  • Injection of banners in my webbrowsers possible malware

    Recently I have started to suspect that I have some kind of virus on my computer. There are 3 symptoms: Banners are being displayed on pages that doesn't use commercials, for instance when viewing screen-shots on Steam. It is only displayed after the rest of the page has been loaded and seems to be injected into it. The whole page is replaced with a commercial with the option to skip the commercial. The page is replaced with a search window claiming that the page could not be found. I have tried to scan my computer with Antivir and Adaware but only found a couple of tracking cookies. I have run HijackThis but since this isn't really my area I haven't been able to discern what shouldn't be there except the line about zonealarm since I have uninstalled it. Is there anyone out there who is able to see if there is anything suspicious in the log-file at the end or has suggestions regarding programs that might be better to find the virus than Antivir and Adaware?     I have an ASMX web service running under IIS7 in classic mode. I suppose it's time to burn up one of our support tickets with Microsoft.

  • How to Get Current Weather via Web Services

    I am attempting to get the current weather given a zip code or a set of latitude/longitude coordinates. It appears that best practice to do this (and how NOAA does it) is to get the XML feed for a weather station. Example: http://www.weather.gov/xml/current_obs/KEDW.xml The only problem is that NOAA doesn't provide a good way to find the closest weather station given a zip code or coordinates and I did not see any hosted web services out there that will provide this mapping. Does anyone know of any web services to get the nearest weather station given a zip code or coordinate input? If not, does anyone have any great solutions to look into that provide similar information as NOAA does but takes in a zip code or coordinates?

    Hi all, I've been learning, working, and playing with Python for a year and a half now. As a biologist slowly making the turn to bio-informatics, this language has been a the very core of all the major contributions I have made in the lab. (bash and R scripts have helped some too. My C++ capabilities are very not functional yet). I more or less fell in love with the way Python permits me to express beautiful solutions and also with the semantics of the language that allows such a natural flow from thoughts to workable code. What I would like to know from you is your answer to a kind of question I have seldom seen in this or other forums. Let me sum up what I do NOT want to ask first ;) I don't want to know how to QUICKLY learn Python Nor do I want to find out the best way to get acquainted with the language Finally, I don't want to know a 'one trick that does it all' approach. What I do want to know your opinion about, is: What are the steps YOU would recommend to a Python journeyman, from apprenticeship to guru status (feel free to stop wherever your expertise dictates it), in order that one IMPROVES CONSTANTLY, becoming a better and better Python coder, one step at a time. The kind of answers I would enjoy (but feel free to surprise the readership :P ), is formatted more or less like this: Read this (eg: python tutorial), pay attention to that kind of details Code for so manytime/problems/lines of code Then, read this (eg: this or that book), but this time, pay attention to this Tackle a few real-life problems Then, proceed to reading Y. Be sure to grasp these concepts Code for X time Come back to such and such basics or move further to... (you get the point :) This process depicts an iterative Learn/Code cycle, and I really care about knowing your opinion on what exactly one should pay attention to, at various stages, in order to progress CONSTANTLY (with due efforts, of course).     I like the way Visual studio (2008) format C# code; unfortunately it seems it doesn't behave in the same way when writing C++ code. For example, when I write a code in this way: class Test { public: int x; Test() {this->x=20;} ~Test(){} }; in C# (ok this is C++ but you can understand what I mean), this part: Test() {this->x=20;} Will become Test() { this->x=20; } This is obviusly a stupid example, but there are a lot of things where putting brackets in correct position, indenting code and other things with my own hands becomes boring. I can obviusly change editor if you suggest me a good one for C++ code, I would like to find something with these features: Intellisense (like vs, at least similiar) Custom class coloring (in c# they are cyan, why are they black in c++?) Wordwrap (possibly) Documentation when you mouse over a method/variable Auto formatting (when you close a bracket like "}" in c# you'll get everything well formatted) obviusly I can find other features, but this is what is in my mind at the moment.     I am creating UTF16 text files with Matlab, which I am later reading in using Java. In Matlab, I open a file called fileName and write to it as follows: fid = fopen(fileName, 'w','n','UTF16-LE'); fprintf(fid,"Some stuff."); In Java, I can read the text file using the following code: FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(fileName); Scanner scanner = new Scanner(fileInputStream, "UTF-16LE"); String s = scanner.nextLine(); Here is the hex output: Offset(h) 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B 0C 0D 0E 0F 10 11 12 13 00000000 73 00 6F 00 6D 00 65 00 20 00 73 00 74 00 75 00 66 00 66 00 s.o.m.e. .s.t.u.f.f. The above approach works fine. But, I want to be able to write out the file using UTF16 with a BOM to give me more flexibility so that I don't have to worry about big or little endian. In Matlab, I've coded: fid = fopen(fileName, 'w','n','UTF16'); fprintf(fid,"Some stuff."); In Java, I change the code to: FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(fileName); Scanner scanner = new Scanner(fileInputStream, "UTF-16"); String s = scanner.nextLine(); In this case, the string s is garbled, because Matlab is not writing the BOM. I can get the Java code to work just fine if I add the BOM manually. With the added BOM, the following file works fine. Addendum I selected the answer below from Amro because it exactly solves the question I posed. One key discovery for me was the difference between the Unicode Standard and a UTF (Unicode transformation format) (see http://unicode.org/faq/utf_bom.html). The Unicode Standard provides unique identifiers (code points) for characters. UTFs provide mappings of every code point "to a unique byte sequence." Since all but a handful of the characters I am using are in the first 128 code points, I'm going to switch to using UTF-8 as Romeo suggests. UTF-8 is supported by Matlab (The warning shown below won't need to be suppressed.) and Java, and for my application will generate smaller text files. I suppress the Matlab warning Warning: The encoding 'UTF-16LE' is not supported. with warning off MATLAB:iofun:UnsupportedEncoding;

    I like MVVM. I don't love it, but like it. Most of it makes sense. But, I keep reading articles that encourage you to write a lot of code so that you can write XAML and don't have to write any code in the code-behind. Let me give you an example. Recently I wanted to hookup a command in my ViewModel to a ListView MouseDoubleClickEvent. I wasn't quite sure how to do this. Fortunately, Google has answers for everything. Some of the aforementioned solutions rendered the WPF designer unusable because of a common hack of appending "Internal" after a dependency property; the WPF designer can't find it, but the CLR can. Some of the solutions didn't allow multiple commands to the same control. Some of the solutions didn't allow parameters. After experimenting for a few hours I just decided to do this: private void ListView_MouseDoubleClick(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { ListView lv = sender as ListView; MyViewModel vm = this.DataContext as MyViewModel; vm.DoSomethingCommand.Execute(lv.SelectedItem); } So, MVVM purists, please tell me what's wrong with this? It's just very convenient constructing my objects that way but it worries me because i have no idea whether this is ok or violates the License by dynamically executing code or maybe even calling private (?) API functions. They wouldn't be documented if they were private, right? Can someone shed some light on this? Have you had an App approved or rejected using code similar to the above? I'm pretty sure that this is ok but i wan't to hear it from someone else! :)

    hi, im currently working on a app for a podcast (katg.com) which will let you listen live etc... however, i have not found any open source code available to stream shoutcast. I know there are some ways of doing it, but I find it hard to find any available code on the net that explains it for a java/android beginner like myself. It has the following structure: $/Code/MainSolution $/Code/Branches I want to branch the MainSolution in $/Code/Branches So I do it, (it works perfectly), I set a working folder for that project and do a 'get latest'. But when I open that solution in Visual Studio 2005 it identifies every file as new (+ sign in front of the file) and when I commit it it goes to $/Data/NameOfTheBranch Why does it do that? Why doesn't it follow MY rules?

I've converted this into ActionScript 3.0 code since it's a Flash application.     Hello,I'm up against a problem when loading a class in a managed library from a COM Interop library. basically I have some Unmanaged C++ code and a COM Interop library written in C#. And finally a 3rd library which is referenced by the COM Interop library which contains a class: public class MyClass{ public MyClass(){} } What I'd like to do is from my unmanaged c++ code, call a function in the Interop library The C++ code doesn't need to know of the existence of the third library, it's only used within the Interop. Init(){ MyClass _class = new MyClass(); } for some reason this line in Init fails "MyClass _class = new MyClass();", and I don't get very usefull error messages, all I have to go on is a few of these in my output window: "First-chance exception at 0x7c812afb in DotNet_Com_Call.exe: Microsoft C++ exception: [rethrow] at memory location 0x00000000.." and the HRESULT of the "HRESULT hr = pDotNetCOMPtr-Init();" line in my C++ code is "The system cannot find the specified file" I'm new to COM so if anyone has any ideas or pointer to get me going the right direction, I'd appreciate it, Thanks

  • running asp.net 3.5 and asp.net 2.0 in same site

    We're running ASP.Net 2.0 on our corporate web site, and I'd like to get it up to ASP.Net 3.5 as smoothly as possible. The project/solution architecture in VS 2005 is an ASP.Net 2.0 web project and an .Net 2.0 data access layer project which is used by the site code. Upon opening the projects in a new VS 2008 solution they seemed to be converted to .Net 3.5 with a minimum of fuss - they built correctly out of the box, deployed successfully, and seem to work just fine, which is exactly as I would expect given that .Net 2.0 and 3.5 share a common runtime. The major difference after the conversion is that the web.config file's referenced dlls are now the 3.5 versions. What I would like to do is to update the site piecemeal; as I make modifications to a given page send the 3.5 verson of that page over to our webserver and not update the whole site at once. In testing on our dev box this approach seems to be working fine - the site code is interacting with the .Net 3.5 data access layer without difficulty, a handful of pages are running 3.5 page-behind code (by this I mean that they're running assemblies built in VS 2008 - the site is using single-page assemblies for code behind), the 3.5 web.config is in place, and the bulk of the site is running code-behind assemblies built in VS2005. Everything looks great. Which makes me worried that I'm missing something. Is this architecture workable, or is there a problem lying is wait for m that I haven't considered?

    Recently, my Internet slowed down drastically. I downloaded a tool to see the TCP/IP connections from my Vista computer. I found out that a lot TCP/IP connections are being connected to 212.192.255.240 through SVCHost. It seems that it is trying to connect to different ports. I think that my computer is being infected with some kind of malware etc. But I am not sure how to get rid of it. I did a little bit of research on this IP but found nothing. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. UPDATE: This is the HiJackThis log file and I can't find any thing weird.
