  • Sound card stop responding

    A few days ago I installed the latest version of Ubuntu in a computer of mine, that it has installed the "Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS". After the installation and up to yesterday everything was excelent. Yesterday I installed the latest Ubuntu updates and today I had several issues. First the mouse was not responed as should be, but after restarted my computer everything was fine with mouse. Next was my sound card. For now I do not have sound at all :( I don't really know what's wrong. Does anybody has any idea on how to solve that issue, or from where to start, to find a solution ? If there is no any available solution for that issue, can I remove the latest updates that installed yesterday ? Kind regards Merianos Nikos

  • sudo dhclient eth0 | sudo: unable to resolve host ubuntu

    I have a computer of a friend of mine, that runs Ubuntu (I don't know what version, due to the current system status) and while he was updating the kernel, he reboot the computer (yes that could be happen !!, anyway) Currently I am trying to recover the system by using a live USB, with Ubuntu installed on it. What I am doing, is the following: Update Failure The problem is that when I try to execute the fifth step, I am getting error because I do not have Internet access. The computer is properly wired on my rooter, and I have Internet access in any place apart of the shell. This message for example is send it via the live USB. but I cannot access the Internet via the shell. In my shell I try to use this command: sudo dhclient eth0 but the result of this command is the following message sudo: unable to resolve host ubuntu My hosts file has the following content: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 ubuntu # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts ::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback fe00::0 ip6-localnet ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix ff02::1 ip6-allnodes ff02::2 ip6-allrouters ff02::3 ip6-allhosts how can I get connected on the Internet, in order to download the appropriate updates ? UPDATE 1 I just notice, that when I execute the ifconfig I am getting the following warning: Warning: cannot open /proc/net/dev (No such file or directory). Limited output. UPDATE 2 I just found that, and looks like solving the problem with dhclient eth0 command, but still I cannot ping Google UPDATE 3 Now the sudo dhclient eth0 returns the following message: RTNETLINK answers: File exists UPDATE 4 I just ping my rooter and I getting response, so, it is looks like I cannot ping outside the rooter (ie.     in a large listview control collection (say 5000 items), adding a SINGLE extra item can take 10+ seconds in windows vista/7, and that's just the LVM_INSERTITEM message handling it looks that it only affects LVS_ICON, LVS_REPORT and LVS_LIST are still very fast can anybody confirm this? the same code on windows XP with similar listview window styles adds an extra item instantly thanks nikos

  • Which Android phone to use for development...?

    Hi, I'm planning to port a couple of games from iPhone/Windows Mobile to the Android platform. The games are written in C++ so I plan to use the NDK with a thin java wrapper. I'm new to the Android platform and need some advice on which phone to buy for development. I suspect like Windows Mobile there is a level of fragmentation with different phones supporting different features (keyboard/ rotation/ screen size/ capacitive touch screen/ etc). What are the best device(s) for development on the Android platform...? They also have to be available in the UK/Europe. Thank you in advance. Nikos.

  • Qt for Symbian - Detecting touch/non-touch devices...

    I'm porting a game for Symbian which supports both a touch & non-touch UI. I need to be able to tell if the device has a touch screen on start-up so I can enable the appropriate mode. After googling for hours and going though the Qt Docs I found QSysInfo but this merely provides the version of the Symbian device. Is there a way to get the actual capabilities of the device? There must be a way to tell if the device has a touch screen...! I'm using the latest QtCreator with the NokiaSDK. Thank you in advance, Nikos.

    I am currently developing a web application for my thesis.I was asked by my professor to make diagrams to describe the business logic. Since I don't have a prior experience, I am pretty confused with all the terminology. I managed to clarify,I think, what business rules and business logic are, but I can't find out how you describe the business logic. Is it something particular or is it something more general? Do I need to learn UML? Does the fact that I use MVC affects the way I'll describe it?

  • Xerox 3100 mfp printer/ scanner not working not working

    I have installed the latest version of Ubuntu on my system. My problem is I cannot find the proper drivers for my printer/ scanner:Xerox Phaser 3100 MFP. Although it is recognised by the system and my print jobs appear as completed, in fact they are not. Also I have a problem with my wireless connectio. Although it is configured in the network settings, connection is not successful, unless I restart my router. What can I do? Thank you in advance

  • Can various browsers be assumed to maintain predictible state accurately in multiplayer online gaming?

    With many games it is said that server will assume that clients keep track of the world accurately. Assuming this is true, for a browser based multiplier space invaders game you would only tell the client when new bullets or the players ship moves and everything that behaves in a predetermined manner in the js client. It would be expected that positions would be the same in the browsers. Do you think you could trust browsers to do this? I feel that timings could differ between rendering loops and cause positions to get out of sync and might just get the server to maintain all the positions to make sure.

  • Website pages very slow to load on first access

    I have a production web server that makes sites to be very slow when load for first time. After the first time all connections are normal and fast. In the following screen you can see the first test I have run for a random site in my server: and here you can see the result of the second time request: As you can see there is a big change in the second load of the same page. Here is the page load time graph: My problem is that I don't really know anything about Red Had Linux server, and also I don't know where can I start. Can somebody to help me ? I like to find out the solution for the long time "wait" in connection. I know that my question is very minimal, but you can always ask me to give you information about the server.

    Can a compound key be set as a primary key to another table? For instance i have the tables: Books -with Primary Key:Product_ID Client -with Primary key: Client_ID Clients_Books -with Compound Primary Key:Product_Id and Client_ID I want to set this compound Primary key from Clients_Books as a Primary Key to another table named: Order_Details. But I don't want to use the Product_ID and the Client_ID from the Books, Clients tables. Does this make sense? All opinions more than welcome.

  • Visual studio Solution for two versions of a web application

    The issue at hand is this. We have a web application with two different versions, a full application, and a light version of it. In it's most part the light version is a subset of the full version, which means that it uses the same web pages and references the same binaries with the full version. However, some of the pages of the full version should not be deployed with the light version obviously, and some binaries (libraries etc) need not be deployed with the full version. If it were a windows forms application we could attempt to approach the issue at hand with preprocessor directives, unfortunately this is not feasible I think. (please do correct me if I'm wrong with this) Anyway, what would a good approach on this? Thanks

  • Extract wav file from video file

    I am developing an application in which I need to extract the audio from a video. The audio needs to be extracted in .wav format but I do not have a problem with the video format. Any format will do, as long as I can extract the audio in a wav file. Currently I am using Windows Media Player COM control in a windows form to play the videos, but any other embedded player will do as well. Any suggestions on how to do this? Thanks

    Hi all! I am facing a very weird problem with mysql and doctrine [with help of codeIgniter]. I am trying to make a simple migration script taking all records from one table and after a little process, saving them to another. However, on my laptop [running windows and wamp] I get double numbers of the original table records to have been copied to the destination table. In my colleagues' laptops, everything works fine! We are all using mysql 5.0.86 [plus windows plus wamp]. Here is the code : function buggy_function(){ $this->db(); //get db connection $q = Doctrine_Query::create()->from('Oldtable r'); $oldrecords = $q->fetchArray(); $count = 0; foreach ($oldrecords as $oldrecord){ $newrecord = new NewTableClass(); $newrecord->password = md5($oldrecord['password']); $newrecord->save(); echo $newrecord->id. ' Id -> saved.' } } Simple as that! I have 39 records on the Old table and I am getting 78 records in the new table, which are exactly the same records, except from the unique primary key. It seems as if the script runs twice. But the output of the script is the following : 1 Id -> saved. 2 Id -> saved. ... ... 39 Id -> saved. Do you have any idea why this is happening?     Hi everyone! I have a quite common problem, as I saw in the various user groups but could not find a suitable answer. What I want to do is generate an ASP.NET page in my website which will have the option of being exported into Microsoft Word .doc format.   • One executable with cmd-line params or just many satellite executables?

    I design an application back-end. For now, it is a .NET process (a Console Application) which hosts various communication frameworks such as Agatha and NServiceBus. I need to periodically update my datastore with values (coming from the application while it's running). I found three possible ways: Accept command line arguments, so I can call my console app with -update. On start up a background thread will periodically invoke the update method. Create an updater.exe app which will do the updates, but I will have code duplication since in some way it will need to query the data from the source in order to save it to the datastore. Which one is better?
