• How do I get my HP M1132 printer to work?

  I connected my printer to the computer and Ubuntu 12.04recognized it and installed it, but when I try to print something, the printer just gives a signal as if the document had already been printed and nothing happens, and at the printing queue the job is still there as "Processing - Not Connected?" or "Stopped". The printer is working fine on Microsoft Windows and I am sure it is connected. In the status field in the printer properties, it says: Processing - /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups failed. I'd like someone to please teach me how to get this printer (and it's scanner) working on Ubuntu.

  Is there any cons of making your employees use open-source programs in your company? I am planning to start a bussiness and I wonder why companies usually work with proprietary software, as Microsoft Word to quote the most famous one. Why do not they use Open Office (or Libre Office) etc.? From my point of view, you can save a lot of money and help the open-source community by, for instance, giving them part of your benefits in form of donations. I do not know any (medium-big) company that does this. Probably you could give me some examples, just to prove that this model of open-source usage/collaboration works rocks.

• Wireless xbox360 pad connected with xboxdrv doesn't show in jstest

  So Lubuntu 13.04, 3.4.0. I'm trying to use my wireless xbox controller. I've installed xboxdrv. I have to run it with sudo, or I get USBController::USBController(): libusb_open() failed: LIBUSB_ERROR_ACCESS. If I connect the adapter, run the program, and then press the button on the gamepad to connect it, it never really connects - just flashes like it's searching. If I reboot, leaving the controller searching, and run the command again while it's searching after I boot up, the controller connects (the light becomes solid in one corner). Using pkill xboxdrv and then relaunching it doesn't work. • How to camel-case where consecutive words have numbers?

  Just wondering if anybody has a good convention to follow in this corner-corner-corner case. I really use Java but figured the C# folks might have some good insight too. Say I am trying to name a class where two consecutive words in the class name are numeric (note that the same question could asked about identifier names). Can't get a great example, but think of something like "IEEE 802 16 bit value". Combining consecutive acronyms is doable if you accept classnames such as HttpUrlConnection. But it seriously makes me throw up a little to think of naming the class IEEE80216BitValue. If I had to pick, I'd say that's even worse than IEEE802_16BitValue which looks like a bad mistake. For small numbers, I'd consider IEEE802SixteenBitValue but that doesn't scale that well. Anyone out there have a convention? Seems like Microsoft's naming guidelines are the only ones that describe acronym naming in enough detail to get the job done, but nobody has addressed numbers in classnames.

• 12.10 on Elitebook 8560w w/ WUBI

  I am trying dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu on my Elitebook 8560w via WUBI. Between Microsoft and HP they used up all my primary partitions so I decided WUBI was the best way to go. It all goes smoothly until I reboot to finish the installation, then it hangs at copying files. It always freezes here: debconf (filter): widget found for ubiquity/install/title debconf (filter): -- 0 OK It also says something about "so and so might freeze best to kill it" but I didn't get it written down. Can anybody tell me what that means? • SQL Server Data Tools–BI for Visual Studio 2013 Re-released

  Customers used to complain that the tooling for creating BI projects (Analysis Services MD and Tabular, Reporting Services, and Integration services) has been based on earlier versions of Visual Studio than the ones they were using for their other work in Visual Studio (such as C#, VB, and ASP.NET projects). To alleviate that problem, the shipment of those tools has been decoupled from the shipment of the SQL Server product. In SQL Server 2014, the BI tooling isn’t even included in the released version of SQL Server. This allows the team to keep up-to-date with the releases of Visual Studio. A little while back, I was really pleased to see that the Visual Studio 2013 update for SSDT-BI (SQL Server Data Tools for Business Intelligence) had been released. • Why do I get the message "program not found" when running "mal" for Latex

  just started using Ubuntu (11.10 oneiric). It is running on a virtual machine. I used to use SuSE. However, SuSE is now with Novel, which goes hand in hand with Microsoft. So now shifted to Ubuntu. For documentation I use LaTeX and installed a package. This package uses a pre-processer (it is called "mal"). I ran the textconfig rehash command as required, but when I try to run the program, I get a "program not found" error. I am guessing that it is not in my path. (a sudo did not help) Any idea?

• Efficient way to check for changes to the contents of folders

  I am creating an application that maintains a database of files of a certain type in a given folder (and all subfolders) Initially the program will recurse the folders and add any file it finds of that type to the database. I want the application to have the ability to re-scan the folder and add any files that were not there the last time the folders were scanned. It can't use the date created property of the file because there is a high chance of a file being added to the folders that isn't a new file. I am wondering what the most efficient way of doing this is, and if there is a way that doesn't involve checking each file is in the database already (which, if there are 5000 files would mean 5000 queries of a list 5000 items in size, or 25 million 'checks' for the sql engine to perform) I suppose a more specific question to acheive the same goal would be - is there a property of a file (in Microsoft Windows) that will reliably tell you when that file arrived in that folder.

  At one place, I was faced with a C# solution which when XML documentation was turned on, the compilation time increased from 45 seconds to over 8 minutes. This slowdown was unacceptable, however some digging revealed an excellent suggestion by Eric Woodruff at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/devdocs/thread/9bbad4cc-e229-49da-a6f7-3cdf470ac53a/ where he suggested "just suppress the warning by entering it's number (1591 for C#) in the Suppress Warnings field on the Build tab of the project properties". I followed Eric's suggestion and the compilation time went back down to 45 seconds. Now that CS1591 is suppressed how was missing documentation to be found? All that was necessary was to run StyleCop!

  Authentication is such a general problem, which most websites have to implement. There are a few commercial solutions, but all lack sufficient functionality to customize the registration process. Therefore, I am looking for an open-source alternative. I am using PHP and with PostgreSQL as database, but as far as I understand one could utilize authentication solutions using other technologies and integrate them into our site in various ways. Therefore, I am looking for such solutions in any technology apart from those requiring Microsoft infrastructure... I would prefer Open Source solution, which have already implemented the following features: Has password recovery procedure Username is the email address of the user Has "Remember me" functionailty (meaning that the user is logged in automatically without seeing the login page) email address verification Google has gotten me nowhere on this and neither a search on this site...
