  • WTF is wtf? (in WebKit code base)

    - by Motti
I downloaded Chromium's code base and ran across the WTF namespace. namespace WTF { /* * C++'s idea of a reinterpret_cast lacks sufficient cojones. */ template<typename TO, typename FROM> TO bitwise_cast(FROM in) { COMPILE_ASSERT(sizeof(TO) == sizeof(FROM), WTF_wtf_reinterpret_cast_sizeof_types_is_equal); union { FROM from; TO to; } u; u.from = in; return u.to; } } // namespace WTF Does this mean what I think it means? Could be so, the bitwise_cast implementation specified here will not compile if either TO or FROM is not a POD and is not (AFAIK) more powerful than C++ built in reinterpret_cast. The only point of light I see here is the nobody seems to be using bitwise_cast in the Chromium project. I see there's some legalese so I'll put in the little letters to keep out of trouble. /* * Copyright (C) 2008 Apple Inc. - by dig
Hello, I'm trying to build a facebook like search for my software. I'd like to query the table customers. I've set up a FULLTEXT Index and tried the next query SELECT * FROM Customer where CONTAINS(*,'*ann*') The query does return all the customers named Ann, but it doesn't return all the customers name Anne. Is there a way to create prefix search on SQL SERVER 2008 using FTS? Thanks.

  • Why Kiln is based on Mercurial, and not other (D)VCS

    - by Jakub Narebski
What were the reason for chosing Mercurial as a basis of FogCreek Kiln, a source control management system with tightly integrated code review, and FogBugz integration? Why Mercurial, and not other (distributed) version control system, like Bazaar, Git or Monotone, or creating own version control system like Fossil (distributed software configuration management, including bug tracking and wiki) did? What were features that make FogCreek choose Mercurial as Kiln engine?

  • Moving files between Windows computers without creating network shares

    - by mavnn
What's needed: To move several directories between two Windows 2008 servers on a regular basis. Due to security requirements, neither server is supposed to have network shares set up or extraneous software installed. What's available: Administrator access to both machines (including remote desktop access if that helps). A third machine with: Visual Studio 2010 Cygwin Bonus extras The script that does the rest of the work (apart from moving the files) is currently written in F#, but any .net/command line based solution would be fine.

I have the db structure planned on paper, and I have the queries I'll need in mind, but before I start coding I want to fully test the db design so I know it's right and ready. What's the best free software to use to test the db structure quickest?

    - by user1677272
I have a VC++ dll, which I want to register on my 32-bit Windows 7 machine using regsvr32.exe, however I have some problems with this. When I register my DLL with regsvr32.exe, it shows registration successful, but when I check the entries in regedit, there is no entry in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID. There is only one entry in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TypeLib with the guid mentioned in the project. Can anyone help me on this?

  • How do you encrypt parts of a file separately using pgp?

    - by Collin Anderson
I would like to encrypt credit card numbers on a web server as they come in using PGP. I would then like to be able to export all of the credit card numbers and other information in one file that can be easily decrypted using standard PGP software. Is it possible to take the encrypted credit card numbers and join them with other encrypted data and be able to decrypt the entire file? Basically is this true? D(E(x) + E(y)) = x + y Where '+' means string concatenation.

  • Headers on the second row in FasterCSV?

    - by Schroedinger
G'day guys, I'm currently using fasterCSV to parse a CSV file in ruby, and wondering how to get rid of the initial row of data on a CSV (The initial row contains the time/date information generated by another software package) I tried using fasterCSV.table and then deleting row(0) then converting it to a CSV document then parsing it but the row was still present in the document. Any other ideas? fTable = FasterCSV.table("sto.csv", :headers => true) fTable.delete(0)

  • Installed Programs/Computer Info for Web Application

    - by Ryan Gyure
I'm currently developing a support system for a university. The system is written in PHP and I would like to be able to get a current list of software and basic computer information on a computer. Basically when one of the faculty or staff creates a ticket from our web interface, I would like to have a Java Applet or similar that could be run and would return the information to the help desk PHP script. Does something like this exist?

  • Enthought Python, Sage, or others (in Unix clusters)

    - by vailen
I am currently get access to a cluster of Unix machines, but they don't have the software I need (numpy, scipy, matplotlib, etc), and I have to install them by myself (I don't have the root permission, either, so commands like apt-get or yast doesn't work). In the worst case, I have to compile them all from source. Is there any better way to do so? I hear something about Enthought Python and Sage, but not sure what is the best way to do so. Any suggestion?

When i check the run in xp mode , it sets a string value in HK_LOCAL_USER \Software\microsoft\windowsNT\currentversion\appcompatflags\layers folder , and runs well. When i set the same value in the folder through an application built in VC++ 2010 , it doesn't work why..? are there any other dependencies , that i should look into..?

  • The future of programming, or what lies in the future in programming?

    - by prosseek
I remember that a article that Microsoft uses formal verification to debug the Device Driver, and I also remember that Functional Programming removes much of the bug as it ensures stateless programming. And we all know about the multi-core. I beleive all of them are future direction of programming or programming language. Multi-core programming or parallel programming Software Formal Verification Functional Programming (as a mainstream?) What do you think? What will be the future of programming?

  • ASP.NET MVC 2 - user defined database connection.

    - by J Harley
Hello, I am looking to port my very basic DBMS software from classic ASP to ASP.net - however the user would need to input the connection details in order to connect to their specific DBMS server. Is this at all possible with ASP.NET MVC (very similar to DSN-less connections in ASP). Cheers, Joel
