  • PHP - Creating a simple array

    - by danit
    Yes I'm a n00b! Now thats out of the way, I have the following code: $page=3; $i=1; while($i<=$pages) { $urls .= "'"."http://twitter.com/favorites.xml?page=" . $i ."',"; $i++; } What I need to create is this array: $data = array('http://twitter.com/favorites.xml?page=1','http://twitter.com/favorites.xml?page=2','http://twitter.com/favorites.xml?page=3'); How can I produce an array from the 'while' loop?

  • Clojure - tail recursive sieve of Eratosthenes

    - by Konrad Garus
    I have this implementation of the sieve of Eratosthenes in Clojure: (defn sieve [n] (loop [last-tried 2 sift (range 2 (inc n))] (if (or (nil? last-tried) (> last-tried n)) sift (let [filtered (filter #(or (= % last-tried) (< 0 (rem % last-tried))) sift)] (let [next-to-try (first (filter #(> % last-tried) filtered))] (recur next-to-try filtered)))))) For larger n (like 20000) it ends with stack overflow. Why doesn't tail call elimination work here? How to fix it?

  • Working with arrays of lists pattern in java

    - by Mad Wombat
    I am writing a card game in java where I need to spread cards from a deck into several columns until I have fixed amount of cards left. This is how I do this. public class Column extends ArrayList {} List deck = Cards.createNewDeck(); Column[] columns = new Column[10]; int c = 0; while (deck.size() 50) { if (c == 10) { c = 0; } if (columns[c] == null) { columns[c] = new Column(); } columns[c].add(Cards.dealTopCard(deck)); c += 1; } This somehow seems clunky. Is there a more readable/comprehensive way of doing the same thing?

  • Easiest way to pass a javascript array or its values to a servlet and convert to a HashMap

    - by Ankur
    I have a Javascript array. I want to pass it's data to a servlet using the ajax() method of jQuery. What is the easiest way to do this. The index values i.e. the i in array[i] are not in order, they are numbers that have meaning themselves, hence I cannot simply loop through and create a GET queryString, or so I believe. Maybe I should be converting the JavaScript array to a JSON Object and sending that to the server ?? I am stumped on this one.

  • Android Stream Data Over Wifi?

    - by Neb
    Im trying to make an app for android that will stream the data of the accelerometer to be used as a game controller on my pc over a local wifi connection. Is it possible to make some kind of wifi stream of the accelerometer values in the android app and then make the pc somehow 'read' this stream? Or would it just be better for the pc to make endless calls to the phone getting the newest accelerometer values from a local android server? It would also have to send commands from the phone such as 'button1 pressed', 'button1 released'.

  • Creating client-side dynamic dependent controls , interactive user interface

    - by igor
    Hello everyone! I am looking for client-side javascript plugin for jquery(prefered, or maybe other framework) or other javascript framework, that implements dynamic, interactive user interface (fig. 1) Requirements: 1) user interface shall be dynamic (client-side, javascript). 2) the displaying of the next control shall be dependent on input of previous control(s) 3) the dependency shall be implemented in declarative form (settings, mapping, xml...) 4) this scope of controls shall be supported: dropdown list - fixed list (static, list of items has fixed scope of items) edit input (loop-up) - dynamic list, dependent on user input dropdown list - fixed list (dynamic, list of items dependent on previous input) static structure controls to display dynamic data. 5) this scope of dependencies shall be implemented: one-way: one to one one-way: one to many 6) this scope of dependency actions shall be implemented: hide (remove) control show (add) control show disabled set default value 7) controls shall be filled in by using ajax requests to the server-side application (json, xml...) Any thoughts, references, I would appreciate any assistance. Fig. 1. Interactive user interface

  • How do I Transpose with the 10,000 row limits of excel?

    - by ezlee69
    I am trying to Transpose all of column "B", but want to skip a line then grab the next 4 and paste them in the same column. How can I make this loop all of column "B" skipping every 5th line and change the range to the next open cell or "Range" automatically without manually typing each one individually? Range("B12:B16").Select Selection.Copy Sheets("Sheet2").Select Range("A2").Select Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteAll, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:= _ False, Transpose:=True Range("B18:B22").Select Selection.Copy Sheets("Sheet2").Select Range("A3").Select Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteAll, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:= _ False, Transpose:=True Range("B24:B28").Select Selection.Copy Sheets("Sheet2").Select Range("A4").Select Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteAll, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:= _ False, Transpose:=True

  • Using Unix Process Controll Methods in Ruby

    - by John F. Miller
    Ryan Tomayko touched off quite a fire storm with this post about using Unix process control commands. We should be doing more of this. A lot more of this. I'm talking about fork(2), execve(2), pipe(2), socketpair(2), select(2), kill(2), sigaction(2), and so on and so forth. These are our friends. They want so badly just to help us. I have a bit of code (a delayed_job clone for DataMapper that I think would fit right in with this, but I'm not clear on how to take advantage of the listed commands. Any Ideas on how to improve this code? def start say "*** Starting job worker #{@name}" t = Thread.new do loop do delay = Update.work_off(self) break if $exit sleep delay break if $exit end clear_locks end trap('TERM') { terminate_with t } trap('INT') { terminate_with t } trap('USR1') do say "Wakeup Signal Caught" t.run end end

  • Java/Swing: the fast/slow UI binding problem

    - by Jason S
    I need a way to bind UI indicators to rapidly-changing values. I have a class NumberCruncher which does a bunch of heavy processing in a critical non-UI thread, thousands of iterations of a loop per second, and some number of those result in changes to a set of parameters I care about. (think of them as a key-value store) I want to display those at a slower rate in the UI thread; 10-20Hz would be fine. How can I add MVC-style notification so that my NumberCruncher code doesn't need to know about the UI code/binding?

  • Sprite backgrounds

    - by Mattias Akerman
    I use cocos2d for iphone and in my game I'm using a sprite as static background image. I've noticed that when removing code for adding the sprite the framerate goes from ~30fps to over 40fps. Is it any other way to show a static background that is less expensive? I'm not moving the background sprite at all. To code right now: background = [Sprite spriteWithFile:@"t1_5.jpg"]; [self addChild:background z:0]; background.position = ccp(240, 160);

  • Flash causing jerky javascript animations

    - by Matt Brailsford
    Hi Guys, I'm developing a site which has a flash background playing a small video loop scaled to fill the whole background. Over the top I have a number of HTML elements which are animated using javascript. The problem I am having is that (predominantly in FF, but also in others to a lesser degree) the flash seems to be causing my javascript animations to run rather jerky, and in some cases missing the animation altogether and just jumping to the end state. Does anybody have any thoughts on how to make the 2 work together nicely? Many thanks Matt

  • How to properly close a process with NppExec?

    - by Sam the Great
    I'm not sure what's going on here, but the following code continues running even after I end the process in the NppExec console with Ctrl-C (during the execution of the while loop). I restarted my computer to stop the Ctrl key sends. However, if I run the script in Window's cmd prompt, Ctrl-C ends the script just fine. import time import win32com.client shell = win32com.client.Dispatch("WScript.Shell") time.sleep(2) while True: shell.SendKeys('^') # Ctrl key time.sleep(0.5) The NppExec run command I used was: cmd /C python -u "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)" Let me know if there is any more information I can provide. Thanks.

  • Grouping rectangles (getting the bounding boxes of rects)

    - by hyn
    What is a good, fast way to get the "final" bounding boxes of a set of random (up to about 40, not many) rectangles? By final I mean that all bounding boxes don't intersect with any other. Brute force way: in a double for loop, for each rect, test for intersection against every other rect. The intersecting rects become a new rect (replaced), indicating the bounding box. Start over and repeat until no intersection is detected. Because the rects are random every time, and the rect count is relatively small, collision detection using spatial hashing seems like overkill. Is there a way to do this more effectively?

  • MS-Access nested DIR - check if a file exists elsewhere whilst looping through a folder

    - by David Carle
    I have used the DIR() command in Microsoft Access 2003 to loop through the files in folder A. This works fine, but I need to check if each file also exists in another location (folder B), and only process the file if it doesn't exist in folder B. The problem is that checking for the file existing in folder B also uses the DIR() function and this then resets or confuses the original one, with the result that no further files are found in folder A. Is there a way to check if a file exists without using DIR? Or, is there a way to have a separate instance of DIR? I suppose I could build a list of the files in folder A into an array and then process the entries in the array, but this seems rather 'clunky' Any suggestions for a better solution? Thanks

  • C++: ifstream::getline problem

    - by Jay
    I am reading a file like this: char string[256]; std::ifstream file( "file.txt" ); // open the level file. if ( ! file ) // check if the file loaded fine. { // error } while ( file.getline( string, 256, ' ' ) ) { // handle input } Just for testing purposes, my file is just one line, with a space at the end: 12345 My code first reads the 12345 successfully. But then instead of the loop ending, it reads another string, which seems to be a return/newline. I have saved my file both in gedit and in nano. And I have also outputted it with the Linux cat command, and there is no return on the end. So the file should be fine. Why is my code reading a return/newline? Thanks.

  • Where to start when programming process synchronization algorithms like clone/fork, semaphores

    - by David
    I am writing a program that simulates process synchronization. I am trying to implement the fork and semaphore techniques in C++, but am having trouble starting off. Do I just create a process and send it to fork from the very beginning? Is the program just going to be one infinite loop that goes back and forth between parent/child processes? And how do you create the idea of 'shared memory' in C++, explicit memory address or just some global variable? I just need to get the overall structure/idea of the flow of the program. Any references would be appreciated.

  • List the names of existing directories from .tgz file in a bash variable

    - by Tom
    I would like to find all the directories that are in a .tgz file and that already exist on the system and put the result in a bash variable. I have tried this: EXISTING=`for f in \`tar tzf $ARCHIVE\`; do if [ -d "/tmp/unpacked-data/\$f" ]; then echo \$f; fi; done` with no luck. If I echo the value of $f before the if in the loop, I get all the files, ie this works: EXISTING=`for f in \`tar tzf $ARCHIVE\`; do echo \$f; done` Can someone tell me why the \$f doesn't work in the if statement? Thanks, Tom

Any hints ? Thanks.

  • Win32 call order

    - by DD
    Hi all, I have two windows that I send scripted input to. The procedure goes as this BringWindowToTop( window1 ); i = Build input structures( window1 ); SendInput(i); BringWindowToTop( window2 ); i = Build input structures( window2 ); SendInput(i); I was having trouble with inputs not being sent and the correct time. I put delays after each call and saw that input from the first SendInput() was processed after window2 is brought to top. Same thing at the end of the loop as well. Are SendInput calls buffered? If so, how can I make sure of a serial execution of this code? Thanks

  • Problem displaying Vertex Buffer Object (OpenGL and Obj-C)

    - by seaworthy
    Hey, I am having a problem displaying or loading a buffer with an array of vertices. I know that array works fine because I am able to render it using a loop and a glVertex command. I can't figure out what's wrong. Your insight is highly appreciated. GLuint vboId; glGenBuffers( 1, &vboId ); glBindBuffer( GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, vboId); glBufferData( GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, count*sizeof( GLfloat ),array,GL_STATIC_DRAW_ARB ); glBindBuffer( GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, 0 ); printf("%d\n",count); glEnableClientState( GL_VERTEX_ARRAY ); glBindBuffer( GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, vboId ); glVertexPointer( 3, GL_FLOAT, 0, 0 ); glDisableClientState( GL_VERTEX_ARRAY ); printf("vboId: [%hd]",vboId); glDeleteBuffers(1, &vboId); Help?

My txt file is a UTF-8 encoding. Any suggestions?? Thank you to all...
