  • Best way to update record X when Y is inserted

    I have a huge table that is mainly used for backup and administrative purposes. The only records that matters is the last inserted record. On every hit to order by time inserted is just too slow. I want keep a separate table with the last inserted id. In PHP I now insert, get last inserted id, and update the other table. Is there a more efficient way to do this.

    Hi! I'm using MySQL with PHP. This is like my table: (I'm using 3 values, but there are more) id | 1 | 2 | 3 1 | 3 |12 |-29 2 | 5 |8 |8 3 | 99|7 |NULL I need to get the greatest value in a certain row. If should get: (id - output) (1 - 2), (2-2), (3-1). Is there any queries for this? I've been trying, but I can't get it to work right.

    Is it possible via script/tool to generate a delete statement based on the tables fk relations. i.e. I have the table: DelMe(ID) and there are 30 tables with fk references to its ID that I need to delete first, is there some tool/script that I can run that will generate the 30 delete statements based on the FK relations for me ? (btw I know about cascade delete on the relations, I can't use it in this existing db) I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2008

  • Is there a way to have element behind a div (links) clickable in areas where the div is "transparent

    I have a block element that is positioned absolutely and some other elements on page that are positioned fixed. The effect is the block on top floats over the page which works well. The links in the elements at the bottom underneath are not clickable. They shouldn't be when the content of the div is over them, but when the "marginal" areas which are transparent are over the links they are visible, but clicks only register to the covering div. The problem only happens when the padding covers the div. But if I just rely on the margin the bottom margin is ignored by browser so the scroll doesn't go high enough up. To solve this I resort to padding at the bottom. This is the problem. Is there a clean way around this? I realize I could have the underneath elements doubled and place on top, but opacity set to 0. That is an undesirable solution however.   • How can I add a column to this union result?

    I have this query (which I removed some keys from for brevity's sake): SELECT id as in_id, out_id, recipient, sender, read_flag FROM received WHERE recipient=1 UNION ALL SELECT in_id, id AS out_id, recipient, sender, read_flag FROM sent WHERE sender=1 Which combines the results from two tables showing messages sent and received by a given user. What I'd like to do is add a column/flag to the result to distinguish which table the row belongs to so when I display them I can show a relevant icon for sent or received messages. How would I add this?
