  • What are the best books for Hibernate & JPA?

    - by Justin Standard
My team is about to build a new product and we are using Hibernate/JPA as the persistence mechanism. There are other book posts on stackoverflow, but I couldn't find one that matched my needs. My manager will be purchasing books for our team to use as a resource so... What are the best books about Hibernate and JPA? (Please list each book suggestion in a separate answer) (If you already see your book answered, instead of adding it again, just vote it up)

  • JAXB - representing an element as a boolean member?

    - by Marcus
We have this XML: <Summary> <ValueA>xxx</ValueA> <ValueB/> </Summary> <ValueB/> will never have any attributes or inner elements. It's a boolean type element - it exists (true) or it doesn't (false). JAXB generated a Summary class with a String valueA member, which is good. But for ValueB, JAXB generated a ValueB inner class and a corresponding member: @XmlElement(name = "ValueB") protected Summary.ValueB valueB; But what I'd like is a boolean member and no inner class: @XmlElement(name = "ValueB") protected boolean valueB; How can you do this? I'm not looking to regenerate the classes, I'd like to just make the code change manually.

  • How to implement custom JSF component for drawing chart?

    - by Roman
I want to create a component which can be used like: <mc:chart data="#{bean.data}" width="200" height="300" /> where #{bean.data} returns a collection of some objects or chart model object or something else what can be represented as a chart (to put it simple, let's assume it returns a collection of integers). I want this component to generate html like this: <img src="someimg123.png" width="200" height="300"/> The problem is that I have some method which can receive data and return image, like: public RenderedImage getChartImage (Collection<Integer> data) { ... } and I also have a component for drawing dynamic image: <o:dynamicImage width="200" height="300" data="#{bean.readyChartImage}/> This component generates html just as I need but it's parameter is array of bytes or RenderedImage i.e. it needs method in bean like this: public RenderedImage getReadyChartImage () { ... } So, one approach is to use propertyChangedListener on submit to set data (Collection<Integer>) for drawing chart and then use <o:dynamicImage /> component. But I'd like to create my own component which receives data and draws chart. I'm using facelets but it's not so important indeed. Any ideas how to create the desired component? P.S. One solution I was thinking about is not to use <o:dynamicImage/> and use some servlet to stream image. But I don't know how to implement that correctly and how to tie jsf component with servlet and how to save already built chart images (generating new same image for each request can cause performance problems imho) and so on..

  • Why is the servlet request not available in the portlet API

    - by John Smith
The portlet API deos not provide any reference to the enclosing servlet request and response objects. I know it is not the preferred model of interaction with the user, but it seems draconian to remove all access. I understand that for portlet driven interaction with the user, you want to use portlet URLs, and let the portlet container manage all the complexity. However if you have a number of portlets which are basically showing variants of the same data, it makes sense for them to be able to use the enclosing request to drive the data. We ended up using using a Liferay specific call to get the request, and it all seems to work as we wish. However I do feel the guilt. So my question really is, is there an underlying deep reason for the prohibition, or is it just to enforce the authors view of the API environment?

  • How to suppress/control logging of Wagon-FTP Maven extension?

    - by Vincenzo
I'm deploying Maven site by FTP, using Wagon-FTP. Works fine, but output is full of FTP connection/authentication details, which effectively expose logins and passwords to everybody (especially if the project is open source and its CI protocols are publicly accessible): [...] [INFO] [INFO] --- maven-site-plugin:3.0-beta-3:deploy (default-deploy) @ rempl --- Reply received: 220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep] [TLS] ---------- 220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed. 220-Local time is now 09:08. • JSF 2.0 Dynamic Views

    - by Robe Eleckers
Hello, I'm working on a web project which uses JSF 2.0, PrimeFaces and PrettyFaces as main frameworks / libraries. The pages have the following (common) structure: Header, Content, Footer. Header: The Header always contains the same menu. This menu is a custom component, which generates a recursive html <ul><li> list containing <a href="url"> html links, this is all rendered with a custom renderer. The link looks like 'domain.com/website/datatable.xhtml?ref=2'. Where the ref=2 used to load the correct content from the database. I use prettyfaces to store this request value in a backingbean. Question 1: Is it ok to render the <a href> links myself, or should I better add an HTMLCommandLink from my UIComponent and render that in the encodeBegin/End? Question 2: I think passing variables like this is not really the JSF 2.0 style, how to do this in a better way? Content: The content contains dynamic data. It can be a (primefaces) datatable, build with dynamic data from the database. It can also be a text page, also loaded from the database. Or a series of graphs. You got the point, it's dynamic. The content is based on the link pressed in the header menu. If the content is of type datatable, then I put the ref=2 variable to a DataTableBean (via prettyfaces), which then loads the correct datatable from the database. If the content is of type chart, I'll put it on the ChartBean. Question 3: Is this a normal setup? Ideally I would like to update my content via Ajax. I hope it's clear :)

  • Spring MVC- several parts/views from a controller

    - by leeeroy
i'm looking into using Spring MVC - how would I structure the fact that a page can be composed of several different views Consider a controller that's basically: public ModelAndView handleRequest(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { List<Post> posts = repository.getNewPosts(); return new ModelAndView("posts", "posts", posts); } However, I decide that on every page, I'd also want a side "pane" that shows data based on some logic. That "pane" would just be a .jsp that gets included from the above "posts" view, and I could change my controller to: public ModelAndView handleRequest(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { List<Post> posts = repository.getNewPosts(); List<Items> items= repository.getItems(); return new ModelAndView("model", "model", new MyCommonViewModel(posts, items)); } But then I'd have to change every controller to also do List<Items> items= repository.getItems(); , and change everything again the next time I come up with something new. This seems messy. How do I structure this ? `

  • Google Collections sources don't compile

    - by Carl Rosenberger
I just downloaded the Google Collections sources and imported them into a new Eclipse project with JDK 1.6. They don't compile for a couple of reasons: javax.annotation.Nullable can not be found javax.annotation.ParametersAreNonnullByDefault can not be found Cannot reduce the visibility of the inherited method #createCollection() from AbstractMultimap + 11 similar ones Name clash: The method forcePut(K, V) of type AbstractBiMap has the same erasure as forcePut(Object, Object) of type BiMap but does not override it + 2 similar ones What am I missing? I also wonder if unit tests for these collections are available to the public.

  • Choosing the right template engine

    - by asrijaal
Hi there, since today - I always used simple JSP Tags and JSTL which works but now I'm looking for a little bit more features and maybe more usability. With googling I've found Freemaker, Velocity and Tiles which seem to be very famous. Does someone of you has some further experiences with some of these and can give me a short brief about it. Or are there other frameworks which are worth to look into?

  • Unexpected generics behaviour

    - by pronicles
    I found strange generics behaviour. In two words - thing I realy want is to use ComplexObject1 in most general way, and the thing I realy missed is why defined generic type(... extends BuisnessObject) is lost. The discuss thread is also awailable in my blog http://pronicles.blogspot.com/2010/03/unexpected-generics-behaviour.html. public class Test { public interface EntityObject {} public interface SomeInterface {} public class BasicEntity implements EntityObject {} public interface BuisnessObject<E extends EntityObject> { E getEntity(); } public interface ComplexObject1<V extends SomeInterface> extends BusinessObject<BasicEntity> {} public interface ComplexObject2 extends BuisnessObject<BasicEntity> {} public void test(){ ComplexObject1 complexObject1 = null; ComplexObject2 complexObject2 = null; EntityObject entityObject1 = complexObject1.getEntity(); //BasicEntity entityObject1 = complexObject1.getEntity(); wtf incompatible types!!!! BasicEntity basicEntity = complexObject2.getEntity(); } }

  • JCo | How to iterate column wise

    - by cedar715
The data from SAP is returned as a JCo.Table. However, we don't want to display ALL the columns in the VIEW. So, what we have done is, we have created a file called display.xml which has the JCO.Table columns to be displayed. The display.xml is converted to a List and each field is verified if it is present in the display list(see the code below) which is redundant from second row onwards. final Table outputTable = jcoFunction.getTableParameterList(). getTable("OUTPUT_TABLE"); final int numRows = outputTable.getNumRows(); for (int i = 0; i < numRows; i++) { final FieldIterator fields = outputTable.fields(); while (fields.hasNextFields()) { final JCO.Field recordField = fields.nextField(); final String sapFieldName = recordField.getName(); final DisplayFieldDto key = new DisplayFieldDto(sapFieldName); if (displayFields.contains(key)) { System.out.println("recordField.getName() = " + recordField.getName()); final String sapFieldName = (String)recordField.getValue(); } else { // ignore the field. } } } What is the better way to filter the fields in JCo? Can I iterate column wise? Thank you :)

  • Maven2: Best practise for Enterprise Project (EAR file)

    - by Maik
Hello everyone, I am just switching from Ant to Maven and am trying to figure out the best practice to set up a EAR file based Enterprise project? Lets say I want to create a pretty standard project with a jar file for the EJBs, a WAR file for the Web tier and the encapsulating EAR file, with the corresponding deployment descriptors. How would I go about it? Create the project with archetypeArtifactId=maven-archetype-webapp liek a war file and extend from there? What is the best project structure (and POM file example) for this? Where do you stick the ear file related deployment descriptors, etc? Thanks for any help.

  • How do I lock the layout of my android program to one orientation

    - by Mike V
I'm trying to write a program that needs smooth orientation sensor samples as the phone is rotated all around. Every time the orientation of the phone is changed, it interrupts the data and freezes the program while the layout changes. How can I lock it in one orientation (landscape or portrait, it doesn't matter)? I assume it has something to do with android:layout in the xml file, but I can't find anything online.
