• C#.NET framework 3.5 SP1: satellite assemblies and FullTrust issues when the exe is on the network.

  Hi, I'm executing my .NET app from a network share. Since framework 3.5 SP1, and as explained here: http://blogs.msdn.com/shawnfa/archive/2008/05/12/fulltrust-on-the-localintranet.aspx, the main exe and all the DLLs located in the same folder (but not subfolders) are granted with FullTrust security policy. My problem is that I have subfolders for satellite assemblies with localized strings. Namely, I have: 1) FOLDER\APP.EXE 2) FOLDER\A whole bunch of DLLs 3) FOLDER\LANGUAGE1\Satellite assemblies 4) FOLDER\LANGUAGE2\Satellite assemblies 1 and 2 are automatically granted with FullTrust. 3 and 4 are not and my application is really slow because of that. Is there a way to grant 3 & 4 FullTrust security policy at runtime, since the application running has FullTrust? If not, is there a clean way to have satellite assemblies merged into only one DLL? • How to (pre)start xamlx workflow service

  Related to this question. I have a xamlx workflow service that loads part of its definition from a database when it runs (using ActivityXamlServices.Load). Reason for this is that I need versioning, see the related question. I'll use WCF routing to direct calls to the right service. The part that I load dynamically contains a Receive activity. However, this activity is 'invisible' as long as the workflow doesn't start because the part of the workflow I load from the database is only loaded when the workflow starts. So from the outside it appears as if there is no Receive activity in the workflow. Apart from not being able to generate a contract for the workflow service, I can't call the service either. My first attempt was to do a soap call with the right contract on the workflow service. However, the runtime doesn't automagically activate my workflow in that case. So the question is, how do I start a workflow that is hosted inside IIS? Regards, Ronald

  First of all, I wrote a simple php page, that picks up some variables from the POST parameters such as a query and a authentication string, and returns the result as xml. I intend to call this page with the WebClient class from a Silverlight application. I'm using POST because we are querying the database with any valid sql statement, not only select statements. The WebClient class uses the UploadDataAsync method to post to a http server, however it requires the post parameters be passed as a NameValueCollection. This class is missing in the Silverlight runtime. How do I proceed???

• Installing PygraphViz on Windows, Python 2.6

  Anybody out there has successfully installed PygraphViz on Windows? Since there is not an official release for Windows, I'm trying to build it myself, but it fails to compile. I'm not the first one to face this issue, but I could not find an answer. • Rails 3 can not find sqlite3-ruby

  I am trying to learn rails3. I tried folowing the installation guide from guides.rails.info, I installed sudo gem install rake rack-test rack-mount erubis mail sudo gem install tzinfo builder i18n memcache-client sudo gem install text-format thor And rails 3 via sudo gem install rails --pre Now I create a new app rails abc And try rake db:create Which fails with Could not find gem 'sqlite3-ruby (>= 0, runtime)' in any of the sources. So I try installing sqlite3-ruby sudo gem install sqlite3-ruby Which fails with Could not create Makefile due to some reason, probably lack of necessary libraries and/or headers. Check the mkmf.log file for more details. You may need configuration options. So I install it via apt-get sudo aptitude install libsqlite3-ruby1.8. And still get same error on rake db:create.

• Android: How to receive process signals in an activity to kill child process ?

  My application calls Runtime.exec() to launch an executable in a separate process at start up time. I would like this child process to get killed when the parent activity exits. Now I can use onDestroy() to handle regular cases, but not "Force quit", shutdowns from DDMS, or kill from the console since those don't run onDestroy(). The addShutdownHandler() does not seem to be invoked in these cases either. Is there any other hook or signal handler that informs my activity that it's about to get terminated ? As an alternative is there a way to have the system automatically kill the child process when the parent dies ?

• Getting a .Net remoting service accessible with IP v6 and IP v4

  My company has an existing .Net Remoting service that listens on a port, fronting interfaces used by external systems. This all works great with IP v4 based communications. However, this service now needs to support both IP v4 communications and IP v6 communications. I have found info that the system.runtime.remoting section of the app.config should include two channels as follows: <channel ref="tcp" name="tcp6" port="9000" bindTo="[::]" /> <channel ref="tcp" name="tcp4" port="9000" bindTo="0.0.0.0" /> I've tried this. For communications to this service and a direct response back, this works great. Some of the communications instead return a stream back, either for uploading or downloading large files. These calls fail with the an ArgumentException: IPv4 address 0.0.0.0 and IPv6 address ::0 are unspecified addresses that cannot be used as a target address. Parameter name: hostNameOrAddress How should these config values be modified so that the client will know how to communicate back to the .Net remoting service?

• Cannot use WCF service from windows mobile 5: no endpoint found.

  Hi All, I'm trying to figure out how to call a WCF service from a windows smart phone. I have a very simple smartphone console app, which does nothing but launch and make 1 call to the service. The service simply returns a string. I am able to instantiate the proxy class but when i call the method it throws an exception: There was no endpoint listening at http://mypcname/Service1.svc/basic that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. The inner exception: Could not establish connection to network. I've tried to follow this tutorial on setting up services with windows mobile. I've used the NetCFSvcUtil to create the proxy classes. I have the service running on IIS on my machine and had the Util consume the wsdl from that location. I've created a basic http binding as suggested in the article and i think i've pointed the proxy at the correct uri. Here some sections of relevant code in case it's helpful to see. If anyone has any suggestions, i'd really appreciate it. I'm not sure what else i can poke at to get this thing to work. Thanks! • Error creating System.Type from string "System.Int32"

  On a web site I published (pre-compiled) last night, I get the following error. Before pre-compiling it, I was getting a compiler error that a User Control was not found. After compiling on another machine, and running, I get the following Parser error: "Cannot create an object of type 'System.Type' from its srting representation 'System.Int32' for the 'DataType' property" was the, now runtime, parser error I got. The offending tag is telerik:RadNumericTextBox .... DataType="System.Int32"... I emphasise again that this error only occurs on XP SP2, not on Vista and Win7. I'm off to do some Googling and issue logging at Telerik.

• java serial I/O: handling USB serial connection/disconnection in a robust manner

  I'm using rxtx for serial I/O handling in Java with an FTDI2232H that provides a USB comm port. It works great, with one exception: if I unplug the USB cable, so that the COM port disappears at runtime, it spews exceptions left and right: java.io.IOException: No error in nativeavailable at gnu.io.RXTXPort.nativeavailable(Native Method) at gnu.io.RXTXPort$SerialInputStream.read(RXTXPort.java:1427) at gnu.io.RXTXPort$SerialInputStream.read(RXTXPort.java:1339) and when I re-plug the cable in again, it does not recover. Is there any way to get rxtx to work properly with USB comm port connection/disconnection? (I've tried to post to the rxtx mailing list but for some strange reason I cannot send messages even though I am subscribed to the list. I've emailed the list admin and have gotten no response.) If not, is there another serial I/O framework that does?

  I have been getting the error "The required version of the .NET Framework is not installed on this computer." (Event Id 4096 in Event log) when trying to install a VSTO application from both a ClickOnce deployment and a local copy. This is interesting as the .NET framework is installed (on my 32bit Windows 7 PC) and the VSTO application was developed on the self same machine (and works in Visual Studio 2008). Does anybody has an idea why I could get this exception? • Why does my .NET Windows service not start automatically sometimes?

  Hi all, I have modified a working Windows service that had always been starting beforehand. After adding the System.Management reference it now sometimes will not start automatically. I get the following error: Service cannot be started. System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80010002): Call was canceled by the message filter. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010002 (RPC_E_CALL_CANCELED)) I found another post here on SO with someone having the same issue. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/998883/why-wont-my-net-windows-service-start-automatically-after-a-reboot However, the proposed solution was to have the service start after the services it depends on have started. However, when I go to the Dependencies tab for my service, I see: Should I just use the workaround method of putting the thread to sleep, or is there a more proper way of getting this service to start correctly? Is this happening because .NET has not started before my service starts? Thanks, Tomek

  I'm using the Excel interop in C# (ApplicationClass) and have placed the following code in my finally clause: while (System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(excelSheet) != 0) { } excelSheet = null; GC.Collect(); GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers(); Although, this kind of works the Excel.exe process is still in the background even after I close Excel. It is only released once my application is manually closed. Anyone realize what I am doing wrong, or has an alternative to ensure interop objects are properly disposed of. Thanks.

• License Check before executing

  Hi, We have an application (written in C# on .NET Framework 3.5) that is licensed using our custom licensing mechanism. In the current implementation, in each method we first check for if the machine has valid license or not. To me, it is little bit awkward. Is there any way to let the runtime check for the license before creating the object or excuting a method? Will writing a custom attribute solves this problem?   I've been developing web applications and iPhone applications for years. Now I want to create a web application oriented to the iPhone browser. I willing to use Dashcode, since it seams to have tons of cool features that make my web app look like an native iPhone app. The problem I face is twofold: On one side I don't know it Dashcode development will allow me to do all I want (session control, runtime datasources, etc); on the other side I'm having a hard time finding good documentation, tutorials and books on Dashcode programing for the iPhone. • Calling a native callback from managed .NET code (when loading the managed code using COM)

  Hi, I am really confused by the multitude of misinformation about native / managed interop. I have a C++ exe which is NOT built using CLR stuff (it is not Managed C++ or C++/CLI and never will be). I would like to access some code I have in a C# assembly. I can access the C# assembly using COM. However, when my C# code detects an event I would like it to call back into my C++ code. The C++ function pointer to call back into will be provided at runtime. Note that the C++ function pointer is a function found in the exe's execution environment. I don't want the managed code to try and load up some DLL to call a function (there is no DLL). How do I pass this C++ function pointer to my C# code through .NET and have my C# code successfully call it? Thanks!

  I have a .Net 2 C# application I am developing which uses a VB 6 generated COM DLL. The VB DLL is updated frequently any my application crashes with a System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154). The part of the COM DLL I use does not change but the version (and CLSID) will. The "Specific Version" option for the reference is false. The WrapperTool is tlbimp. How do I tell my application not to worry about changes in the DLL? Is there any way of checking just the functions I am using?

I have my table like this Product (uuid, Name) and one datagridview to display this information ( dataGridView.DataSouce = Products which is assign on runtime) My problem is that I want to have "No" column on dataGridView which will show like below No | Name 1 | ProdctA 2 | ProductB 3 | ProductC What I do right now is create a "No" field on my product Model, and loop through all the row and assign value to it.   Hi! I'm developing an outlook 2003 add-in. Until now I used only winforms to display one form, but today I've added a WPF window for more complex stuff. DUe to the WPF window, a COM exception is being thrown when outlook shuts down. Does anybody know why? I need to start a separate thread for the WPF window in single apartment state. • ASP.NET Load unmanaged dll from bin folder

  Question: I use an embedded Firebird database in ASP.NET. Now, Firebird has a .NET wrapper around native dlls. The problem is, with the .NET compilation and execution process, the dlls get shadow copied to a temporary folder. Unfortunately, only the .NET dlls, and not the native dll. Now, this makes it necessary to put the unmanaged dll somewhere into the system32 directory (or any other directory in the path environment variable). Now, I want to change the wrapper/native dll (opensource), so it loads the dll also if they are only in the bin folder. Now, my problem is, how can I, in .NET, load an unmanaged dll from an absolute path ? The absolute path is determined at runtime, not at compile-time...

  Hi, I've started exploring XUL Runner as a potential tool for an upcoming app. I can get some good examples running using the command line xulrunner-bin myapp. How can compile it all in a native looking application, like SongBird does. I understand SongBird packages the entire xul runtime with it, and I'm happy with that. I'm just wondering is there are any tool I can use to compile my xul project as a standalone app? Any Mac and/or PC hint much appreciated! EDIT: I guess what I'm looking for is a way to generate a Mac and/or PC XUL stub application (but not an installer). Is there something like that? cheers Ben
