  • How can the Ubuntu font be used with LyX or LaTeX?

    - by dv3500ea
I use LyX for creating documents and would like to be able to format the output of my documents so that they use the Ubuntu font. In the LyX document settings, it appears that there are only a fixed number of fonts available. Is it possible to add the Ubuntu font to this list? If not, is there a way to use the Ubuntu font in LaTeX? I can export the LyX document to LaTeX, make my changes and then use pdflatex & co. to create a formatted document.

  • LyX - breaking long formula lines

    - by Amir Rachum
How can I break long formulas in LyX into two (or more) lines? I know how to write several lines of equations in one "math box" but I'm looking for a solution to break lines even in the middle of a parenthesis. I'm using LyX 1.6.4 and currently, when the formula is too big, it doesn't do anything (it just doesn't print the last segment of it, which is "beyond" the page). Is this possible in LyX?

  • subscript for a join (\bowtie) operation in LyX/LaTeX

    - by Amir Rachum
I'm using LyX to write some Relational Algebra queries. I'm using the \bowtie symbol for the join operation but when I try to put a text in subscript directly under the symbol, I get the following error: ...a_{\t{pId}}\t{person}\right)\bowtie\limits {\t{pId}{1}=\t{pId}_{2}... I'm ignoring this misplaced \limits or \nolimits command. Anyone knows how to do what I want? Preferably in LyX, but ERT code snippets will also be appreciated. Thanks! Edit: \t is a macro for \text.

  • Bibliography behaves strange in lyx.

    - by Orjanp
Hi! I have created a Bibliography section in my document written in lyx. It uses a book layout. For some reason it did start over again when I added some more entries. The new entries was made some time later than the first ones. I just went down to key-27 and hit enter. Then it started on key-1 again. Does anyone know why it behaves like this? The lyx code is below. \begin{thebibliography}{34} \bibitem{key-6}Lego mindstorms, http://mindstorms.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx \bibitem{key-7}C.A.R. Hoare. Communicating sequential processes. • LyX - Change the fontsize of the compiled math

    - by Soren M
I have worked with LaTeX in a few years now. My default editor is of course emacs, but I want to try LyX. It seems to work quite well, especially the maxima-calculator intergrated. But I have one problem with it: How do I change the font-size of the run-time compiled math? (It's too small).

  • How do I pick a custom font in Lyx?

    - by Eisaj
How do I pick a custom font using Lyx? All I see are options to pick Roman/Serif/Typewriter and then a few preset faces, but I have hundreds of fonts on my system and want to be able to use them! Don't make me resort to Microsoft Word! Thanks!

  • Insert video clip in a lyx presentation and play it in GNU/Linux.

    - by Orjanp
    How can I insert a video clip into a presentation created in Lyx? Have seen http://www.latex-community.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=48. It works, but there the video starts in the background in an external player. I would prefer it to be played in the presentation itself. If an external player is used it it should at least start in the foreground. But the presentation takes the foreground. Using evince in GNU/linux as pdf viewer. Beamer is used as a presentation template. Is it possible to play a video file in an embedded player in the presentation itself? Created an example presentation. The code is found below. \documentclass[english]{beamer} \usepackage{mathptmx} \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} \usepackage[latin9]{inputenc} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{amssymb} \makeatletter %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Textclass specific LaTeX commands. % this default might be overridden by plain title style \newcommand\makebeamertitle{\frame{\maketitle}}% \AtBeginDocument{ \let\origtableofcontents=\tableofcontents \def\tableofcontents{\@ifnextchar[{\origtableofcontents}{\gobbletableofcontents}} \def\gobbletableofcontents#1{\origtableofcontents} } \makeatletter \long\def\lyxframe#1{\@lyxframe#1\@lyxframestop}% \def\@lyxframe{\@ifnextchar<{\@@lyxframe}{\@@lyxframe<*>}}% \def\@@lyxframe<#1>{\@ifnextchar[{\@@@lyxframe<#1>}{\@@@lyxframe<#1>[]}} \def\@@@lyxframe<#1>[{\@ifnextchar<{\@@@@@lyxframe<#1>[}{\@@@@lyxframe<#1>[<*>][}} \def\@@@@@lyxframe<#1>[#2]{\@ifnextchar[{\@@@@lyxframe<#1>[#2]}{\@@@@lyxframe<#1>[#2][]}} \long\def\@@@@lyxframe<#1>[#2][#3]#4\@lyxframestop#5\lyxframeend{% \frame<#1>[#2][#3]{\frametitle{#4}#5}} \makeatother \def\lyxframeend{} % In case there is a superfluous frame end %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% User specified LaTeX commands. \usetheme{Warsaw} \usepackage{hyperref} \makeatother \usepackage{babel} \begin{document} \title{Testing video} \makebeamertitle \lyxframeend{}\section{Testing video} \lyxframeend{}\subsection{Testing video} \lyxframeend{}\lyxframe{Testing video} \href{run:video.wmv}{Movie} \appendix \lyxframeend{} \end{document}

  • Disable MathML output of eLyXer

    - by Gryllida
eLyXer is a standalone LyX to HTML converter. In the resulting file, equations are formatted as MathML, and the file itself starts with an XML tag. This causes two problems: LibreOffice does not read the XML file (it can read HTML files, but not XHTML). I am unable to copy and paste the equations into a document editor such as LibreOffice with the goal of subsequent conversion into .doc, because .doc files do not support MathML. The eLyXer help page mentions an option to only use simple math, but there is no option to set math equations to output as images. And I already set Document Settings Output Math equations Format: images in LyX, which presumably is saved in the lyx document somewhere. A web search did not come up with any solutions.

  • How do I merge cells of the same column in LyX?

    - by brickner
I have 3 subfigures I want to arrange so that 1 will be in the left and 2 will be in the right (one above the other): Figure 1 | Figure 2 Figure 1 | Figure 3 Figure 1 should appear only once of course - across the entire column. I thought I should use 2x2 table to arrange them, but I can't find a way to merge the two cells in the same column to one cell in order to put figure 1 there. How can I merge the two cells in the same column?

  • How to draw a graph in LaTeX?

    - by Amir Rachum
First of all, let me say I'm using LyX, though I have no problem using ERT. Secondly, what is the most simplest way to draw a simple graph like this in Latex? I've seen some documents with graphs and I've seen some examples, but I couldn't figure out how to just draw a simple graph - what packages do I need, etc?

  • How is includegraphic interfering with tabular?

    - by Charles Stewart
I'm editing a text provided by my client as a LyX file that includes graphics and other files that I don't have. I've "commented out" the graphics by putting in a custom preamble that substitutes the file-loading definitions with macros that just quote their arguments. However, the \includegraphic macro throws up an error in the two tabular environments where it is used, complaining that \endfirsthead was never defined. What is this macro, and why is it interfering with mine? The preamble: \usepackage{natbib} \def\fileloc{/some/path/stylefile} \newif\iftextproof \IfFileExists\alifefileloc\textproofalse\textprooftrue \iftextproof \usepackage{./stylefile} %natbib subst: \renewcommand\cite[1]{{\tt #1}} %suppress graphics includes: \def\quotearg#1{\expandafter\string\csname #1\endcsname} \newcommand\gobbleIG[2][*void*]{{\footnotesize \quotearg{#2}}} \newcommand\gobbleSF[2][*unnamed*]{{\bf #1}} \let\includegraphics=\gobbleIG \let\subfigure=\gobbleSF \else \usepackage\fileloc \fi

  • Latex: Convert "Comment" into "Marginal Note"

    - by diegos
Hi, using LyX I'm trying to convert the "comments" into "marginal notes". I tried several things but without luck. The best shot was like this: \makeatletter \@ifundefined{comment}{}{% \renewenvironment{comment}[1]% {\begingroup\marginpar{\bgroup#1\egroup}}% {\endgroup}} \makeatother or like this: \@ifundefined{comment}{}{% \renewenvironment{comment}% {\marginpar{}% {}}% But what I get is only the first character of the text converted. Like in this image: IMAGE MARGINAL NOTE I searched a lot trying to find how to solve this but without luck. I found the explanation of what is happening: Unexpected Output Only one character is in the new font You thought you changed font over a selection of text, but only the first character has come out in the new font. You have most probably used a command instead of a declaration. The command should take the text as its argument. If you don't group the text, only the first character will be passed as the argument. What I don't know and wasn't able to find is how to group the text. Hope someone could help me :-) Many thanks. Best Regards, Diego (diegostex)

  • Why does my cursor jump when typing in ubuntu 11.10

    - by Stephen Myall
When typing in Ubuntu my cursor jumps around and its not application specific. It doesn't matter or Im filing in a web form, writing an e-mail or using LibreOffice or Lyx. Im using a Sony Vaio 64bit machine. i read a previous question (link below) on this subject which indicates it may have something to do with the touchpad settings. as this has occurred in previous Ubuntu distros Im guess it is somekind of hardware issue. How do you turn of the touchpad when typing to avoid the cursor jumping around? I'd be grateful if anyone can make this stop Stephen

  • Real Time LaTeX?

    - by shoosh
I'm looking for an application in which I can write pure LaTeX in one half of the screen and on the other half to see the compiled document in real time. This seems really like an obvious way to do LaTeX authoring but it doesn't look like any software is able to do it. LyX is not what I'm looking for. I want to edit the actual LaTeX and see it rendered in real time. Why isn't this already being done somewhere?

  • Best tool(s) for working with DocBook XML documents?

    - by Anders Sandvig
I experimented with DocBook XML a while back, and also used it professionally for documenting a few software projects, but since the tool support at the time was not very good, I soon abandoned it in favor of hand-written LaTeX, and later LyX. Now I'm considering taking another look at DocBook, and I was wondering, what are the best tools for working with DocBook XML documents today?

  • Latex editor for windows that works with unicode

    - by Anna
Hello, I need to write Hebrew text in Latex. I am currently working on Windows with TeXnicCenter. I was pretty happy with this tool, up until the time when I needed to write Hebrew text. My regular alt-shift just won't change the language (I even downloaded the last alpha version, which was supposed to solve the problem, but it didn't). So I'm looking for another latex editor for windows that will let me write Hebrew. Please advice. Note: I know that it is possible with Lyx, but I prefer a real Latex editor.

  • Recommended build system for latex?

    - by Paul Biggar
I'm trying to figure out the best build system for latex. Currently, I use latex-makefile, editing in vim, and viewing changes in Okular or gv. The major problem is that it sometimes gets hides errors on me, and I have to run latex manually. The major advantages are that it does all the iteration I need, and offers both pdf and ps simply. If you have experience with latex-mk vim-latex kile lyx miktex latex-makefile the ultimate latex makefile rubber any others I havent come across Would you recommend them, and why/why not?
