  • Show information over image on rollover

    - by Chris
I want to be able to show information (HTML basically) over an image when the mouse rolls over the image... I know there is a .hover() jQuery function but am unsure how to use it to get the desired effect. Ideally when a user hovers over an image it would "grey out" (e.g. layer of 50% opacity black) with some HTML like a title etc etc. Can someone point me in the right direction or provide sample code Thanks

  • Javascript returns Nan in IE, FF ok

    - by user350184
im very new to javascript, and writing this script to add up a shopping cart and print out subtotals and totals. it works in FF but not in IE. this function is called by onclick of one of three select options with a value of 0-25. it is in a js file called in the head. what it does is get the selected values as variables, parseint them, adds and multiplies, and changes the innerHTML of the table to reflect the subtotals, and total. FF does it great, but IE gives Nan. ive tried rewriting it a number of different ways, and many translations still work in FF but not IE8. ive made sure the variables and form id's arent repeated. function gen_invoice() { var scount = parseInt(document.shopcart.studentcount.value, 10); var ycount = parseInt(document.shopcart.youthcount.value, 10); var fcount = parseInt(document.shopcart.facultycount.value, 10); //html output source is 3 selects like this, with diff ids and names: //<select name="studentcount" id="studentcount"> //<option onclick="gen_invoice()" value="0">0 </option></select> var cardcost = parseInt(document.shopcart.cardprice.value, 10); //cardcost comes from hidden input value: //<input type="hidden" id="cardprice" name="cardprice" value="25"> var totalsum = scount + ycount + fcount; var grandtotal = totalsum * cardcost; document.getElementById('s_price').innerHTML = scount * cardcost; document.getElementById('y_price').innerHTML = ycount * cardcost; document.getElementById('f_price').innerHTML = fcount * cardcost; document.getElementById('grand').innerHTML = grandtotal; //.... } ...after this there are 3 long loops for writing out some other forms, but they dont work in IE either because they depend on the selected values to be an integer. this part happens first and returns Nan, so im sure the problem is here somwhere. I have literally hit my head on the table over this. You can imagine how frustrating it is to be able to write the entire rest of the site beautifully, but then fail at adding 3 numbers together. help please!

  • Php dynamic class construction

    - by pistacchio
Hi to all, I'm trying to avoid the use of eval. I can dynamically instantiate a class like this: class myclass {} $my_class_name = 'myclass'; $obj = new $myclass(); If the constructor is like follows: class myclass { public function __construct( $argument1, $argument2 ) {} } and i have the values of the arguments in an array, how can i dynamically instantiate the class and pass it dynamic arguments? Mind that I have no way to modify the class, so I have to work on the way of using it. Thanks

  • At what point in the render process of a web page can we interact with that page

    - by Bamerza
I'd like to measure to distinct user experience points during the rendering of an HTML page: 1) Point which user sees the first painting of the page 2) Point at which user can interact with the page - meaning sees 75% of it or can actually register a button click or link click I am pretty certain these UX interactions can start before the HTML code is fully rendered, so would that instance be the JS func "OnLoad" or some other distinct measureable value/function? If it helps, we can even narrow the answer down to webkit based browsers.

  • jQuery apply functionality only to class and parent elements.

    - by kylex
I have the following list: <ul> <li class="topCurrent">One <ul> <li>One-1 <ul> <li>One-1.1 <ul> <li class="current">One-1.1.1 <ul> <li>One-1.1.1.1</li> <li>One-1.1.1.2</li> <li>One-1.1.1.3</li> </ul> </li> <li>One-1.1.2</li> </ul> </li> <li>One-1.2</li> </ul> </li> <li>One-2</li> <li>One-3</li> </ul> </li> <li>Two <ul> <li>Two-1</li> <li>Two-2</li> </ul> </li> Using the following jQuery: $("ul li ul").hide(); $("ul li").hoverIntent( function(){ $(this).children('ul').slideDown('fast'); }, function(){ $(this).children('ul').slideUp('fast'); } ); What this does is hide all of the ul below the top level ul until there is a hover over it. What I would like to do is this: If an li has a class="current" I would like that structure to be open up until the point that current is hit. It would still allow the ul below it to be displayed on a hover, as well as any other ul's, but at no point would the parents of class="current" be hidden. Suggestions? This problem has been driving me crazy. Thanks!

  • Does F# have an equivalent to Haskell's take?

    - by McMuttons
In Haskell, there is a function "take n list" which returns the first n elements from a list. For example "sum (take 3 xs)" sums up the first three elements in the list xs. Does F# have an equivalent? I expected it to be one of the List-functions, but I can't spot anything that seems to match.

  • Reiterate over a jQuery plugin's this.each()

    - by eth0
Hi, I'm making a plugin and one of the options is a standard callback. I want the user to be able to re-run the jQuery plugin's this.each() which basically re-runs the plugin, for example; callback: function(){ // some code to rerun the plugin here after 10 seconds } I know I can do this like so: $(this).plugin_name(); but it won't contain any of the options I've specified. Any help would be appreciated.

  • How do I programmatically apply a Drupal input filter?

    - by ford
I am currently exporting Drupal data to an external source (XML) programmatically. However, I want the data to run through the site's default Input Format (the filter that runs before user content is displayed on the website) before being written to file. How do I programmatically apply a Drupal input filter? Is there a specific function call or hook for this purpose? If so, links/advice would be most appreciated.

  • How can I strip invalid XML characters from strings in Perl?

    - by AndrewR
I'm looking for what the standard, approved, and robust way of stripping invalid characters from strings before writing them to an XML file. I'm talking here about blocks of text containing backspace (^H) and formfeed characters etc. There has to be a standard library/module function for doing this but I can't find it. I'm using XML::LibXML to build a DOM tree that I then serialize to disk.

  • Cheap and cheerful rand() replacement.

    - by Mick
After profiling a large game playing program, I have found that the library function rand() is consuming a considerable fraction of the total processing time. My requirements for the random number generator are not very onerous - its not important that it pass a great battery of statistical tests of pure randomness. I just want something cheap and cheerful that is very fast. Any suggestions?

  • I cannot get mlocManager.removeUpdates(mlocListener); to work

    - by Colin
I have an app that uses the LocationManage functions which works well until the app is stopped or paused. The location listener function is still carrying on in the background. Relevant bits of code follow. When I click home or back the onstop() function is being triggered correctly. package uk.cr.anchor; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.Context; import android.location.Location; import android.location.LocationListener; import android.location.LocationManager; import android.media.MediaPlayer; import android.media.RingtoneManager; import android.net.Uri; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; import android.widget.EditText; import android.widget.TableRow; import android.widget.Toast; import android.widget.ToggleButton; import android.content.SharedPreferences; import android.graphics.Color; public class main extends Activity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ private LocationManager mlocManager; private LocationListener mlocListener; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); LocationManager mlocManager = (LocationManager)getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE); LocationListener mlocListener = new MyLocationListener(); mlocManager.requestLocationUpdates( LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 0, 0, mlocListener); } @Override protected void onStop(){ stoplistening(); super.onStop(); } /* Class My Location Listener */ public class MyLocationListener implements LocationListener { @Override public void onLocationChanged(Location loc) { loc.getLatitude(); loc.getLongitude(); etc etc etc } private void stoplistening() { if (mlocManager != null) { Toast.makeText( getApplicationContext(), "kill", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT ).show(); mlocManager.removeUpdates(mlocListener); } else { Toast.makeText( getApplicationContext(), " not kill", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT ).show(); } } } I always get the "not kill" message. • Change the key being pressed with C#

    - by Benny
Hey, I'm trying to write a program in C# that will track the pressing of certain keys (using a keyboard hook), and send different ones instead. For instance, when I press the A key it will instead send the Q key. I used http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/CSLLKeyboardHook.aspx this for my hooks and tried to use the SendKeys function, but I get an exception about the garbage collector destroying some object inside the hook class.
