  Hi guy, I update my rails application 2.0.2 to 2.3.5. I use active scaffold for the administration part. I change nothing in my code but a problem is coming with the update. I have a controller 'admin/user_controller' to manage users. Basically allowing me to automatically check a user can do a certain thing, and then disabling or enabling menu items etc I am not really looking for asp.net security ... as i need to use it in my own service layer and clients both WEB and WPF will use it. I was hoping for something that allows me to create new roles and groups against users and then check what type of permissions a user has or a group has Any help really appreciated.. • Where to start when programming process synchronization algorithms like clone/fork, semaphores

  I am writing a program that simulates process synchronization. I am trying to implement the fork and semaphore techniques in C++, but am having trouble starting off. Do I just create a process and send it to fork from the very beginning? Is the program just going to be one infinite loop that goes back and forth between parent/child processes? And how do you create the idea of 'shared memory' in C++, explicit memory address or just some global variable? I just need to get the overall structure/idea of the flow of the program. Any references would be appreciated.

• Accidental Complexity in OpenSSL HMAC functions

  SSL Documentation Analaysis This question is pertaining the usage of the HMAC routines in OpenSSL. Since Openssl documentation is a tad on the weak side in certain areas, profiling has revealed that using the: unsigned char *HMAC(const EVP_MD *evp_md, const void *key, int key_len, const unsigned char *d, int n, unsigned char *md, unsigned int *md_len); From here, shows 40% of my library runtime is devoted to creating and taking down **HMAC_CTX's behind the scenes. There are also two additional function to create and destroy a HMAC_CTX explicetly: HMAC_CTX_init() initialises a HMAC_CTX before first use. It must be called. HMAC_CTX_cleanup() erases the key and other data from the HMAC_CTX and releases any associated resources. It must be called when an HMAC_CTX is no longer required. These two function calls are prefixed with: The following functions may be used if the message is not completely stored in memory My data fits entirely in memory, so I choose the HMAC function -- the one whose signature is shown above. The context, as described by the man page, is made use of by using the following two functions: HMAC_Update() can be called repeatedly with chunks of the message to be authenticated (len bytes at data). HMAC_Final() places the message authentication code in md, which must have space for the hash function output. The Scope of the Application My application generates a authentic (HMAC, which is also used a nonce), CBC-BF encrypted protocol buffer string. The code will be interfaced with various web-servers and frameworks Windows / Linux as OS, nginx, Apache and IIS as webservers and Python / .NET and C++ web-server filters. The description above should clarify that the library needs to be thread safe, and potentially have resumeable processing state -- i.e., lightweight threads sharing a OS thread (which might leave thread local memory out of the picture). The Question How do I get rid of the 40% overhead on each invocation in a (1) thread-safe / (2) resume-able state way ? (2) is optional since I have all of the source-data present in one go, and can make sure a digest is created in place without relinquishing control of the thread mid-digest-creation. So, (1) can probably be done using thread local memory -- but how do I resuse the CTX's ? does the HMAC_final() call make the CTX reusable ?. (2) optional: in this case I would have to create a pool of CTX's. (3) how does the HMAC function do this ? does it create a CTX in the scope of the function call and destroy it ? Psuedocode and commentary will be useful.

• How to correctly pop a modeless dialog from console using MFC

  I need to create a console application that has a main() function and pop a modeless dialog, so the console can still work in parallel to the modeless dialog (do other work, like communicating with the modeless dialog). Whatever i tried, i could only pop a modal dialog. (where the console is in hold till the modal dialog close itself). When switching to modeless dialog using Create() and ShowWindow() the dialog is displayed without its controls and it freeze / block (you can see the hourglass cursor). 1) i tried to pop the modeless dialog from the main() function 2) i tried to pop the modeless dialog from the InitInstance() of a CWinApp derived class In all cases the modeless dialog freeze / block.   I need to create a simple app which can display geometries from Oracle Spatial in C#. These geometries are exported from AutoCAD Map 3D 2010 to Oracle Spatial.   Im trying to dynamically create a method chain in one attribute in my model. By now I have this function: def create_filtered_attribute(attribute_name) alias_attribute "#{attribute_name}_without_filter", attribute_name define_method "#{attribute_name}" do filter_words(self.send("#{attribute_name}_without_filter")) end end so I receive a string with the attribute name, alias it for '*_without_filter*' (alias_method or alias_method_chain fails here, because the attribute isnt there when the class is created), and I create a new method with the attribute name, where I filter its contents. But somehow, when I call *"#{attribute_name}_without_filter"* it calls my new method (i think because the alias_attribute some how), and the program goes into a stack loop. Can someone please enlighten me on this.

  Are there any issues when using IBAction when it is not actually called from a user's action? If you have an action like -(IBAction)sayHello:(id)sender; You can call it from within your class like: [self sayHello:@"x"] The @"x" doesn't do anything, it just fills in for the sender. You can actually create an IBAction method without (id)sender -(IBAction)sayHello; and call it from both user's actions and from within the code, but then you won't get any useful sender info from the interface. What's the 'correct' way of filling in for the sender, when calling from the code? And can you create sender info to send when it's called from within the code? Just trying to figure it out.

The problem lies in that a constructor cannot exist twice with the same type of parameters. Sure I can tell the logical difference between the two paramters, but the computer can't.   I'd like to override the Dispose method of generated proxy (ClientBase) because of the fact that disposing of a proxy calls Close and can throw an exception when the channel is faulted. Do you see any issue with this strategy? Also, I don't like the fact that I'll have to create this partial class for every generated proxy. It be nice if I was able to make my proxy inherit from a base class...

  Hello, I am using git with an svn repository everything is going fine I did all my branching with git so I did not branch on svn but I branched with git and pushed those branches to a separate location. Then I commited changed from the branch when needed. But now I want to create some branches that actually exist on svn I tried: $ git svn branch someFeature -m "message" ,and I got this: $ git svn branch someFeature -m "message" Multiple branch paths defined for Subversion repository. You must specify where you want to create the branch with the --destination argument. How should I specify the destination I cant figure this out and the man page isn't that clear also.

Dynamic node based categorization, meaning node can identify them self as being part of group X (ganglia gets this almost right, but lacks the dynamic part...) Does not require multicast support (generally not allowed in cloud based setups) Plugins for recent cool stuff such as Hadoop, Cassandra, Mongo would be cool. More features include: External API, web interface and co. I've looked at Ganglia, munin and they both seem be almost there (but not exactly).
