  Hello, I would like to create a document generator with templating. The workflow should be as following: The user input data to a static form (simple text input). The user chooses a graphically designed template. A document with the chosen template containing the user data is generated. The initial templates repository is prepared in advance, but it should be easy to add new templates to the process. I have the full MS Office suite and the preferred file format is an MS .doc. I can do a little VB scripting if needed, but I prefer not to. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Anna

• Impact of Server Failure on Coherence Request Processing

  Requests against a given cache server may be temporarily blocked for several seconds following the failure of other cluster members. This may cause issues for applications that can not tolerate multi-second response times even during failover processing (ignoring for the moment that in practice there are a variety of issues that make such absolute guarantees challenging even when there are no server failures). In general, Coherence is designed around the principle that failures in one member should not affect the rest of the cluster if at all possible. However, it's obvious that if that failed member was managing a piece of state that another member depends on, the second member will need to wait until a new member assumes responsibility for managing that state. This transfer of responsibility is (as of Coherence 3.7) performed by the primary service thread for each cache service. The finest possible granularity for transferring responsibility is a single partition. So the question becomes how to minimize the time spent processing each partition. Here are some optimizations that may reduce this period: Reduce the size of each partition (by increasing the partition count) Increase the number of JVMs across the cluster (increasing the total number of primary service threads) Increase the number of CPUs across the cluster (making sure that each JVM has a CPU core when needed) Re-evaluate the set of configured indexes (as these will need to be rebuilt when a partition moves) Make sure that the backing map is as fast as possible (in most cases this means running on-heap) Make sure that the cluster is running on hardware with fast CPU cores (since the partition processing is single-threaded) As always, proper testing is required to make sure that configuration changes have the desired effect (and also to quantify that effect).

  Im new to ActionScript and Flex 3... im trying to develop an MVC 100% OOP application with Flex 3 using MXML,AS3 and PHP. M (PHP) V (MXML) C (AS3) The 3 layers i choose for my development. I have 10 AS3 classes that are object related between them and some inherit or implement interfaces. The only problem here is how to interact 100% OOP with my model. In this case my model has to be a PHP Class that needs to be called from AS3 (the controller). For example the AS3 class : Patient have a method called Save: public function Save(data:Array) : void { /* PHP call - model layer */ } I want to create an instance of my PHP Patient Model class that connects to the DB and insert the data array into it. What should i use ? how can i also return a variable to AS3 ? What happen to as3 if there is a cached Exception in PHP ? Thanks in advanced :)

However, when I retrieve the details, I keep finding that the last two guest details are always the same even though different inputs were given.   I have a very simple script that is to test if running a shell_exec (or backtick operator) basically works: #!/usr/bin/php5-cli <?php echo "This is a PHP script\n"; echo `ls -l /home/stoysnet/`; Unless I run this as root, it always gives me: $ ./foo.php This is a PHP script Warning: _shell_exec(): Permission Denied in /home/stoysnet/foo.php on line 5 I've tried running this via PHP in a few different ways, but I always get the same error. However, when I put the script into a subdirectory of /etc/ owned by root:root and executed as root it works. What gives?

  I am trying to install Php on Vista (IIS 7). The installation and configuration seems to be fine. Pretty much followed everything mentioned in http://blogs.iis.net/bills/archive/2006/09/19/How-to-install-PHP-on-IIS7-_2800_RC1_2900_.aspx I can even bring up a test.php which is basically and can also connect to mysql db through code. But when I try to bring up some other php page like drupal's index page or phpmyadmin index page, it brings up a Php access violation message. Any clue whats happening? Also is there some tracing/diagnositic tool for php to trace whats happenign on the webserver.

• Pagination links broken - php/jquery

  Hey, I'm still trying to get my pagination links to load properly dynamically. But I can't seem to find a solution to this one problem. vote down star Hi everyone, I am still trying to figure out how to fix my pagination script to work properly. the problem I am having is when I click any of the pagination number links to go the next page, the new content does not load. literally nothing happens and when looking at the console in Firebug, nothing is sent or loaded. I have on the main page 3 links to filter the content and display it. When any of these links are clicked the results are loaded and displayed along with the associated pagination numbers for that specific content. I believe the problem is coming from the sql query in generate_pagination.php (seen below). When I hard code the sql category part it works, but is not dynamic at all. This is why I'm calling $ids=$_GET['ids']; and trying to put that into the category section but then the numbers don't display at all. • Not able to open a file in php

  The following code works when invoking through the command line with php -f test.php, from root. It does not work though when being invoked via apache when loading the php page. The code chokes at fopen() and the resulting web page just says "can't open file". <?php $fp = fopen("/path/to/some_file.txt","a") or die("can't open file"); fwrite($fp,"some text"); fclose($fp); ?> I tried to play with the file permissions, but to no avail. I changed the user/group with chown apache:apache test.php and changed permissions with chmod 755 test.php. '/template.php'); } } This code works pretty well, the problem is I want to inverse the content adding, meaning that I want first "content/templates/id9/template.php" included before "id8/template.php" and so on till the first..   Hi there! I have a cron job running a PHP script every five minutes; the PHP script executes two bash commands at the end of the script. I know the script is running due to a log file it appends to. When I run the PHP script manually via the Ubuntu Gnome Terminal both bash commands execute flawlessly; however when the PHP script is triggered via cron, the two bash commands are not ran.   I'm no stranger to __get(), and have used it to make some very convenient libraries in the past. However, I'm faced with a new challenge (PHP 5.3, abbreviated and simplified my code for this question): <?php namespace test; class View { function __construct($filename, $varArray) { $this->filename = $filename; $this->varArray = $varArray; } function display() { include($this->filename); } function __get($varName) { if (isset($this->varArray[$varName])) return $this->varArray[$varName]; return "?? $varname ??"; } } ?> Above is a very, very simplified system for loading a View. This code would call the view and display it: <?php require_once("View.php"); use test\View; $view = new View("views/myview.php", array("user" => "Tom")); $view->display(); ?> My goal for this code is to allow the view "myview.php" to contain code like this: <p> Hello <?php echo $user; ?>! Your E-mail is <?php echo $email; ?> </p> And, used with the above code, this would output "Hello Tom! Your E-mail is ?? email ??" However, this won't work. The view is being included within a class method, so when it refers to $user and $email, it's looking for local function variables -- not variables belonging to the View class. For this reason, __get never gets triggered. I could change all my view's variables to things like $this-user and $this-email, but that would be a messy and unintuitive solution. I'd love to find a way where I can reference variables directly WITHOUT having PHP throw an error when an undefined variable is used. Thoughts? Is there a clean way to do this, or am I forced to resort to hacky solutions?

  I saw this post on Sitepoint quoting a statement by Rasmus Lerdorf which goes (according to Sitepoint) as follows: "How can you make PHP fast? Well, you can’t" was his quick answer. PHP is simply not fast enough to scale to Yahoo levels. PHP was never meant for those sorts of tasks. "Any script based language is simply not fast enough". To get the speed that is necessary for truly massive web systems you have to use compiled C++ extensions to get true, scaleable architecture. That is what Yahoo does and so do many other PHP heavyweights. Intrigued by the statement (not to mention the fact that up to now, all I was doing in PHP was small database-based apps), I was wondering how I could "use compiled C++ extensions" with PHP. Any ideas or resources?

• Renaming Functions during runtime in PHP.

  In PHP 5.3 is there a way to rename a function or "hook" a function. There is the rename_function() within "APD" which has been broken since ~2004. If you try and build it on PHP 5.3 you'll get this error: 'struct _zend_compiler_globals' has no member named 'extended_info' This is a really easy error to fix, just change this line: GC(extended_info) = 1; to CG(compiler_options) |= ZEND_COMPILE_EXTENDED_INFO; I modified my php.ini and the APD shows up in my phpinfo() as it should. However when i call rename_function() the PHP page doesn't load and I get a segmentation fault in my /var/log/apache2/error.log. Is there anyway to fix APD to work with a modern version of PHP? Or is there another method to rename functions? Why on earth is vital feature not in php!??!?! (Gotta love python :)

• File private variables in PHP

  Is it possible to define private variables in a PHP script so these variables are only visible in this single PHP script and nowhere else? I want to have an include file which does something without polluting the global namespace. It must work with PHP 5.2 so PHP namespaces are not an option. And no OOP is used here so I'm not searching for private class members. I'm searching for "somewhat-global" variables which are global in the current script but nowhere else. In C I could do it with the static keyword but is there something similar in PHP? Here is a short example of a "common.php" script: $dir = dirname(__FILE__); set_include_path($dir . PATH_SEPARATOR . get_include_path()); // Do more stuff with the $dir variable When I include this file in some script then the $dir variable is visible in all other scripts as well and I don't want that. So how can I prevent this?

  Hello, I have a PHP script that has a runtime of 34 seconds. But it dies after 30 seconds. I guess my webhost a time limit of 30 seconds. I am thinking of splitting the script into two parts say PHP-1 and PHP-2. Can I call PHP-2 from PHP-1 and kill PHP-1? Both scripts have to run in sequence, so calling both of them using cron is not possible. [ My host provides cron with interval 5 mins and does not allow to change the start time] -Will this circumvent the time limit set by host?

• PHP: session isnt saving before header redirect

  Hi guys, I have read through the php manual for this problem and it seems quite a common issue but i have yet to find a solution. I am saving sessions in a database. My code is as follows: // session $_SESSION['userID'] = $user->id; header('Location: /subdirectory/index.php'); Then at the top of index.php after the session_start(), i have var_dumped the $_SESSION global and the userID is not in there. As i said ive looked through the PHP manual (http://php.net/manual/en/function.session-write-close.php) and neither session_write_close or session_regenerate_id(true) worked for me. Does anybody know a solution? Edit: I have session_start() at the top of my file. When i var_dump the session global before the header redirect, i see the userID in there, but not in the other file, which is in a subdirectory of this script Thanks, Matt
