    I have a situation where I need to, when in Radgrid Edit Mode and user makes a selection on a contained dropdownlist, display a modalPopup containing a Checkboxlist populated with data that relates to dropdownlist selection. When Selections are made on the checkboxlist, and OK button clicked, I want to return to the RadGrid Edit template, and populate a textbox in the template with the checkbox selected information. Anyone have a clear idea of how I ought to handle this. An example will be greatly appreciated please.

  • Is there a way to add name/value functionality to jquery autocomplete for .net?

    I've recently added the JQuery autocomplete plug in and have a textbox that autocompletes a list of employees. It works great and I commend the authors of the plugin. I think the textbox would be MUCH more useful though, when upon selecting, we can extract the StaffID (Ie. retreive the value of the selection). My code is below and you can see that I am simply adding the staff names, would be nice to associate IDs. Does anyone know of any way to do this?     hi there. have looked at Phil Haacks project on books at http://haacked.com/archive/2008/10/23/model-binding-to-a-list.aspx which has been useful, but I have a mix of data types. I use a modelview so that i can have a mix of objects, in this case: Order (ie order.id, order.date etc), Customer, SoilSamplingOrder and a list of SoilSamplingSubJobs which is like this [0].id, [0].field, [1].id, [1].field etc Perhaps I should be using ICollection instead of List? I had problems getting UpdateModel to work so I used an extract from collection method. the first 4 method calls : orderRepository.FindOrder(id); etc give the model the original to be edited. but after this point i'm a little lost in how to update the subjobs. I hope i have delineated enough to make sense of the problem.     Hi this is a discussion between me and me to understand isolated storage issue. can you help me to convince me about isolated storage!! This is a code written in windows form app (reader) that read the isolated storage of another win form app (writer) which is signed. where is the security if the reader can read the writer's file, I thought only signed code can access the file! If all .Net applications born equal and have all permissions to access Isolated storage, where is the security then? If I can install and run Exe from isolated storage, why I don't install a virus and run it, I am trusted to access this area. but the virus or what ever will not be trusted to access the rest of file system, it only can access the memory, and this is dangerous enough. I cannot see any difference between using app data folder to save the state and using isolated storage except a long nasty path!! I want to try give low trust to Reader code and retest, but they said "Isolated storage is actually created for giving low trusted application the right to save its state".     I'm creating an HttpModule that needs to know the value of Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture as set in an MVC application. That value is currently being set by the BaseController, but when my HttpModule.PostRequestHandlerExecute() method fires, it reverts to what the Culture was prior to page rendering. I have duplicated this by creating a simple web app with these steps: Module.PreRequestHandlerExecute: Set culture to A Page_Load: Culture is currently A. Set culture to B Module.PostRequestHandlerExecute: Current thread culture is A. I expected it to be B but it was changed between page rendering and PostRequestHandlerExecute Any idea why .Net changes this value or how I could get around it? The thread is the same, so something in .Net must be explicitly reverting the culture.

In VS2008, I placed these files in the App_Code folder and intellisense worked fine. What can I do? Is there a specific folder I need to put these files in to get intellisense?

    What is your preferred way to handle hits to files that does not exist on your MVC app. I have couple of web apps runing with MVC and they are constantly getting hits for files folders etc. that does not exist in the app structure. Apps are throwing exception: The controller for path could not be found or it does not implement IController I am trying to find out the best way to handle this. I have 3 global routes on my global.asax file (see below) and at this point I am happy with that simple definition. I've seen other people's code that does this: writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Id, this.ID + "_divTest"); That will prevent naming conflicts between instances of my control, but what if I've already created a div elsewhere on the page that coincidentally has the same ID? I've also heard about implementing INamingContainer. Would that apply here? How could I use it?

    I really need a localized dropdown calendar. An English calendar doesn't exactly communicate excellence on a Norwegian website ;-) I have experimented with the jQuery DatePicker, their website says it can be localized, however that doesn't seem to work. I am using ASPNET.MVC, and I really want to stick to one javascript library. In this case jQuery. The ajax toolkit calendar would be acceptable, if only it too would display Norwegian names. Update: Awesome! I see I am missing the language files, a not so minor detail :-)

    I have a .Net webservice on my app server that returns data formatted as JSONP. I have an HTML test client on that server which works fine using IE, Firefox, & Chrome. If I copy the same HTML to my workstation or deploy to my webserver it works with Firefox & Chrome but in IE I'm getting two javascript errors.     I've browsed around the other articles on StackOverflow that relate to caching WCF proxies for reuse, and I've read this article explaining why I should explicitly open the proxy before calling anything on it. I'm still a little hazy on the best implementation details. My question is: when should I open and close proxies for service calls on a website, and what should their lifetime be (per call, per request, or per web app)? We aren't planning on leveraging cached security contexts at the moment (but it's not unforeseeable). Thanks!

  • problems with user control page

    I am starting to give up troubleshooting this issue I had... I had an .ascx page and had the following user control in it: <td> <Club:DatePicker ID="dp1" runat="server" /> </td> however in my code behind when I tried to write methods: public System.DateTime startDateTime { get { return dp1.SelectedDate.Add(tp1.SelectedTime.TimeOfDay); } set { dp1.SelectedDate = value; tp1.SelectedTime = value; } } It can't reference dp1(dp1 is underlined in red) as well as tp1... why is this?? I've tried to convert the solution to a web application and yet it doesn't work.   • MVC 2 AntiForgeryToken - Why symmetric encryption + IPrinciple?

    We recently updated our solution to MVC 2, and this has updated the way that the AntiForgeryToken works. Unfortunately this does not fit with our AJAX framework any more. The problem is that MVC 2 now uses symmetric encryption to encode some properties about the user, including the user's Name property (from IPrincipal). We are able to securely register a new user using AJAX, after which subsequent AJAX calls will be invalid as the anti forgery token will change when the user has been granted a new principal. There are also other cases when this may happen, such as a user updating their name etc. My main question is why does MVC 2 even bother using symmetric encryption? Any then why does it care about the user name property on the principal? If my understanding is correct then any random shared secret will do. The basic principle is that the user will be sent a cookie with some specific data (HttpOnly!). This cookie is then required to match a form variable sent back with each request that may have side effects (POST's usually). Since this is only meant to protect from cross site attacks it is easy to craft up a response that would easily pass the test, but only if you had full access to the cookie. Since a cross site attacker is not going to have access to your user cookies you are protected. By using symmetric encryption, what is the advantage in checking the contents of the cookie? That is, if I already have sent an HttpOnly cookie the attacker cannot override it (unless a browser has a major security issue), so why do I then need to check it again? After having a think about it it appears to be one of those 'added layer of security' cases - but if your first line of defence has fallen (HttpOnly) then the attacker is going to get past the second layer anyway as they have full access to the users cookie collection, and could just impersonate them directly, instead of using an indirect XSS/CSRF attack. Of course I could be missing a major issue, but I haven't found it yet. If there are some obvious or subtle issues at play here then I would like to be aware of them.

    I am getting the following error: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.DynamicData, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I've researched the problem and some of the solutions are pointing to Turning on Assembly Binding Logging. I'm confused as to what this error is. So my question: *What does this error mean and how do I resolve it? I am not hosting the site in a shared hosting scenario, it is on a single server running .NET Framework 3.5.0 using IIS 6.0 Edit .Net Framework 3.5 SP 1 isn't installed on the server. The missing assemblies are apart of that Service Pack.
