  • Is there any way to "peek" at a file while it's uploading through HTTP onto a Windows box?

    - by iisystems
    I need to add a file upload function to an ASP.NET website and would like to be able to read a small portion of the file on the server while it's still uploading. A peek or preview type function so I can determine contents and give some feedback to the user while it is still uploading (we're talking about large files here). Is there any way to do this? I'm thinking worst case of writing a custom control which uploads only a fixed number of bytes of the file once chosen and then under the covers starts another upload of the full file. Not totally sure even this is possible, but I'm looking for a more elegant solution anyway... Thanks!

  • HTML element to use as a Javascript message display

    - by javanix
    I have a message display field on my website that I'd like to change the value of via JS. I've been using just a textfield, disabling it, and modifying the value via a JS function (after using a little CSS to make it not look like a text field): <input type="text" id="message" style="background: white; color: black" size="50" disabled> There has to be a better way (for instance, formatting is tricky whenever the message runs over the specified size), but I can't think of it off the top of my head. Can anyone point me in a better direction? Thanks! FYI: I am doing a timer function which I'd like to look something like "HH:MM:SS | 'my message here'"

  • java System.nanoTime is really slow. Is it possible to implement a high performance java profiler?

    - by willpowerforever
    I did a test and found the overhead of a function call to System.nanoTime() is at least 500 ns on my machine. Seemed that it is very hard to have a high performance java profiler. For enterprise software, suppose a function takes about 350 seconds and has 12,500,000,000 times of method calls. Therefore, the number of calls to System.nanoTime() is: 12,500,000,000 * 2 = 25,000,000,000 (one for start timestamp, one for end timestamp) And the overhead of System.nanoTime in total is: 500 ns * 25,000,000,000 = 500 * 25000 s = 12500000s. Note: all data from real case. Any better way to acquire the timestamp?

  • Animating inline elements with JQuery

    - by rnielsen
    I am trying to show and hide an inline element (eg a span) using jquery. If I just use toggle(), it works as expected but if I use toggle("slow") to give it an animation, it turns the span into a block element and therefore inserts breaks. Is animation possible with inline elements? I would prefer a smooth sliding if possible, rather than a fade in. Thanks. <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ $('.toggle').click(function() { $('.hide').toggle("slow") }); }); </script> <p>Hello <span class="hide">there</span> jquery</p> <button class="toggle">Toggle</button>

  • Getting javascript mouse position relative to website prefferably without jQuery

    - by Constructor
    I've found this snippet on Ajaxian, but I can't seem to use the cursor.y (or cursor.x) as a variable and when the function is called as such it does not seem to work. Is there a syntax problem or something else? function getPosition(e) { e = e || window.event; var cursor = {x:0, y:0}; if (e.pageX || e.pageY) { cursor.x = e.pageX; cursor.y = e.pageY; } else { cursor.x = e.clientX + (document.documentElement.scrollLeft || document.body.scrollLeft) - document.documentElement.clientLeft; cursor.y = e.clientY + (document.documentElement.scrollTop || document.body.scrollTop) - document.documentElement.clientTop; } return cursor; } I'd preffer not to use jQuery UI if possible, since I've always thaught of jQuery and librarys as a bit of an overkill for most JS programing.

So I have this form: <div data-role="page" data-theme="a" id="login_page"> <div data-role="header" data-position="fixed"> <h1>****</h1> </div> <div data-role="content"> <form id="login_form" method="POST" data-ajax="false"> <label for="basic">Username:</label> <input type="text" name="name" id="username" value=""/> <label for="basic">Password:</label> <input type="password" name="password" id="password" value=""/> <input type="submit" value="Login" id="login" name="login"/> </form> </div> <div data-role="footer" data-position="fixed"> <div data-role="navbar"></div> </div> </div> And I need to submit Username and Password to php script, where php replies and send "success" or "failed". Here is php: <?php session_start(); $username = $_POST["name"]; $password = $_POST["password"]; include('mysql_connection.php'); mysql_select_db("jzperson_imesUsers", $con); $res1 = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM temp_login WHERE username='$username' AND password='$password'"); $count=mysql_num_rows($res1); if($count==1){ echo "success"; }else{ echo "failed"; } ?> And to do all this I want to use this script: $(document).ready(function() { $("form").submit(function(){ $.mobile.showPageLoadingMsg(); $.ajax({ url: "http://imes.jzpersonal.com/login_control.php", type: "POST", dataType: "jsonp", jsonp: "jsoncallback", data: $("form#login_form").serialize(), success: function( response ){ $.mobile.changePage( "http://imes.jzpersonal.com/user_panel.html"); } }); return false; }); }); But I can't make it work, I know I must have mistakes in there, I just can't find them, or better way to do it. Thank you in advance for any help.

  • MATLAB submatrix over variable dimensions

    - by rlbond
    I have a variable dimension matrix, X. I want a function that will get the first half of X in one dimension. I.E., I want something like this: function x = variableSubmatrix(x, d) if d == 1 switch ndims(x) case 1 x = x(1:end/2); case 2 x = x(1:end/2, :); case 3 x = x(1:end/2, :, :); (...) end elseif d == 2 switch ndims(x) case 2 x = x(:, 1:end/2); case 3 x = x(:, 1:end/2, :); (...) end elseif (...) end end I'm not quite sure how to do this. I need it to be fast, as this will be used many times in computation.

  • Why does it NOT give a segmentation violation?

    - by user198729
    The code below is said to give a segmentation violation: #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> void function(char *str) { char buffer[16]; strcpy(buffer,str); } int main() { char large_string[256]; int i; for( i = 0; i < 255; i++) large_string[i] = 'A'; function(large_string); return 1; } It's compiled and run like this: gcc -Wall -Wextra hw.cpp && a.exe But there is nothing output. NOTE The above code indeed overwrites the ret address and so on if you really understand what's going underneath.

  • Is str.replace(..).replace(..) ad nauseam a standard idiom in Python?

    - by meeselet
    For instance, say I wanted a function to escape a string for use in HTML (as in Django's escape filter): def escape(string): """ Returns the given string with ampersands, quotes and angle brackets encoded. """ return string.replace('&', '&amp;').replace('<', '&lt;').replace('>', '&gt;').replace("'", '&#39;').replace('"', '&quot;') This works, but it gets ugly quickly and appears to have poor algorithmic performance (in this example, the string is repeatedly traversed 5 times). What would be better is something like this: def escape(string): """ Returns the given string with ampersands, quotes and angle brackets encoded. """ # Note that ampersands must be escaped first; the rest can be escaped in # any order. return replace_multi(string.replace('&', '&amp;'), {'<': '&lt;', '>': '&gt;', "'": '&#39;', '"': '&quot;'}) Does such a function exist, or is the standard Python idiom to use what I wrote before?

  • Randomized experiments in R

    - by gd047
    Here is a simple randomized experiment. In the following code I calculate the p-value under the null hypothesis that two different fertilizers applied to tomato plants have no effect in plants yields. The first random sample (x) comes from plants where a standard fertilizer has been used, while an "improved" one has been used in the plants where the second sample (y) comes from. x <- c(11.4,25.3,29.9,16.5,21.1) y <- c(23.7,26.6,28.5,14.2,17.9,24.3) total <- c(x,y) first <- combn(total,length(x)) second <- apply(first,2,function(x) total[!total %in% x]) dif.treat <- apply(second,2,mean) - apply(first,2,mean) # the first element of dif.treat is the one that I'm interested in (p.value <- length(dif.treat[dif.treat >= dif.treat[1]]) / length(dif.treat)) Do you know of any R function that performs tests like this one?

  • How do I get the sums of the digits of a large number in Haskell?

    - by Tim
    I'm a C++ Programmer trying to teach myself Haskell and it's proving to be challenging grasping the basics of using functions as a type of loop. I have a large number, 50!, and I need to add the sum of its digits. It's a relatively easy loop in C++ but I want to learn how to do it in Haskell. I've read some introductory guides and am able to get 50! with sum50fac.hs:: fac 0 = 1 fac n = n * fac n - 1 x = fac 50 main = print x Unfortunately at this point I'm not entirely sure how to approach the problem. Is it possible to write a function that adds (mod) x 10 to a value and then calls the same function again on x / 10 until x / 10 is less than 10? If that's not possible how should I approach this problem? Thanks!

  • Jquery .each(): find elements containing input

But at the same time i want to check if the TDs of the THs in the tbody is containing any input elements. Here is what i have so far: jQuery('#' + _target).each(function () { var $table = jQuery(this); var i = 0; jQuery('th', $table).each(function (column) { if (jQuery(this).find("input")) { dataTypes[i] = { "sSortDataType": "input" } } else { dataTypes[i] = { "sSortDataType": "html" } } i++; }); }); I hope this is enough information for you to help me out?

  • AutoHotkey ControlSend problem on one machine

    - by Illotus
    I have this AutoHotkey script that has a weird problem. It is used in 3 workstations, but in one the ControlSend doesn't seem to work as the hotkey doesn't work in program A. All three machines have Windows XP and are Pentium 4 level machines with mostly same software, the script is in exe form. I've tried a lot of different ways to send the hotkey to Program A, but nothing seems to work. The idea of the script is simply to catch a hotkey and click in another window in addition to its normal function. The normal function just doesn't work. Any ideas what could be the root of the problem and where I should look for it? #IfWinActive, Program A ^H:: IfWinActive, Program A { ControlFocus, MDIClient1, Program A, , , ControlSend, , ^H, Program A, , , ControlClick, X46 Y135, Program B, , LEFT , 1 return }

  • Placement of a call to the parent method

    - by Alejandro
    I have a class that has a method. That class has a child class that overrides that method. The child's method has to call the parent's method. In all OO that I've seen or written calls to the parent's version of the same method were on the first line of the method. On a project that I am working on circumstances call for placing that method call at the end of a method. Should I be worried? Is that a code smell? Is this code inherently bad? class Parent { function work() { // stuff } } class Child { function work() { // do thing 1 // do thing 2 parent::work(); // is this a bad practice? // should I call the parent's work() method before // I do anything in this method? } }

  • Hashing a python method to regenerate output when method is modified

    - by Seth Johnson
    I have a python method that has a deterministic result. It takes a long time to run and generates a large output: def time_consuming_method(): # lots_of_computing_time to come up with the_result return the_result I modify time_consuming_method from time to time, but I would like to avoid having it run again while it's unchanged. [Time_consuming_method only depends on functions that are immutable for the purposes considered here; i.e. it might have functions from Python libraries but not from other pieces of my code that I'd change.] The solution that suggests itself to me is to cache the output and also cache some "hash" of the function. If the hash changes, the function will have been modified, and we have to re-generate the output. Is this possible or a ridiculous idea? If this isn't a terrible idea, is the best implementation to write f = """ def ridiculous_method(): a = # # lots_of_computing_time return a """ , use the hashlib module to compute a hash for f, and use compile or eval to run it as code?

  • Insert A Line At The Beginning Of A File

    - by thebourneid
    I'm trying to insert/add a line 'COMMENT DUMMY' at the beginnig of a file as a first row if /PATTERN/ not found. I know how to do this with OPEN CLOSE function. Probably after reading the file it should look something like this: open F, ">", $fn or die "could not open file: $!"; ; print F "COMMENT DUMMY\n", @array; close F; But I have a need to implement this with the use of the Tie::File function and don't know how. use strict; use warnings; use Tie::File; my $fn = 'test.txt'; tie my @lines, 'Tie::File', $fn or die "could not tie file: $!"; untie @lines;

  • jquery prevent focus on click

    I have this sample code: $myTrigger .click(function(e){ alert('click'); }) .focus(function(e){ alert('focus'); $(this).click() }) The intent is that I want something to happen when you click on $myTrigger. If, on the other hand, you tab onto it via the keyboard (ie, focus) I want the exact same thing to happen, so I ask it to click. The catch is if I click on it, it also focuses. So both alerts are going off. Is there a way to prevent the focus event from going off when clicking?
