  • Hello-World-grade landscape Android app fails to start (complete code included)

    - by WingedCat
    I'm trying to develop a simple Android app, fixed in landscape mode. I am using Eclipse 1.3, compiling for Android SDK version 7 (OS version 2.1). When I try to run it in the emulator, it crashes on boot. (It gets as far as the unlock slider, but shortly after that when trying to launch the application itself, I get "The application Failtest (process com.wcs.failtest) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.".) Here is main.xml (with the tags escaped so this displays properly): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="480px" android:layout_height="320px" > <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="96px" android:layout_height="320px" android:id="@+id/action_menu" > <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="96px" android:layout_height="48px" > <Button android:layout_width="48px" android:layout_height="48px" android:background="#f00" android:id="@+id/action_button_11" /> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> Here is AndroidManifest.xml (again with the tags escaped so this displays properly): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.wcs.failtest" android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0"> <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name" android:theme="@android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen"> <activity android:name=".FailtestActivity" android:screenOrientation="landscape" android:label="@string/app_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> </application> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="7" /> </manifest> And here is FailtestActivity.java: package com.wcs.failtest; import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.Button; import android.view.View.OnClickListener; import android.view.View; public class FailtestActivity extends Activity { private OnClickListener action11Listener = new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { } }; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); Button button; button = (Button)findViewById(R.id.action_button_11); button.setOnClickListener(action11Listener); setContentView(R.layout.main); } } I suspect it is something simple I'm overlooking. What is it?

    I currently develop an application which contains a custom ListView. I developed a custom array adapter. I think my app crashes here: ListView DirectoryView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.fileListView); So i think the error is in the activity_main.xml: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <ListView android:id="@+id/fileListView" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" > </ListView> Here is my LogCat: 09-09 11:19:21.254: E/Trace(1152): error opening trace file: No such file or directory (2) 09-09 11:19:21.484: D/AndroidRuntime(1152): Shutting down VM 09-09 11:19:21.484: W/dalvikvm(1152): threadid=1: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x40a13300) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{com.teamdroid.explorer/com.teamdroid.explorer.MainActivity}: java.lang.NullPointerException 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2059) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2084) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$600(ActivityThread.java:130) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:1195) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:137) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4745) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:511) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:786) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:553) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.Activity.findViewById(Activity.java:1825) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at com.teamdroid.explorer.listDirectory.getDirectory(listDirectory.java:20) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at com.teamdroid.explorer.MainActivity.onCreate(MainActivity.java:33) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.Activity.performCreate(Activity.java:5008) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.Instrumentation.callActivityOnCreate(Instrumentation.java:1079) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2023) 09-09 11:19:21.504: E/AndroidRuntime(1152): ... 11 more Please can you help me.   • Subroutine & GoTo design

    - by sub
    I have a strange question concerning subroutines: As I'm creating a minimal language and I don't want to add high-level loops like while or for I was planning on just adding gotos to keep it Turing-Complete. Now I thought, eww - gotos - I wouldn't want to program in that language if I had to use gotos so often. So I thought about adding subroutines instead. I see the difference as the following: gotos Go to (captain obvious) a previously defined point and continue executing the program from there. Leads to hardly understandable and buggy code, I think that's a fact. subroutines Similiar: You define their starting point somewhere, as you call them the program jumps there - but the subroutine can go back to the point it was called from with return. Okay. Why didn't I just add the more function-like, nice looking subroutines? Because: In order to make return work if I call subroutines from within subroutines from within other subroutines, I'd have to use a stack containing the point where the currently running subroutine came from at top. That would then mean that I would, if I create loops using the subroutines, end up with an extremely memory-eating, overflowing stack with return locations. Not good. Don't think of my subroutines as functions. They are just gotos that return to the point they were called from, they don't actually give back values like the return x; statement in nearly all today's languages. Now to my actual questions: How can I solve the above problem with the stack overflow on loops with subroutines? Do I have to add a separate goto language construct without the return option? Assembler doesn't have loops but as I have seen myJumpPoint:, jnz, jz, retn. That means to me that there must also be a stack containing all the return locations. Am I right with that? What about long running loops then? Don't they overflow the stack/eat memory then? Am I getting the retn symbol in assembler totally wrong? If yes, please explain it to me.

  • Android: Autostart app and load preferences

    - by BBoom
    Hi, I have a problem with initializing my app properly after the autostart. I've managed to get an autostart to work, after a reboot the app is shown as started but the timer's are not. My guess is that the "onCreate" function of MyApp is not called when I call the context.startService(). The timers are set in the doActivity() function of MyApp. I would greatly appreciate any tips on what I could be doing wrong or links to good tutorials. :) The manifest: <activity android:name=".MyApp" android:label="@string/app_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> <receiver android:name="MyApp_Receiver"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" /> </intent-filter> </receiver>[/syntax] MyApp_Receiver is a BoradcastReciever with the following two functions public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { // Do Autostart if intent is "BOOT_COMPLETED" if ((intent.getAction() != null) && (intent.getAction().equals("android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED"))) { // Start the service context.startService(new Intent(context, MyApp.class)); } // Else do activity else MAIN_ACTIVITY.doActivity(); } public static void setMainActivity(MyApp activity) { MAIN_ACTIVITY = activity; } MyApp extends PreferenceActivity and has an onCreate() and a doActivity(), the doActivity() reads out the preferences and sets a timer depending on them. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); // Show preferences addPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.preferences);; // Register Preference Click Listeners getPreferenceScreen().getSharedPreferences().registerOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(this); // Prepare for one-shot alarms if (mIntent == null) { mIntent = new Intent(MyApp.this, MyApp_Receiver.class); mSender = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(MyApp.this, 0, mIntent, 0); MyApp_Receiver.setMainActivity(this); } // Refresh and set all timers on start doActivity(); }

  • Android Camera takePicture function does not call Callback function

    - by Tomáš 'Guns Blazing' Frcek
    I am working on a custom Camera activity for my application. I was following the instruction from the Android Developers site here: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/camera.html Everything seems to works fine, except the Callback function is not called and the picture is not saved. Here is my code: public class CameraActivity extends Activity { private Camera mCamera; private CameraPreview mPreview; private static final String TAG = "CameraActivity"; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.camera); // Create an instance of Camera mCamera = getCameraInstance(); // Create our Preview view and set it as the content of our activity. mPreview = new CameraPreview(this, mCamera); FrameLayout preview = (FrameLayout) findViewById(R.id.camera_preview); preview.addView(mPreview); Button captureButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.button_capture); captureButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { Log.v(TAG, "will now take picture"); mCamera.takePicture(null, null, mPicture); Log.v(TAG, "will now release camera"); mCamera.release(); Log.v(TAG, "will now call finish()"); finish(); } }); } private PictureCallback mPicture = new PictureCallback() { @Override public void onPictureTaken(byte[] data, Camera camera) { Log.v(TAG, "Getting output media file"); File pictureFile = getOutputMediaFile(); if (pictureFile == null) { Log.v(TAG, "Error creating output file"); return; } try { FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(pictureFile); fos.write(data); fos.close(); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { Log.v(TAG, e.getMessage()); } catch (IOException e) { Log.v(TAG, e.getMessage()); } } }; private static File getOutputMediaFile() { String state = Environment.getExternalStorageState(); if (!state.equals(Environment.MEDIA_MOUNTED)) { return null; } else { File folder_gui = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + File.separator + "GUI"); if (!folder_gui.exists()) { Log.v(TAG, "Creating folder: " + folder_gui.getAbsolutePath()); folder_gui.mkdirs(); } File outFile = new File(folder_gui, "temp.jpg"); Log.v(TAG, "Returnng file: " + outFile.getAbsolutePath()); return outFile; } } After clicking the Button, I get logs: "will now take picture", "will now release camera" and "will now call finish". The activity finishes succesfully, but the Callback function was not called during the mCamera.takePicture(null, null, mPicture); function (There were no logs from the mPicture callback or getMediaOutputFile functions) and there is no file in the location that was specified. Any ideas? :) Much thanks!

  • Updating table from async task android

    - by CantChooseUsernames
    I'm following this tutorial: http://huuah.com/android-progress-bar-and-thread-updating/ to learn how to make progress bars. I'm trying to show the progress bar on top of my activity and have it update the activity's table view in the background. So I created an async task for the dialog that takes a callback: package com.lib.bookworm; import android.app.ProgressDialog; import android.content.Context; import android.os.AsyncTask; public class UIThreadProgress extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void> { private UIThreadCallback callback = null; private ProgressDialog dialog = null; private int maxValue = 100, incAmount = 1; private Context context = null; public UIThreadProgress(Context context, UIThreadCallback callback) { this.context = context; this.callback = callback; } @Override protected Void doInBackground(Void... args) { while(this.callback.condition()) { this.callback.run(); this.publishProgress(); } return null; } @Override protected void onProgressUpdate(Void... values) { super.onProgressUpdate(values); dialog.incrementProgressBy(incAmount); }; @Override protected void onPreExecute() { super.onPreExecute(); dialog = new ProgressDialog(context); dialog.setCancelable(true); dialog.setMessage("Loading..."); dialog.setProgress(0); dialog.setProgressStyle(ProgressDialog.STYLE_HORIZONTAL); dialog.setMax(maxValue); dialog.show(); } @Override protected void onPostExecute(Void result) { super.onPostExecute(result); if (this.dialog.isShowing()) { this.dialog.dismiss(); } this.callback.onThreadFinish(); } } And in my activity, I do: final String page = htmlPage.substring(start, end).trim(); //Create new instance of the AsyncTask.. new UIThreadProgress(this, new UIThreadCallback() { @Override public void run() { row_id = makeTableRow(row_id, layout, params, matcher); //ADD a row to the table layout. } @Override public void onThreadFinish() { System.out.println("FINISHED!!"); } @Override public boolean condition() { return matcher.find(); } }).execute(); So the above creates an async task to run to update a table layout activity while showing the progress bar that displays how much work has been done.. However, I get an error saying that only the thread that started the activity can update its views. I tried doing: MainActivity.this.runOnUiThread(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { row_id = makeTableRow(row_id, layout, params, matcher); //ADD a row to the table layout. } } But this gives me synchronization errors.. Any ideas how I can display progress and at the same time update my table in the background? Currently my UI looks like:

  • If I drop my clustered PK and add a new one, what order will my rows be in?

    - by stack
    In SQL Server, I'm looking at TableA, which currently has a uniqueidentifier clustered primary key. The GUID has no meaning in any context. (I'll give you a second to clean up your keyboard and monitor and set down the soda.) I'd like to drop that primary key and add a new unique integer primary key to the table. My question is this: when I drop the index, modify the column from uniqueidentifier to int, and add the new clustered unique primary key to the modified column, will the new PK values be in the order of insertion into the table, or will they be in some other order? Is this the right way to go here? Will this work? (I'm kind of a noobkin with regard to table creation/modification.)

  • How is the MAC address on a computer determined?

    - by Zero Stack
    While imaging some computers today, I started to wonder... what if two LAN MAC addresses on two different computers matched?... That would cause some problems. I later came to understand that the MAC address' 48-bit address space contains potentially 248 or 281,474,976,710,656 possible MAC addresses. [ in other-words, a lot of networking devices ] How are these MAC addresses determined? Will we ever run out of them? ( I know the second question is speculation, but there are a lot of devices that require a mac addresses...) Do MAC addresses get recycled?

  • Dynamics CRM error "A currency is required if a value exists in a money field" after converting Acti

    - by Evgeny
    We have a Dynamics CRM 4.0 instance with some custom attributes of type "money" on the Case entity and on all Activity entities (Email, Phone Call, etc.) When I use the built-in "Convert Activity to Case" functionality I find that the resulting Case does not have a Currency set, even if the Activity it was created from does have it. Whenever the case is opened the user then gets this JavaScript error: A currency is required if a value exists in a money field. Select a currency and try again. This is extremely annoying! How do I fix it? Is there any way I can set the currency? It needs to be done synchronously, because the Case is opened immediately when it's created from an Activity. So even if I started a workflow to set the currency the user would still get that error at least once. Alterntatively, can I just suppress the warning somehow? I don't really care about setting the Currency, I just want the error gone. Thanks in advance for any help!

  • How to change theme for AlertDialog.

    - by Min Soo Kim
    Hello everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me out. I am trying to create a custom AlertDialog. In order to do this, I added the following line of code in styles.xml @drawable/color_panel_background color_panel_background.9.png is located in drawable folder. This is also available in Android SDK res folder. The following is the main activity. package com.customdialog; import android.app.Activity; import android.app.AlertDialog; import android.app.Dialog; import android.content.DialogInterface; import android.os.Bundle; public class CustomDialog extends Activity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); this.setTheme(R.style.CustomAlertDialog); AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); builder.setMessage("HELLO!"); builder .setCancelable(false) .setPositiveButton("Yes", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int id) { //MyActivity.this.finish(); } }) .setNegativeButton("No", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int id) { //dialog.cancel(); } }); AlertDialog alertdialog = builder.create(); alertdialog.show(); } } In order to apply the theme to an AlertDialog, I had to set the theme to the current context. However, I just can't seem to get the app to show customized AlertDialog. Can anyone help me out with this, and thank you very much in advance!

  • silverlight master-detail with two listboxes in pure xaml with ria services throwing exception

    - by Sam
    Hi, I was trying to achieve master-detail with 2 ListBox, 2 DomainDataSource and a IValueConverter, when entering the page it throws the random error it does when your xaml is invalid: "AG_E_PARSER_BAD_PROPERTY_VALUE [Line: 24 Position: 61]" Which is in fact the start position of where I am binding the listbox selected item with converter to the parameter's value of my DomainDataSource. I would love to achieve this by pure xaml, I did it by code behind and that works but I don't like it :p When the parameter is a hard-coded integer 1, it works, so I assume it's the value binding My code is below here, thanks in advance for at least looking :) (taken into accound all the xmlns's & usings are correct) Xaml: <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <Grid.Resources> <helpers:ListItemtoIdListValueConverter x:Key="mListConverter" /> </Grid.Resources> <riacontrols:DomainDataSource x:Name="GetLists" DomainContext="{StaticResource DbContext}" LoadSize="20" QueryName="GetLists" AutoLoad="True" /> <riacontrols:DomainDataSource x:Name="GetListItems" DomainContext="{StaticResource DbContext}" LoadSize="20" QueryName="GetListItemsById" AutoLoad="True"> <riacontrols:DomainDataSource.QueryParameters> <riadata:Parameter ParameterName="id" Value="{Binding ElementName=ListBoxLists, Path=SelectedItem, Converter={StaticResource mListConverter}}" /> </riacontrols:DomainDataSource.QueryParameters> </riacontrols:DomainDataSource> <activity:Activity IsActive="{Binding IsBusy, ElementName=ListBoxListItems}"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <ListBox x:Name="ListBoxLists" ItemsSource="{Binding Data, ElementName=GetLists, Mode=OneWay}" Width="150" Margin="0,0,10,10" /> <ListBox x:Name="ListBoxListItems" ItemsSource="{Binding Data, ElementName=GetListItems, Mode=OneWay}" Width="150" Margin="0,0,10,10" /> </StackPanel> </activity:Activity> </Grid> IValueConverter: public class ListItemtoIdListValueConverter: IValueConverter { #region IValueConverter Members public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { list mList = (list)value; if (mList != null) return mList.id; else return null; } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } #endregion }

  • Thrift,.NET,Cassandra - Is this is right combination?

    - by Vadi
    I've been evaluating technology stack for developing a social network based application. Below are the stack I think could well suitable for this application type of application: GUI -- ASP.NET MVC, Flash (Flex) Business Services -- Thrift based services One of the advantage of using Thrift is to solve scaling problems that will come in future when the user base increases rapidly. All the business logic can be exposed as a services using REST,JSON etc., This also allows us to go with C++ or Erlang based services when situation demands. Database -- mySQL, CasSandara mySQL can be used for storing the data which needs to be persisted. Cassandara will be used for storing global identifiers to the persisted data. Since Cassandara is also very good at scaling by introducing more nodes this will leverage Thrift based services as well. And also there is native support between Cassandara and Thrift Cache Server -- Memcached Any requests from Business Services will only talk to Memcached if any non-dirty data is required, otherwise there will be some background jobs that will invalidate the cache from database. The question is: Is the Thrift which is open-sourced one is production-ready? Is it the right stack for services layer to choose when the application (GUI) is primarily gets developed in ASP.NET and DB is mysql? Is there any other caveats that anyone here experienced? One of the main objective behind this stack is to easily scale up with more nodes and also this helps us to use Linux boxes, it will reduce our cost significantly Thoughts please ..

  • How do I handle the browser's "share page" intent in android?

    - by gfxmonk
    I read here ( http://androidlittle.blogspot.com/2009/08/intent-filter-for-share-link.html ) what intent-filter is required to handle the "share link" intent that the android web browser sends. I have placed this inside an block in my AndroidManifest.xml like so: <activity android:name=".ShareLink"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.SEND" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" /> <data android:mimeType="text/plain" /> </intent-filter> <meta-data/> </activity> I cannot for the life of me get this to be triggered though. When I share a link in the android browser, the emulator log shows it's creating a chooser intent, but doesn't give the details of the intent the chooser is acting on. No chooser window pops up, and the intent gets handled by the SMS application. I have also tried kicking off the intent manually: adb shell am start -D -a android.intent.action.SEND -c android.intent.category.DEFAULT -t text/plain -d http://google.com/ but the response I get is: Starting: Intent { act=android.intent.action.SEND cat=[android.intent.category.DEFAULT] dat=http://google.com/ typ=text/plain } Error: Activity not started, unable to resolve Intent { act=android.intent.action.SEND cat=[android.intent.category.DEFAULT] dat=http://google.com/ typ=text/plain flg=0x10000000 } Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? My main (launcher) activity works fine, so I assume there is no issue with installation on the emulator.

  • Invalid security validation exception inside a SharePoint workflow

    - by Dan Revell
    I'm having a strange security problem with a SharePoint workflow. Particular calls seem to result in the following exception: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: The security validation for this page is invalid. I've come across this error before and the simple fix is web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true; ... web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = false; However I've never once encountered this problem inside a workflow before since a workflow runs as system. I first got this error in a code activity where I set the value of a column on the list item. Wrapping the item.Update in AllowUnsafeUpdates fixed it. After the code activity I have a CreateTask activity. This also causes the same error but only after running the code inside the activity's MethodInvoking. In both cases there's a SPListItem.UpdateItem involved within the stack trace. This call is failing a security check. I don't know anything about how this check works so I don't know where to look next. This is a strange one, because this SharePoint dev machine has been working fine for some time. No other projects or workflows exhibit this behaviour so that rules out an installation problem. There's just something about this particular workflow. [UPDATE] I've gotten around the issue by just creating a new project and building it up again. I still have the broken one and I'd still like to figure out the problem with it. I'd appreciate any suggestions of what it might be.

  • Publishing my Website to my Local Disk Causes Exceptions to show Paths including my Local Disk

    - by coffeeaddict
    I've published my website many times. But didn't think about this though until I came across this issue. So I decided to publish my WAP project to a local folder on my C drive first. Then used FTP to upload it to my shared host on discountasp.net. I noticed during runtime that the stack trace was referencing that local folder still and erroring out. Anyone know what config settings are affected when publishing? Obviously something is still pointing to my local C drive and I've searched my entire solution and don't see why. Here's the runtime error I get when my code tries to run in discountasp.net's web server Cannot write into the public directory - check permissions Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: ScrewTurn.Wiki.PluginFramework.InvalidConfigurationException: Cannot write into the public directory - check permissions Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below. I think /Wiki should work...but it's not. Here's my site viewed in FTP on discountasp.net's server:

    How would I separate the below string into its parts. What I need to separate is each < Word including the angle brackets from the rest of the string. So in the below case I would end up with several strings 1. "I have to break up with you because " 2. "< reason " (without the spaces) 3. " . But Let's still " 4. "< disclaimer " 5. " ." I have to break up with you because <reason> . But let's still <disclaimer> . below is what I currently have (its ugly...) boolean complete = false; int begin = 0; int end = 0; while (complete == false) { if (s.charAt(end) == '<'){ stack.add(new Terminal(s.substring(begin, end))); begin = end; } else if (s.charAt(end) == '>') { stack.add(new NonTerminal(s.substring(begin, end))); begin = end; end++; } else if (end == s.length()){ if (isTerminal(getSubstring(s, begin, end))){ stack.add(new Terminal(s.substring(begin, end))); } else { stack.add(new NonTerminal(s.substring(begin, end))); } complete = true; } end++;
