• Lenovo Ideapad 205 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

  I just wanted to report one thing, because I know there are a lot of Ideapad S205 users out there, that had issues running Ubuntu on their Lenovo Ideapad S205 in the past. Lenovo Ideapad with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS: Everything works out of the box. I just installed it and everything, including the microphone, the webcam, the WLAN, the AMD E-350 CPU/GPU and the sound worked right away. In other words: Everything works. Even the AMD E-350 GPU works very well with the Open Source drivers and with the prop. drivers. The prop. drivers were automatically offered to me via Ubuntu itself. It works great. A long idea, written short: I love it. It's extremly stable and very fast. I am using the German version of the Idepad S205, combined with the 32bit version of Ubuntu. There is only one, single thing to keep in mind when installing Ubuntu on the S205: Plugin your USB/CD/DVD drive in the left USB-Port. I don't know why, but it only works with the USB-Port on the left side of the Netbook. This is only for installing Ubuntu. • Proprietary AMD driver freezes my Ideapad

  I got this problem that I can't figure out what to do about. On Ideapad s205 with Ubuntu 12.04* (64), if I install Catalyst Centre 12.1 or newer it Freeze (lock's up), 1-3 times a day. It doesn't suffer freezing when using Radeon driver, but Radeon driver are considerably slower and flickers, so I would really prefer the proprietary driver (with no freezing). I reported the bug to launchpad but it doesn't get attention. -Also tried Ubuntu forums. Reported bug to AMD bug site "http://ati.cchtml.com/", but I don't think anybody reads it. Wrote AMD support several times, but get silly answers like "reinstall Windows". -Asked them to send the bug to Linux driver developers, but never heard a thing (more than once). The same nothing happens when writing to the feedback link from AMD driver download site. I'm so frustrated here, any advice would help. Thanks (*The same on Ubuntu 11.10)

  I'm looking for some notebook that will run on Ubuntu perfectly. I like LENOVO IdeaPad Z570, but I'm not sure how it will perform on Ubuntu. I heard people are complaining about wireless problems. Any problems noted? I heard there is a test suite, how can I install it? Maybe I can boot live CD and try it myself before buying it. But, unfortunately, sometimes something works on live CD, but not when you install it. I guess critical components here are graphics and wireless. Any feedback would be appreciated.

  I recently installed Ubuntu 13.10, and thought I properly set things up to dual boot into Windows 8, but I continually get .efi errors when I attempt to boot into Windows 8. I installed Boot-Repair and used that to run the recommended fixes. It provided additional boot options within the GRUB2, but none (other than Ubuntu) are working. • How can i enable my bluetooth and set-up its adapter config in my Ideapad S100

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 in my Ideapad S100 it look seem perfect after I installed it, but when i tried to connect my phone via bluetooth, i cannot enable the slide button in the Bluetooth setting and it keeps returning back to "OFF" and the visible button is also in Disable mode. I already tried other solution like installing Blueman, re-write code such as rfkill bluetooth and this echo disable /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth. It still doesn't work at all, and regarding to my Wi-Fi i don't have any issue on it.

  please help me fix these problems because i really like ubuntu 12.04 and i have replaced my windows 7 ultimate for this everytime i turn on my ideapad it hangs, but when i insert my usb device that i used for the installation and restart my ideapad, it works. How can i open my lenovo without my usb device? my keboard doesn't work. i pressed each key and none of it work. those are the first two problems, i haven't tried the microphone, speaker and webcam yet because I really hate that i can't even type a single letter. please do fix this problem.

• Black Screen on boot on a Lenovo IdeaPad Z575

  So I tried to install Wubi. On boot, when I select Ubuntu it starts then I get a purple screen then black screen. My monitor is like completely off. So then I have to hold down my power button and shut it off. I boot it up then held shift and typed in "nomodeset" after the second to last line, but then when it boot it went into the command prompt thing and just stopped after "checking battery" or something. This is my first time installing any linux distro. I want to install it alongside windows and dual boot it with wubi because that is easy and simple.   I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and there is a problem with the touchpad. Whenever I lift my finger from the touchpad or click, the cursor moves a little bit to a random direction which makes me miss the target I wanted to click. • Help identifying device and driver for 0bda:1724

  I've got a new Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13. The onboard lan/bluetooth device is identified in Linux as 0bda:1724 (via lsusb). No network peripherals are reported from lspci. From the interwebs, the vendor:product above looks to be RT2573, however, in Windows, the device is identified as RTL8723A. Unfortunately, I have followed both roads, trying rt2500usb, rt2x00usb, and rtl8723e. I have emailed Realtek asking them for help but so far my email has fallen on deaf ears. • Lenovo u400, Ubuntu 12.04. Sudden reboots / power down

  I've recently bought a Lenovo u400 (http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/ideapad/u-series/u400/) and installed Ubuntu 12.04 on it. Everything works fine (I've installed the proprietary ATI drivers for switchable graphics) except that I get a random power down or reboot either while surfing the web or watching videos. Monitoring the temperature with sensors, the laptop never goes into any critical zone but still may power down or reboot once in a while. Is there any logs that I should check and any particular message I should take note of? EDIT: This happens to me as well. This also happens without proprietary drivers activated.

• Y560 Lenovo IdeaPad bandwidth issue

  I have a Y560 Lenovo IdeaPad, my config: i7 740QM, 4GB RAM, RADEON HD 6570m/5700 1024MB and my network adapter is Intel WIFI Link 5150. The laptop is 2 years old and the problem I'm about to describe is present from the first day. As may be seen here, the receive bandwidth should be up to 300 Mbps, but the maximum download speed from LAN and using torrents is about 2.4MB/s. My internet connection is 100Mbps and other laptops in my house have the appropriate download speed - up to 12MB/s, I have tested at my friends house and at my job, the speed remains the same. I have tried all possible configurations I could think of in network settings - nothing helps. I use Windows 7 and I have had installed different versions (Ultimate, Professional, Home, OEM Home, 64 and 32 bit versions). Some time ago I searched for the problem and found one or two threads that had the same problem and there were something said about a limitation in firmware that some experienced users have managed to bypass. Updating drivers didn't help me either. Is there any reliable way to fix this?

• Lenovo Ideapad Y480 can't reinstall windows?

  Alright, so here's the deal... For a while, I wanted to mess with Linux. I don't know why, but I wanted to. So, what I did was use WUBI and install Ubuntu. Because of some unknown reason (Intel Rapid Start? Half the drivers being on a Lenovo-installed SSD [separate from the main hard drive]?) it wouldn't dual boot. So, I decided to use Linux Mint instead, and install it in a partition. Since Windows 7 Home Premium won't make partitions any more if you have a certain number already, I just shrank my system drive and left empty space for the installer to claim. When I installed Mint, it worked, but left my Windows 7 installation unable to boot and eventually it corrupted. I tried to use a system repair disc I burned earlier but it didn't find the Windows installation, so I assume the partition corrupted. I used this link:http://www.pcworld.com/article/248995/how_to_install_windows_7_without_the_disc.html to try and reinstall Windows. What happened was that originally it said that the partition I was trying to reinstall from had been locked down by the OEM (Lenovo). So, I went into GParted, wiped EVERYTHING, and selected 'Construct new Boot record' or whatever that function is, and now the error is: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information." Does anyone know how to see the log files? Can anyone help? This system is a month old but the warranty only covers hardware failures, and I would need to pay around USD$60 for them to fix it. Please help. Any ideas? this is my main machine... Extra information: I have at my disposal: System Repair Disc (Burned myself) Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1 installation disk (burned from the pcworld links) Gparted Live CD Linux Mint 13 live cd A system backup (from the morning before this catastrophe) made using the Windows Backup and Restore. I put it on an external drive...that should be safe for now.

  I recently took a step into Linux on my Lenovo Idea pad U410; after a couple hours I managed to get it installed with the drivers. However now I no longer have the ability to access the BIOS. I tried the usual FN+F2, F2,F1,Del,Tab,F12,F11; all to no avail. I was wondering is there something different to be done running Ubuntu? I know that the BIOS would generally not be affected by the OS. Does anyone have any suggestions?

So, I wanted to know if the Lenovo One Key Recovery mechanism is capable of restoring the Windows 7, from the hidden recovery partition, after I install Ubunutu and enable Grub boot loader? Note: I am already aware that an alternative would be to create Factory Restore disks, to restore when necessary. But I cannot immediately do it unless I buy an External DVD Burner.

• Lenovo S10 Ideapad will not boot while original hard drive is installed, neither from hard drive or

  Hello, first time posting here so I'll try to be very clear. I have a Lenovo S10 Ideapad netbook which fails to boot to an OS. It shows the Lenovo splash screen and can get to the BIOS but it doesn't get to GRUB (was dual booting Ubuntu 9.10 and Win 7, was working fine for months, ie this isn't a new dual boot gone bad). After the splash screen it displays a flashing cursor in the upper left corner. Power cycled to no avail. Here is what I have done trying to narrow the problem down: The machine will boot to Ubuntu using an install/live USB drive, but only if ANOTHER hard drive is installed or NO hard drive is installed. The boot order always lists USB first. Also, there is a 2 gb RAM upgrade but I think that's fine; the Ubuntu USB drive boots fine with it, and "free" sees the whole 2gb of memory. So it seems like the hard drive is bad. I was able to put the bad drive in a different laptop and mount it to recover files. I'm ready to replace the bad hard drive, but I would like to know if this situation makes any sense. If the hard drive is bad, shouldn't I still be able to boot with the Ubuntu USB drive while the bad drive is installed? I would have expected the machine to boot into Ubuntu anyway even if with a bad drive, since the boot order lists USB first. But it seems that when the bad drive is installed, the machine ignores the USB drive and hangs with the flashing cursor. Thanks for any ideas! Sorry for the long post, I just want to put all the info I have up front! Basically I'm going to buy a new drive, but I am mostly curious if this is a typical or at least not unusual situation.

  Is there wifi finder program for windows 7 that can let me choose specific access points to connect to? In my school, the wifi network uses the same SSID for numerous access points and usually the default wifi finder in Windows 7 connects to the first one. Even if it connects to the closest one with the best signal, there are times when a specific access point will not work. Machine: Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 running Windows 7 (32bit) Note: On my ThinkPad, I've got access connection that does the job but that didn't seem to work on the IdeaPad the last time I tried.

• Intel Rapid Start Driver Reinstallation doesn't work?

  I recently had to reformat my entire drive and reinstall Windows 7. Something that bothers me is that when I was downloading the Intel Rapid Start driver (I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y480, and it comes standard with the Rapid Start) and tried to install it, the installer claimed that my system did not meet the requirements in order to install, when it was previously installed by the OEM. My startup times have increased from 21 seconds to log-in screen to 50 seconds. Please help... • Disable Ethernet permanently to speed up boot time

It seems to me that, Ubuntu is always trying in boot time to check the network via eth0, Which consumes some times and I guess this may slow down the boot process a bit. • rsync'd a folder, folder doesn't show up, but free disk space decreased

  I am currently trying to switch from mac to windows/ubuntu dual boot (on 2 seperate internal HDDs), but ran into some trouble restoring my documents. I am not sure all the information below is necessary, but if I knew how to solve it, I wouldn't ask it here. I backed up my mac before buying this laptop on an external HDD with Carbon Copy Cloner. I wanted to put these files on my user folder on my windows HDD, but I could not do that from inside windows (HFS+ format of mac), so I used rsync from inside Ubuntu to copy the documents from the ext hdd to the windows partition. It seemed like it went okay, but from inside windows (and later also Ubuntu) the folder didn't show up.
