• Ivy resolve not working with dynamic artifact

- by richever
I've been using Ivy a bit but I seem to still have a lot to learn. I have two projects. One is a web app and the other is a library upon which the web app depends. The set up is that the library project is compiled to a jar file and published using Ivy to a directory within the project. In the web app build file, I have an ant target that calls the Ivy resolve ant task. What I'd like to do is have the web app using the dynamic resolve mode during development (on developer's local machines) and default resolve mode for test and production builds. Previously I was appending a time stamp to the library archive file so that Ivy would notice changes in file when the web app tried to resolve its dependency on it. Within Eclipse this is cumbersome because, in the web app, the project had to be refreshed and the build path tweaked every time a new library jar was published. Publishing a similarly named jar file every time would, I figure, only require developers to refresh the project. The problem is that the web app is unable to retrieve the dynamic jar file. The output I get looks something like this: resolve: [ivy:configure] :: Ivy 2.1.0 - 20090925235825 :: http://ant.apache.org/ivy/ :: [ivy:configure] :: loading settings :: file = /Users/richard/workspace/webapp/web/WEB-INF/config/ivy/ivysettings.xml [ivy:resolve] :: resolving dependencies :: com.webapp#webapp;[email protected] [ivy:resolve] confs: [default] [ivy:resolve] found com.webapp#library;latest.integration in local [ivy:resolve] :: resolution report :: resolve 142ms :: artifacts dl 0ms --------------------------------------------------------------------- | | modules || artifacts | | conf | number| search|dwnlded|evicted|| number|dwnlded| --------------------------------------------------------------------- | default | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 || 0 | 0 | --------------------------------------------------------------------- [ivy:resolve] [ivy:resolve] :: problems summary :: [ivy:resolve] :::: WARNINGS [ivy:resolve] :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: [ivy:resolve] :: UNRESOLVED DEPENDENCIES :: [ivy:resolve] :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: [ivy:resolve] :: com.webapp#library;latest.integration: impossible to resolve dynamic revision [ivy:resolve] :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: [ivy:resolve] :::: ERRORS [ivy:resolve] impossible to resolve dynamic revision for com.webapp#library;latest.integration: check your configuration and make sure revision is part of your pattern [ivy:resolve] [ivy:resolve] :: USE VERBOSE OR DEBUG MESSAGE LEVEL FOR MORE DETAILS BUILD FAILED /Users/richard/workspace/webapp/build.xml:71: impossible to resolve dependencies: resolve failed - see output for details The web app resolve target looks like this: <target name="resolve" depends="load-ivy"> <ivy:configure file="${ivy.dir}/ivysettings.xml" /> <ivy:resolve file="${ivy.dir}/ivy.xml" resolveMode="${ivy.resolve.mode}"/> <ivy:retrieve pattern="${lib.dir}/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" type="jar" sync="true" /> </target> In this case, ivy.resolve.mode has a value of 'dynamic' (without quotes). The web app's Ivy file is simple. It looks like this: <ivy-module version="2.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://ant.apache.org/ivy/schemas/ivy.xsd"> <info organisation="com.webapp" module="webapp"/> <dependencies> <dependency name="library" rev="${ivy.revision.default}" revConstraint="${ivy.revision.dynamic}" /> </dependencies> </ivy-module> During development, ivy.revision.dynamic has a value of 'latest.integration'. While, during production or test, 'ivy.revision.default' has a value of '1.0'. Any ideas? Please let me know if there's any more information I need to supply. Thanks!

• Ivy and Snapshots (Nexus)

- by Uberpuppy
Hey folks, I'm using ant, ivy and nexus repo manager to build and store my artifacts. I managed to get everything working: dependency resolution and publishing. Until I hit a problem... (of course!). I was publishing to a 'release' repo in nexus, which is locked to 'disable redeploy' (even if you change the setting to 'allow redeploy' (really lame UI there imo). You can imagine how pissed off I was getting when my changes weren't updating through the repo before I realised that this was happening. Anyway, I now have to switch everything to use a 'Snapshot' repo in nexus. Problem is that this messes up my publish. I've tried a variety of things, including extensive googling, and haven't got anywhere whatsoever. The error I get is a bad PUT request, error code 400. Can someone who has got this working please give me a pointer on what I'm missing. Many thanks, Alastair fyi, here's my config: Note that I have removed any attempts at getting snapshots to work as I didn't know what was actually (potentially) useful and what was complete guff. This is therefore the working release-only setup. Also, please note that I've added the XXX-API ivy.xml for info only. I can't even get the xxx-common to publish (and that doesn't even have dependencies). Ant task: <target name="publish" depends="init-publish"> <property name="project.generated.ivy.file" value="${project.artifact.dir}/ivy.xml"/> <property name="project.pom.file" value="${project.artifact.dir}/${project.handle}.pom"/> <echo message="Artifact dir: ${project.artifact.dir}"/> <ivy:deliver deliverpattern="${project.generated.ivy.file}" organisation="${project.organisation}" module="${project.artifact}" status="integration" revision="${project.revision}" pubrevision="${project.revision}" /> <ivy:resolve /> <ivy:makepom ivyfile="${project.generated.ivy.file}" pomfile="${project.pom.file}"/> <ivy:publish resolver="${ivy.omnicache.publisher}" module="${project.artifact}" organisation="${project.organisation}" revision="${project.revision}" pubrevision="${project.revision}" pubdate="now" overwrite="true" publishivy="true" status="integration" artifactspattern="${project.artifact.dir}/[artifact]-[revision](-[classifier]).[ext]" /> </target> Couple of ivy files to give an idea of internal dependencies: XXX-Common project: <ivy-module version="2.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://ant.apache.org/ivy/schemas/ivy.xsd"> <info organisation="com.myorg.xxx" module="xxx_common" status="integration" revision="1.0"> </info> <publications> <artifact name="xxx_common" type="jar" ext="jar"/> <artifact name="xxx_common" type="pom" ext="pom"/> </publications> <dependencies> </dependencies> </ivy-module> XXX-API project: <ivy-module version="2.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://ant.apache.org/ivy/schemas/ivy.xsd"> <info organisation="com.myorg.xxx" module="xxx_api" status="integration" revision="1.0"> </info> <publications> <artifact name="xxx_api" type="jar" ext="jar"/> <artifact name="xxx_api" type="pom" ext="pom"/> </publications> <dependencies> <dependency org="com.myorg.xxx" name="xxx_common" rev="1.0" transitive="true" /> </dependencies> </ivy-module> IVY Settings.xml: <ivysettings> <properties file="${ivy.project.dir}/project.properties" /> <settings defaultResolver="chain" defaultConflictManager="all" /> <credentials host="${ivy.credentials.host}" realm="Sonatype Nexus Repository Manager" username="${ivy.credentials.username}" passwd="${ivy.credentials.passwd}" /> <caches> <cache name="ivy.cache" basedir="${ivy.cache.dir}" /> </caches> <resolvers> <ibiblio name="xxx_publisher" m2compatible="true" root="${ivy.xxx.publish.url}" /> <chain name="chain">
<ivy pattern="${ivy.xxx.repo.url}/com/myorg/xxx/[module]/[revision]/ivy-[revision].xml" /> <artifact pattern="${ivy.xxx.repo.url}/com/myorg/xxx/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" />
<ibiblio name="xxx" m2compatible="true" root="${ivy.xxx.repo.url}"/> <ibiblio name="public" m2compatible="true" root="${ivy.master.repo.url}" />
<ivy pattern="http://repository.springsource.com/ivy/bundles/release/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" /> <artifact pattern="http://repository.springsource.com/ivy/bundles/release/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" />

<ivy pattern="http://repository.springsource.com/ivy/bundles/external/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" /> <artifact pattern="http://repository.springsource.com/ivy/bundles/external/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" />
</chain> </resolvers> </ivysettings>

• Ivy deletion of unwanted (older) artifacts from Ivy cache

- by John M
I have a local Artifactory repository in which I have two jars for commons-logging: one for version 1.0.4 and one for version 1.1.1. I'm experimenting with using Ivy to download the older one with an ant task (with the proper dependency tag in ivy.xml), and then I change the "rev" attribute of this dependency tag to 1.1.1. When using ivy:resolve in ant, this newer jar gets successfully downloaded to my cache, but the older one is not deleted automatically, and I'd like to make this happen. I can't figure out how to do so after looking at the Ivy documentation; does anyone know how to get Ivy to delete old versions of artifacts when newer ones are downloaded, either with the resolve task or something else?

• Resolving SNAPSHOT dependencies with timestamps from Ivy

- by bradhouse
I am attempting to resolve timestamped SNAPSHOT dependencies with Ivy. The environment is Ant + Ivy 1.2.0 + Archiva. Archiva itself is populated from Maven2 builds. Ivy is only used to resolve dependencies (from a single, non Maven2 project). How can Ivy be configured to correctly resolve timestamped artifacts from an Archiva or m2 repository? For reference my current configuration is: ivysettings.xml looks similar to: <ivysettings> <settings defaultResolver="archiva-chain"/> <resolvers> <chain name="archiva-chain" changingPattern=".*SNAPSHOT" checkmodified="true"> <ibiblio name="archiva-internal" m2compatible="true" usepoms="true" pattern="[organization]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" root="http://host:port/archiva/repository/internal"/> <ibiblio name="archiva-deploy" m2compatible="true" usepoms="true" pattern="[organization]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" root="http://host:port/archiva/repository/deploy"/> <ibiblio name="archiva-snapshots" m2compatible="true" usepoms="true" pattern="[organization]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" root="http://host:port/archiva/repository/snapshots"/> </chain> </resolvers> </ivysettings> The ivy.xml dependencies are simple: <ivy-module version="2.0"> <info organisation="com.myorg" module="myapp"/> <dependencies> <dependency org="com.myorg" name="myartifact" rev="1.8.0-SNAPSHOT" changing="true"/> </dependencies> </ivy-module> Ivy does not attempt to resolve a timestamped artifact. • Proxy settings with ivy...

- by user315228
Hi, I have an issue where in I have defined dependancies in ivy.xml on our internal corporate svn. I am able to access this svn site without any proxy task in ant. While my dependencies resides on ibiblio, that’s something outside our corporate, and needs proxy inorder to download something. I am facing problem using ivy here: I have following in build.xml <target name="proxy"> <property name="proxy.host" value="xyz.proxy.net"/> <property name="proxy.port" value="8443"/> <setproxy proxyhost="${proxy.host}" proxyport="${proxy.port}"/> </target> <!-- resolve the dependencies of stratus --> <target name="resolveTestDependency" depends="testResolve, proxy" description="retrieve test dependencies with ivy"> <ivy:settings file="stratus-ivysettings.xml" /> <ivy:retrieve conf="test" pattern="${jars}/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]"/> </target> <target name=" testResolve "> <ivy:settings file="stratus-ivysettings.xml" /> <ivy:resolve conf="test" file="stratus-ivy.xml"/> </target> Following is the excerpt from stratus-ivysettings.xml <resolvers <ivy-module version="1.0"> <info organisation="org.apache" module="chained-resolvers"/> <dependencies> <dependency org="commons-lang" name="commons-lang" rev="2.0" conf="default"/> <dependency org="checkstyle" name="checkstyle" rev="5.0"/> </dependencies> </ivy-module> <ivysettings> <settings defaultResolver="chained"/> <resolvers> <chain name="chained">
<ivy pattern="http://my.internal.domain.name/ivy/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/ivy-[revision].xml"/> <artifact pattern="http://my.internal.domain.name/ivy/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]"/>

<artifact pattern="http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/maven2/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" />
<ibiblio name="ibiblio" m2compatible="true"/> </chain> </resolvers> </ivysettings> <ivy-module version="1.0" xmlns:m="http://ant.apache.org/ivy/maven"> <info organisation="checkstyle" module="checkstyle" revision="5.0" status="release" publication="20090509202448" namespace="maven2" > <license name="GNU Lesser General Public License" url="http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt" />
Checkstyle is a development tool to help programmers write Java code that adheres to a coding standard
</info> <configurations> <conf name="default" visibility="public" description="runtime dependencies and master artifact can be used with this conf" extends="runtime,master"/> <conf name="master" visibility="public" description="contains only the artifact published by this module itself, with no transitive dependencies"/> <conf name="compile" visibility="public" description="this is the default scope, used if none is specified. However, when attempting to exclusively use the "custom-repo" or "ibiblio-mirror" resolvers, I am able to resolve my project's two explicitly defined dependencies, but not checkstyle's dependencies. Is this possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Issues using ivy

- by Almas
Hi, I am new bie to ivy. I am using packager resolver and that packager resolver resolves the zip file, unzip it, extracts the jar file from it in temp build file, but it stays temporarily and only the jar file which i specified as a module name gets copied to destination rest of all are ignored. Is there a way i can get all the jar files? I use preseverBuildDirectories but is there a better way to do it? Also is it possible for me to publish an artifact to svn using normal ivy? I got error while i was trying to use ivy 2.1.0 on XP using ant 1.8.0 java.illegalArguementException saying authorization failed. Is there a way i can work through ivy:publish? Is there a way i can use ivy variable in packager.xml? Thanks in advance, Almas

• Ivy failed to resolve dependency : What to check, what to do ?

- by fardon57
Hi everyone, I'm using Ivy to resolve dependency in my very small project. It's the first time I'm doing that and it's more to learn as my project is very small. I had a problem 5 minutes ago, when trying to download log4j. My configuration is very basic, I have an ant task : <target name="resolve" description="--> retrieve dependencies with ivy"> <ivy:retrieve/> </target> and my Ivy.xml file is like this : <dependency org="javax.servlet" name="servlet-api" rev="2.5" /> <dependency org="log4j" name="log4j" rev="1.2.15" /> </dependencies> The problem is seems to happen when ivy tries to download jms 1.1 (I suppose it's needed for log4j) as I can see in the console : : ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: [ivy:retrieve] :: FAILED DOWNLOADS :: [ivy:retrieve] :: ^ see resolution messages for details ^ :: [ivy:retrieve] :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: [ivy:retrieve] :: javax.jms#jms;1.1!jms.jar [ivy:retrieve] :: com.sun.jdmk#jmxtools;1.2.1!jmxtools.jar [ivy:retrieve] :: com.sun.jmx#jmxri;1.2.1!jmxri.jar [ivy:retrieve] :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Is there anything I can do ? Thanks a lot guys. F

• Problem compiling hive with ant

- by conandor
I compiling with Solaris 10 SPARC, jdk 1.6 from Sun, Ant 1.7.1 from OpenCSW. I have no problem running hadoop 0.17.2.1 However, I have problem compiling/integrating hive with the error 'cannot find symbol', although I followed the tutorial. I have the hive source code from SVN exactly from tutorial. How can I know the hive version I compiling and how can I compile against hadoop 0.17.2.1? Please advice. Thank you. -bash-3.00$ export PATH=/usr/jdk/instances/jdk1.6.0/bin:/usr/bin:/opt/csw/bin:/opt/webstack/bin -bash-3.00$ export JAVA_HOME=/usr/jdk/instances/jdk1.6.0 -bash-3.00$ export • Ant-Ivy-Scala Template: any suggestions on improvements?

- by luigi-prog
I just created a template project for Scala using Ant and Apache Ivy. I want to get the communitie's input on any improvements to the Template so it can be improved. The Environment effectively consists of 3 files: build.xml ivy.xml ivysettings.xml running ant init will create all needed directories. I was wondering if there are any Ant or Apache Ivy gurus around that could give some input. The Git Project is Located Here And the Project HomePage here

• 6-core Sandy Bridge-E vs. 4-core Ivy Bridge

- by Alexander Ilyin
I am currently choosing between Intel Core i7-3770 (quad, Ivy) and Intel Core i7-3930K (6 cores, Sandy Bridge-E). This machine will be used for both work (Adobe, Autodesk software, graphic and coding-related) and gaming. Even if some applications I will use are capable to utilize all 6 cores at once, is it worth preferring Sandy Bridge-E to newer Ivy Bridge? Games aren't and probably will perform better on Ivy, won't they? 6-core is also twice as expensive as a quad Ivy.

• ant cpptask with ivy

- by AC
A company I am working for, has some c binaries build with ant using cpptask. They use ivy to retrieve shared c libraries every time we start a build which wastes a significant amount of time comparing the revisions and downloading, when then only need to be download if the header files have changed. I have added a target which sets a var, which causes the build to skip over the ivy steps but I'd like a better solution. I see that cpptask creates a file history.xml and only rebuilds to binary if any of the sources have change. I'd like to know if there is way to independently test if the binary needs to build, and it does, I'd like it fire off the ivy targets. I'd also like for a variable to be set if the binary was rebuilt so that I can conditionally start an rpm generation task

• Manage duplicate jar files using ant and ivy.

- by lawardy
HI, I am using ant build script to build my java app and utilizing Ivy to manage its dependency. As my application is dependent/subset of other application(Main App), when running it, I set the classpath to point to lib jars of the Main App. As I tried to build the kit using ant and ivy, it includes/retrieve all the jars that is required as specified in ivy.xml The problem is, some of the jar files are duplicated with with jars file in the main app folders. Is there a way to set the classpath in build.xml to ignore retrieving jar files that already exist in the main app's lib folder. Thanks

• ivy dependency on external JAR

- by Misha Koshelev
Dear All: I am battling with Ivy (I tried maven but had an event more difficult time setting up the JBoss repository for Hibernate). Quick question - I am using this wonderful package: http://ooweb.sourceforge.net/index.html Unfortunately, the JAR is only available through Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ooweb/files/ooweb/0.8.0/ooweb-0.8.0-bin.tar.gz/download Is there a way to get Ivy to download a specific JAR? For that matter, is it possible to do with Maven? Thank you! Misha

• Managing conflicting ivy repositories (in eclipse)

- by Stephen
I've got eclipse workspaces for my full time job and my home test work that are both set up with ivy (and using ivyDE). However, I'm finding that I'm getting strange behaviour and conflicts between the different workspaces - issues like not being able to find certain dependencies, or not compiling etc. Is there a way in ivy or ivyDE to set the home .ivy2 directory so that I can split my workspaces? At the moment, I'm alternating different directories for my .ivy2 cache.

• Ivy via Nexus proxy

- by Matthias Hryniszak
Hi, does anyone knows how do I specify in Ivy something like mirror/mirrorOf in Maven? I'm working with a local Maven proxy (Nexus) and need the tool to specify which of the parent repositories should Nexus proxy be accessing. In Maven I do simply: <mirrors> <mirror>
<mirrorOf>central</mirrorOf>
</mirror> </mirrors> but I can't find this kind of option in Ivy.

• Reporting on release changes when using JIRA, Ivy and SVN

- by HaveAGuess
Hey guys, We have an Ivy release procedure where resolve our dependancies using Ivy pre-tagging which means that we can pull in changes for releases by other members of the team that we are not expecting We want to generate reports and track changes to dependancies between releases but there doesn't seem to be an easy way of doing this without a significant effort. We also want to generate a JIRA list of all changes not only in the main project but in dependancies that we own. This is an extension of the problem above. Otherwise we simply don't know what we are releasing - any ideas?!

• Maven/Ivy: Identical artifact with different name in dependency

- by ThiamTeck
Currently I am using Ivy for dependency management. And quite often I come across problem of getting identical jar files with different name due to transitive dependency. Example: <dependency> <groupId>javax.mail</groupId> <artifactId>mail</artifactId> <version>1.4</version> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>org.apache.geronimo.specs</groupId> <artifactId>geronimo-javamail_1.4_spec</artifactId> <version>1.4</version> </dependency> I am thinking of trying out Maven as well. Any best practice to eliminate these identical artifact in either Ivy or Maven?
