  • Spotlight on an ACE: Edwin Biemond

    - by jeckels
Edwin Biemond is an active member of the ACE community, having worked with Oracle's development tooling and database technologies since 1997. Since then, Edwin has become an expert in many of Oracle's middleware technologies as well, including WebLogic and SOA. In fact, Edwin has become so prolfic that he was named the Java Developer of the Year in 2009. Edwin hails from the Netherlands, where he is an architect at the company Amis, and is also a co-author of the OSB Development Cookbook. He's a proven expert in ADF, JSF, messaging (Edifact / ebXML), Enterprise Service Bus, web services and tuning of application servers and databases. Recently, Edwin posted a blog on the road map of WebLogic 12c, going over salient features and what the future looks like for Fusion Middleware and the Application Server areas - it's well worth a read, so give it a look. A snippet: WebLogic 12.1.3 will be the first version for many FMW 12c products like Oracle SOA Suite 12c and probably come in one big jar. 12.1.3 & 12.1.4 will add extra features and improvements to Elastic JMS & Dynamic Clusters. Elastic JMS in 12.1.3 will support Server Migration so you can’t lose any JMS messages. In 12.1.4, Dynamic Clusters will have support for auto-scaling based on thresholds based on user-defined metrics. WebLogic 12.1.4 will also have an API to control the Dynamic Clusters, this way we can easily program when to stop, start or remove nodes from a dynamic cluster. Further, Edwin is hosting a session on getting your FMW environment up and running in less than 10 minutes using popular tooling to configure and manage the many FMW components you have in your technology stack. Register now for this virtual developer day to see more. We thank Edwin for his commitment to being an ACE, his work on his blog, his social media publishing and his overall commitment to helping other technologists be even more successful with Oracle products. • Start small, grow fast your SOA footprint by Edwin Biemond, Ronald van Luttikhuizen and Demed L’Her

    - by JuergenKress
A set of pragmatic best practices for deploying a simple and sound SOA footprint that can grow with business demand. The paper contains details about Administrative considerations & Infrastructure considerations & Development considerations& Architectural considerations.  Edwin Biemond Ronald van Luttikhuizen Demed L’Her We are very interested to publish papers jointly with our partner community. Here is a list of possible SOA whitepapers that I am very interested in seeing published (note that the list is not exhaustive and I welcome any other topic you would like to volunteer). The format for these whitepapers would ideally be a 5 to 12 pages document, possibly with a companion sample (to be hosted on http://java.net/projects/oraclesoasuite11g ). It is not a marketing stuff. We will get them published on OTN, with proper credits and use social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) to promote them. For information, the "quickstart guide" was downloaded more than 11,000 titles over just 2 months, following a similar approach. These papers are a great way to get exposure and build your resume. We would prefer if we could get 2 people to collaborate on these papers (ideally 1 partner or customer and 1 oracle person). This guarantees some level of peer review and gives greater legitimacy to the paper. If you are Interested? Please contact Demed L’Her Thank you! • Generating an EJB SDO Service Interface for Oracle SOA Suite by Edwin Biemond

    - by JuergenKress
In Oracle SOA Suite you can use the EJB adapter as a reference or service in your composite applications. The EJB adapter has a flexible binding integration, there are 3 ways for integrating the remote interface with your composite. First you have the java interface way which I described here this follows the JAX-WS way. It means you need to use Calendar for your Java date types and leads to one big WSDL when you add a wire to a service component. Read the full article here. • JAX-WS SOAP over JMS by Edwin Biemond

    - by JuergenKress
With WebLogic 12.1.2 Oracle now also supports JAX-WS SOAP over JMS. Before 12.1.2 we had to use JAX-RPC and without any JDeveloper support. We need to use ANT to generate all the web service code. See this blogpost for all the details. In this blogpost I will show you all the necessary JDeveloper steps to create a SOAP over JMS JAX-WS Web Service (Bottom up approach) and generate a Web Service Proxy client to invoke this service, plus let you know what works and what not. We start with a simple HelloService class with a sayHello method. Read the full article here. so while while I'm using SSH to connect my server the backspace shows me bad character. The backspace is the one with question mark. • openmp in mex : stackoverflow error

    - by Edwin
i have got the following fraction of code that getting me the stack overflow error #pragma omp parallel shared(Mo1, Mo2, sum_normalized_p_gn, Data, Mean_Out,Covar_Out,Prior_Out, det) private(i) num_threads( number_threads ) { //every thread has a new copy double* normalized_p_gn = (double*)malloc(NMIX*sizeof(double)); #pragma omp critical { int id = omp_get_thread_num(); int threads = omp_get_num_threads(); mexEvalString("drawnow"); } #pragma omp for //some parallel process..... } the variables declared in the shared are created by malloc. and they consumes with large amount of memory there are 2 questions regarding to the above code. 1) why this would generate the stack overflow error( i.e. segmentation fault) before it goes into the parallel for loop? it works fine when it runs in the sequential mode.... 2) am i right to dynamic allocate memory for each thread like "normalized_p_gn" above? • Open Source Security packages for Rails

    - by Edwin
I'm currently creating a complete web application using Rails 3 to familiarize myself with its inner workings and to gain a better appreciation of a working web application's moving parts. (Plus, since I'm still working on my degree, I hope that it will give me a better idea of what's BS in my education requirements and which weaknesses/skills I should focus on.) The example application I'm working on is an ecommerce site, and I've already configured the backend, routes, controllers, and so on. As part of the application, I'd like to integrate a second layer of security on top of the one Rails already provides for user authentication. However, I've been unable to find any on Google, with the exception of OAuth - which, from my understanding, is meant to secure API calls. While I could roll my own secure authentication system, I'm only in my second year of college and recognize that A) I know little about security, and B) there are developers that know much more about security that are working on open-source projects. What are some actively developed open-source security packages or frameworks that can be easily added to Rails? Pros and cons are not necessary, as I can do the research myself. P.S. I'm not sure whether I posted this in the right SE site; please migrate to SO or Security if it is more appropriate there.

  • Why should you document code?

    - by Edwin Tripp
I am a graduate software developer for a financial company that uses an old COBOL-like language/flat-file record storage system. The code is completely undocumented, both code comments and overall system design and there is no help on the web (unused outside the industry). The current developers have been working on the system for between 10 and 30 years and are adamant that documentation is unnecessary as you can just read the code to work out what's going on and that you can't trust comments. Why should such a system be documented?

  • Creating symlink for Postgres

    - by Edwin
As a developer, I often ssh right into my local database, just to test my application before pushing my code. However, I find that every time I want to access Postgres, I have to type in postgres@ubuntu:~$ /usr/local/pgsql/bin/psql test whereas on my work machine, all I have to do is type postgres@ubuntu:~$ psql --dbname=test --username=user I tried creating a symlink, which was successful, but whenever I try connecting to it through this shortcut, I get the following error message: psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432"? How do I get this to work? In case it makes any difference, I'm using a self-compiled version of the 9.1.x series.

  • How to deal with Character body parts from Design to Cocos2d

    - by Edwin Soho
I'm trying to figure out the pattern the game developers use together with game designers: See the picture below with the independent parts: Questions: 1) Should I create different image parts from different body parts or keep frame by frame animaton? (I know both can be used, but I'm trying to figure what is commonly used in the industry) 2) If I'm going to generate different image parts from different body parts (which is I thing is more logical) how would I export that to Cocos2d (Vector or Bitmap)?

  • Need material for character anatomy in a 2D game. Spartan Like, See Picture

    - by Edwin Soho
I'm creating my art for an 2d based IOS game. I know some basic anatomy as you can see by the picture but I have no idea how I will make draw the pics for animation of the character walking, attacking with his sword and protecting himself with shield. Is there any anatomy reference for 2d game out there, book or anything else? for your information, I did try to find but all of stuff I found are very amateur and incomplete The picture was my attempt of creating a example of the character walking, which I'm not happy with please help, thanks Update: Since I am in a hurry I decided I would copy the anatomy from other 2d games, it is not that clean but at least I wanna be able to start it. The question is still open.

  • "Add correct host key in known_hosts" / multiple ssh host keys per hostname?

    - by Samuel Edwin Ward
Trying to ssh into a computer I control, I'm getting the familiar message: @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @ WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED! @ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE IS DOING SOMETHING NASTY! Someone could be eavesdropping on you right now (man-in-the-middle attack)! It is also possible that a host key has just been changed. The fingerprint for the RSA key sent by the remote host is [...]. Please contact your system administrator. Add correct host key in /home/sward/.ssh/known_hosts to get rid of this message. Offending RSA key in /home/sward/.ssh/known_hosts:86 RSA host key for [...] has changed and you have requested strict checking. Host key verification failed. I did indeed change the key. And I read a few dozen postings saying that the way to resolve this problem is by deleting the old key from the known_hosts file. But what I would like is to have ssh accept both the old key and the new key. The language in the error message ("Add correct host key") suggests that there should be some way to add the correct host key without removing the old one. I have not been able to figure out how to add the new host key without removing the old one. Is this possible, or is the error message just extremely misleading?

  • Advise on VMWare hardware requirements and host OS

    - by edwin.nathaniel
Hi All, I'm a newbie developer wanting to learn a bit about Virtualization (from the IT point of view, not theoretical/academic). What I'd like to do: Prepare a machine Install VMWare or VirtualBox Prepare 3 Guest OSes (one for Win2k8 server, 2 for Ubuntu Server) Win2k8 will run SQL Server 2k8 and IIS (for ASP.NET MVC deployment) 1 Ubuntu Server for Drupal, SugarCRM, MediaWiki, typical LAMP stuff 1 Ubuntu Server for Java (Tomcat/Jetty + MySQL/PostgreSQL) What I'd like to know: What would be the ideal Host OS such that the Host OS should not spend too many resources on itself but should boost these instances of VMs (e.g: does Win2k8 performs better vs Linux?) What would be the ideal machine for this (preferably AMD base chip) I'm not expecting the best performance out of this setup, just a decent one to host one drupal instance, one ASP.NET MVC (future, not now), and one Tomcat/Jetty instance. NB: If you have a better suggestions on the setup, feel free to let me know (e.g: maybe Drupal and Tomcat can be in one instance but move the database to another instance instead of 1 instance map to 1 webserver and 1 dbserver). Thank you.

  • CloudFormation - How to start a Windows Service with cfn-init

    - by Edwin
I'm creating a CloudFormation Stack that will install and start a service on a Windows Instance. I've figured out how to install the service, but how do I start the service using cfn-init? The examples seem to all use linux, as there is a reference to "sysvinit" How do I structure AWS::CloudFormation::Init so that cfn-init will start windows services after installing them? Do I leave in the sysvinit, replace it with something else, take it out? ps: I'm referring to how to start services by providing information to AWS::CloudFormation::Init.services. Also, It would be nice to know how "packages" work for windows. AWS's announcemnet says that packages are supported on Windows but there is no Windows specific documentation

  • Dutch ACEs SOA Partner Community Award Celebration

    - by JuergenKress
When you win you need to celebrate. This was the line of thinking when I found out that I was part of a group that won the Oracle SOA Community Country Award. Well – thinking about a party is one thing, preparing it and finally having the small party is something completely different. It starts with finding a date that would be suitable for the majority of invited people. As you can imagine the SOA ACEs and ACE Directors have a busy life, that takes them places. Alongside that they are engaged with customers who want to squeeze every bit of knowledge out of them. So everybody is pretty busy (that’s what makes you an ACE). After some deliberation (and checks of international Oracle events, Trip-it, blogs and tweets) a date was chosen. Meeting on a Friday evening for some drinks is probably not a Dutch-only activity. But as some of the ACEs are self-employed they miss the companies around them to organize such events. Come the day a turn-out of almost 50% was great – although I expected some more folks . This was mainly due to some illness and work overload.
