    I have made some research and found that bullet, ode, newton and some others are open source physics engines that should be portable enough (but I have never tried to comile/use anyone of them on phones). I am writing my games for mobile platforms in C++, so the engine should be C or C++. I need a fast engine, since mobile platforms have limited resources. I need a free engine. A good design would be nice to have too. What engine is best suited for my task? What I really would like to hear from you is your direct experience. Documentation and support (for example, forum or an IRC channel) is a really important aspect to take into consideration.

    I have a question related to mobile compatible websites, I have seen two type of websites One in which they adopt traditional website look and adjust website according to mobile screen, if they have lot of information which can not be adjust according to screen then they expand the height of page, so that user can scroll the page to see more information... In the second approach they used native application look means use navigation-bar, tab-bar, tool-bar, scroll-view just like in native applications. Height and width of page adjust according to screen size, if they have more information then they use scroll-view etc... My question is: which approach is better then other, in which approach you feel more comfortable to use website.

    I am trying to track down a game engine for developing mobile games for ios and android. I have been looking for weeks now and havent found what i am looking for. I like jmonkey engine for making desktop games. Its easy to use and it comes with everything you need. Its more that just some libraries. I'm looking for something similar for developing mobile games. I'd like it to be easy to use and have everything included not just a collection of libraries. And I would prefer to write in c++. I'm not looking for "the best". I'm just looking for some engines that match my criteria so I can try them out and see which one works best for me.

    We're currently building a new responsive website. While working on the site map, we figured that we don't want to show certain sections on mobile devices. This can be easily done by hiding the navigation parts using CSS/media queries. However, the trouble is that the hidden sites would still show up in search engine results. If a user happens to click on one of these links she might happen to see a badly formatted page as we'd use desktop/tablet only code to show images and video. Is there any way influence the search engines to exclude certain pages if the search is done on a mobile device? Do search engines crawl pages once or with a device specific view twice? Could we set a noindex meta tag for a specific device class?

    With the new CSS 3 and HTML 5 tecnology, the web applications gained a lot of new tools for a better UI(user interface) interaction, beautifull templates and even responsive layout to fit into tablets and smartphones. Within a corporate environment, those new tecnologies are required so the company can "follow" the IT evolution and their concurrent, but they also want that those new web applications supports old browsers. How to deal with this situation? By one side we are asked to follow the news and IT evolutions, create responsive layouts and use a lot of cool jQuery's plugins. And by the other side, we are asked to support old browsers that doesn't support those new responsive features, plugins or components. I would like advices and strategies to create "modern" web applications that are also supported on old browsers. How does your company deal with this situation? Is it possible to have the same web application running good and beauty on old browsers, and responsive, interactive on actual browsers?

  • HTML5 enabled browser for Windows Mobile 6

    I did some research on Google but I couldn't find any HTML5 browser for Windows Mobile 6. The main resource I'm looking for in HTML5 is WebDatabase and/or localStorage. With a little research I found Iris (http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-iris-browser.html), a Webkit based browser with some HTML5 features, but localStorage and Web Database doesn't work on it. Does anyone know any browser with storage capability for Windows Mobile 6?

    Hi, everyone: It's been a little over two weeks since the end of Oracle Open World 2012, and hope everyone has recovered sufficiently.  We have seen a tremendous amount of coverage on Oracle ADF Mobile during this Oracle Open World.  For starters, ADF Mobile demo booth was positioned in the Oracle Red Lounge in Moscone North, where all new and innovative technologies are being demonstrated.  The booth is liternally out front and the first booth in the area, and we had a lot of interested attendees talking to us.  It feels like ADF Mobile has finally arrived on the big stage.   • Good mobile oriented GWT widget library alternatives

    I've been developing a travel planning site - tripgrep.com - which is built on appengine, GWT and smartgwt, among other technologies. It is still early days, and the site is now working well on my development environment, which is either a windows or mac computer. However, I am frequently talking up the website to my friends when we are at a bar or other venue, so I am standing there while they try to access the site via an iPhone, Android or Blackberry - I've witnessed all three. It has been painfully obvious that the browser based frontend takes a long time to download on a mobile device. I am pretty sure this is because of the javascript download for SmartGWT. So, I would like to look at alternatives to SmartGWT. What I like about SmartGWT is that it has a reasonable look and feel out of the box - I don't need to learn any design or css and it has an office application look. This is considerably better than the GWT built-in widgets, which just get a blue border. The better look-and-feel is why I went with SmartGWT early on. However, the slow load times are killing me on these mobile demos. So now I want a fast loading widget alternative that has good look-and-feel out of the box. The features I care about are: tabs, good form layout, Google maps API integration, grid data viewing. If those are all available in a library that loads quickly on a mobile device, then that's the library I want.

    Oracle Coherence Coherence provides replicated and distributed (partitioned) data management and caching services on top of a reliable, highly scalable peer-to-peer clustering protocol. Coherence has no single points of failure; it automatically and transparently fails over and redistributes its clustered data management services when a server becomes inoperative or is disconnected from the network. When a new server is added, or when a failed server is restarted, it automatically joins the cluster and Coherence fails back services to it, transparently redistributing the cluster load. Coherence includes network-level fault tolerance features and transparent soft re-start capability to enable servers to self-heal. For the ones looking at an easy reading and first good approach to Oracle Coherence, I would recommend reading the following book : Overview of Oracle Coherence 3.5 Build scalable web sites and Enterprise applications using a market-leading data grid product Design and implement your domain objects to work most effectively with Coherence and apply Domain Driven Designs (DDD) to Coherence applications Leverage Coherence events and continuous queries to provide real-time updates to client applications Successfully integrate various persistence technologies, such as JDBC, Hibernate, or TopLink, with Coherence Filled with numerous examples that provide best practice guidance, and a number of classes you can readily reuse within your own applications This book is targeted to Architects and developers, and as in our team we're more about Solutions Architects than developers I found interest in this book as it help to understand better Oracle Coherence and its value. The only point I may not agree with the authors is that Oracle Coherence is not an alternative to Oracle RAC in providing High Availability, but combining both Oracle RAC and Oracle Coherence will help Architects and Customers to reach higher level of service and high-availability.   • Multi-Resolution Mobile Development

    I'm about to start development on my first game for mobile phone (I already have a flash prototype completed so it's jsut a matter of "porting" it to mobile and fixing up the code) and plan on hopefully being able to get the game working on iphones and most android devices. I am using Haxe along with OpenFL and HaxeFlixel for development. My question is: What resolution should I design the game in initially and/or what is the best way to develop a game for multiple resolutions. I have found multiple different methods, the best, in my opinion, being strategy 3 on this page: http://wiki.starling-framework.org/manual/multi-resolution_development. However I have some questions about this. First, what would the best base resolution to use be, the guide suggests 240*320 which seems alright to me, although if I chose to use pixel graphics as I most probably will given I'm using HaxeFlixel, I'm not sure if they'll look too blocky on larger screens which I'm not even sure is a problem as it might still look alright. (Honestly, not sure about that and if anyone has any examples of games that use this method and look nice). Finally, please feel free to share whatever methods you use and think is best. For example, HaxeFlixel has a scaling feature that scales the game to fit the exact screen size, but I'm afraid that would lead to blurry and improperly scaled graphics since it would scale by non-integers. But, I'm not sure how noticeable a problem that may or may not be. Although from experience I'm pretty sure it won't look nice and currently I do not think I'm going to go for this option. So, I would really appreciate any help on this subject. Thank you in advance.

    In Google Analytics, there is extensive information on the mobile device, version and browser version. However, this doesn't seem to go beyond the mobile browser. I would like to determine which application is responsible for visits to my site. Specifically, I want to know how many visits are coming from zite. http://www.handsetdetection.com/properties/vendormodel/Apple/iPad/page:4 seems to indicate this information is probably available, where/does Google Analytics expose this?
