• Installing Django/Python on IIS6

  We are currently installing the latest version of Django and Python on IIS6. We have followed the instructions on the following site: http://code.djangoproject.com/wiki/DjangoOnWindowsWithIISAndSQLServer We are receiving a 403 error when trying to access our Django application via the IIS server. We have verified the python installation on IIS6 and it is working properly. We have also verified the Django installation. Our application runs fine under the built-in Django server, but we are having difficulties getting it to run under IIS. We presume we could be getting errors from "Linking Django to PyISAPIe" section of the instructions provided on the link above. Thanks.

• CSS and jQuery slider height/positioning question

  TEST SITE If you look at the example above the slider on the right has 2 images. The first one is smaller than the second. The second is around 500px high. What I'm looking to do is expand the slider vertically depending on the height of the images inside. I believe the js is setting the height of the image when it is called from the server and I can't find a way to override it with the CSS. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you!

• Scrambling URLS for dynamic data

  What is the best method to obfuscate the urls created in Dynamic Data? eg \Products\List.aspx?ProductId=2 could become \Products\List.aspx?x=UHJvZHVjdElkPTI= where "ProductId=2" is base 64 encoded to prevent casual snooping on \Products\List.aspx?ProductId=3 \Products\List.aspx?ProductId=4 etc...? I will probably have to inherit from an existing object and override some function The question is which object and what function GetActionPath of the Metamodel object seems interesting, but how does the DynamicRoute "{table}/{Action}.aspx" play in into it... • Why did the aspnet_client folder come back in ASP.NET 4?

  I recently upgraded my MVC 1 project (ASP.NET 3.5) to MVC 2 (ASP.NET 4). I noticed there is now a folder "aspnet_client\system_web\4_0_30319" under the site root. This folder is empty... I'm just wondering if anyone knows why it was created. I remember the aspnet_client folder from the days of .NET 1.1, but I thought it was obsoleted when .NET 2.0 came out. For example, see the answers in these two stackoverflow posts: What is the aspnet_client folder in my ASP.NET website? What is the aspnet_client folder for under the IIS structure?   I've been trying to install mapnik on my computer for hours but what i always get when I import mapnik is ImportError: DLL load failed: The specified procedure could not be found. I'm using Windows 7. The currently installed software is Geoserver from Opengeo suite. • .Net reflection to get developers comments about class / property etc?

  Hi, I know its unlikely but I was wondering if there is any way to get the comments (i.e. the bits after the ''') of a class or property..? I have managed to get a list of properties of a class using the PropertyInfo class but I cant find a way to get the comments / description.. I need it for a guide I am writing for the administrators of my site - it would be great if it could automatically update if new properties are added, so there is no need to worry about updating it in the future too much. • Django BigInteger auto-increment field as primary key?

  Hi all, I'm currently building a project which involves a lot of collective intelligence. Every user visiting the web site gets created a unique profile and their data is later used to calculate best matches for themselves and other users. By default, Django creates an INT(11) id field to handle models primary keys. I'm concerned with this being overflown very quickly (i.e. ~2.4b devices visiting the page without prior cookie set up). How can I change it to be represented as BIGINT in MySQL and long() inside Django itself? I've found I could do the following (http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/models/fields/#bigintegerfield): class MyProfile(models.Model): id = BigIntegerField(primary_key=True) But is there a way to make it autoincrement, like usual id fields? Additionally, can I make it unsigned so that I get more space to fill in? Thanks!

• Javascript top variable in IE8

  I am trying to reference a javascript function in a .js file loaded in my main page from an iframe using the 'top' variable. It works in FF, Safari, and IE6 but not in IE8. The snippet is (assigned to onmouseover): top.set_image(this, 'images/login_h.png') Where set_image is my function. The error is "Object does not support this function" Also, I have been looking for the definition of top. I can't find it in the ECMAScript specification or the w3schools site and Google is unhelpful (who'da thunk top was a common word?).

• InfoPath Repeating Group with Data from SharePoint and User Input

  I have a series of questions which are pulled from a SharePoint list and loaded into a repeating section. The section has three elements, the Question # (from SharePoint), and Question itself (from SharePoint), and a drop down box Yes/No (NOT from SharePoint)... The repeating group portion works just fine, it is pulling all Question # and Questions from the SharePoint site, but I cannot bind the drop down box (yes/no) to any sort of local data source in order to record the information. Essentially what I have is a dynamically generated form which pulls questions off a SharePoint and a user will answer Yes or No for each question. I cannot associate the Yes/No drop down with anything because it resides within a Repeating section... Thanks for any help!

I don't know why there is this limitation as the comments are very useful. Imagine if there was a limit of 60 characters for your programs. I wrote about this on my site and have some snapshots to the phpMyAdmin and Dbforge MySQL IDEs: http://mysql.tutorialref.com/mysql-table-comment-length-limit.html Is there a way to change this in phpMyAdmin or perhaps even on the CLI? • NHibernate handling mutliple resultsets from a sp call

  I'm using a stored procedure to handle search on my site, it includes full text searching, relevance and paging. I also wanted it to return the total number of results that would have been returned, had paging not being there. So I've now got my SP returning 2 select statements, the search and just SELECT @totalResults. Is there any way I can get NHibernate to handle this? I'm currently accessing the ISession's connection, creating a command and executing the SP myself, and mapping the results. This isn't ideal, so I'm hoping I can get NH to handle this for me. Or if anyone has any other better ways of creating complicated searches etc with NH, I'd really like to hear it.

• Playing flash (.flv) videos on the web in a way that portable devices can view them

  A friend of mine has created a movie for my site, it's in .flv format. I've heard of the popular flash player called flowplayer, but I have a bad feeling such a player will not work on the ipad and other devices which do not support flash. Is there a way to play a video in the flash format through a non-flash player so that the content can be viewed on all devices? I'm open to any ideas. Perhaps I may even need to convert the video to another format somehow. Thanks for any help, Evan

  Hi everyone, I haven't delved into custom generation of friendly URLs in ASP.Net MVC, and was wondering if anyone had suggestions. For example, if John Smith were to create an account on www.example.com, I'd like for his homepage to read www.example.com/JohnSmith -- along with the option for him to choose his URL. The ideal is for this to happen with no intervention on my part in the route maps. Also, does anyone have guidelines on good ways to go to customize an MVC site based on URL? Again, using example.com I'd like for John to choose a color theme and logo for his homepage, then apply it accordingly. Thanks for your tips and suggestions.

• NO-SQL reliable for small bussines app?

  I'm deciding between go for a NON-SQL engine or a regular SQL one for a document managment system for small bussines. I have experience with firebird/sql server and found a good track of reliability (specially with firebird). This market is full of crappy "servers" (clon-made PC, the mayority), cheap harddisk, rarely use of RAID or anything like that, some are in locations where a power-off is normal, some not have a UPS, etc... (I will include off-site auto-backup to external servers, but that no change the internal setup). (I know about end-user education about such proper setups, but is stupid depend on that, so stick to te point) From the desing point of view, a schema-less database is the way to go for my system, but, I worry if any of the actual solutions (MongoDb, Tokyo Cabinet, etc) are like firebird and survice crash, malfunctions & abuse so data corruption is very rare. The plan is store the office documents there & provide a central repository.

  Hi All, I need to create dash boards showing geographic regions and show sales, hot spots etc on a map. What have you tried and what do you recommend? I like the look of both Fusion Charts and Dundas I will be using asp.net for the site but any control's or library's including flash or javascript are good options. Most important is the look and feel followed by functionality in South Africa. After my last post looking for commercial mapping solutions, it looks like they are very expensive and now I am investigating alternatives to full mapping solutions. thanks

• [Strange problem] ASP.NET MVC 2.0 RTM cannot work with VWD 2008 Express on a new Windows 7 Pro

  The MVC 2.0 RTM works great on my old Vista machine with VWD 2008 Express, but I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 Pro, installed VWD 2008 Express SP1 and MVC 2.0 RTM by using Web PI 2.0. but after installation, I found the VWD doesn't have any MVC options, that means I can't either create new MVC projects or compile existing MVC projects. Why? What other steps I need to do to make it work? I'm sure the MVC has been installed properly since my MVC site on the new computer works well (so the IIS side has no problem), just the VWD can't 'realize' that the MVC framework is already installed... (tried to uninstall and install many times, but won't work)

• Django admin urls return INVALID REQUEST! - Django

  Hi folks, my admin urls are sat behind a prefix by doing the following. 1# (r'^admin/', include(admin.site.urls)), is placed within urls_core.py 2# (r'^api/', include('project.urls_core')), is palced within urls.py All admin URLs work fine except app indexes. If I go to any URL such as: /api/admin/core/ /api/admin/registration/ /api/admin/users/ /api/admin/filters/ I receive 'INVALID REQUEST' as my response. Status code is 200 (OK) though. I have never received this error message before. Does anyone have a clue? Thanks guys!

• Facebook Connect showPermissionDialog callback fires before user can even see the dialog

  I'm doing a Facebook Connect integration for a site and when the user logs in, I need to ask for some permissions so I use FB.Connect.showPermissionDialog. I use its callback to see if permissions were granted. If they are granted, I want to submit the form. Here's what my code looks like: $("#form3").live("submit", function() { FB.Connect.showPermissionDialog('email, offline_access', function(perms) { if (!perms) { location.href="http://www.mysite.com/logout/"; return false; } else { save_session(); } }); }); The problem is that the form submits before the user can even see the permission dialog.   Hey all - I have to design and implement a Fortran routine to determine the size of clusters on a square lattice, and it seemed extremely convenient to code the subroutine recursively. However, whenever my lattice size grows beyond a certain value (around 200/side), the subroutine consistently segfaults. Here's my cluster-detection routine: RECURSIVE SUBROUTINE growCluster(lattice, adj, idx, area) INTEGER, INTENT(INOUT) :: lattice(:), area INTEGER, INTENT(IN) :: adj(:,:), idx lattice(idx) = -1 area = area + 1 IF (lattice(adj(1,idx)).GT.0) & CALL growCluster(lattice,adj,adj(1,idx),area) IF (lattice(adj(2,idx)).GT.0) & CALL growCluster(lattice,adj,adj(2,idx),area) IF (lattice(adj(3,idx)).GT.0) & CALL growCluster(lattice,adj,adj(3,idx),area) IF (lattice(adj(4,idx)).GT.0) & CALL growCluster(lattice,adj,adj(4,idx),area) END SUBROUTINE growCluster where adj(1,n) represents the north neighbor of site n, adj(2,n) represents the west and so on. What would cause the erratic segfault behavior? Is the cluster just "too huge" for large lattice sizes?
