  • MS-DOS 6.22 keyboard configuration

    - by AlexV
I have MS-DOS 6.22 in a virtual machine (Virtual PC 2007) and I wanted to properly configure the keyboard. The keyboard I have is a French-Canadian one (FYI in Windows XP my keyboard is labeled "Français (Canada) - Français (Canada)" in the control pannel). What do I need to put in autoexec.bat and config.sys in order to use the keyboard properly (Windows 3.11 will be installed later if it matters)? I haven't configured DOS since like 14 years so all my references are lost/trashed now :)

  • In Dos batch file press ENTER key to open program or press any other key to exit from bat.

    - by user521875
I have a DOS batch file that show some results on the cmd console. I want users to press Enter to run program or press any other key on the keyboard to exit. I don't want to use options/choices because in that case user will have to enter at least something which I need to check and set the action. Example: At the end of the cmd console something say like this Press ENTER to open abc.exe or press any key on the keyboard to exit! Thanks!

  • How to run a powershell script within a DOS batch file

    - by Don Vince
How do I have a powershell script embedded within the same file as a DOS batch script? I know this kind of thing is possible in other scenarios: Embedding SQL in a DOS batch script using sqlcmd and a clever arrangements of goto's and comments at the beginning of the file In a *nix environment having a the name of the program you wish to run the script with on the first line of the script commented out e.g. #!/usr/local/bin/python There may not be a way to do this - in which case I will have to call the separate powershell script from the launching DOS script. One possible solution I've considered is to echo out the powershell script, and then run it. A good reason to not do this is that part of the reason to attempt this is to be using the advantages of the powershell environment without the pain of, for example, DOS escape characters I have some unusual constraints and would like to find an elegant solution. I suspect this question may be baiting responses of the variety: "why don't you try and solve this different problem instead." Suffice to say these are my constraints, sorry about that. Any ideas? Is there a suitable combination of clever comments and escape characters that will enable me to achieve this? Some thoughts on how to achieve this: A carat ^ at the end of a line in DOS is a continuation - like an underscore in VB An ampersand & in DOS typically is used to separate commands echo Hello & echo World results in 2 echos on separate lines %0 will give you the script that's currently running So something like this (if I could make it work) would be good: # & call powershell -psconsolefile %0 # & goto :EOF /* From here on in we're running nice juicy powershell code */ Write-Output "Hello World" Except... It doesn't work... because the extension of the file isn't as per powershell's liking: Windows PowerShell console file "insideout.bat" extension is not psc1. Windows PowerShell console file extension must be psc1. DOS isn't really altogether happy with the situation either - although it does stumble on '#' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

  • Join Domain and Dos App

    - by Austin Lamb
ok, So First off yes i have read all the related topics and those fixs are either out of date or dont work. i am running ubuntu 12.04 and i would like to add it to the win2008 server network, after i get that done i would like to mount the F:\ drive of the server somewhere on my linux machine where it can be identified as Drive F:\ by wine or Dosemu if i can achieve all of that i need to find out how to run a MS-Dos 16-bit Point-of-sales Graphic program in ubuntu whether that be through wine, dosemu, or dosBox. it does not matter it just has to be able to read and write to the servers F: drive, operate the dos app, and support LPt1 (i think) for printing reciepts and loading tickets. i am a decently knowledgeable windows tech, at least thats what my job description says.. but this is my first encounter with linux in a work environment, it could prove to very experience changing if i can just prove it as a practical theory and a reasonable solution, and get it to work.. the first step is to get it joined to the domain. i have likewise-open CLI and GUI versions, samba, and GADMIN-SAMBA installed in attempts to get any of them to work. any help in any area is greatly appreciated, especially with the domain joining since it is the first step and what i thought would be the easiest step..

  • Disable comments in stdout (DOS)

    - by Shadi
If I use Dos command "copy" to concatenate two files: copy a1.txt + a2.txt a.txt I will have something like the following in stdout: C:\a1.txt C:\a2.txt 1 file(s) copied. I do not want to have anything written in stdout, I mean, I just want to have 'a.txt' without those 3 lines written in stdout. Is there any way to do so? the reason is, I need speed and I know that any IO takes time. Thanks, Shadi.

  • Escaping an equals sign in DOS batch string replacement command

    - by Alastair
I need to replace some text in a JNLP file using a DOS batch file to tune it for the local machine. The problem is that the search pattern contains an equals sign which is messing up the string replacement in the batch file. I want to replace the line, <j2se version="1.5" initial-heap-size="100M" max-heap-size="100M"/> with specific settings for the initial and max heap sizes. For example at the moment I have, for /f "tokens=* delims=" %%a in (%filePath%agility.jnlp) do ( set str=%%a set str=!str:initial-heap-size="100M"=initial-heap-size="%min%M"! echo !str!>>%filePath%new.jnlp) but the = in the search pattern is being read as part of the replacement command. How do I escape the equals sign so it is processed as text?

  • Best way to keep a MS DOS application alive? (Virtual MS DOS)

    - by user11010
Hi, I have a good old DOS application which is still required to run. Unfortunately the PC is dying and needs to be replaced. The PC was running Windows 98 and the software was executed in a MS Dos Command line. When we would order a new PC you would at least get a Windows XP which has the Win 2000 (NT) Kernel and is not DOS based. Now I need a strategy to be able to run a that DOS application on a new age PC. What I was thinking is to buy a standard office box and have a virtual PC or VMware setup which is running MS DOS and my DOS application? Would this be a way to go? Any concerns? What about 16Bit/32Bit… So any opinion, experiances or tip would be great …. Thanks

The third party control i am deriving from is marking e.Handled=true; in its command handlers ( i know this cause i have seen the source, but i cant modify it ) What can i do?

  • Add MS-DOS boot option to Windows 2000

    - by Ben Miller
I've got an old laptop that is running Windows 2000 & Windows 98 in a multi-boot configuration. I need to add MS-DOS to that list of startup options. I've already added a primary partition, formatted it for FAT16 and made it bootable, and installed MS-DOS 6.22. My question is, how do I add my MS-DOS partition to the list of startup options? More information: My single hard drive has three primary partitions: 0: FAT32 Windows 2000 1: FAT32 Windows 98 2: FAT(16) MS-DOS 6.22 Currently, the boot-up screen lists Windows 2000 and Windows 98 as options, with Windows 2000 as the default choice. My boot.ini file currently looks like this: [Boot Loader] Timeout=30 Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [Operating Systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect C:\="Microsoft Windows 98"

  • pxe boot dos 7.x / 8.x on modern mainboard without floppy controller

    - by GitaarLAB
How to pxe boot MS DOS 7.x / 8.x on a modern pc (mainboard without floppy controller) without using an external usb floppy drive? MS DOS 6.22 and earlier or other flavors pxe boot just fine on floppy-less hardware. But DOS 7.x and 8.x renders an error on boot: "Type the name of the Command Interpreter (e.g., C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM) I read somewhere during research this was a rather unknown error, that started to become more common due to the advent of floppy-controller-less hardware. On some hardware (bios dependent) one could plug a usb-floppy-drive in the computer before booting (but that MIGHT also require it to be a "golden floppy drive" (as they where called back then). From a russian site (I read about a year ago and cannot find the hyperlink) MS-Dos versions 6.22 did some-kind of floppy-drive reset during initialization and since it couldn't connect to the floppy-host thus the error. How can I resolve this (without a physical external usb floppy)? Might there be some kind of virtual floppy-driver that could resolve this (for example to be loaded before the dos image loads)? Or could someone point me into the right direction (maybe even a hex-address and some further explanation or something)? I'm using syslinux by the way.

  • MS-DOS 7.1, Active-Boot

    - by user3005255
I created a MS-DOS 7.1 (Win 98) active-boot USB-flash stick and it functions properly. Nevertheless I still have some unsolved issues: I want to change my keyboard-layout to german but I don´t know where to start since I only have the "basic-DOS" with IO.sys, MSDOS.sys + command.com. I already created Autoexec.bat + config.sys but don´t know which files I need and which I have to change in order to get a german keyboard. Also I can´t really shutdown my DOS properly, what is the right way to do it in MS-DOS 7.1? Thanks very much in advance for your help!

  • How to access Windows Registry from DOS

    - by SEARAS
How to access Windows Registry from DOS? I need to access registry from DOS, while I boot from DOS bootable disk. I've searched all the internet, and found only Offline NT Password and Registry Editor, which can not be used in DOS, as I understand. Also I've found RegView (from many mirrors), which isn't working too (I've tried many instructions). Is there any easy-in-usage tool, like reg.exe, which is able to load registry hives, so that I can change registry values?? Or any working instructions ?? Note: I already have a bootable drive, which can read/write to NTFS drives. Thanks in advance!

  • Silverlight Commands Hacks: Passing EventArgs as CommandParameter to DelegateCommand triggered by Ev

    - by brainbox
    Today I've tried to find a way how to pass EventArgs as CommandParameter to DelegateCommand triggered by EventTrigger. By reverse engineering of default InvokeCommandAction I find that blend team just ignores event args.To resolve this issue I have created my own action for triggering delegate commands.public sealed class InvokeDelegateCommandAction : TriggerAction<DependencyObject>{    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public static readonly DependencyProperty CommandParameterProperty =        DependencyProperty.Register("CommandParameter", typeof(object), typeof(InvokeDelegateCommandAction), null);    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public static readonly DependencyProperty CommandProperty = DependencyProperty.Register(        "Command", typeof(ICommand), typeof(InvokeDelegateCommandAction), null);    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public static readonly DependencyProperty InvokeParameterProperty = DependencyProperty.Register(        "InvokeParameter", typeof(object), typeof(InvokeDelegateCommandAction), null);    private string commandName;    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public object InvokeParameter    {        get        {            return this.GetValue(InvokeParameterProperty);        }        set        {            this.SetValue(InvokeParameterProperty, value);        }    }    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public ICommand Command    {        get        {            return (ICommand)this.GetValue(CommandProperty);        }        set        {            this.SetValue(CommandProperty, value);        }    }    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public string CommandName    {        get        {            return this.commandName;        }        set        {            if (this.CommandName != value)            {                this.commandName = value;            }        }    }    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    public object CommandParameter    {        get        {            return this.GetValue(CommandParameterProperty);        }        set        {            this.SetValue(CommandParameterProperty, value);        }    }    /// <summary>    ///     /// </summary>    /// <param name="parameter"></param>    protected override void Invoke(object parameter)    {        this.InvokeParameter = parameter;                if (this.AssociatedObject != null)        {            ICommand command = this.ResolveCommand();            if ((command != null) && command.CanExecute(this.CommandParameter))            {                command.Execute(this.CommandParameter);            }        }    }    private ICommand ResolveCommand()    {        ICommand command = null;        if (this.Command != null)        {            return this.Command;        }        var frameworkElement = this.AssociatedObject as FrameworkElement;        if (frameworkElement != null)        {            object dataContext = frameworkElement.DataContext;            if (dataContext != null)            {                PropertyInfo commandPropertyInfo = dataContext                    .GetType()                    .GetProperties(BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Instance)                    .FirstOrDefault(                        p =>                        typeof(ICommand).IsAssignableFrom(p.PropertyType) &&                        string.Equals(p.Name, this.CommandName, StringComparison.Ordinal)                    );                if (commandPropertyInfo != null)                {                    command = (ICommand)commandPropertyInfo.GetValue(dataContext, null);                }            }        }        return command;    }}Example:<ComboBox>    <ComboBoxItem Content="Foo option 1" />    <ComboBoxItem Content="Foo option 2" />    <ComboBoxItem Content="Foo option 3" />    <Interactivity:Interaction.Triggers>        <Interactivity:EventTrigger EventName="SelectionChanged" >            <Presentation:InvokeDelegateCommandAction                 Command="{Binding SubmitFormCommand}"                CommandParameter="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}, Path=InvokeParameter}" />        </Interactivity:EventTrigger>    </Interactivity:Interaction.Triggers>                </ComboBox>BTW: InvokeCommanAction CommandName property are trying to find command in properties of view.   • Makefile for DOS/Windows and Cygwin

    - by Thomas Matthews
I need to have a makefile work under DOS (Windows) and Cygwin. I having problems with the makefile detecting the OS correctly and setting appropriate variables. The objective is to set variables for the following commands, then invoke the commands in rules using the variables: Delete file: rm in Cygwin, del in DOS. Remove directory: rmdir (different parameters in Cygwin and DOS) Copy file: cp in Cygwin, copy in DOS. Testing for file existance: test in Cygwin, IF EXIST in DOS. Listing contents of a file: cat in Cygwin, type in DOS. Here is my attempt, which always uses the else clause: OS_KIND = $(OSTYPE) #OSTYPE is an environment variable set by Cygwin. ifeq ($(OS_KIND), cygwin) ENV_OS = Cygwin RM = rm -f RMDIR = rmdir -r CP = cp REN = mv IF_EXIST = test -a IF_NOT_EXIST = ! test -a LIST_FILE = cat else ENV_OS = Win_Cmd RM = del -f -Q RMDIR = rmdir /S /Q IF_EXIST = if exist IF_NOT_EXIST = if not exist LIST_FILE = type endif I'm using the forward slash character, '/', as a directory separator. This is a problem with the DOS command, as it is interpreting it as program argument rather than a separator. Anybody know how to resolve this issue? Edit: I am using make with Mingw in both Windows Console (DOS) and Cygwin.
