• Adding to a multidimensional array in PHP

  I have an array being returned from the database that looks like so: $data = array(201 => array('description' => blah, 'hours' => 0), 222 => array('description' => feh, 'hours' => 0); In the next bit of code, I'm using a foreach and checking the for the key in another table. If the next query returns data, I want to update the 'hours' value in that key's array with a new hours value: foreach ($data as $row => $value){ $query = $db->query($sql); if ($result){ $value['hours'] = $result['hours']; } I've tried just about every combination of declarations for the foreach loop, but I keep getting the error that it's a non-object. Surely this is easier than my brain is perceiving it.

• How can I specify resources in an MVVM view model?

  Suppose I want to show list of objects where each object should have a name and a suitable image (for example MenuItems with Icons, or buttons with text and image). All examples and programs exposed the image in the viewmodel as a path to a PNG file and then bound the Source of an Image to that. But what if I want to use vector images (for example as a DrawingImage in a local ResourceDictionary)? Exposing the DrawingImage from the view model seems bad because I would have to store a reference to the application/window/user control/... (and it is advised to not expose such XAML objects from view models). So a better approach would be to use a string identifier in the view model and then somehow select the appropriate resource. If that identifier is the resource key this snippet looks tempting but does not work: <Image Source="{StaticResource {Binding Icon}}"/> I found two workarounds for that though they did not work for me. The first one was using a normal binding to the icon with a converter that looked up the resource in Application.Current. This does not work if the resource is stored somewhere else I think (and the situation where I initially bumped into this problem had no Application running yet since it was a Window choosing the Application to launch!). The second workaround was using a markup extension derived from StaticResourceExtension that fetched its ResourceKey from the passed binding: <Image Source="{local:BindableStaticResource {Binding Icon}"/> This one looks really neat because it could use local resources, also be used for other things. But when using it I always got an exception ("Resource named {FooIcon} could not be found.", showing the correct XAML file and position of the extension). Even an empty resource extension derived from StaticResourceExtension that just passed the resource key to the base constructor did not work and I cannot explain why. Just using StaticResourceExtension worked just fine. Any ideas how I could fix the second approach, or even better solutions? Edit I noticed that it does work when used directly like this: <Window> <Window.Resources> <DrawingImage x:Key="SomeIcon"/> </Window.Resources> <Image Source="{BindableStaticResource {Binding Icon}}"/> </Window> but fails for example in a DataTemplate. Though a normal StaticResourceExtension works on both occasions so I am puzzled what is going wrong.

• What signing method to use for public open-source projects?

  I'm publishing an open-source library on CodePlex, and want the dll files to have strong names so that they can be added to GAC. What's the best option for signing? Should I use SNK? If so, everyone have access to the key. I don't have a problem with everyone having access, but is it a good approach? Should I use PFX? If so, does it mean that other people downloading the source code are not able to build the solution? What I like to do is that I am the only one person to have access to the key, so that the signed assemblies also have a level of authenticity, but meanwhile don't prevent other developers to download, build, or change the source code for themselves, and be able to post changes for the main project.

  my view generates keys in this format ["job_id:1234567890", 1271430291000] where the first key element is a unique key and the second is a timestamp in milliseconds. I run my view with this elapsed_time?startkey=["123"]&endkey=["123",{}]&group=true&group_level=1 and here is my reduce function, the intention is to reduce the output to get the earliest and latest timestamps and return the difference between them and now function(keys,values,rereduce) { var now = new Date().valueOf(); var first = Number.MIN_VALUE; var last = Number.MAX_VALUE; if (rereduce) { first = Math.max(first,values[0].first); last = Math.min(last,values[0].last); } else { first = keys[0][0][1]; last = keys[keys.length-1][0][1]; } return {first:now - first, last:now - last}; } and when processing a query it constantly raises the following execption: function raised exception (new TypeError("keys has no properties", "", 1)) I am making sure not to reference keys inside my rereduce block. Why does this function constantly raise this exception?

  I have an iPhone iOS4.1 application that uses localized strings. I have just started building unit tests using the SenTestingKit. I have been able to successfully test many different types of values. I am unable to correctly test any of my code that uses NSLocalizedString calls, because when the code runs in my LogicTests target, all of my NSLocalizedString calls only return the string key. I have added my Localizable.strings file to the LogicTests target. My question is: How must I configure my LogicTests target so that calls to NSLocalizedString will return the localized string and not the string key.

  Hi, I have a feeling of missing something obvious. UDP receiver application. It holds a collection of valid UDP sender IPs - only guys with IP on that list will be considered. Since that list must be looked at on every packet and UDPs are so volatile, that operation must be maximum fast. Good choice is Dictionary but it is a key-value structure and what I actually need here is a dictionary-like (hash lookup) key only structure. Is there something like that?   I'm looking for some sample database data that I can use for testing and demonstrating a DB tool I am working on. I need a DB that has (preferably) many tables, and many foreign key relationships between the tables. Ideally the data would be in SQL dump format, or at least in something that maintains the foreign key references, and could be easily import into an RDBMS (MySQL or H2). The dataset itself doesn't have to be huge (in fact, best if it's not). I thought about using the Stackoverflow Data Dump, but it's only about 5 tables.

• C# extension method doesn't seem to exist

  Hi, Hope someone may be able to help. What i am looking to do is create a small winform app in c# to read the content of a email from a pop account, and upload key values to a sql automatically. The email format is always the same for each email, eg, First name : Last name : Phone number : etc... Currently the emails are being stored in a pop 3 account however i want a way to reduce having to key the information into the sql by hand. Can anyone advise how i would go about doing this or could recommend some guides? Thanks. Steve

• What is the most effective way to test for combined keyboard arrow direction in ActionScript 3.0?

  I need to monitor the direction a user is indicating using the four directional arrow keys on a keyboard in ActionScript 3.0 and I want to know the most efficient and effective way to do this. I've got several ideas of how to do it, and I'm not sure which would be best. I've found that when tracking Keyboard.KEY_DOWN events, the event repeats as long as the key is down, so the event function is repeated as well. This broke the method I had originally chosen to use, and the methods I've been able to think of require a lot of comparison operators. The best way I've been able to think of would be to use bitwise operators on a uint variable. Here's what I'm thinking var _direction:uint = 0x0; // The Current Direction That's the current direction variable. In the Keyboard.KEY_DOWN event handler I'll have it check what key is down, and use a bitwise AND operation to see if it's already toggled on, and if it's not, I'll add it in using basic addition. So, up would be 0x1 and down would be 0x2 and both up and down would be 0x3, for example. It would look something like this: private function keyDownHandler(e:KeyboardEvent):void { switch(e.keyCode) { case Keyboard.UP: if(!(_direction & 0x1)) _direction += 0x1; break; case Keyboard.DOWN: if(!(_direction & 0x2)) _direction += 0x2; break; // And So On... } } The keyUpHandler wouldn't need the if operation since it only triggers once when the key goes up, instead of repeating. I'll be able to test the current direction by using a switch statement labeled with numbers from 0 to 15 for the sixteen possible combinations. That should work, but it doesn't seem terribly elegant to me, given all of the if statements in the repeating keyDown event handler, and the huge switch. private function checkDirection():void { switch(_direction) { case 0: // Center break; case 1: // Up break; case 2: // Down break; case 3: // Up and Down break; case 4: // Left break; // And So On... } } Is there a better way to do this?

• Differences between WPF Custom Control Library and plain Class Library?

  I posted a question a few months ago about sharing resource dictionaries across assemblies. It turns out you can do that using the Component Resource Key markup extension. At the time, I could only get it working with a WPF Custom Control project, not with a plain Class Library project. Now I need to use an existing plain Class Library project to host a shared resource dictionary. That means I need to retrofit the Class Library project to support the Component Resource Key markup extension. I have added a Themes folder and a Generic.xaml resource dictionary document to the Class Library project, as well as references to PresentationCore, PresentationFramework, and WindowsBase. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to do the trick. So, here is my question: Other than the above, what does a WPF Custom Control Library project have that a plain Class Library project doesn't? Or, to put it another way, what else could I add to my class library project to get this feature working? Thanks.

• What can I do about a SQL Server ghost FK constraint?

  I'm having some trouble with a SQL Server 2005 database that seems like it's keeping a ghost constraint around. I've got a script that drops the constraint in question, does some work, and then re-adds the same constraint. Normally, it works fine. Now, however, it can't re-add the constraint because the database says that it already exists, even though the drop worked fine! Here are the queries I'm working with: alter table individual drop constraint INDIVIDUAL_EMP_FK ALTER TABLE INDIVIDUAL ADD CONSTRAINT INDIVIDUAL_EMP_FK FOREIGN KEY (EMPLOYEE_ID) REFERENCES EMPLOYEE After the constraint is dropped, I've made sure that the object really is gone by using the following queries: select object_id('INDIVIDUAL_EMP_FK') select * from sys.foreign_keys where name like 'individual%' Both return no results (or null), but when I try to add the query again, I get: The ALTER TABLE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "INDIVIDUAL_EMP_FK". Trying to drop it gets me a message that it doesn't exist. Any ideas?

• Optimising speeds in HDF5 using Pytables

  The problem is with respect to the writing speed of the computer (10 * 32 bit machine) and the postgresql query performance.I will explain the scenario in detail. I have data about 80 Gb (along with approprite database indexes in place). I am trying to read it from Postgresql database and writing it into HDF5 using Pytables.I have 1 table and 5 variable arrays in one hdf5 file.The implementation of Hdf5 is not multithreaded or enabled for symmetric multi processing.I have rented about 10 computers for a day and trying to write them inorder to speed up my data handling. As for as the postgresql table is concerned the overall record size is 140 million and I have 5 primary- foreign key referring tables.I am not using joins as it is not scalable So for a single lookup i do 6 lookup without joins and write them into hdf5 format. For each lookup i do 6 inserts into each of the table and its corresponding arrays. The queries are really simple select * from x.train where tr_id=1 (primary key & indexed) select q_t from x.qt where q_id=2 (non-primary key but indexed) (similarly five queries) Each computer writes two hdf5 files and hence the total count comes around 20 files. Some Calculations and statistics: Total number of records : 14,37,00,000 Total number of records per file : 143700000/20 =71,85,000 The total number of records in each file : 71,85,000 * 5 = 3,59,25,000 Current Postgresql database config : My current Machine : 8GB RAM with i7 2nd generation Processor. I made changes to the following to postgresql configuration file : shared_buffers : 2 GB effective_cache_size : 4 GB Note on current performance: I have run it for about ten hours and the performance is as follows: The total number of records written for each file is about 6,21,000 * 5 = 31,05,000 The bottle neck is that i can only rent it for 10 hours per day (overnight) and if it processes in this speed it will take about 11 days which is too high for my experiments. Please suggest me on how to improve. Questions: 1. Should i use Symmetric multi processing on those desktops(it has 2 cores with about 2 GB of RAM).In that case what is suggested or prefereable? 2. If i change my postgresql configuration file and increase the RAM will it enhance my process. 3. Should i use multi threading..   I am playing around with AngularJS and have not been able to solve this problem. I have a view that has a form to upload a file to a node server. So far I have manage to do this using some directives and a service. I allow the user to send a custom name to the POST data if they desire. What I wan to accomplish is that when the user selects a file the filename models auto populates.
