  • Trouble installing Lagarith Lossless Codec (Codec Removal?)

    - by Xeoncross
I had been using the Lagarith Lossless Codec with camstudio on Windows XP Pro SP3 for a little while before I switched to Ubuntu. Now I'm back trying to do something on windows and the codec is now missing. I tried to install it via the .exe and even manually with the .inf but it's not being listed by camstudio as installed. I'm wondering if one of the other codecs I installed might have messed with it and yet some of the files are still fine so whatever method the installers use to check for existing files before install is returning positive and not re-installing it. How can I get Lagarith to work again? Maybe I need to know how to uninstall codecs.

  • HDMI Sound Stops Working

    When not used for a few hours the sound stops working on my HTPC. To get sound to work again I have to unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in again When this sound "outage" occurs, the HDMI device dissapears from the sound config output devices I see the following in dmesg [78534.010328] HDMI hot plug event: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=0 [78534.010363] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=0 [78558.948403] HDMI hot plug event: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78558.948429] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=0 [78562.579047] HDMI hot plug event: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=0 [78562.579078] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78562.579992] HDMI hot plug event: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=1 [78562.580043] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78562.876030] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78563.176036] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78563.195139] HDMI hot plug event: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=0 [78563.195169] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=0 [78563.476030] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=0 [78635.529493] HDMI hot plug event: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78635.529524] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=0 [78641.330701] HDMI hot plug event: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=0 [78641.330733] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78641.331649] HDMI hot plug event: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=1 [78641.331668] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78641.628050] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78641.928037] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78642.228042] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78642.528039] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1 [78642.828037] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1

  • WinXP Movie Maker Codec Error

    - by Bob Rivers
Hi, I'm trying to use Windows XP Movie Maker, but when I try to import an AVI video, it shows an error telling me that it wasn't import due to an the fact that the codec wasn't available (I'm able to see the video using the windows media player) First, the error message suggested to enable the option "download codecs automatically" under "tools options general". I did it. But know the error tells me that the codec wasn't available and, if I already installed it, I should reinitialize movie maker. I also already did it... The error msg is: The file D:\movie1.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again. Any hint? TIA, Bob

  • What is some good lossless video codec for recording gameplay?

    - by Don Salva
I'm an avid gamer and I like to record my gameplay. Usually I've been using Fraps to do it, however I'm thinking of switching to Dxtory as it allows to write on multiple HDDs at once. Say I have 3 HDDs with the following write speeds: HDD1 with 50 mb/s, HDD2 with 22 mb/s and HDD3 with 45 mb/s. Combined write speed would be: 117 mb/s. Dxtory allows you to utilize all 3 HDD's at once while recording your gameplay. Using this formula: RGB24 YUV24: Width x Height x 3 x fps = bitrate (byte/sec) YUV420: Width x Height x 3 / 2 x fps = bitrate (byte/sec) YUV410: Width x Height x 9 / 8 x fps = bitrate (byte/sec) And recording in YUV420 colorspace at 1920x1080 with 30 fps I'd need about 95 mb/s write speed. Dxtory is good because it allows me to play with constant 60 fps while recording in 30 fps. Fraps does not (even though they say it does), once you start recording with Fraps, the game's fps drops. So I'm looking for a codec that doesn't need a very high write speed (bitrate) yet records in good (lossless) quality. Dxtory comes with its own codec, the Dxtory codec. Which allows me some experimentation. Fraps has it's own codec which I can use in Dxtory to expirement around. I also came across http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html . Are there more lossless codecs out there (besides Fraps' and Dxtory's) which are good for what I want to do? Edit: To clarify, yes, I'm aware a lossless codec always has "good" quality. But that's not what I'm looking for. Let me take the Fraps codec and Dxtory codec to clarify what I'm looking for. When I record with the Dxtory codec in RGB colorspace at 1920x1080 with targeted 30 fps, I can play the game at 60 fps, BUT I'm recording with 10-15 fps, that's because RGB with Dxtory needs much, much more write speed than my hdd can handle. When recording with Dxtory codec in YUV410 colorspace at 1920x1080 with targeted 30 fps, I can play at 60 fps and record at 30 fps, again, that's because YUV410 in Dxtory's codec takes much, much less write speed than RGB When recording with Fraps codec in ??? (I dunno the color space Fraps records in, I guess YUV420), I can play with 60 fps and record with 30 fps. What I'm looking for is a lossless codec that can record in YUV420 (or even RGB??) which does not exceed a write speed (or bitrate if you will) of 100 mb/s in 1920x1080 or in other words, which will allow me to record in constant 30fps. Obviously the best solution would be to buy an SDD, but that's not what I'm after.

  • unknown codec 0x0064 (G726 ADPCM)

    - by Colin Pickard
    I've got a number of audio recordings which I can't play back. It appears to be a case of a missing codec, but I can't locate the codec in question. VLC will not play the files. ffmpeg gives the error Unsupported codec (id=0) for input stream 0. This is the output from MediaInfo. General CompleteName : Format : Wave FileSize/String : 164 KiB Duration/String : 1mn 24s OverallBitRate/String : 16.0 Kbps Audio Format : ADPCM CodecID : 64 CodecID/Info : G.726 CodecID/Hint : APICOM Duration/String : 1mn 24s BitRate_Mode/String : Constant BitRate/String : 16.0 Kbps Channel(s)/String : 1 channel SamplingRate/String : 8 000 Hz BitDepth/String : 2 bits StreamSize/String : 164 KiB (100%) Can anyone help?

  • Best video codec to store my own collection

    - by Jack
Hello! I think this question has already been asked but with different flavours. My problem resised in the fact that my camera (Canon G9) creates video with almost raw codec (I think it's plain old MPEG) so a 10 minutes video is almost 900mb. I would like to convert them in a format that has a good trade-off between space and quality, but I would prefer having the quality as good as the original (of course this is not possible because of lossy compression) just saving as much space is possible with a minimal lose of quality. Which codec should I look for? H264? It seems to be the champion of the moment.. otherwise which other ones could I try? XviD? Which parameters should I use? I mean how many kbits/s is a fair good bitrate to keep high quality? And what about audio codec? video specs are 640x480 at 30fps or 1024x768 at 15fps.. thanks in advance!

  • One codec to rule them all

    - by AngryHacker
I am streaming videos in my house via Windows Media Player Streaming, which is basically DLNA. So theoretically any DLNA compliant device can pick up the stream. However, I've quickly found that this is only one part of the solution. Over the years I've accumulated a ton of video-capable devices. While all these devices can see the Windows Media Player stream, they all speak in different codecs. And frankly, I am confused by codecs. In the beginning, I thought that the codecs were defined by the filename extension they carried (e.g. avi, mp4, wmv, etc...), but after further research, it looks like the extensions are simply containers. Inside an .avi file could reside several different codecs. So my question is this: is there a format/codec that plays equally well on any device.

  • Codec problem: Video noise / squares blinking as it play

    - by Havenard
Its a weird and intermittent problem, it comes and goes with time. I thought I could fix it rebooting, but it seems that is not always. Take a look: This noise keeps blinking at the screen the entire movie. If I give up and try again an hour from now, it will be fine... weird! I have K-Lite Codec Pack installed, in my machine and many others. Its very cool, everything works perfect... but mine is the only one that does it. Do anybody know whats going on? Edit: Apparently they've just release the very latest version of K-Lite today (lol), with some bug fixes. I'll be testing it. Last time I reainstalled K-Lite the problem was gone, but came back again...

  • ffmpeg: Could not find codec parameters for stream 0 (Video: h264) unspecified size

I try to convert a video from .raw to .mp4. For this reason I did download, build and install both x264 and ffmpeg. However, command: ffmpeg -f h264 -i output.raw -vcodec copy output.mp4 fails with error (shown in picture below). Is there any way to fix this? Commands I also run: 1 root@beagleboard:/# v4l2-ctl --list-formats ioctl: VIDIOC_ENUM_FMT Index : 0 Type : Video Capture Pixel Format: 'YUYV' Name : YUV 4:2:2 (YUYV) Index : 1 Type : Video Capture Pixel Format: 'MJPG' (compressed) Name : MJPEG 2 root@beagleboard:/dev# v4l2-ctl --set-fmt-video=pixelformat=0

  • Codec Problems with trying to edit videos with VirtualDub

    - by Roy Rico
So, I'm a little frustrated. According to this post and various other internet sources, virtualdub is supposed to allow users to quickly split and join video files. I am using windows 7 64 Bit and the latest version of VirtualDub (64-bit). I have tried to edit various movie files, and each attempt at editing various files I have done has not worked for me. AVI file A.avi won't load, saying that it can't located the Decompressor for the "FMP4" format. I have tried this solution and this one, and neither of them work. I have tried setting the VFW Decompressor for 'Other MPEG4' setting to XVID or LIBAVCODEC. There is no change in Virtual Dub. AVI file C.avi will load in Virtual Dub, but any attempt to split it gives me an error that I don't have XVID codecs installed. I've attempted to install the proper codecs (Shark's Windows 7 Codecs, CCCP) with no change. AVI file C.avi will load, and it will split, but won't split using the "Direct Stream Copy" claiming the compression algorithm is incompatible. I tried the "Fast Recompress" option and it created a 27GB file out of what was supposed to be about a 300-400MB file. Can someone please give me some insight into what I'm messing up?

  • Modifying the Codec List Object in an ASF file

    - by scompt.com
Is it possible to modify the Codec List Object in an ASF file? In particular, I would like to edit the codec name and description. I realize that this won't actually change the content of the video, but it's necessary for the video to be verified by an external tool. Does anyone know of a tool that will allow me to do this? If not, does anyone have any suggestions about how I might go about doing it using the Windows Media Format 11 SDK?

  • opencv fails to open avi with ffdshow codec

    - by Seb
Hey everyone, I am currently using OpenCV to try and open an AVI file that was made using ffdshow. The program manages to open the video file and play however, the video file is in black and white and is slightly skewed. VLC and windows media player can run it fine. Is there anything that I am able to do to install the ffdshow codec into OpenCV or do I have to covert each file with ffdshow used into appropriate OpenCV codec formats? Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Where is the Camera Codec feature available in Windows 8?

    - by Rowland Shaw
If you try to install the Camera Codec pack for Windows 7 on Windows 8, you get an error: This version of the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack is not compatible with Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. You can get the codec pack through Windows Update on Windows 8. However, I cannot see anywhere on Windows update that would suggest I can download this, even as an optional update? Is it just the case that it is not yet live, as everything filters through the RTM process, or is it hidden away as something else?

  • ffdshow codec can not work with media play 12 in windows 7 ?

    - by James shen
The reason of this issue is caused by media player 12 (in windows 7 professional) using mircsoft default codec which don't support mp4 decode. The ffdshow codec can not replace microsoft default codec in windows 7 (windows7 does not allow that in default). I find some third party tools can switch media player default codec to ffdshow but this is really inconvenience for our customer. Is there any way I can make a program to switch microsoft default codec to ffdshow codec? Like change some entries in windows registry?

  • Audio codec consuming high battery power

    - by Vamsi Emani
My powertop reports this for the two audio codec components. 4.85 W 100.0% Device Audio codec hwC0D3: Intel 4.85 W 100.0% Device Audio codec hwC0D0: Realtek I think 10 W for audio is too high. Can somebody please suggest me a way to reduce the power consumption? It'd be nice if someone could educate me on this, I have an idea about codecs in general but I have no clue about their internals? Why is it that these two components keep running always even when I am not listening to audio?

  • What is the current state of development for the FLAC codec?

    - by TwentyMiles
I have a pretty large collection of FLAC files created from my CD collection. I love the FLAC format and the sound quality that you can get from it. Lately, however, I've been trying to write a few tools to manipulate the files and I've been noticing what seems to be a stagnation of the community around the codec. Some of the links on the official FLAC page point to thing that are no longer relevant (7digital, for example, appears to no longer sell FLAC encoded songs). It's pretty hard to find hardware players that support FLAC any more (most noticeably it's not present on lower end players when it used to be, and playback is absent on Android). Programming language tools (Java and .NET libraries) are at best old, and at worst unfinished. What's the current state of FLAC development? Has it been replaced by another codec?

  • Codec Pack with that can easily be deployed via group policy

    - by testguy
We have a teacher that has a project for doing some basic film editing with windows movie maker. We loaded the avi file onto the computer and Windows is trying to install a codec but can't. I assume I need to install some type of codec pack. I'm looking for suggestions on a codec pack that I can easily deploy through a Win2003 server to WinXP clients. Ideally, this codec pack shouldn't break anything else and be easily removed if need be.
