  • Faye private pub web sockets Errno::ECONNREFUSED: Connection refused - connect(2)

    Faye private pub has issues connecting. It works from rails console and from inside application. It fails when called from background process like delayed_job or sidekiq. I have been unable to resolve this issue for some time now, does anyone know why this happens?   • Loading Wavefront Data into VAO and Render It

    I have successfully loaded a triangulated wavefront(.obj) into 6 vectors, the first 3 vectors contain the locations for vertices, uv coords, and normals. The last three have the indices stored for each of the faces. I have been looking into using VAO's and VBO's to render, and I'm not quite sure how to load and render the data. One of my biggest concerns is the fact that indexed rendering only allows you to have one array of indices, meaning I somehow have to make all of the first three vectors the same size, the only way I thought of doing this, is to make 3 new vertex's of equal size, and load in the data for each face, but that would completely defeat the purpose of indexing.   • managing a high traffic media sharing website

    i'm in the process of developing a website that i predict will generate a lot of traffic. the site will be similar to many other sites offering free media streaming: mp3's. we are going to start with a pretty minimal amount of media to share, but the basic idea is that artists will set up a profile page with music they have made available for consumers to visit the page and listen to the music. we are starting with just a handful of artists, but i think that this project will generate more and more artist pages. eventually i'd like to set it up so consumers can create personalized playlists. how can i best prepare server space and bandwidth capabilities? i have a small team of web designers and programmers working on the site, as i am pretty illiterate when it comes to site management. as the ring leader of this organization, i am more or less looking for financial requirements and monthly burn rate estimates. i don't have a ton of capitol to start with, putting together a business plan, but i am seeking investments. i have a game plan to grow fast enough to be successful, and slow enough to manage the financial growth requirements. any questions i may have failed to ask myself? is it realistic to start this project on a shared server, and upgrade? any financial advice you think i can use? i really appreciate any advice given, as this is my first business venture. thank you all in advance.   • Creating Array of settings names and values using ADO.NET Entities

    I'm using an ADO.NET Entities (.edmx) data-model along with MVC2 to build an application. I have a DB table where I want to store settings for method that run elsewhere. MVC2 allows me to create a view, editor, etc. to update this table which is great, but now when I want to do simple assignments based on column titles I'm a bit confused. For example, I would like to easily build an array that I could offset into the record's value based on it's "Title" Column: var entities = new ManagerEntities(); Setting[] settings = entities.settings.ToArray(); This returns something like: Settings[0].[SettingTitle][SettingValue] However, I would like to more easily index into the value than having to loop through all the returned settings, when they're already index. string URL_ID_NEED = [NeededUrl][http://www.url.com] Am I missing something relatively simple? Thanks! ========================= *Update* ========================= Ok, I think I've got a solution, but I'm wondering why this would be so complicated, and if I'm just not thinking of the right context for ADO.NET objects, here's what I did: public string GetSetting(string SettingName) { var entities = new LabelManagerEntities(); IEnumerable<KeyValuePair<string, object>> entityKeyValues = new KeyValuePair<string, object>[] { new KeyValuePair<string, object>("SettingTitle", SettingName) }; EntityKey key = new EntityKey("LabelManagerEntities.Settings", entityKeyValues); // Get the object from the context or the persisted store by its key. Setting settingvalue = (Setting)entities.GetObjectByKey(key); return settingvalue.SettingValue.ToString(); } This method handles the job of querying the Entities by "Key" to get back the correct value as a returned string (which I can than strip out the " ", or or cast to an integer, etc. etc.,) Am I just duplicating functionality that already exists in ADO.NET's design patterns (I'm pretty new to it) -- or is this a reasonable solution?

    Trying to get my project updated to MVC3, something I just can't find: I have a simple datatype of ENUMS: public enum States() { AL,AK,AZ,...WY } Which I want to use as a DropDown/SelectList in my view of a model that contains this datatype: public class FormModel() { public States State {get; set;} } Pretty straight forward: when I go to use the auto-generate view for this partial class, it ignores this type. I need a simple select list that sets the value of the enum as the selected item when I hit submit and process via my AJAX - JSON POST Method. And than the view (???!): <div class="editor-field"> @Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.State, model => model.States) </div> thanks in advance for the advice!

  • Graph Theory: How to compute closeness centrality for each node in a set of data?

    I'd like to learn how to apply network theory to my own cache of relational data. I'm trying to build a demo of a new way of browsing a music library, using network theory, that I think would make for a very intuitive and useful way of finding the right song at any given time. I have all the data (artists as nodes, similarity from 0 to 1 between each artist and those it is related to) and I can already program, but I don't know how to actually calculate the centrality of a node from that. I've spent a while trying to email different professors at my school but no one seems to know where I can learn this. I hope someone's done something similar. Thanks in advance you guys! ~Jordan

  • How do I properly embed third-party frameworks in my Cocoa application?

    I am writing a Cocoa application that makes use of the ParseKit framework (http://www.parsekit.com/). I've included the Framework in the proper folder, added a Copy Files build phase, and added it to the build phase. I can build and launch the application on my Mac. However, when I try to run it on another Mac, it crashes. The Console shows the following error message: dyld: Library not loaded: /Users/Jordan/Files/ParseKit/build/Debug/ParseKit.framework/Versions/A/ParseKit It looks like when the app launches, it is looking for the framework on my local drive. However, the framework is in the Copy Files build phase, so it has been copied into that application's Contents/Frameworks folder. If if the application were looking in this folder, it would be able to load the framework just fine, but for some reason it's looking for it on my local drive on the original Mac (which obviously doesn't exist on the other Mac). What am I doing wrong?

  • Update/Increment a single column on multiple rows at once

    I'm trying to add rows to a column, keeping the order of the newest column set to one, and all other rows counting up from there. In this case, I add a new row with order=0, then use this query to update all the rows by one. "UPDATE favorits SET order = order+1" However, what happens is that all the rows are updated to the same value. I get a stack of favorites, all with order 6 for example, when it should be one with 1, the next with 2 and so on. How do I update these rows in a way that orders them the way they should be?   • Exception when ASP.NET attempts to delete network file.

    Greetings - I've got an ASP.NET application that is trying to delete a file on a network share. The ASP.NET application's worker process is running under a domain account (confirmed this by looking in TaskManager and by using ShowContexts2.aspx¹). I've been assured by the network admins that the process account is a member of a group that has Modify permissions to the directory that contains the file I'm trying to delete. However, it is unable to do so, and instead I get an exception (changed the file path to all x's): System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. --- System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\xxxxxxx\xxxxxxx\xxxxxxx\xxxxxx.xxx' is denied. Right now I don't have a server set up but I am just using the development one that Visual Studio Starts when you make a website project and run it. I have a folder on my hard drive that contains an unknown number of images. I want to write a piece of code that will go through each image and add them to the default webpage. I have tried this code but it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? Should I be using a ListView control or a DataView or something like that? Do I need to add a virtual directory in order to access the images? If so, how do I to that on this test server? ALSO, how do I set the position and alignment of these pictures?   • CakePHP, CodeIgniter or Rails for multi-user Tumblr clone?

    I'm about to start building a tumblr clone that handles multiple users (so premade clones like Gelato won't cut it) and I'm not sure which framework I'd like to build this is. Right now, I'm only intending to build a prototype. Something I can get a dozen friends on to test the concept and grow to maybe a couple hundred users to prove the market, so I'm not worried about long term scale. My biggest concern right now is quick deployment. I'd like to get from zero to signups in as short a time as possible, with as little customization to the framework of choice as possible. I have experience with PHP, but not Ruby. However, I don't think the learning curve would be too steep so I'm not ruling out rails. I just want the framework that is most appropriate for a system like a multi-user tumblr clone so that I can build it with as little hassle, and as quickly, as possible. If anyone has experience with a similar project, or with these frameworks and can offer an insightful perspective, I'd be very appreciative. Thanks for taking the time to read.   • Sql Querying, group relationships

    Hi, Suppose I have two tables: Group ( id integer primary key, someData1 text, someData2 text ) GroupMember ( id integer primary key, group_id foreign key to Group.id, someData text ) I'm aware that my SQL syntax is not correct :) Hopefully is clear enough. My problem is this: I want to load a group record and all the GroupMember records associated with that group. As I see it, there are two options. A single query: SELECT Group.id, Group.someData1, Group.someData2 GroupMember.id, GroupMember.someData FROM Group INNER JOIN GroupMember ... WHERE Group.id = 4; Two queries: SELECT id, someData2, someData2 FROM Group WHERE id = 4; SELECT id, someData FROM GroupMember WHERE group_id = 4; The first solution has the advantage of only being one database round trip, but has the disadvantage of returning redundant data (All group data is duplicated for every group member) The second solution returns no duplicate data but involves two round trips to the database. What is preferable here? I suppose there's some threshold such that if the group sizes become sufficiently large, the cost of returning all the redundant data is going to be greater than the overhead involved with an additional database call. Processing triggers for bamfdaemon ... Rebuilding /usr/share/applications/bamf.index... Processing triggers for desktop-file-utils ... Processing triggers for gnome-menus ... Errors were encountered while processing: google-chrome-stable I then type sudo apt-get install -f And retry installation though it still does not install and I receive the same errors. I have also tried using: sudo apt-get install libxss1 libnspr4-0d libcurl3 Though the above doesn't work either.

  • Unity stuck in 2D mode, Nvidia Quadro graphics "unknown", Nvidia-Current active but not in use

    I've seen this problem reported under several questions, but I haven't been able to resolve any of it so I thought I'd bring it all in under one umbrella. I started a new job and was given a Dell Precision M6400 laptop with Nvidia Quadro FX 2700M graphics card. It had a previous version of Ubuntu on it, but nobody had any passwords for it so I wiped the drive and did a fresh install of 11.10 from scratch. I didn't do any updates during installation, preferring to do them after boot. Updates ran fine and the system works... except Unity is in 2D mode. System Settings - Additional Drivers shows that Nvidia-Current is active but not in use. System Settings - System Info shows Graphics Driver Unknown, Experience Standard Nvidia X Server Settings is installed and working, re-writing the xorg.conf did nothing. /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer string: Quadro FX 2700M/PCI/SSE2 OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 285.05.09 Not software rendered: yes Not blacklisted: yes GLX fbconfig: yes GLX texture from pixmap: yes GL npot or rect textures: yes GL vertex program: yes GL fragment program: yes GL vertex buffer object: yes GL framebuffer object: yes GL version is 1.4+: yes Unity 3D supported: yes One suggestion was to do a sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia* and that resulted in a scrambled screen on boot and a non-bootable installation. Pressing the Delete key on boot allowed me to access the recovery console and do a sudo apt-get install nvidia-current, which brought me back to a working, bootable system. Another suggestion was to edit /etc/default/grub and change the line reading "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to read "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash vmalloc=192MB" thus allocating more video RAM. I did that, followed by a sudo update-grub and a re-boot. No change. Created a brand new standard user and logged on with that account, no change.
