  • node.js: encrypting data that needs to be decrypted?

    - by fancy
    We are using bcrypt for passwords and data that never needs to be decrypted. What should do to protect other user information that does. For this example lets say that we didn't want a users real name to be in plain text in case someone was to obtain the db. This is somewhat sensitive data but also needs to be called from time to time and displayed in plain text. Is there a simple way to do this?

  • jQuery.get() - Practical uses?

    - by RedWolves
    I am trying to understand why you would use jQuery.get() and jQuery.get(index). The docs say it is to convert the jQuery selection to the raw DOM object instead of working with the selection as a jQuery object and the methods available to it. So a quick example: $("div").get(0).innerHTML; is the same as: $("div").html(); Obviously this is a bad example but I am struggling to figure when you would use .get(). Can you help me understand when I would use this method in my code?

  • Issue creating side-by-side slideshows with jQuery

    - by JShweky
    I'm trying to create a site with 2 slideshows. I've tweaked and re-tweaked the JS and Jquery numerous times. Sometimes one slideshow works perfectly and the other cycles between one picture, other times both work but are out of sync, or the fadeIn doesn't seem to be applied to the second slideshow, or in some variations one slideshow stays frozen on the initial image and just remains static. Anyway, I created a JS Fiddle (link at bottom) and apparently my code is at least free of typos. JS is below, the rest is on the JS Fiddle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. $(document).ready(function () { $(".slider #1").fadeIn(1000); $(".slider #1").delay(2000).fadeOut(1000); var sc = $(".slider img").size(); var count = 2; setInterval(function () { $(".slider #" + count).fadeIn(1000); $(".slider #" + count).delay(2000).fadeOut(1000); if (count === sc) { count = 1; } else { count++; } }, 3500); $(".sliderTwo #7").fadeIn(1000); $(".sliderTwo #7").delay(2000).fadeOut(1000); var sc2 = 12; var count2 = 7; setInterval(function () { $(".sliderTwo #" + count2).fadeIn(1000); $(".sliderTwo #" + count2).delay(2000).fadeOut(1000); if (count2 === sc2) { count2 = 7; } else { count2++; } }, 3500); }); http://jsfiddle.net/gg4PL/

    - by kylex

  • jQuery $().find problem

    - by Titanous
    I'm trying to get the contents of a XML document element, but the element has a colon in it's name. This line works for every element but the ones with a colon in the name: $(this).find("geo:lat").text(); I assume that the colon needs escaping. How do I fix this?

  • innerText/textContent vs. retrieving each text node

    - by J-P
    I've heard that using el.innerText||el.textContent can yield unreliable results, and that's why I've always insisted on using the following function in the past: function getText(node) { if (node.nodeType === 3) { return node.data; } var txt = ''; if (node = node.firstChild) do { txt += getText(node); } while (node = node.nextSibling); return txt; } This function goes through all nodes within an element and gathers the text of all text nodes, and text within descendants: E.g. <div id="x">foo <em>foo...</em> foo</div> Result: getText(document.getElementById('x')); // => "foo foo... foo" I'm quite sure there are issues with using innerText and textContent, but I've not been able to find a definitive list anywhere and I am starting to wonder if it's just hearsay. Can anyone offer any information about the possibly lacking reliability of textContent/innerText? EDIT: Found this great answer by Kangax -- http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1359469/innertext-works-in-ie-but-not-in-firefox/1359822#1359822

  • Click() works in IE but not Firefox

    - by Tom Andrews
    I have code which is trivial but only works in IE not Firefox. $(document).ready(function(){ $('li#first').click(); }); I have also tried: document.getElementById('first').click(); But that doesn't work either. Is this an IE bug/feature or is click() not supported in the other browsers? Thanks in advance.

  • "Close" button on the page.

    - by TRAVA
    Is there any possibility to make a link or a button to close the current page? Like I have this: <div id="arrows"> <a href="It works"><div id="arrow_left"></div></a> <a href="It works too"><div id="arrow_right"></div></a> <a href="??? =("><div id="arrow_close"></div></a> </div> And this if it's necessary this: #arrow_close{ height: 7px;display: inline;float: left;width: 7px; background: url(../i/close-20.png) no-repeat; } And I want to close the page with a button "close".

  • is the jQuery function "change()" working in IE ?

    - by Patrick
    is the jQuery function "change()" working in IE ? I usually use it to detect changes in forms (select/unselect check boxes), and submit them automatically without having to click on submit button (which is hided). i.e. $("#views-exposed-form-Portfolio-page-1").change(function(){ $("#views-exposed-form-Portfolio-page-1").submit(); }); But in Ie it doesn't work. It seems I have to use "click" instead. thanks

  • How to find the submit button in a specific form in jQuery

    - by leifg
    I try to get jQuery object of a submit button in a specific form (there are several forms on the same page). I managed to get the form element itself. It looks something like this: var curForm = curElement.parents("form"); The current Element has the context HTMLInputElement. The several techniques I tried to get the according submit element of the form: var curSubmit = curForm.find("input[type='submit']"); var curSubmit = $(curForm).find("input[type='submit']"); var curSubmit = curForm.find(":submit"); var curSubmit = $(curForm).find(":submit"); var curSubmit = $(curSubmit, "input[type='submit']"); the result is always the same (and very strange). The result that I get is the same element as "curElement". So how can I get the right submit button?

  • jquery integrate form parameter in one object

    - by jesse
    There are many forms in my page. I want to merge them in one object and submit them in one object. But I find serializeArray() or serialize() do not match my request, the serializeArray function will generate a array object and serialize is used by get model, it is not an object. is there a jquery or local function can merge them in one object. I have one solution but it is not perfect, loop the array object generated by serializeArray, use $.extend to merge them in one object. is there a better method? kindly help, thanks.

  • Reiterate over a jQuery plugin's this.each()

    - by eth0
    Hi, I'm making a plugin and one of the options is a standard callback. I want the user to be able to re-run the jQuery plugin's this.each() which basically re-runs the plugin, for example; callback: function(){ // some code to rerun the plugin here after 10 seconds } I know I can do this like so: $(this).plugin_name(); but it won't contain any of the options I've specified. Any help would be appreciated.

  • HTML5 drag & drop: The dragged element content is missing in Webkit browsers.

    - by Cibernox
    I'm trying to implement something similar to a cart where you can drop items from a list. This items (<li> elements) has some elements inside (divs, span, and that stuff). The drag and drop itself works great. But the dragged element's image doesn't show its content in Webkit browsers. My list element has a border an a background color. In Firefox, the image is the whole item. In Webkit browsers, only the dragged element without content. I see the background and border, but without text inside. I tried to make a copy of the element and force it to be the image, but doesn't work. var dt = ev.originalEvent.dataTransfer; dt.setDragImage( $(ev.target).clone()[0], 0, 0); I have a simplified example that exhibit the same behavior: http://jsfiddle.net/ksnJf/1/
