Hi -
I'm trying to keep tabs on my home wireless network. Is there a good, GUI based tool that can show connected machines (make sure I don't have 'guests'), traffic stats, etc. Thanks.
I just got a ZTE AC2726 wireless broadband device for my Karmic Koala but I am not able install it as the vendor has given drivers for Jaunty and not Karmic. How do I go about it?
Now my team working in a network project using windows application c#.
How to scan the wireless devices which exist on the network. The functionality is exactly the same thing that you see in the existing windows utilities within the windows operating system. I'm sure you experienced when you plug a wireless laptop card in, it brings up a window that shows you all of the access points it detects for connecting to.
How to capture this information listed below
MAC Address
IP Address
SSID
Channel
Timestamp
Cipher type
Encryption level
Signal Strength
Did i use Kismet or NetStumbler.
Please suggest good library/code
If a wireless modem router has the option Allow multicast from Broadband Network, what does this mean exactly?
What risks are there to leaving it enabled and why would you have it enabled?
I understand that a broadcast is sending a packet to every device on the network and a multicast is send a packet to a specified set of addresses. A multicast packet can cross routers whereas a broadcast cannot although I don't quite understand how these "set of addresses are specified"
We are considering to buy a wireless 4G/LTE router (LG L-04D) in Japan.
Since we are moving to Norway (Europe) soon, we want something that would also work there (with a new SIM card and service provider, of course).
Does anyone know if this device will work in Norway? To my current understanding, there are some frequency standards to consider, but I was not able to find any understandable information.
Many thanks in advance.
I have a "Belkin N150" Router. My current setup is wired connection to my personal tv and xbox with wireless going to the Wii and Bedroom laptop.
Anytime I try streaming Netflix Instant Queue on the Wii, every other device has problems. The Wii works fine but everything else's connection is destroyed. Streaming through the Xbox doesn't create any issues for other devices.
What kind of issue is occurring and how can I fix it?
Google has an API which can determine someone's location based on the wifi router names which a user's computer can see. You will see this if you go to google maps and your browser may ask if you would like to share location data.
I am wondering if there is any way to disable this on a system wide setting rather than just in each browser (Chrome can do this too). Is there any way I can limit which applications have a list of the wireless routers I can see?
On Windows XP, I have a disconnected Wireless connection which shows up in the System Tray.
I have gone into Network Connections dialog box and elected not to show an icon when it is disconnected, yet it remains visible.
I have gone into the Task bar properties and elected to always hide this icon, but that doesn't remove it from the system tray.
How do I remove it?
Thanks
Are there any tools/utilities that will change Windows Update to not download when a machine is using a 3G-type wireless network connection?
Not sure if there is any difference between using a 3G USB key and a tethered iPhone.
hi,
every half hour or so, for 1-2 minutes my browser will stop navigating to sites, "waiting for ... to respond.." within 2 minutes i will be able to connect to sites and browse like normal again. weird thing is, while i cannot connect to sites, i get ping replies from any .com i type in.
this happens on my home wireless network, using FF and IE on a win7 desktop AND FF on an ubuntu laptop
the network is wpa2 secured, these are the only connections.
Hi, all.
I've noticed that my home broadband speed seems to be a bit slow in recent days. I noticed, last night, that my Wireless Router had given a DHCP lease to a public IP address with an odd formation; something like 111.10.11.110.
Should I consider these warning sings of my ZyXEL router being compromised in some way?
Thanks,
IVR Avenger
From time to time, I've encountered issues with OS X clients' network connections (Wired and Wireless, Leopard/Snow Leopard) where nothing will fix the issue, until you reboot.
Is there a particular 'network service/process' I should be watching out for?
I was thinking it would be useful to know of a command that will reset a 'network connection' type service/process (same as running a sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart).
Thanks!
I need to upgrade my existing wireless infrastructure and this time I want 2 access points to cover my house, since I get blind spots no matter what with a single AP, I have physical cabling to my central network available for both access points.
But I would really like these two to interoperate seamlessly as a single SSID. How do I do this and what are the features the new AP's I'm buying need to support ? (Product recommendations are welcome ;)
Both my router and my wireless networking card support the standards 802.11a/b/g/n but as I'm only getting speeds around 30-40 Mbit/s I suspect that it's the g standard being used instead of n. Now, I'd like to verify this somehow, so my question is: Is there a way (like a network diagnistics tool or the like) to find out which standard is currently used in the communication between computer and router?
I have a wlan setup with that my neighbors can probably access if they're knowledgable enough. My setup includes wireless authentication using WPA/WPA2 mixedmode, WPA-PSK pre-shared key, and enforced MAC filtering.
When I attempt to create a network connection in Windows Vista, there is no "ad hoc network" option available. Why is this?
The options available are (translated):
Connect to the Internet
Configure a wireless router or access point
Create a remote connection
Connect to a workplace
I just bought a Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual-Band, and I tried to log into the usual 2.4GHz 802.11n network with the usual pass key. Only now, the list says it's a 802.11g network and my pass key is incorrect.
Does anyone know this problem? And/Or how to fix it?
I'm setting up a new D-Link N300 router, and trying to connect a MacBook Pro and a MacBook, both running OS X 10.6.
As the question says, either computer can connect to the internet when connected to the router via Ethernet. And either one can get on the router's wireless network. But when connected wirelessly (without the Ethernet cable plugged in), neither one can get online.
I can't figure out why that would be. Any help appreciated.
In my office I have 4 computers connected to the Internet with a DIR-615 Wireless N 300 router which gives Internet to all pc's via Ethernet cable.
But sometimes this Internet goes off and I have to call the ISP and it takes them 2 days to repair it.
I wanted to know if in such cases, can I connect my two zte 3g usb modems to this DIR-615 Wirless N300 router and get emergency Internet in my office? What other steps are required to set up this fail-safe connection?
I have a macbook pro 1,1 that has problems with the wifi: i have a strong wireless router that reaches the far side of my house, but with my macbook pro, i have to stay within 1 meter away from the router to have internet connection. if i step out of that range, i lose connection.
now, my questions are:
1)what the hell i going on
2) is there a way to fix this?
I am using a BlueProton USB wireless network adapter and an Ubuntu 9.10 machine and the machine says that it is connected to the internet but it won't see other machines/devices on the local network and only a few websites work.
After a reboot, my internet connection lasts perhaps a half hour or so before tanking. I can ping (by both IP and hostname), but I cannot browse. If I restart the "Network Store Interface Service", my connection comes back. What could be failing with that service or its dependent services that would kill my ability to browse?
For some system info, I'm using a Sony Vaio with a fully-patched Windows Vista install and with an Intel 3945ABG wireless adapter.
Hi all!
Thanks in advance for any thoughts about this. I'm looking for a way to do realtime inter-app communication in iOS via wi-fi (I need about 150 ft range and don't think bluetooth offers this) and wonder about the peer-to-peer connectivity offered by GameKit which, apparently offers both bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity. My question is: must participating devices be members of an available wireless network (via a wireless router) or is this connectivity truly peer-to-peer requiring no router?
I understand Wi-fi Direct is coming and would likely be an option. Just wondering if I can do this utilizing services available in iOS today.
Thanks!
Tim
Hi, guys,
I'm running Windows 7.
Whenever I disable the wireless adapter, the "Disable" option does not change to "enable".
Similarly, for the "Local Area Connection", when I click on "Disable", the adapter gets disabled, but the "Disable" option remains.
In summary, I am never offered the option to enable an adapter.
