 and do the h264 conversion on the fly using the GPU.
I know it's a lofty set of reqs but I'm wondering if anything like this is out there.
I'm currently an running a quad core processor on windows 7 and was wondering if there is a way to turn off unneeded cpu cores while I'm running on battery to extend battery life it would be nice to do this automatically but will also accept way to it manually if there is no way to do it automatically either in windows or through management software I've searched on the internet and haven't been able to find anything to this effect on google
The Windows 7 Aero interface looks great, but after looking at it for months it gets boring. So I was wondering - is it possible to create advanced skins for Windows 7 that use full Aero capabilities but are redesigned from ground up, including common controls, animations, effects, etc? Windows XP allowed that, although only with a patched uxtheme.dll.
Or do you have to implement a custom shell for that?
