  • How the yin-yang puzzle works?

    - by Hrundik
I'm trying to grasp the semantics of call/cc in Scheme, and the Wikipedia page on continuations shows the yin-yang puzzle as an example: (let* ((yin ((lambda (cc) (display #\@) cc) (call-with-current-continuation (lambda (c) c)))) (yang ((lambda (cc) (display #\*) cc) (call-with-current-continuation (lambda (c) c)))) ) (yin yang)) It should output @\*@\**@\**\*@\**\**@..., but I don't understand why; I'd expect it to output @\*@\**\**\**\**\*... Can somebody explain in detail why the yin-yang puzzle works the way it works?

  • Problem with develop of XML Schema based on an existent XML

    - by farhad
    Hello! I have a problem with the validation of this piece of XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <i-ching xmlns="http://www.oracolo.it/i-ching"> <predizione> <esagramma nome="Pace"> <trigramma> <yang/><yang/><yang/> </trigramma> <trigramma> <yin/><yin/><yin/> </trigramma> </esagramma> <significato>Questa combinazione preannuncia <enfasi>boh</enfasi>, e forse anche <enfasi>mah, chissa</enfasi>.</significato> </predizione> <predizione> <esagramma nome="Ritorno"> <trigramma> <yang/><yin/> <yin/> </trigramma> <trigramma> <yin/><yin/><yin/> </trigramma> </esagramma> <significato>Si prevede con certezza <enfasi>qualcosa</enfasi>, <enfasi>ma anche <enfasi>no</enfasi></enfasi>.</significato> </predizione> </i-ching> This XML Schema was developed with Russian Dolls technique: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://www.oracolo.it/i-ching" targetNamespace="http://www.oracolo.it/i-ching" > <xsd:element name="i-ching"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element name="predizione" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="64"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element name="esagramma"> <xsd:complexType> <!-- vi sono 2 trigrammi --> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element name="trigramma" minOccurs="2" maxOccurs="2"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:sequence minOccurs="3" maxOccurs="3"> <xsd:choice> <xsd:element name="yang"/> <xsd:element name="yin"/> </xsd:choice> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> </xsd:sequence> <xsd:attribute name="nome" type="xsd:string"/> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> <!-- significato: context model misto --> <xsd:element name="significato"> <xsd:complexType mixed="true"> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element name="enfasi" type="xsd:string" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"/> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> </xsd:schema> For exercise I have to develop an XML Schema to validate the previous XML. The problem is that oxygen says me this: cvc-complex-type.2.4.a: Invalid content was found starting with element 'predizione'. One of '{predizione}' is expected. Start location: 3:6 End location: 3:16 URL: http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-1/#cvc-complex-type why? is it something wrong with my xml schema? thank you very much

  • Friday Fun: Play Tetris in Google Chrome

    - by Asian Angel
Do you prefer playing classic games rather than the newer ones? Then get ready for some classic goodness with the JC-Tetris extension for Google Chrome. JC-Tetris in Action When you click on your new “JC-Tetris Toolbar Button” a new mini-Chrome window will open with the game displayed inside. This could be very convenient for those who would like or need to pause the game, minimize the window, and finish the game later. All that is needed to play are the four “Arrow Keys & the Space Bar”. Note: The text was small when the window first opened during our test so we used the “Ctrl +” keyboard shortcut twice to enlarge it. You may or may not experience similar text size results. Like any Tetris game things start out “quietly enough” but this one speeds up quickly, so be prepared! Notice that you do get a warning of what is waiting to drop onto the game board on the left side. Whenever you complete a game you will see this small window asking if you would like to enter a name for the score…you can easily ignore/bypass the window by clicking “Cancel”. Another game and a much better result. Do not be surprised if you feel that little burst of “rushed panic” at the end! Conclusion JC-Tetris is an enjoyable way to relax when you need a break. The ability to pause the game and minimize it for later makes it even better. Have fun! • Webservice returns java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException

    - by Damian
Hi, I am receiving the above message when making a request to a java webservice. We originally created a Java Console application and manually submitted an xml file. When running this as a Java Application the response is successfully created and displayed by using System.out.println. We are creating the web service by selecting the java file that contains the methods and choosing "create webservice" specifying the dynamic project that the webservice is to be created in and the methods to be exposed. What the application is doing is taking an xml file and unmarshalling this to an object using: public static Object unmarshalToObject(Class classToBeBound, String xmlRequest) { Object obj = new Object(); try { JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance(classToBeBound); Unmarshaller um = jc.createUnmarshaller(); obj = um.unmarshal(new StringReader(xmlRequest)); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace() } return obj; } Some processing is carried out on the file and then an object is marshalled to xml as follows: public static String marshalToXML(Object data) { StringWriter sw = new StringWriter(); try { logger.info("Create new Marshall"); JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance("ContextPathName"); logger.info("Marshalled to xmlObjects"); Marshaller marshaller = jc.createMarshaller(); marshaller.setProperty(Marshaller.JAXB_FORMATTED_OUTPUT, true); marshaller.setProperty(Marshaller.JAXB_FRAGMENT, true); marshaller.marshal(data, sw); } catch (Exception e) { logException(logger, e); } return sw.toString(); } The following is the line of code that seems to be causing an issue as the logger displays the message prior to this: JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance("ContextPathName"); The webservice never gets to the next line - the following is the body of the SOAP message: <soapenv:Fault> <faultcode>soapenv:Server.userException</faultcode> <faultstring>java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException</faultstring> <detail> <ns1:hostname xmlns:ns1="http://xml.apache.org/axis/">servername</ns1:hostname> </detail> </soapenv:Fault> I have added Try/Catch around this section of code even as far as looking for JAXBExceptions but this does not seem to catch anything - nor does the general exception. This issue does not occur when running the console application. The build path for this includes the following contents of sun\jwsdp-2.0\jaxb\lib: jaxb-api.jar jsr173_1.0_api.jar jaxb-impl.jar I have added these to the lib folder in the WEB-INF file of the dynamic project. I am running the webservice in JBuilder 2008 R2 and using SOAPUI to submit the request - this points to the wsdl generated when creating the webservice. If anyone has any help or ideas on how to solve this could they please reply - thanks for taking the time to read this post!

  • Change language encoding for file uploading

    - by jc.yin
Previously we were running a Wordpress site on a Mac OS Server machine. We had several hundred images with Chinese characters for the image names. Now we're trying to migrate to a Ubuntu system and everything is fine except the images. Every time I try to upload an image with a Chinese name via FTP, I get the following message: "MyImage contains illegal characters. Please choose an appropriate text encoding" I have no idea how to solve this issue, do I need to somehow change the system language encoding in Ubuntu to allow for image uploading? Thanks

  • In Eclipse, how to open a file browser in the directory of the currently edited file

    - by JC
Hi, I know it's possible in eclipse to open file browsers from your project's resource browser, but is it possible for files that aren't part of your project ? Typically external includes are not found in your resource browser... If there is the equivalent of $(resource_loc) for the editor, it would work.. But I wasn't able to find it. Can anyone help me on this ? thanks! JC EDIT : I Found StartExplorer, but it's a joke of a plug-in. It is hardcoded to use WINDOWS explorer or cmd.exe. Also, it still requires you to use the resource browser. Other than that it can open paths selected in the editor, but they must be full paths.

  • Selecting fields in SQL Select statements (Dumbest SQL Question)

    - by JC
Hello all, Here's a dumb question which I can't find an answer to: I have a table which contains 20 fields, a few of which are date/time. I am interested in pulling all the fields. I would like to pull the datetime fields using the to_char function but don't want to individually list out all the other fields. Is there an easy way to do this? I tried select *, tochar(dtfield) as dt2 and select tochar(dtfield) as dt2, * and both give errors. Thanks for all your help! JC

  • Changing Palette for Day/Light Mode using GIMP

    - by J.C.
Hello, Suppose I've a picture, which want to achieve day/light mode by changing 8bpp color palette. If I want the pixel index of my picture is always fixed for both day mode and night mode. For example, the 1st pixel index is 100. Which I can look up index 100 in day mode palette and night mode palette. How can I use GIMP to do so? My goal is to not update my pixel index of my picture. Also, as you see in two palette, they are not one one mapping. That is index 1 of the day mode palette and index 1 of the night mode palette may not used in the same pixel of the picture, how can I tackle this problem? Actually, my use case is as follow I want to use one 8bpp picture to achieve day/night mode by update only the color palette (without updating the pixel index). The advantage is I only have to prepare 2 256 byte palette rather than saving 2 big pictures in my limited data ram. Thanks a lot

  • How do I prevent having to log in on 3 separate prompts every time I start my machine?

    - by JC
Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, Ubuntu Classic desktop Each time I start my machine, I have to log in 3 times. I spent a week in IRCFreenode#ubuntu and got nothing but condescension. I've searched on the official Ubuntu fora for similar problems, tried every recommendation, and still get 3 login screens. As a workaround, I have reset login such that I get a login screen at startup, which I'd prefer not to get since this machine is accessible by no one but me, physically. I have gone into System Preferences Passwords and Encryption Keys, set first 'Passwords: default' to 'Default' and unlocked it, and unlocked the 'Passwords: login' key, too. Next, since that changed nothing, I set 'Passwords: login' to 'Default', and checked to make sure it was still unlocked. Again, no change, still get 3 login prompts at startup. I've checked twice to insure that I am the owner of the files; I am. At the suggestion of several people in #ubuntu, I've deleted first one, then the other password key in 'Passwords and Encryption Keys'. Still get 3 login prompts. I changed from the Unity desktop to Ubuntu Classic. While that didn't fix the above problem, it is a much more elegant desktop than Unity, and I'll keep it. From what I've read, this seems to be a Seahorse issue, but beyond that, no one seems to have a solution that works. I'm lost. This shouldn't be this difficult or annoying. I'm trying to help our local Old Time music collective get their machines switched over to Ubuntu in order to save them some money which they can use to promote their DRM-free music. But from what I've seen of Ubuntu so far on my own machine, I can't really recommend that they make this switch. I hope to be proved wrong on that point. But as it stands, if I was out of town or out of country and they ran into a problem, they'd have no way of fixing it as they're all less experienced than even I am. I'm not trying to cast aspersions on Ubuntu or Linux, but it seems pretty clear that KNOWLEDGEABLE, HELPFUL support for Ubuntu is lacking barring any desire on the problem-experiencing-user's part to avoid condescension. Having worked with, and run, several non-profits over the past 20 years, I know that getting volunteers to act professionally can be like herding cats. But an organization's reputation can be denigrated by sarcastic behaviors on the part of those who serve, effectively, as its public face. Thank you all for your help and support. Now...does anyone have a solution to my problem?

  • Multiplayer Network Game - Interpolation and Frame Rate

    - by J.C.
Consider the following scenario: Let's say, for sake of example and simplicity, that you have an authoritative game server that sends state to its clients every 45ms. The clients are interpolating state with an interpolation delay of 100 ms. Finally, the clients are rendering a new frame every 15ms. When state is updated on the client, the client time is set from the incoming state update. Each time a frame renders, we take the render time (client time - interpolation delay) and identify a previous and target state to interpolate from. To calculate the interpolation amount/factor, we take the difference of the render time and previous state time and divide by the difference of the target state and previous state times: var factor = ((renderTime - previousStateTime) / (targetStateTime - previousStateTime)) Problem: In the example above, we are effectively displaying the same interpolated state for 3 frames before we collected the next server update and a new client (render) time is set. The rendering is mostly smooth, but there is a dash of jaggedness to it. Question: Given the example above, I'd like to think that the interpolation amount/factor should increase with each frame render to smooth out the movement. Should this be considered and, if so, what is the best way to achieve this given the information from above?

  • Visual studio debug console sometimes stays open and is impossible to close

    - by JC
Hey, Sometimes when I run an application from Visual Studio and it crashes or I stop it using the stop button in the debug menu (Debug-Stop Debugging (Shift-F5)), the console of said application stays open... and never closes. I cannot close it by clicking the 'x' button in the top right corner. I cannot kill the process as it is not even listed in taskmgr. I have seen this problem documented in different places on the web, but no solution so far. I am running on windows XP SP3, using visual studio 2008 w/ SP1. 1- What could be causing this ? 2- Is there a fix ? thanks alot. JC EDIT: There is no MyApp.vshost.exe process to close, and closing visual studio does not close the console either. Worse even, if I try to restart my computer windows will hang and never close, I need to do a forced shut down. EDIT #2 : (from Brad Sullivan, Program Manager - Visual Studio Debugger on March 2nd) [...] this issue is likely not in Visual Studio since it also occurs in scenarios where Visual Studio is not present. We are in the process of handing over our investigation to the Windows Servicing team. But for now, removing the KB978037 update and it's related files seems to work.

  • Create 301 Redirection in Amazon Route 53 for Wildcard Subdomains

    - by Eric Yin
My domain name hosted on Route 53 DNS. Amazon has a guide to do 301 redirection for www. To naked domain by point www. version to a S3 static website with 301 setted up. My question is, how can I have *.domain.com all have 301 redirec to naked domain name. I guess either: Some way to get all wildcard subdomains end up into one S3 bucket, how? Or: Use CloudFront on the www. version S3 site and put wildcard subdomains on the CloudFront, but how? Or: There's some hidden settings just lies on Router 53, then where? Or: use EC2, better not suggest me this, too costing for this task. Please advice.

  • Ubuntu - Upgrade to 10.4 - general error mounting filesystems

    - by JC Denton
Hello All, Using upgrade manager I upgraded my 8.x LTS installation to 10.4. After rebooting the system failed encountered an error and dropped into the recovery console. It appeared to be a problem caused by ureadahead as described here: http://ubuntuguide.net/howto-fix-ureadahead-problem-after-upgrading-to-ubuntu-10-04. So I renamed ureadahead.conf to ureadahead.moved (after remounting the partition rw). this did not help so I renamed the file back again. After rebooting the following error appears: ureadahead terminated with status 5. udev_monitor_new_from_netlink: error getting socket: Invalid Argument mountall:mountall.c:3204 assertion failed in main: udev_monitor = udev_monitor_new_from_netlink(udev,"udev") init: mountall main process (2532) killed by ABRT signal. • Linksys WRT54GC v2.0 - all connection lights flashing

    - by JC Denton
I have just received a Linksys WRT54GC router of a friend. Apperantly it has stopped working. All lights on it are flashing apart from the power and wireless light. I have read of similar issues online but not ones describing the same set of lights flashing. I have tried connecting to the device over ethernet but failed. It's no longer accessible over wireless either. I've also tried to run the linksys utility on the cd but it failed to detect the presence of the device (attempted over ethernet, firewall switched off). I've tried pressing the reset button for 30 seconds and disconnection the power cable for 30 seconds but to no avail. Thanks for any thoughts

  • Dismount USB External Drive using powershell

    - by JC
Hello, I am attempting to dismount an external USB drive using powershell and I cannot successfuly do this. The following script is what I use: #get the Win32Volume object representing the volume I wish to eject $drive = Get-WmiObject Win32_Volume -filter "DriveLetter = 'F:'" #call dismount on that object there by ejecting drive $drive.Dismount($Force , $Permanent) I then check my computer to check if drive is unmounted but it is now. The boolean parameters $force and $permanent have been tried with different permutations to no avail. The exit code returned by the dismount command changes when the params are toggled. (0,0) = exit code 0 (0,1) = exit code 2 (1,0) = exit code 0 (1,1) = exit code 2 The documentation for exit code 2 indicates that there are existing mount points as a reason why it cannot dismount. Although I am trying to dismount the only mount point that exists so I am unsure what this exit code is trying to tell me. Having already trawled the web for people experiencing similar problems I have only found one additional command to try and that is the following: # executed after the .Dismount() command $drive.Put() This additional command does not help. I am running out of things to try, so any assistance anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

  • Hard drives (SATA/ATA) corrupting

    - by JC Denton
Hello All, 2 years ago I bought relatives a new computer for christmas and installed Ubuntu on it. Ever since then it has been experiencing problems with the hard drives. The hard drive supplied with the machine was a SATA drive. When it appeared it was having problems (files and folders with invalid encoding started appearing) I replaced the SATA drive with the drive of their previous computer. I replaced it (The replacement) later on, the drive being rather old and thus becoming more prone to the risk of failure. The replacement drive is a IDE drive but the same problems started to appear (files and folders showing up in nautilus with invalid encoding). I fear the files and folders that are showing are existing FS entries, starting to corrupt. As it's happening to both the IDE and SATA drive it's unlikely to be the drives themselves or the IDE/SATA controller, I believe. Any ideas as to what could be causing the (assumed) corruption? EDIT: You're right about the paragraphs. They were there in edit mode but I'm still getting to grips with the whitespace format codes. The system is a "Primo Pro" AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 920 2.80GHz SILENT DDR2, ordered from overclockers.co.uk and nothing has been added to it except for the replacement of the SATA drive with an AMD drive. It would seem unlikely for a barebones system to be underpowered.

  • Considering building a new system; but undecided about chassis

    - by J.C. Bengtson
I'm considering a new system build, and was thinking that this particular motherboard has features I need and like: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=667651&pagenumber=1&RSort=1&csid=ITD&recordsPerPage=5&body=REVIEWS#CustomerReviewsBlock .. but am unsure which model chassis to pair it with. I'd strongly prefer something from Cooler Master, as I'm a fan of their products, but am having a hard time deciding, and also don't want to get into some odd situation where the board doesn't properly fit. I plan on having two optical drives (5.25"), two internal HDs (3.5"), and will likely go with an SLI setup of 2 or possibly even 3 cards, so I'd need a chassis that is roomy enough to accomodate all of that, as well as the motherboard itself. Based on the stock available at that same site, do you all have any suggestions? The larger, the better, as I hate having components crammed together. Your help is most appreciated!

  • Matching monitors

    - by JC
Does anyone know a good matching monitor setup for multiple displays? Looking for 1920 x 1200 with IPS panel as the main screen and some 1600 x 1200 monitor for the side but no single manufacturer seems to make monitors that match like this. Do you all just deal with the resolution and size differences in multi setups or has anyone found decent IPS panel setups that match (size / vertical resolution)? Three 1920x1200 seems like overkill, that's why I was looking for 4:3 monitors for the sides.
