  • Using Taylor Polynomials Programmatically in Maple

    - by kzh
I am trying to use a Taylor polynomial programmatically in Maple, but the following does not seem to work... T[6]:=taylor(sin(x),x=Pi/4,6);convert(T[6], polynom, x); f:=proc(x) convert(T[6], polynom, x); end proc; f(1); All of the following also do not work: f:=convert(T[6], polynom); f:=convert(T[6], polynom, x); f:=x->convert(T[6], polynom); f:=x->convert(T[6], polynom, x);. Is there a way of doing this without copying and pasting the output of convert into the definition of f?

  • Using Taylor Series to Avoid Loss of Precision

    - by Zachary
I'm trying to use Taylor series to develop a numerically sound algorithm for solving a function. I've been at it for quite a while, but haven't had any luck yet. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The function is f(x)=1 + x - sin(x)/ln(1+x) x~0 Also: why does loss of precision even occur in this function? when x is close to zero, sin(x)/ln(1+x) isn't even close to being the same number as x. I don't see where significance is even being lost. In order to solve this, I believe that I will need to use the Taylor expansions for sin(x) and ln(1+x), which are x - x^3/3! + x^5/5! - x^7/7! + ... and x - x^2/2 + x^3/3 - x^4/4 + ... respectfully. I have attempted to use like denominators to combine the x and sin(x)/ln(1+x) components, and even to combine all three, but nothing seems to work out correctly in the end. Any help is appreciated.

  • Delphi - Proper way to page though data.

    - by Brad
I have a string list (TStrings) that has a couple thousand items in it. I need to process them in groups of 100. I basically want to know what the best way to do the loop is in Delphi. I'm hitting a brick wall when I'm trying to figure it out. Thanks unit Unit2; interface uses Windows, Messages, SysUtils, Variants, Classes, Graphics, Controls, Forms, Dialogs, StdCtrls; type TForm2 = class(TForm) Memo1: TMemo; Memo2: TMemo; Button1: TButton; procedure Button1Click(Sender: TObject); private { Private declarations } public { Public declarations } end; var Form2: TForm2; implementation Uses math; {$R *.dfm} procedure TForm2.Button1Click(Sender: TObject); var I:Integer; pages:Integer; str:string; begin pages:= ceil(memo1.Lines.Count/100) ; memo2.Lines.add('Total Pages: '+inttostr(pages)); memo2.Lines.add('Total Items: '+inttostr(memo1.Lines.Count)); // Should just do in batches of 100 VS entire list for I := 0 to memo1.lines.Count - 1 do begin if str '' then str:= str+#10+ memo1.Lines.Strings[i] else str:= memo1.Lines.Strings[i]; end; //I need to stop here every 100 items, then process the items. memo2.Lines.Add(str); end; end. • What is the "task" in twitter Storm parallelism

    - by John Wang
I'm trying to learn twitter storm by following the great article "Understanding the parallelism of a Storm topology" However I'm a bit confused by the concept of "task". Is a task an running instance of the component(spout or bolt) ? A executor having multiple tasks actually is saying the same component is executed for multiple times by the executor, am I correct ? Moreover in a general parallelism sense, Storm will spawn a dedicated thread(executor) for a spout or bolt, but what is contributed to the parallelism by an executor(thread) having multiple tasks ? I think having multiple tasks in a thread, since a thread executes sequentially, only make the thread a kind of "cached" resource, which avoids spawning new thread for next task run. Am I correct? I may clear those confusion by myself after taking more time to investigate, but you know, we both love stackoverflow ;-) Thanks in advance.

  • BlackBerry Storm - Cannot scroll vertically while in TreeField

    - by sethxian
I am having issues performing a vertical scroll on the BlackBerry Storm while in a TreeField. The tree nodes expand just fine, even with expanded nodes while in the tree I cannot scroll to the bottom of the expanded list. Sometimes it will scroll a little but then not allow me to scroll back up. Could this be an issue with the screen not being a fixed size? The TreeField is in a VeriticalFieldManager with the VERTICAL_SCROLL and VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR styles. The screen I am using is MainScreen.

  • Storm Trident 'average aggregator

    - by E Shindler
I am a newbie to Trident and I'm looking to create an 'Average' aggregator similar to 'Sum(), but for 'Average'.The following does not work: public class Average implements CombinerAggregator<Long>.......{ public Long init(TridentTuple tuple) { (Long)tuple.getValue(0); } public Long Combine(long val1,long val2){ return val1+val2/2; } public Long zero(){ return 0L; } } It may not be exactly syntactically correct, but that's the idea. Please help if you can. Given 2 tuples with values [2,4,1] and [2,2,5] and fields 'a','b' and 'c' and doing an average on field 'b' should return '3'. I'm not entirely sure how init() and zero() work. Thank you so much for your help in advance. Eli

Well, maybe. I have realised that I have many many ideas and notes for blogs entries dotted around my desk, along with a number of half completed entries that I have been meaning to get sorted and finished and posted. I am hoping that over the next couple of weeks I will be able to get some of these online, including my experineces installing BizTalk 2009 on two different types of environment, some useful utilities I have used and also some notes on issues that I have encountered recently and not so recently when developing BizTalk solutions. If not a storm it may at least drizzle.

IMO, the era of Information Retrieval is dead with the advent of SNS. And the question type is changed from "How many backlinks your site has?" to "How many people have clicked URL you've shared on SNS?". So many people who newbie in Big Data Analytics often asks me "How can I analyze stream data time-series pattern mining methods using Map/Reduce?", "How can I mining the valuable insights using Map/Reduce?", "blah~ blah~ using Map/Reduce?". The answer is No Map/Reduce.

  • VLAN with trunk to avoid broadcast storm in a network with redundant paths

    - by liv2hak
I have 6 Juniper switches (EX - 2200) connected to each other as shown in the network topology. I have two PC's that I am using PC1 - (used for configuring the 6 switches via minicom) PC2 - to monitor the traffic between the switches via the Ports that are marked with arrows in the diagram. STEP 1: I create a new vlan On Switch 3 (SW3) that includes Port 12 and Port 22. I also assign l3-interface to the vlan (vlan_2) with ip address - 192.168.1.7. Now I plug-in Port 0 of Switch 3 on PC2. Now I try pinging 192.168.1.7 from PC2 (192.168.1.10) I want to know what will happen? My postulation is that I will not be able to ping SW3 from PC2.This is because SW3 (Port 12 and Port 22) is a part of a vlan_2 and vlan_2 logically breaks up broadcast domains and so 192.168.1.7 will not be reachable from 192.168.1.10. Now I have an l3-interface on SW1 with IP 192.168.1.1 using default vlan( vlan-id 0). Similarly I have enabled IP on SW2 - 192.168.1.2 SW3 - 192.168.1.3 SW4 - 192.168.1.4 SW5 - 192.168.1.5 SW6 - 192.168.1.6 all using default vlan. I create VLAN2 with the following configuration SW3 - Port 12,Port 22. SW6 - Port 14 I create VLAN3 with the following configuration SW3 - Port 0 SW6 - Port 0 I also configure a VLAN trunk between SW3 and SW6 using the following commands. edit interfaces ge-0/0/12 set unit 0 family ethernet-switching port-mode trunk edit interfaces ge-0/0/12 set unit 0 family ethernet-switching vlan members all There is a redundant path in the network as the loop between SW3 and SW6 is closed. There is no broadcast storm in the network? What is the reason for this? I have not enabled STP or RSTP.still there is no broadcast storm.what is the reason for this. (Please ignore the CISCO symbol on the switches in the diagram. All swithes are Junper EX 22-00.)

  • Is an ACPI GPE storm normal in an Ubuntu session?

    - by Tinellus
In a previous question (What is a an ACPI GPE storm?), I asked about ACPI GPE storm. Looking closer to my kern.log file in /var/log/, I notice that in every session at some point (usually withing 20' after startup) a GPE storm is triggered. When I open kern.log immediately after startup, I see that the 'GPE-storm' can be triggered by anything (a copy-action, the opening of an app like Firefox or Thunderbird, etc...). This worries me. Looking for other ACPI related events in kern.log, I find these error messages. I hope someone can give some advice: Jun 10 16:33:20 Guy-VAIO kernel: [ 0.724505] ACPI FADT declares the system doesn't support PCIe ASPM, so disable it Jun 10 16:33:20 Guy-VAIO kernel: [ 0.795205] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored Jun 10 16:33:20 Guy-VAIO kernel: [ 1.024009] ACPI: Deprecated procfs I/F for battery is loaded, please retry with CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS_POWER cleared Jun 10 16:33:20 Guy-VAIO kernel: [ 23.140259] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI(VGA) defines _DOD but not _DOS There's also a video driver message that worries me, don't know if it's related though: Jun 10 16:33:20 Guy-VAIO kernel: [ 23.162154] fglrx: module license 'Proprietary. (C) 2002 - ATI Technologies, Starnberg, GERMANY' taints kernel. Jun 10 16:33:20 Guy-VAIO kernel: [ 23.162158] Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint As mentioned in my previous question, I'm experiencing frequent (several times /d) application crashes, that seem random, with apport messages being sent, and less frequent (once a week or so) complete system freezes where the system becomes unresponsive to keyboard, mouse or touchpad input and the only solution is a hard reboot (press start button) My questions: what about the Firmware Bugs in ACPI? how and where do I have to 'clear CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS_POWER'? what does it mean when fglrx 'taints the kernel', is it serious and what could I do about it? • Temporary boot problem after thunder storm - likely causes?

    - by alastairs
The village where I live was sat under a thunder cloud for most of Friday, and we suffered a few power fluctuations (specifically, what seemed to be split-second outages). When I got back home from work, I found that my PCs had shut down during one of these outages. When I went to boot one of them back up, I couldn't get anything to display on screen, nor did the boot seem to complete correctly. I tried a number of things - unplugging different bits of hardware, swapping graphics adaptors, etc. - to no avail. I thought I was looking at a fried motherboard or CPU. Power seemed to be distributed correctly to the peripherals (the drives all appeared to be working) so I figured it couldn't be the PSU. Eventually I unplugged it from the mains and left it overnight (approx 12hrs unplugged). I tried it again this morning, and it booted up correctly. Woo-hoo! I have all my equipment protected by surge-protected power strips, so I don't think a spike caused these problems. Obviously it has something to do with the power fluctuations, and maybe the PSU in the problem machine got itself confused somehow. The questions are, for future reference and to help people with similar problems: What are the likely causes of the boot failure I experienced? Is a UPS a simple and cost-effective solution, or might other things help prevent this happening in future? What UPS can you recommend (my budget is limited)?

  • Consuming all touchEvents not preventing scrolling on the blackberry storm

    - by Some guy with a headache
Hello, I am trying to make a custom control for the BlackBerry Storm using SDK v5.0. This control needs to disable scrolling while the user is dragging elements within a field. The problem is that even if I my control consumes every single touch event send to it, when the user lifts their finger off the screen it still flings up or down as if its finishing a scroll action. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this from happening or what I might be doing wrong ? Thank you.

  • Blackberry storm 9530 tracing touch events while scrolling

    - by SWATI
    hey in my screen there is a an edit field and 2 custom button fields as "OK" and "CANCEL" Below buttonfield there are some more focussable label fields when i write a name in edit field and press enter then focus comes to "OK" button but how to set focus on "CANCEL" button. Moreover while scrolling the focus does not automatically move ahead??? what to do may be i m confused with touch events and their handling!!! Kindly help!!!!!!!!!!!! Code: txt_Name = new EditField(TextField.NO_NEWLINE) { public void paint(net.rim.device.api.ui.Graphics g) { g.setColor(Color.MAROON); super.paint(g); } }; txt_Name.setFont(font); v1 = new VerticalFieldManager(); v1.add(txt_Name ); ButtonField btn1 = new ButtonField("OK",ButtonField.CONSUME_CLICK); ButtonField btn2 = new ButtonField("CANCEL",ButtonField.CONSUME_CLICK); v2 = new VerticalFieldManager(); v2.add(btn1); v2.add(btn2); LabelField l1 = new LabelField("Hello Moon ",Field.Focussable); LabelField l2 = new LabelField("Hello Citizen",Field.Focussable); LabelField l3 = new LabelField("Hello People",Field.Focussable); LabelField l4 = new LabelField("Hello world",Field.Focussable); v3 = new VerticalFieldManager(); v3.add(l1); v3.add(l2); v3.add(l3); v3.add(l4); add(v1); add(v2); add(v3); } protected boolean navigationClick(int status, int time) { if(OK.isFocus()) { //execute some code return true; } if(CANCEL.isFocus()) { //execute some code return true; } }

  • Disabling Submit Button in ASP.NET 3.5 Application with JavaScript breaks BlackBerry submission

    - by ahsteele
The following code is being used to disable a Submit button once it has been clicked. This works great on desktop browsers and most BlackBerry mobile browsers. Submit.Attributes.Add("onclick", "javascript:this.disabled=true;" + ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(Submit, null)); Unfortunately, when using a BlackBerry Storm clicking the submit button causes the device to just reload the page. If I remove this code the Storm browser submits the page just fine. I need to disable the button when the browser is capable of doing so but do not want to affect browsers that are not JavaScript capable. I realize I could add the jQuery framework and only attach the event client side, but am trying to look for the simplest fix (read least intrusive) as this is a legacy application. Any suggestions?

  • Need help programming with Mclauren series and Taylor series!

    - by user352258
    Ok so here's what i have so far: #include <stdio.h> #include <math.h> //#define PI 3.14159 int factorial(int n){ if(n <= 1) return(1); else return(n * factorial(n-1)); } void McLaurin(float pi){ int factorial(int); float x = 42*pi/180; int i, val=0, sign; for(i=1, sign=-1; i<11; i+=2){ sign *= -1; // alternate sign of cos(0) which is 1 val += (sign*(pow(x, i)) / factorial(i)); } printf("\nMcLaurin of 42 = %d\n", val); } void Taylor(float pi){ int factorial(int); float x; int i; float val=0.00, sign; float a = pi/3; printf("Enter x in degrees:\n"); scanf("%f", &x); x=x*pi/180.0; printf("%f",x); for(i=0, sign=-1.0; i<2; i++){ if(i%2==1) sign *= -1.0; // alternate sign of cos(0) which is 1 printf("%f",sign); if(i%2==1) val += (sign*sin(a)*(pow(x-a, i)) / factorial(i)); else val += (sign*cos(a)*(pow(x-a, i)) / factorial(i)); printf("%d",factorial(i)); } printf("\nTaylor of sin(%g degrees) = %d\n", (x*180.0)/pi, val); } main(){ float pi=3.14159; void McLaurin(float); void Taylor(float); McLaurin(pi); Taylor(pi); } and here's the output: McLaurin of 42 = 0 Enter x in degrees: 42 0.733038-1.00000011.0000001 Taylor of sin(42 degrees) = -1073741824 I suspect the reason for these outrageous numbers goes with the fact that I mixed up my floats and ints? But i just cant figure it out...!! Maybe its a math thing, but its never been a strength of mine let alone program with calculus. Also the Mclaurin fails, how does it equal zero? WTF! Please help correct my noobish code. I am still a beginner...

  • How to make a general profile for PHPUnit testing in WebIDE?

    - by Ondrej Slinták
I'm playing a bit with beta version of PHP Storm (PHP version of WebIDE) and its integration of PHPUnit. I know how to set a profile to run tests in particular file, directory or class. Problem is, I'd like to create some profile where Run button would run tests in currently opened file. Any idea if there's a way to do it? Or perhaps it isn't implemented in beta version yet?

  • What image format is fastest for BlackBerry?

    - by Ed Marty
I'm trying to load some images using Bitmap.getBitmapResource(), but it takes about 2 or 3 seconds per image to load. I'm testing on the Storm, specifically. The odd thing is, when I install OS 5.0, the loading goes in a snap, no delay at all. Should I be looking at the format used? Or where the files are stored? I've tried both 24- and 8-bit PNGs, with transparency. The files are stored in a subdirectory in the COD, so getBitmapResource is passed a path, like "images/img1.png" instead of just "img1.png". Is any of this making things slower?
