  • C++ option/long option implementation

    I am working on a parser for meta programming language using C++ on Linux platform. Right now, I need to implement option/long option for the parser to provide some additional features. Basically, if the user pass in some additional option, the parser needs to store statistics while parsing the text files. I can think of two ways to implement it. One way is to user global to store options entered by users. Another way is to create a singleton class to store options. So I would like to know if there is any other way to implement it.   • On which crowdsourced design site have you the best experience? (ie, crowdspring, mycroburst, etc)

    I wasn't sure which site to ask this on (as Graphic Design hasn't reached beta yet), so I thought I would try here. I'm looking to have a couple logos and website designs done. I've had some great local designers, but each one has moved or gone else where so I keep having to look for new designers. My thought and realization in the last couple days is to go to a crowdsourced design site like crowdspring.com or mycroburst.com. Both of these sites look good, but I'm wondering what else is out there? Are there better ones and how have your experiences been them?

  • about ubuntu upgrade for version 11.02

    In my Ubuntu version, I cannot get the essence of Ubuntu because my version is low. Most of the software cannot be used and some command are not really working. My 300GB HDD is not found. My primary HDD is 750GB, and has Windows 7 and Ubuntu on it in dual-boot. On Windows, a 450GB HDD for storage is found. The next question is about my launcher. It is not on the left side, so I cannot use it efficiently because it is in one third of my desktop.

  • What software do you use to detect an internect connection drop?

    I'm looking for a piece of software to detect drops in my internet connection and log those drops. OS doesn't really matter since I have pretty much everything running here, although something on OSX would be nice. I also don't really care how it determines that connection has been dropped, but I think that there must be something better than a ping or at least a combination of a ping and something else.

  • What USB key would you recommend using for running a Windows 7 VM off of?

    Because I can't find a good PHP editor for OSX, I develop in Windows with PhpEd. At the moment, my development time is split between a desktop and a laptop. To partially solve the problem of having 2 different environments, I have installed a virtual machine (through Virtual Box) and put the hard drive file on an external hard drive. At the moment, I've been connecting it through Firewire 800. I have 2 problems with this setup: (1) The hard drive is fairly large so to carry the laptop and hard drive I pretty much require a backpack. (2) The hard drive requires quite a bit of power and therefore reduces the battery life (by about 40%). My thought is to move the VM hard drive onto a USB key. I realize it will be slower, but as I'm just using it for PHP development, there isn't a lot of disk activity in the VM. The only really intense time is boot up, otherwise, it just about sits idle. Do anyone have any suggestions on a USB key to use for the VM? It would need to a minimum of 32GB.

  • SFTP logging: is there a way?

    I'm wondering if there is a way to log commands received by the server. It can be all SSH commands, as long as it includes information on commands related to file transfer. I'm having issues with an SFTP client and the creator is asking for logs, but I am unable to find any existing logs. I'm looking to log on both or either CentOS or OS X (although I suspect if it's possible, it'd be similar on both).

    In reviewing: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/graphics/Canvas.html I'm wondering translate(): "preconcat the current matrix with the specified translation" -- what does this mean? I can't find a good definition of "preconcat" anywhere on the internet! The only place I can find it is in the Android Source - I'm starting to wonder if they made it up? :) I'm familiar with "concat" or concatenate, which is to append to, so what is a pre-concat?

  • What is better: CSS hacks or browser detection?

    Commonly when I look around the Internet, I find that people are generally using CSS hacks to make their website look the same in all browsers. Personally, I have found this to be quite time consuming to find all of these hacks and test them; each change you make you have to test in 4+ browsers to make sure it didn't break anything else. About a year ago, I looked around the Internet for what other major sites are using (Yahoo, Google, BBC, etc) and found that most of them are doing some form of browser detection (JS, HTML if statements, server based). I have started doing this as well. On almost all of the sites I have worked on recently, I use jQuery, so I use the built in browser detection. Is there a reason you use or don't use either of these?

    Is there an upgrade guide for Kohana 3.0.9 from 3.0.8. I'm looking for something like what jQuery provides when they release a new version. It allows for a quick scan of the changes to notice if there's anything I could use or would change how I've done things. The resolved issues are part of this, but I'm looking for something more high level. The issues require reading everything in each issue and it's often hard to understand what's actually changed.

  • Why isn't my assets folder being installed on emulator?

    Where are my assets being installed to? I utilize an assets folder in my new app. I have two files in the folder. When I install my app on the emulator, I cannot access my assets, and furthermore I cannot see them on the emulator filesystem. Extracted my apk and confirmed the assets folder exists: $ ls -ltr assets/ total 16 -rw-rw-r--. 1 brad brad 1050 2010-05-20 00:33 schema-DashDB.sql -rw-rw-r--. 1 brad brad 9216 2010-05-20 00:33 dash.db On the emulator, no assets folder: # pwd /data/data/com.gtosoft.dash # ls -l drwxr-xr-x system system 2010-05-20 00:46 lib # I just want to package a pre-built database with my app and then open it to obtain data when needed. Just tried it on my Moto Droid, unable to access/open the DB, just like the emulator: DBFile=/data/data/com.gtosoft.dash/assets/dash.db Building the DB on the fly from a schema file is out of the question because its such a slow process (about 5-10 statements per second is all I get for throughput).

  • phantom error "error parsing XML: unbound prefix"

    The error "error parsing XML: unbound prefix" shows up on my main layout: main.xml when I first open Eclipse. To make the error go away, all I have to do is make a modification to the file, then undo it, then hit save (have to make a change in order to be able to save file and thus trigger the new syntax check). My environment is: Fedora Eclipse Platform Version: 3.4.2 Based on build id: 20090211-1700 My target is Android API level 5. The first time I saw the error I spent a long time trying to track down "the problem" but later realized there isn't really a problem, it's just a phantom error.   • Is there a way to use the transactions in TCPDF when extending it with FPDI?

    I am using TCPDF with FPDI's bridge. The issue I'm having is that as soon as I use the startTransaction() I get the following error: TCPDF ERROR: Cannot access protected property FPDI:$numpages / Undefined property: FPDI::$numpages and the script ends (because of the die in the TCPDF::Error() method). Here is the code I'm using: $pdf = new FPDI(); // add a page $pdf->AddPage(); $pdf->startTransaction(); $pdf->Cell(0, 0, 'blah blah blah'); $pdf->rollbackTransaction(); $pdf->Output( . time() . '.pdf', 'D'); If I change it to: $pdf = new FPDI(); // add a page $pdf->AddPage(); $pdf->Cell(0, 0, 'blah blah blah'); $pdf->Output( . time() . '.pdf', 'D'); it works fine. Is there anyway to make them work together and use TCPDF's transactions?

  • Possible to programatically access X-Mms-Content-Location?

    Is it possible to access the X-Mms-Content-Location attribute of a message from a MMS message programatically, using the Android SDK? This is one example of the error that I am investigating.   • Is it possible to load ListPreference items from an adapter?

    I'm setting out to create a settings activity for my app. I've defined a PreferenceActivity with a nice layout including a ListPreference object for the user to select a bluetooth device. I'm having trouble dynamically populating the list. I would like to populate ListPreference with values from an array adapter (which I'll create and populate with relevant bluetooth device names). If this were a spinner View, I could just call setAdapter(). However with the ListPreference object I can't figure out how to attach an adapter (findviewByID won't cast from View To ListPreference, so I can't even get a handle to the object). I would like to attach an adapter and then populate the adapter with values, which in turn would populate the ListPreference with values.

    I desperately need source control to manage projects between more than one developer. A long time ago I used Visual Source Safe and it worked quite well. Can anybody recommend a free substitute? I have the following basic requirements: I need to host the repository on my own server. I do not want extra clutter within my source files, like CVS does. I need proper check in / check out, so that nobody can change a module until I've checked it back in. I don't want / need source code merging / branching. We use Delphi for web development, so many html files, images, sql files, etc. Any recommendations?

  • Why does keyboard-slide crash my app?

    If I physically slide out the keyboard on my Moto Droid A855, it crashes my test app with the stack trace pasted below. I don't understand why?     I have 4 images, which I want to fade between each other in a loop. I have something like the following: <img src="/images/image-1.jpg" id="featureImg1" /> <img src="/images/image-2.jpg" id="featureImg2" style="display:none;" /> <img src="/images/image-3.jpg" id="featureImg3" style="display:none;" /> <img src="/images/image-4.jpg" id="featureImg4" style="display:none;" /> I am up for revisions to the HTML, although I cannot use absolute positioning in this case. I am using jQuery else where on the site, so it's available. I also need to deal with an image not being loaded right away as the images are larger.

  • Which is the best PDF library for PHP?

    I'm wondering which is the best PDF creation library for PHP, mainly for creating PDFs from scratch (not as much HTML to PDF)? I have worked with FPDF for quite a while now, but it's getting quite old and hasn't had much for updates. I found TCPDF the other day (thanks you another question on SO). It seems very good and is based on FPDF so I don't think it'd be a big transition. FPDI also supports TCPDF which is nice as I have used it before and found it be useful. I have also seen DOMPDF but it too hasn't had many updates for quite some time and is lacking a lot of functionality for general PDF generation. Zend (Zend_Pdf) as well as many other libraries have their own PDF libraries or extend another one, but you often have to setup the entire library, which for existing projects can be a problem. What other libraries are there and what have your experiences with them been with the above or other libraries?
