  I recently upgraded to 11.10 from 11.04, everything went fine, still hate unity and all that. But my battery status is not showing up at all, even on my laptop. There isn't even any spaces for it, there is only the Mail Icon, Wirelesss Icon, Sound, Time, [username] and Power. I have tried several different things to get it, but I am at a loss. Please help I've already tried to install indicator-power and it is installed.

  I have a Thinkpad X230. After a boot it hangs with checking battery state [OK]. A second boot is most times successful. What I have seen in other posts doesn't fit to my problem, because My graphics card is Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics controller (not nvidia) It happens not always I have a fresh installed 12.10 with the latest updates (no upgrade) Does anyone experience the same issues or has a solution?

• Wireless mouse temporarily freezes (sleeps) on battery power

  I have been getting a very annoying problem since recently in Ubuntu 12.04, probably due to another update that did more bad than good... When I resume from sleep on battery power my Lenovo Thinkpad T420, my wireless laser mouse (Logitech M705) freezes everytime I leave it for 2 seconds. It then starts moving again when I shake it for 5 seconds. The touchpad works normally. I'm guessing the mouse enters some sleep mode and I'd like to know where to change this "timeout" value.

  In our office, there are frequent eletric shortages that harm my desktop computer, so I wanted to install a UPS. However, my office-mates pointed me to papers talking about hazardous radiation from the UPS. The UPS manufacturers themselves recommend to put the UPS several meters away from humans, which is not possible because our office is small (the power is about 0.5 meters from us). As an alternative to UPS, my office-mates recommended that I switch to a laptop, which has a battery so it's immune to shortages. I have several questions: Is it true that the radiation from a laptop battery is lower than the radiation from a UPS? They do just the same thing - supply power using a battery! If the answer to 1 is yes - is there an alternative way to attach a battery, similar to a laptop battery, to a desktop computer? If the answer to 1 is no - how can I prove this to my office-mates, so that they let me use UPS?

  I know this question is not programming related, so for this I made community wiki. Developers are the best guys to answer the question. I am addressed to those that do development on devices that runs on batteries, like phones, gadgets etc. Probably you are constantly develop for them, and therefor they are always plugged in and charged at 100%. We develop mainly for smartphones and we have devices that were always above 90% charged in the last month or so. If a battery is always charged, it degrades it life cycle, so what steps you do to ensure decent battery drain to maximize the life of the batteries.

• USB Mouse sleeping after 5 seconds when on battery

  My usb mouse sleeps after 5 seconds of inactivity when running on battery power. It wakes uo again when i press any button on the mouse. This is really annoying. I have made lsusb, and I noticed my mouse is Bus 001 Device 012: ID 04d9:2083 Holtek Semiconductor, Inc. I have checked my /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/autosuspend but it is already set to 0, and the directory usb1 has many subdirectories which also have autosuspend files, and i dont know how to edit them. Also, I would like a permanent solution, which would work for any mouse, on any of my 3 usb ports. Any ideas? Using: Ubuntu 12.04 64bit

Trying to ensure that the right things happen when I close laptop lid, etc. I see Internet search results for similar issues that mostly point towards gnome-power-manager. I have the package installed, but gnome-power-manager is not in my path anywhere. The behavior I'm looking for is as following: Sleep on lid close Awaken on lid open Turn off screen after 10 idle minutes Most importantly, have better battery life. I'm supposed to be getting 9 hours and I haven't seen the battery life estimate above 2.5 hours yet. Any tips on where to look or how to configure this would be much appreciated.

• Used DBAN to wipe Lenovo u410 then installed Ubuntu. Need to install windows 8, but I get an error.

  When I try to boot from my windows 8 USB (tested on a separate PC), I get this error text "The boot configuration data for your pc is missing or contains errors." I want to install windows again so I can fix a battery issue I'm having. Lenovo's power management app has an option to keep the battery at 60% if the laptop stays plugged in most of the time. I enabled this, then formatted without changing it back. I think there might be a raid setup that I may need to remove or something. I don't mind removing Ubuntu and starting fresh. I would just love some help with all this, I'm a noob when it comes to Linux.

  So I wanted to extend my laptop battery life. After googleing a lot I found many tips and tricks. Some even in this site as well. Then I found this package in synaptic as well laptop-mode-tools. Now I am not well aware of what harddrive spinoffs are, so I have a dilemma of installing this package as it seems to remove acpi support as well. So my question is, how reliable is this package in battery life extension and what configurations should I use with it ? Also I stumbled upon some posts saying spinoffs may kill the harddrive as well. So can anyone clearify with some configuration tips especially for laptop-mode-tools. Thanks in advance

  Recently I've installed dual boot ubuntu 13.10 alongside windows 8. My Laptop is Dell Inspiron 15, with AMD Radeon HD 7670 Video Card. Without fglrx my battery is draining to 1:30 hrs from 3:30hrs (In Ubuntu 13.04 but very slow booting ) so I installed fglrx using What is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers (fglrx)? But the problem is as you all know, Black Screen after logging into ubuntu. Tried so many solutions for this like reinstalling unity , ubuntu-desktop , compizconfig , etc.. but none helped except removing fglrx* completely. (But I need them very badly due to battery) Assuming that all hope is lost., Posting here as a final try.! Will be highly greatfull for those who helped :) PS : For those who think this question is a duplicate., Though the question may be a duplicate, but the answer is not! • HP Bluetooth Mouse Connection Problems

  About a month ago, I turned on my laptop (Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 8.1 dual boot, though the mouse works fine in Windows), logged in and connected my HP x4000b mouse via a bluetooth dongle (Kinivo BTD-400), and noticed that the battery indicator in Ubuntu said that the mouse battery was at 0%. The day before it was around 30%, so I decided to just change the batteries in the mouse, but after reconnecting with the new batteries, it still said 0%. The mouse connected and worked just fine, so I didn't think much of it. About a week after that, I noticed that my mouse would sometimes disconnect if I didn't use it, but since reconnecting isn't that hard I just decided to leave it. Now it also won't reconnect unless I log out and back in again, which is getting sort of tedious. Is there any way to fix this issue? Any help is appreciated, and I will try and respond to questions ASAP. Thanks.

  The Ubuntu page for my device states the following at the bottom (Known Issues) PowerTOP reports that the module for the 10/100/1000 interface wakes the processor 100+x/sec, accounting for 50% of wakeups on an idle system. This dramatically shortens battery life. One potential solution is to unload this module if you only use wireless. I only use wireless, but I could not find instructions to "unload the module". I have a feeling if I try something related to this, but not the same, battery life will not improve and my eth0 won't work. Anyone have a good guide on this?

• graphics performance better on battery?

  Anyone have any idea why my laptop would perform (considerably) better while on battery than while plugged in? It's a Dell Latitude E6420 with Windows 8 Pro. I tried mirroring all the settings in the selected power plan from "On battery" to "Plugged In" and that didn't help. I then just restored the defaults for all power plans (balanced and high performance). I'm still seeing the same results. The best example where it is most noticeable (don't laugh) is Sim City Social in Chrome. I'm probably seeing a performance increase of 5x on battery versus plugged in. This is easily reproducible too. I'm very confused. Could it be caused by dust? The laptop isn't that old and there is no visible dust. I'm not going to take it apart to check the insides as it's a corporate laptop. Could it be overheating? • Which powerful laptop, with UK keyboard and 8gb ram

  I've been searching high and low for high spec laptops compatible with Ubuntu. The lack of coherent information on the topic is high (considering the number of people who apparently want a good laptop with an OS operating system). So I thought you may have some advice. My requirements: a) has = 8Gb ram b) is compatible with Ubuntu c) has a UK keyboard and charger d) does not cost the Earth Which would you go for? Does anyone have good experience with high-end laptops running Ubuntu? So here's some background research: Samsung Series 7 looks great, but has various problems on Ubuntu, including: poor battery life, touchpad does not work, graphics card not fully supported and sucks power when it does (see [here] and [here], for example). Other options on the [wish list] include: the sensible [Acer] (possibly n.1 choice, but not sure about graphics card compatibility or battery), a nice looking [HP Pavilion dv6-6c56ea], which also has incompatibility issues (see [here] and [here] and check ubuntuforums) And another [Acer] which may be best due to its simplicity and cheapness. Other sub-questions: didn't Dell offer Ubuntu support for decent laptops (above 6Gb ram their offerings are scarce); what about pre-installed options such as those provided by System76? If it weren't for the UK keyboard and charger, I'd probably go for this [amazing-looking] [machine]. Many thanks for any advice, P.s.   I replaced a battery in APC SmartUPS by hot-swapping. While the swap was all right and didn't disturb connected computers, the "Battery failed" LED on the front face kept glowing. I tried to use apctest from apcups package. Turned off the daemon and run self test (first changing BATTDATE in EEPROM). The test run fine but didn't clear the REPLACEBATT status or the glowing LED. How to clear the failed battery state without powering the UPS and connected equipment down?

  Has anyone else noticed behavior specific to the HTC Incredible that might result in an app keeping the device awake and busy? I've received reports that my app is responsible for keeping the device awake and draining the battery, but only from HTC Incredible users. My app responds to a number of Intents that might be related. It has a service that starts on boot, and it also responds to changes in network connectivity. I do use a WakeLock, but I'm careful to release it when I'm done processing, and the WakeLock times out after a couple minutes whether I'm done or not. I've heard that the Incredible may have some connectivity problems, or that some of them do. Could it be that the network is going up and down frequently, triggering my app? Any other ideas? I've asked a user to send me their logs with aLogCat. If they're willing, that may help narrow down the cause.

• Issue with Toshiba Satellite C50 A-1JM

  I am having some odd problems with my Toshiba laptop. For the last two days, it has not loaded past the boot screen for hours, if at all. When I force the laptop off and switch it back on, it goes to the Preparing Automatic Repair process but will not complete the process and go to the desktop. However, this only happens when the battery is plugged in. When I remove the battery and run the laptop on power, it works without issue. Would this be a battery issue (given it works without the battery) or a hard drive issue (given it won't get past the boot screen)? If neither, what would you suggest as a solution?

  I've got an oldish D820 that's got a 100% dead battery. I know that I could, in theory, take it apart and replace bad cells in the battery. I'm not really comfortable with doing that. I also know that there are various places that sell replacement batteries for 20% to 80% of the cost that Dell would charge. Does anyone have any experiences with buying more than a couple of these off-brand batteries? If a battery goes boom, it could be really ugly, so I'd rather not risk it, but at the same time, the dell batteries are really expensive... Any opinions on these ebay / off-brand battery vendors?
