  • Address Label Printing without Windows Address Book

    - by Jim Fell
In the past I've maintained my address book using the built-in Address Book utility that came with Windows. Once each year, I would import my Address Book (.WAB) file into Outlook 2003/XP. (I don't use Outlook for email.) Then I would use the Mail Merge feature in Word 2003/XP to make and print address labels on standard Avery label sheets to simplify address of my Christmas cards. Since I'm now using Windows 7, and the familiar Address Book utility is no longer available, how can I print my address labels? I have both Windows Address Book (.WAB) and Comma-Separated Values (.CSV) files that contain my address book data. So, I guess I need to know two things: Which program or utility (preferably free) can I use to print my address labels. How do I import my address data into that program? If it helps, I am already a user of Gmail and Google Drive. Thanks.

  • Move the Status Bar Web Address Display to the Address Bar

    - by Asian Angel
Is the ability to see the addresses for weblinks the only reason that you keep the Status Bar visible? Now you can hide the Status Bar and move that address display to the Address Bar in Firefox. Before Here is the normal “Status Bar” address display for the weblink we were hovering the mouse over in our browser. That is nice but if you really prefer to keep the “Status Bar” hidden what do you do? Move that display to a better (and definitely more convenient) location. After Once you have the extension installed that is all there is to it…you are ready to go. Notice the address display in “Address Bar”. That is definitely looking nice. Just for fun we temporarily left the “Status Bar” visible as a demonstration while hovering over the link. And then with the “Status Bar” totally disabled…more screen real-estate is always a good thing. Note: The Status Address Bar extension does not show the original address behind shortened URLs. Conclusion If you are looking for an alternate way to see the address behind weblinks and acquire more screen real-estate, then the Status Bar extension will be a wonderful addition to your Firefox Browser. • Global Address List, Multiple All Address Lists in CN=Address Lists Container

    - by Jonathan
When my colleges (that was way before my time here) updated Exchange 2000 to 2003 a English All Address Lists appeared in addition to the German variant. The English All Address Lists have German titled GAL below it. This has just been a cosmetic problem for the last few years. Now as we are in the process of rolling out Exchange 2010 this causes some issues. Exchange 2010 picked the wrong i.e. English Address Lists Container to use. In ADSI Editor we see CN=All Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=exchange org,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain and CN=Alle Adresslisten,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=exchange org,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain. In the addressBookRoots attribute of CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain both address lists were stored as values. We removed the English variant from addressBookRoots and restarted all (old and new) Exchange servers. User with mailboxes on the Exchange 2003 now only sees the German variant. Exchange 2010 is still stuck with the English/Mixed variant as are Users on Exchange 2010. Our goal would be to have Outlook display the German title of All Address Lists and get rid of the wrong Address Lists Container.

  • Regular expression to remove one parameter from query string

    - by Kip
    I'm looking for a regular expression to remove a single parameter from a query string, and I want to do it in a single regular expression if possible. Say I want to remove the foo parameter. Right now I use this: /&?foo\=[^&]+/ That works as long as foo is not the first parameter in the query string. If it is, then my new query string starts with an ampersand. (For example, "foo=123&bar=456" gives a result of "&bar=456".) Right now, I'm just checking after the regex if the query string starts with ampersand, and chopping it off if it does. Example edge cases: Input | Output -------------------------+----------------- foo=123 | (empty string) foo=123&bar=456 | bar=456 bar=456&foo=123 | bar=456 abc=789&foo=123&bar=456 | abc=789&bar=456 Edit OK as pointed out in comments there are there are way more edge cases than I originally considered. I got the following regex to work with all of them: /&foo(\=[^&]*)?(?=&|$)|^foo(\=[^&]*)?(&|$)/ This is modified from Mark Byers's answer, which is why I'm accepting that one, but Roger Pate's input helped a lot too. Here is the full suite of test cases I'm using, and a Perl script which tests them. Input | Output -------------------------+------------------- foo | foo&bar=456 | bar=456 bar=456&foo | bar=456 abc=789&foo&bar=456 | abc=789&bar=456 foo= | foo=&bar=456 | bar=456 bar=456&foo= | bar=456 abc=789&foo=&bar=456 | abc=789&bar=456 foo=123 | foo=123&bar=456 | bar=456 bar=456&foo=123 | bar=456 abc=789&foo=123&bar=456 | abc=789&bar=456 xfoo | xfoo xfoo&bar=456 | xfoo&bar=456 bar=456&xfoo | bar=456&xfoo abc=789&xfoo&bar=456 | abc=789&xfoo&bar=456 xfoo= | xfoo= xfoo=&bar=456 | xfoo=&bar=456 bar=456&xfoo= | bar=456&xfoo= abc=789&xfoo=&bar=456 | abc=789&xfoo=&bar=456 xfoo=123 | xfoo=123 xfoo=123&bar=456 | xfoo=123&bar=456 bar=456&xfoo=123 | bar=456&xfoo=123 abc=789&xfoo=123&bar=456 | abc=789&xfoo=123&bar=456 foox | foox foox&bar=456 | foox&bar=456 bar=456&foox | bar=456&foox abc=789&foox&bar=456 | abc=789&foox&bar=456 foox= | foox= foox=&bar=456 | foox=&bar=456 bar=456&foox= | bar=456&foox= abc=789&foox=&bar=456 | abc=789&foox=&bar=456 foox=123 | foox=123 foox=123&bar=456 | foox=123&bar=456 bar=456&foox=123 | bar=456&foox=123 abc=789&foox=123&bar=456 | abc=789&foox=123&bar=456 Test script (Perl) @in = ('foo' , 'foo&bar=456' , 'bar=456&foo' , 'abc=789&foo&bar=456' ,'foo=' , 'foo=&bar=456' , 'bar=456&foo=' , 'abc=789&foo=&bar=456' ,'foo=123' , 'foo=123&bar=456' , 'bar=456&foo=123' , 'abc=789&foo=123&bar=456' ,'xfoo' , 'xfoo&bar=456' , 'bar=456&xfoo' , 'abc=789&xfoo&bar=456' ,'xfoo=' , 'xfoo=&bar=456' , 'bar=456&xfoo=' , 'abc=789&xfoo=&bar=456' ,'xfoo=123', 'xfoo=123&bar=456', 'bar=456&xfoo=123', 'abc=789&xfoo=123&bar=456' ,'foox' , 'foox&bar=456' , 'bar=456&foox' , 'abc=789&foox&bar=456' ,'foox=' , 'foox=&bar=456' , 'bar=456&foox=' , 'abc=789&foox=&bar=456' ,'foox=123', 'foox=123&bar=456', 'bar=456&foox=123', 'abc=789&foox=123&bar=456' ); @exp = ('' , 'bar=456' , 'bar=456' , 'abc=789&bar=456' ,'' , 'bar=456' , 'bar=456' , 'abc=789&bar=456' ,'' , 'bar=456' , 'bar=456' , 'abc=789&bar=456' ,'xfoo' , 'xfoo&bar=456' , 'bar=456&xfoo' , 'abc=789&xfoo&bar=456' ,'xfoo=' , 'xfoo=&bar=456' , 'bar=456&xfoo=' , 'abc=789&xfoo=&bar=456' ,'xfoo=123', 'xfoo=123&bar=456', 'bar=456&xfoo=123', 'abc=789&xfoo=123&bar=456' ,'foox' , 'foox&bar=456' , 'bar=456&foox' , 'abc=789&foox&bar=456' ,'foox=' , 'foox=&bar=456' , 'bar=456&foox=' , 'abc=789&foox=&bar=456' ,'foox=123', 'foox=123&bar=456', 'bar=456&foox=123', 'abc=789&foox=123&bar=456' ); print "Succ | Input | Output | Expected \n"; print "-----+--------------------------+--------------------------+-------------------------\n"; for($i=0; $i <= $#in; $i++) { $out = $in[$i]; $out =~ s/_PUT_REGEX_HERE_//; $succ = ($out eq $exp[$i] ?   • Progress bar in notification bar

    - by android_dev
Hello everybody, I would like to put a progress bar in the notification bar. The idea is showing the progress bar while the program uploads a file to a server. Everything else is ok, but I can not figure out how to refresh the progress bar inside the notification. Does anybody knows any pattern to play with? I mean, where I should refresh the progress bar, in a service or activity and so. Thanks in advance.

  • Updating a Progress Bar within the Status Bar [migrated]

    - by Muhnamana
I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate a progress bar within the status bar to show how much processing is completed. Below is my example of updating the progress bar (not sure if this is the correct way or not) Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick ToolStripProgressBar1.Value = ToolStripProgressBar1.Value + 2 If ToolStripProgressBar1.Value = 100 Then ToolStripProgressBar1.Value = 0 ToolStripProgressBar1.Value = ToolStripProgressBar1.Value + 2 Timer1.Enabled = True End If End Sub Here is the code within the button. Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1Run.Click ToolStripStatusLabel1.Text = "Processing..." Timer1.Enabled = True 'more code to be inserted here End Sub What I'm not sure is how to update the progress bar based on the amount of code you have and once the processing is complete, update the ToolStripStatusLabel1 to show "Processing...Complete!".

  • Accessing the physical IP address of a computer on my network that is no longer available

    - by floebs
I'm trying to find out how to access the IP address of a computer (macbook pro) that I once had on my network at home. Does terminal store the 'connected' or 'linked' computer ID or IP of a networked computer anywhere that I can access after the laptop is no-longer within range? The laptop was part of my airport extreme network, its now out of range (stolen!), and I would like to know if its possible to discover the physical address of that laptop, even though I no-longer have physical access to the laptop. I have my airport extreme configured (somewhere??) to sniff out that laptop if it comes within range, and then connect to it. Where would this 'configured info' be stored on my desktop?

  • Ubuntu 12.04 : menu bar started to appear on window

    - by piyush
I had some broken package problems, and had to reinstall ubuntu-desktop, libqtgui4 and some other system packages. Since then, "some" of my applications are showing menu bar within the window, like this: Some windows like Emacs, vlc are showing such menu bar, while others are working fine (nautilus, terminal still have menu bar on the unity top panel). Is there a way to get it back to the Unity panel?

  • IP address from a MAC address

    - by acermate433s
I'm writing a class to integrate a POS card reader device to our software. In order for it to work I must know what IP it's using. We were given some sample code by the service provider and the way they do this is they open a website (http://www.ebizchargeemv.com/getip.php?mac={MAC address of device}) and it would return the IP address of the device. The device I'm using is a POSLynx220 Mini. It has an ethernet port that connects to the internet to communicate with the service provider. I send TCP data to it and the device then controls a PIN pad that prompts a client to swipe his card. It's probably a mini computer that communicates with the service provider and uses the PIN pad as its input device. Just being curious but how did they implement this? Are they implementing it using ARP? I'm planning on not using their website to determine the IP of the device. I've seen some code that uses ARP but using executing ARP in one of the PC didn't detect the POS device.

  • Resolving real IP address out of a dynamic dns address

    - by stavnir
I recently opened a dynamic dns user (at no-ip for that matter..) for my own personal needs and especially for ssh-ing my computer whenever I need to, without knowing it's static IP. My questions are: Am I misusing the concept of dynamic dns? Are there more appropriate methods to do what I want to do? If not, how do I resolve my router's real ip address? Firefox somehow manages to do so, nslookup and other similar commands only resolve the ip of the ddns server (e.g. no-ip.org). Trying to figure this mystery with wireshark failed miserably ;)

  • Remove address fields from Mac address book using Applescript

    - by cemregr
Hello, A Facebook Sync app filled the address fields of my Mac Address Book contacts with their cities. Having tons of people who have useless addresses makes it difficult to search by people on Google Maps app (ending up scrolling through many many people- I only want to see those who have proper addresses entered). I want to clear all the home address fields in my address book using applescript. I wrote something small but couldn't get it to work, probably needs some help from somebody who knows applescript :) tell application "Address Book" repeat with this_person in every person repeat with this_address in every address of this_person if label of this_address is "home" then remove this_address from addresses of this_person end if end repeat end repeat end tell I tried to deduct the logic of multiple addresses/phones from other scripts but could only find adding them, not removing them. Thanks! :)

  • Upgrade to Quantal unity top bar, side bar, and window declorations missing

    - by Nicky Bailuc
I upgraded from 12.04.1 to 12.10 via the Update Manager and the upgrade said it completed successfuly. However after rebooting the unity task bar was missing along with the launch bar and the window declorations. All compiz settings seemed to be purge deleted, and at first bootup it gave me a system error. The desktop exists, and once I remember I messed up the compiz settings and just had to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and in the virtual terminal type "unity --reset" then "sudo reboot". Everything worked as if i reinstalled the entire operating system. This time it said “Warning no variable set. setting to :0. The reset option is now dupricated”. What am I suppose to do now? I need this fixed as soon as possible because I need a couple of certainly installed programs and the data within them (long story short).

  • IP address detection for geo-location or MAC address much secure?

    - by SuperRomia
Recent study many websites are using geo-location technology on their Websites. I'm planning to implement one website which can be detect the web visitor more accurate. An found that Mozilla is using some kind of detect MAC address technology in their Geo-Location web service. Is it violate some privacy issue? I believe most of Geo-location service providers only offer country to city level. But the Mac address detection enable to locate the web visitors' location more correctly than using IP address detection. If detect the MAC address is not practical, which geo-location service provider is offering more accurate data to detect my Website visitor around the world?

  • Is it unwise to blacklist an IP address?

    - by hawbsl
We have a form on a commercial website which has been abused (but only once or twice) by someone from a particular IP address. A colleague wants to blacklist that IP address from the website. Seems to me that's overkill, and that there's a risk that genuine customers sharing that same IP address would be blacklisted too. I suppose a big part of my question is how many people might be sharing that same IP address and could be affected by our blacklist. I suspect that's a "how long's a piece of string" question but some ballpark answer would be really helpful. We're in the UK if that's significant.

  • Windows Server 2008: specifying the default IP address when NIC has multiple addresses

    - by Cédric Boivin
I have a Windows Server which has ~10 IP addresses statically bound. The problem is I don't know how to specify the default IP address. Sometimes when I assign a new address to the NIC, the default IP address changes with the last IP entered in the advanced IP configuration on the NIC. This has the effect (since I use NAT) that the outgoing public IP changes too. Even though this problem is currently on Windows Server 2008 How can you set the default IP address on a NIC when it has multiple IP addresses bound? There is more explication on my probleme. • How to distinguish a NY "queens-style" street address from a ranged address, and an address with a u

    - by feroze
I need to distinguish between a Queens style address, from a valid ranged address, and an address with a unit#. For eg: Queens style: 123-125 Some Street, NY Ranged Address: 6414-6418 37th Ln SE, Olympia, WA 98503 Address with unit#: 1990-A Gildersleeve Ave, Bronx, NY. In the case of #3, A is a unit# at street address 1990. THe unit# might be a number as well, for eg: 1990-12. A ranged address identifies a range of addresses on a street, and not a unique deliverable address. So, the question is, is there an easy way to identify the Queens style address from the other cases?

    - by user121134
I have a bootable usb stick that has Ubuntu 12.10 on it, so I loaded it onto my computer which is semi old because it was really full and ubuntu is nice software when it works. And all went well until I booted it up the first time and it said that the Compiz thing was missing and I looked that up on the internet and I must have typed 20 different codes into terminal, and nothing seemed to work. Can you please help? I dont know what to do anymore and the only thing I can do it open up terminal because nothing pops up on the screen. Thanks :)

  • The Differences between MAC Address and Network Layer Address

A Mac address is a fixed number associated with a NICs onboard memory. It is initially assigned at the factory. The MAC address is broken up into 2 parts. The first part is the Block id which is six digit sequences that is unique to each vender. The second section is the device id which is created and assigned by the manufacture. A Network layer address is different because there format based on the type of protocol and network used. Also, there unique id is based on a hierarchal addressing theme on subsets of data  and narrowing it down. Just like in an address you can narrow down your house, for example: Florida, Boca Raton, 33428, SW 53th street states that you live in Florida. You also live in the area located in Florida called Boca Raton and you are also in the area of 33428 which is located in Boca Raton. Finally you live on SW 8th street which is in the area of 33428 which is located in Boca Raton which is also located in Florida.

  • General Address Parser for Freeform Text

    - by Daemonic
We have a program that displays map data (think Google Maps, but with much more interactivity and custom layers for our clients). We allow navigation via a set of combo boxes that prefill certain fields with a bunch of data (ie: Country: Canada, the Province field is filled in. Select Ontario, and a list of Counties/Regions is filled in. Select a county/region, and a city is filled in, etc...). While this guarantees accurate addresses, it's a pain for the users if they don't know where a street address or a city are located (ie, which county/region is kitchener in?). So we are looking at trying to do an address parser with a freeform text field. The user could enter something like this (similar to Google Maps, Bing Maps, etc...): 22 Main St, Kitchener, On And we could compartmentalize it into sections and do lookups on the data and get to the point they are looking for (or suggest alternatives). The problem with this is that how do we properly compartmentalize information? How do we break up the sections and find possible matches? I'm guessing we wouldn't be guaranteed that the user would enter data in a format we always expected (obviously). A follow up to this would be how to present the data if we don't find an exact match (or find multiple exact matches... two cities with the same street name in different counties, for example). We have a ton of data available in the mapping data (mapinfo tab format mostly). So we can do quick scans of street names, cities, states, etc. But I'm not sure about the best way to go about approaching this problem. Sure, using Google Maps would be nice, bue most of our clients are in closed in networks where outside access is not usually allowed and most aren't willing to rely on google maps (since it doesn't contain as much information as they need, such as custom map layers). They could, obviously, go to google and get the proper location then move to our software, but this would time consuming and speed of the process can be quite important.

  • Mail.app doesn't detect sender in Address Book

    - by CoreSandello
Hi there. I don't understand, how does 'smart addresses' in Mail.app work. Recently I mentioned, that for some emails I don't see person's full name in 'From' column. I started to dig into this behavior and found out, that I have few contacts in my Address Book, that are not recognized by Mail.app. Here how it looks: I have a person in Address Book with filled email entry and filled first/last name (localized). I have an incoming email from that person (from email specified in Address Book), but first/last name in the email itself doesn't match with ones specified in Address Book (e. g. 'From' field in email looks like 'John [work] <[email protected]>' while Address Book entry is 'John Smith' (localized, in Russian)). And Mail.app doesn't recognize that this mail is originating from that person in Address Book: if I click on 'From' field, it suggests to me to add sender to Address Book, while for others' emails I have 'Show in Address Book' menu entry (especially for ones with full localized name in 'From' field). I'm wondering, is that behavior correct or I'm missing something? I'm using Snow Leopard & Mail 4.0; my system language set to English, if that matters. I'd like to have some clarifications on that Mail.app behavior: whenever it fixable or not (and if it's fixable, I'd like to see a fix). By the way, is it possible to match sender's address against Address Book entry in filter rules or not? That would be great, if I can create rules like 'move all mail from that person to that folder' without specifying exact source address. Thanks, Ivan.
