  • Android service killed

    - by Erdal
I have a Service running in the same process as my Application. Sometimes the Android OS decides to kill my service (probably due to low memory). My question is: does my Application get killed along with the Service? or how does it work exactly? Thanks!

  • Clean URLs for images

    - by Albert
I'm unable to get a working .htaccess that should accept clean URLs to load images. I mean, for example, if a user type this: http://mysite.com/image/example It works perfectly, as my PHP process and parse it. However, if the user type: .../image/example.jpg It doesn't work. I mean, if a user writes that, I want to load the module with the example.jpg as a parameter, I don't want to load the image at all! Thanks in advance.

  • Why bind hibernate SessionFactory to a JNDI resource?

    - by jschoen
In my current adventure of learning hibernate and setting it up to use an appserver's connection pool, most examples and resources out there point you in the direction of binding the SessionFactory to a JNDI resource in your appserver in the process. I wondering what the benefit of this is? Since the you can access a the connection pool with out doing this.

  • Deploy only cube schema, without processing

    - by Ken Yao
Is there a way to only deploy cube schema, but without processing the cube. It seems in Visual Studio, when yo deploy a cube, by default, it is "Deploy and Process". The problem is processing takes so much time, and my main purpose is just writing some MDX script and see if it works well against the cube structure. It seems processing whole cube is just over kill. So I ask.

  • How can I decide what to test manually, and what to trust to automated tests?

    - by bhazzard
We have a ton of developers and only a few QA folks. The developers have been getting more involved in qa throughout the development process by writing automated tests, but our QA practices are mostly manual. What I'd love is if our development practices were BDD and TDD and we grew a robust test suite. The question is: While building such a testing suite, how can we decide what we can trust to the tests, and what we should continue testing manually?

  • Is I/O Completion ports(Windows) or Asynchronous I/O (AIO) will improve performance of multithreaded

    - by Naga
Hi, I want to use I/O Completion ports for Windows and Asynchronous I/O (AIO) for solaris and Linux versions of my server application. The application server is multithreaded and it can accept lot of concurrent TCP connections and can process many requests per conenction. Every request will be handled by seperate detached thread. Is this criteria well enough to use the latest AIO?. Is there any standardization using which one code can be used to all platforms. Thanks, Naga

  • How do you composite an image onto another image with PIL in Python?

    - by Sebastian
I need to take an image and place it onto a new, generated white background in order for it to be converted into a downloadable desktop wallpaper. So the process would go: 1) Generate new, all white image with 1440x900 dimensions 2) Place existing image on top, centered 3) Save as single image In PIL, I see the ImageDraw object, but nothing indicates it can draw existing image data onto another image. Suggestions or links anyone can recommend?

  • CCATS needed for non-export iPhone app?

    - by Steve
I'm getting ready to finally deploy my first iPhone app. The app uses SSL to connect to a REST web service. While reading the docs on deploying the app to the app store, I came across some drivel regarding having to go through a 30 - 60 day government vetting process just to ship an app that simply connects to an HTTPS server. My question is, since this is an export requirement, do apps that are only distributed in the US face this same restriction? Thanks

  • Building a community photography site, where can I store my photos online?

    - by thanos panousis
I am in the process of laying down the requirements for a photography community site. An important feature to investigate would be allowing more fotos/account than rival sites around my country's internet. What are the possibilities out there? Should I go for something like amazon S3, or is there anything that offers more image-related features? I am mostly interested in low price per GB (storage and transfer out).

  • [Symfony] Login to application with GET/POST token

    - by Henri
I work on a Symfony web application which has a standard login form. To allow users to login more easily we want to give them a link which logs them in directly. I've already build a way to get a token to use, but I have no clue as to how the Symfony login process works, specifically how I can adapt it to take a GET/POST token instead of redirecting to the login page. Any help appreciated! Oh and this is Symfony 1.2 BTW (and no, upgrading is not an option right now)

  • WinForms/Console application on Mono, how to know it runs as root

    - by Lex Li-MSFT
As we can execute such executables in two ways, such as "sudo mono test.exe", and "mono test.exe". Now I want to know how to detect whether this application is running as root inside the application itself. I tried to check user name like below and see whether they equal to "root", Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name Process.GetCurrentProcess().StartInfo.UserName AppDomain.CurrentDomain.ApplicationIdentity.FullName The first two are empty strings always, while the third throws NullReferenceException. Please advise if this is doable on Mono 2.6.

  • Processing incoming emails on Heroku

    - by Jerry Cheung
For my side project kwiqi, I use ActionMailer's 'receive' method to process incoming email messages for tracking my expenses. Heroku doesn't have a local mail server running that same code will not work. One solution I've thought of is to periodically hit a controller action that will pull messages from Gmail. Are there other solutions that are reasonable? Is anyone processing incoming emails in Heroku?

  • asp.net mvc taking offline for testing

    - by Debra
I need to test a feature in a live "asp.net mvc" web site and would want to block access to the site while testing, how would you recommend doing that? Is it possible to block access and still be able to test as an anonymous user? (I need to test the process as a user that's not logged in).

  • A Question about using jython when run a receving socket in python

    - by abusemind
Hi, I have not a lot of knowledge of python and network programming. Currently I am trying to implement a simple application which can receive a text message sent by the user, fetch some information from the google search api, and return the results via text message to the user. This application will continue to listening to the users messages and reply immediately. How I get the text short message sent by the user? It's a program named fetion from the mobile supplier in China. The client side fetion, just like a instant communication tool, can send/receive messages to/from other people who are using mobile to receive/send SMS. I am using a open source python program that simulates the fetion program. So basically I can use this python program to communate with others who using cell phone via SMS. My core program is based on java, so I need to take this python program into java environment. I am using jython, and now I am available to send messages to users by some lines of java codes. But the real question is the process of receving from users via SMS. In python code, a new thread is created to continuously listen to the user. It should be OK in Python, but when I run the similar process in Jython, the following exception occurs: Exception in thread Thread:Traceback (most recent call last): File "D:\jython2.5.1\Lib\threading.py", line 178, in _Thread__bootstrap self.run() File "<iostream>", line 1389, in run File "<iostream>", line 1207, in receive File "<iostream>", line 1207, in receive File "<iostream>", line 150, in recv File "D:\jython2.5.1\Lib\select.py", line 223, in native_select pobj.register(fd, POLLIN) File "D:\jython2.5.1\Lib\select.py", line 104, in register raise _map_exception(jlx) error: (20000, 'socket must be in non-blocking mode') The line 150 in the python code is as follows: def recv(self, timeout=False): if self.login_type == "HTTP": time.sleep(10) return self.get_offline_msg() pass else: if timeout: infd, outfd, errfd = select([self.__sock,],[],[],timeout)//<---line 150 here else: infd, outfd, errfd = select([self.__sock,],[],[]) if len(infd) != 0: ret = self.__tcp_recv() num = len(ret) d_print(('num',),locals()) if num == 0: return ret if num == 1: return ret[0] for r in ret: self.queue.put(r) d_print(('r',),locals()) if not self.queue.empty(): return self.queue.get() else: return "TimeOut" Because of I am not very familiar with python, especially the socket part, and also new in Jython use, I really need your help or only advice or explanation. Thank you very much!

  • How would I go about prevent DLL injection.

    - by wowus
So the other day, I saw this: http://www.edgeofnowhere.cc/viewtopic.php?p=2483118 and it goes over three different methods of DLL injection. How would I prevent these from the process? Or at a bare minimum, how do I prevent the first one? I was thinking maybe a Ring 0 driver might be the only way to stop all three, but I'd like to see what the community thinks.
