• Cannot run "Automation Anywhere" exe files from console (session 0) on Windows Server 2003 64 bit

  I have a simple exe created from an Automation Anywhere task that displays a message box saying hello world. I created this simple exe just for debugging the following issue. When I log in to the console (session 0), and run the Automation Anywhere created executable, it starts to run the task, it shows up in the applications and processes list in the task manager and it shows the two "loading..." windows briefly on the screen, just like normal. But after that, nothing happens... the "hello world" message does not show up. The exe is done and is removed from the application and process list in the task manager. The user I am logged in as, has admin rights and the machine uses "autologin" to automatically log in using this profile when it starts up. If I right click on the exe and "run as" another admin user, the exe runs properly, showing the "hello world" message. Also, if I log into the server in a new session, with the original user (the one that has the problems in session 0), and then run the exe, it runs properly and shows the "hello world". It works fine in any session other than the console session. There is something about the console session that is causing the exe not to run properly... even though it does appear to start running the exe. I should also mention that everything was working fine until Monday at midnight, after which none of the executables could be run successfully. Nothing was changed on the server and no updates were installed. I have since installed windows updates, but that didn't change anything. Looking for some advice on how to get these executables working in the console session again. Thanks!

• Strange ZFS hidden filesystem problem

  Half of my ZFS filesystems are hidden in ZFS-fuse. Here's my story: So, I love ZFS. I used it for about six months on FreeBSD, but due to it crashing the kernel during heavy inter-filesystem IO load, I tried switching to Solaris 5.10. That was good, but when I attempted to do an import of my Version 13 pool into its Version 4 version of ZFS, there were some heafty problems. It may have tried to correct the filesystem definitions, I don't know. Since that version wasn't compatible with my pool, I've now switched to Ubuntu Server 10.4. That version more than supports that of my pool, but I can only see half of my filesystems. The filesystems I can see are the same as those Solaris could see. Now, despite those filesystems not being preset in a 'zfs list' command, I can still set properties on them and I can even still mount them and read and write files, but they just plain don't show up in 'zfs list'. I've mounted the major ones, but I'm not sure what other filesystems there are anymore (I have about eight that I can't see). Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on? I think I might try booting back into FreeBSD 8 (I still have the main boot drive laying around for that) and see if at least it is able to view the filesystems. I've also done a scrub while in Linux, and it found no errors with any of the data. Oddly, DMA read errors which caused problems on FreeBSD ZFS are reported by Linux, but ZFS-fuse doesn't find an error. That's a topic for another post however.

• .htaccess Permission denied. Unable to check htaccess file

  I have a strange problem when adding a sub-domain to our virtual server. I have done similar sub-domains before and they have worked fine. When I try to access the sub-domain I get an 403 Forbidden error. I checked the error logs and have the following error: pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable I've searched Google and could only find solutions regarding file and folder permissions, that I have checked and the solution isn't solved. I also saw problems with Frontpage Extensions, but that's not installed on the server. Edit Forgot to say that there isn't a .htaccess file in the directory of the sub-domain Edit #2 Still not been able to find a solution on this. Only things I have been able to find out is: It doesn't seem to be a problem with any .htaccess files (I've tried creating blank ones, with correct user privileges). It doesn't seem to be a problem with any folder permissions as they are all set correct. There isn't a problem with the way the sub-domain has been set up, as I've tried pointing the DocumentRoot to another folder and it worked fine. I've also done sub-domains fine before with no problem. Edit #3 Find out more information. I don't think it can be a file permission problem now, because if I access it by going to the server ip and then the directory where the site is hosted it all works fine (minus the stylesheets & images, which is just down to how they are linked)

  I'm trying to get Apache to redirect all http and https traffic to a single endpoint www.example.org. It is my understanding that I need to specify one specific IP address, because the Host directive is also sent encrypted. Afterwards, the connection is as responsive as could be. If I change the default policy for my FORWARD chain to "ACCEPT", then the password promt is there imediatly. I have tried analysing the logs, but I can not spot a difference in the logs for ACCEPT/DROP in my FORWARD chain. Also I have tried allowing all the unprivileged ports, as box1 uses thoses for doing ssh to box2. Any hints? (If the whole setup seems strange to you - the point of the exercise is to understand iptables ;))

• Error 0x80300001 Installing Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit on FastTrak TX4660 RAID volume

  I am trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit on the following hardware: motherboard Intel DBS1200BTL Promise FastTrak TX4660 RAID controller 4 disks set up in two RAID1 arrays (handled by FastTrak) I am trying to install Windows so it would boot from RAID1 volume created with the FastTrak controller. The installation goes as in the manual, I insert the disk with the driver, select 'Browse' and specify the correct driver, it finds all the RAID arrays but notifies me that error 0x80300001 happened, Windows can't be installed on the mentioned RAID volumes, since they may not be bootable (even though the target RAID volume is the first in boot options list). If I proceed with the installation, Windows copies and unpacks itself, performs other standard actions after that. After the computer is restarted, it won't boot (Windows Boot Manager appears in the boot devices list; however, neither it nor the RAID volume itself does not boot). Is it a known problem? I can attach the boot disks to the motherboard and use its RAID capabilities instead, but I'd prefer FastTrak ones. Driver version is 1.3.0.4. Thanks.

• Laptop Asus P50IJ with Intel 4500M GMA output going to a Dell 1907FP external monitor will not allow

  Hello - I just purchased an Asus P50IJ-X2 laptop which has a Intel GMA 4500M video card running Windows7. At work I output this laptop to a Dell 1907FP LCD which has a maximum resolution of 1280x1024. Not matter what I do the Windows will not allow the laptop to set a resolution higher than 1024x768 to this LCD monitor. Ive even gone to the extent of downloading PowerStrip (I'd post a link but Im new and can only enter 1 url, if you google for powerstrip its the first option) to create a custom driver for my monitor thinking Windows was having a hard time seeing the available resolutions it would accept. However, powerstrip read the registery and properly sees the monitor and what its capable of so Im now at a complete loss as to why Windows7 will not allow me to set/use a 1280x1024 resolution for this external monitor (as my last laptop did running Vista). The Intel documentation (http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-integrated-graphics/) indicates that the GMA 4500M should be able to run up to a 2560x1600 max res. The Dell 1907FP specification states it can run up to a 1280x1024 res. But no matter what the computer will not allow me to set higher than a 1024x768. I'm completely baffled but I would really like to be able to output this laptop to a reasonable resolution, 1024x768 makes me feel like I'm using my mom's computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated! • backupexec 12.5 not following symlinks on linux agent

  Ok, we are at a loss here trying to backup a linux box to a backupexec server... we got a backupexec 12.5 server and a "backupexec for windows servers linux agent" (sigh) running on one of our linux boxes. When a backup runs, we get exceptions reported for our symbolic links. it says something like: BACKUP- \\<servername>\[ROOT] File \\<servername>\[ROOT]/<foldername>/<symlink> is in the backup selection list but was not found. Looking at the selection list, the symlink shows as a 1k file on BUE. Tools-Options-Backup has Backup files and directories by following symbolic links/junction points selected. These same checkboxes are selected on the Job Setup-Job Properties-Edit Template-Advanced Additionally, all the checkboxes are checkeced on Tools-Options-Linux, Unix, and Macintosh and on the Job Set-Job Properties-Edit Template-Linux, Unix, and Macintosh. These checkboxes read: "Preserve change time", "Follow local mount points", "Follow remote mount points", "Backup contents of soft-linked directories" and "Lock remote files", but apparently changing those options produce the same result. Any help on how to get BUE to make a proper backup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  Hello. I'm trying to setup vsftpd on Fedora 12. I need to require use of FTPS, and for now need to use a self-signed SSL certificate. I managed to get the vsftpd service running and to connect as my user. I can list the home directory, but as soon as I try to list another directory, download or upload a file, I get this error: No available certificate or key corresponds to the SSL cipher suites which are enabled. And the xfer log is empty. I've been Googling it for a while now, but still can't understand the problem. Here's how I installed vsftpd: su yum install vsftpd chkconfig vsftpd on service vsftpd start I tried to generate the certificate in two ways.   Hi all, Just recently I opened my Control Panel and saw that a blank icon came up before my list of icons. Has anyone else experienced this before? Would it be safe to delete it? Thanks in advance. EDIT: Oops, I should have mentioned this too, but when I try creating a shortcut on the desktop, I get a dialog box saying "Windows could not create the shortcut. Check if the disk is full." Clearly it isn't, since I still have 102 GB of free hard disk space... any ideas? EDIT2: Here is a screenie of my complete Control Panel: EDIT3: *So I did a manual search for .CPL in Windows Search and then looked at the list in TweakUI and got 3 unmatched .CPL files. They are [ncpa.CPL], [sapi.CPL], and [QuickTime.CPL]. I clearly know the QuickTime one, but not too sure about the rest. SCRATCH THAT, I FIGURED IT OUT... BUT IT'S NOT THE BLANK ICON.

• How do I enable the confluence-users group?

  I've got an issue with Atlassian Confluence. Normal users can't log in, but administrators can... Details below! I manage users using an Apple Open Directory (LDAP). I created two groups: "confluence-administrators" and "confluence-users". I've added team leaders and managers to both groups, and I've added some users to "confluence-users". Everyone in "confluence-administrators" can log in easily. People in "confluence-users" can't log in at all. When I look at the user list (in Confluence), and select a user to examine the list of groups he or she belongs to, I can see that the Confluence Administrators are indeed members of the "confluence-administrators" group, but not a single user is a member of the "confluence-users" group. Not event the Confluence Administrators, which are members of both groups! So I tried to have one of the "confluence-users" log in while watching the Confluence logs. Here's the result: 2012-07-05 14:50:19,698 ERROR [http-8090-11] [core.event.listener.AutoGroupAdderListener] handleEvent Could not auto add user to group: Group <confluence-users> is read-only and cannot be updated at com.atlassian.crowd.directory.DbCachingRemoteDirectory.addUserToGroup(DbCachingRemoteDirectory.java:461) ... So it says the group group is read-only... I'm not sure why it is a problem. Well confluence-administrators too is read-only and it doesn't complain. Some things I don't think are part of the problem: I've synchronized Confluence with LDAP many, many times. I have verified many times that I didn't make a typo while setting the groups on the LDAP server. LDAP synchronization goes well. No errors in the logs (only INFO level log messages). The user exists. Errors in the logs are different when a user doesn't exist. Any help is most welcome!

• AsteriskNow Migration / Shared Extension Space

  I am testing the possibility of migrating from an old Avaya phone system to AsteriskNow. The migration would cover several hundred phones--but spread out over several years. (Management wants to move buildings to the new phone system one by one as cables get cut or time permits.) Two other directive is that extensions must not change and they want a GUI that other admins (non-Linux geeks) can manage. They currently use 9XXX for all extensions. We linked the Avaya and Asterisk box via PRI card and they both are communicating. From the Avaya side, if we move (for example) extension 9001 to Asterisk, we forward the call over the PRI to the AsteriskNow box and the SIP phone rings. In AsteriskNow we have an outgoing rule '_9XXX' that routes all 4-digit extensions starting with 9 back to Avaya. Here's the trouble. Dialing 9001 (the extension moved over to AsteriskNow) causes the call to be routed out the PRI to the Avaya box, then the Avaya box routes the call back to Asterisk, and Asterisk routes it to the SIP phone. As we get more and more users switched over, it will use up more and more channels over the PRI card. Is there a way I can ask Asterisk to check it's local extensions first--then forward off to the Avaya system if it starts with '_9XXX'? (I know how I can do it when editing the raw config files, I'm just looking for a way to do it in the GUI so other admins can manage it if necessary.) As a last-ditch plan, I know I can specifically add '_9001' as an outgoing call rule and sent it directly to extension 9001--but I'd really hate to do that for several hundred phones

  I have been struggling with this one for months! Grateful for any advice. The setup is a windows 2003 server network, 4xservers on the domain. Two exchange 2007 servers (only one with mailboxes still on). Backup Exec (12.5) on a non-exchange server with agents on the others. Backup exec runs a full backup of exchange across the network well, at pretty reasonable speeds. However, when you try any kind of restore (individual emails, mailboxes or whole system restore - all to same location or to alternate server, RSG etc) the following message is received within about 10-15 secs of starting the job: Job ended: 24 December 2010 at 13:28:32 Completed status: Failed Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again. If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource. Final error category: Resource Errors For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33932 Things I have already tried: Changed account to main administrator account (with all permissions) checked versions of ese.dll on both servers - both the same Checked all VSS writers on both servers are stable / normal restoring to different locations Any advice anyone could give would be much appreciated. • Wildcard DNS, VirtualHosts on apache2, 404 for unused subdomains

  On an Apache2 server linked to by a DNS that includes a wildcard entry, e.g. *.example.com, subdomains that are not defined as ServerNames in any VirtualHosts point to the first defined VirtualHost, in my example this is 000-default. My Question:How would one get unused subdomains (subdomains not used in any virtualhosts) to return a 404 error to the requesting client? This must preferably show in server logs as a 404 as well. I have looked into the following possibilities: Redirecting any invalid subdomain to the home page or some other page.The problem with this method is, when someone links to your site as this.company.sucks.example.com, the client will see your home page or in my case 000-default if I do not redirect. Thanks, to Mike for pointing this out. (regex for "suck", etc definately not an option) Let the default VirtualHost point to a non-existent directory.Apache does not like this one bit, warning with every reload. Beyond the warning, everything seems fine. This seems like a hack. Does this seem like a problem (however small) to anyone? Point the default VirtualHost to a folder where the index.php is forbidden, thus creating a 403 status code.This is confusing and makes things like the following overly complicated: Say, for example, you use a subdomain per user (a big reason to use wildcard DNS, apparently), and users have the ability to view each others profiles at username.example.com. This solution is confusing to the user and completely not what I want to do. My ideal sollution will let the user know there is nothing to view at the url he entered. Preferably with a 404 and an error log entry for the address entered (not some other address). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• How to inspect remote SMTP server's TLS certificate?

  We have an Exchange 2007 server running on Windows Server 2008. Our client uses another vendor's mail server. Their security policies require us to use enforced TLS. This was working fine until recently. Now, when Exchange tries to deliver mail to the client's server, it logs the following: A secure connection to domain-secured domain 'ourclient.com' on connector 'Default external mail' could not be established because the validation of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificate for ourclient.com failed with status 'UntrustedRoot. Contact the administrator of ourclient.com to resolve the problem, or remove the domain from the domain-secured list. Removing ourclient.com from the TLSSendDomainSecureList causes messages to be delivered successfully using opportunistic TLS, but this is a temporary workaround at best. The client is an extremely large, security-sensitive international corporation. Our IT contact there claims to be unaware of any changes to their TLS certificate. I have asked him repeatedly to please identify the authority that generated the certificate so that I can troubleshoot the validation error, but so far he has been unable to provide an answer. For all I know, our client could have replaced their valid TLS certificate with one from an in-house certificate authority. Does anyone know a way to manually inspect a remote SMTP server's TLS certificate, as one can do for a remote HTTPS server's certificate in a web browser? It could be very helpful to determine who issued the certificate and compare that information against the list of trusted root certificates on our Exchange server.

• kvm works only when kvm-intel is unloaded

  I am new to kvm. I have this strange issue. But before explaining the issue, here is my set up. I try to install VM on my Host which is a Acer Laptop 5720 Has T7500 Intel processor. The cpu flags indicate that Virtualization is supported. I run Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) on it. It comes with kvm. Now coming to the issue - I dont get any errors while executing "sudo modprobe kvm-intel". So I presume my processor does indeed support hardware virtualization. I use virt-manager and create a VM on which I install ubuntu from an *.iso file. When I start the VM it says it is running. No signs of any trouble. I can see the domain list in "virsh list". But when I try to connect to the VM thru VNC, all I get to see is a blank screen (no cursor). There is no response to any key press. I changed the video mode etc. Tried all different combinations but none work. But strangely, if I shutdown the vm an virt-manager and then unload the module by doing "sudo modprove -r kvm-intel", everything works fine. ie., I can see the screen via VNC. I am able to install the OS and so on. So what does this mean ? IS hardware virtualization not supported ? How come there is no error anywhere ? dmesg | grep kvm doesnt report anything. Can someone throw light on what excatly is happening ?

  I have a Dell 15Z. GT525M Video card. Updated Driver via NVIDIA. Problem is I just purchased a Yamasaki Catleap Q270 monitor. It is a (2560x1440) monitor with only a Dual DVI-D out. 15Z only has HDMI and a Mini Display Port. I got a Active Dual DVI-D to Mini Display Port Active Adapter(Linked Below). http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=6904&seq=1&format=2 The Setup works when i plug it into my Macbook air 13.3. However when I plug it into my 15Z it doesn't work. Tried everything I can thank of. Window control P. FN and F1. It just doesn't work. I believe the issue lies in the Mini Display Port but i can't be sure. No matter what i do, the Mini Display Port doesn't get recognized. Spent 3 hours on the phone with the XPS Tech team. They simply said it was not compatible.... Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

• Error when trying to deploy Windows XP SP3 with WDS

  I have created a WDS server running Windows Server 2008 R2. I have built my custom images of Windows 7 using WAIK and MDT 2010 that are installed on the server. I used this guide to help me through the process. The Windows 7 images that I have created capture and deploy properly. I am attempting to follow the same steps from the guide I linked to capture and deploy a Windows XP SP3 image. I am able to sysprep and capture the reference machine with no errors. I am then able to import the custom .wim that I just captured in to MDT 2010 with no issues either. However when I try to deploy this image to a test virtual machine I get the following error: Deployment Error: I have made sure that the .iso that I am importing the source files from originally to create the sysprep and capture sequence is indeed a Windows XP SP3 iso. When I first select a PE boot environment before I deploy I select the x86 PE boot image that I created originally when making this for my Windows 7 deployments. Could this be the issue? If so how do I make a boot image specific for Windows XP SP3 deployments? I have Googled around for this error and some places point to the deployment image not being able to find setup.exe and other important system files for installing the operating system. If so, how do I add these to the image? Any ideas?
