We are making websites for free for friends at the moment in order to get ourselves some experience and to learn from each other. We are about to finish our first website this week. In 6 months time we plan to have a portfolio and hope to start charging for websites. The issue is that we are all beginners and we are unsure about how to keep records of the websites we do. It is important as we may want to maintain a few websites or add to them later on. How does a proper web design business keep records of all info needed?   • How toget a list of "fastest miles" from a set of GPS Points

    I'm trying to solve a weird problem. Maybe you guys know of some algorithm that takes care of this. I have data for a cargo freight truck and want to extract some data. Suppose I've got a list of sorted points that I get from the GPS. That's the route for that truck: [ { "lng": "-111.5373066", "lat": "40.7231711", "time": "1970-01-01T00:00:04Z", "elev": "1942.1789265256325" }, { "lng": "-111.5372056", "lat": "40.7228762", "time": "1970-01-01T00:00:07Z", "elev": "1942.109892409177" } ] Now, what I want to get is a list of the "fastest miles". I'll do an example: Given the points: A, B, C, D, E, F the distance from point A to point B is 1 mile, and the cargo took 10:32 minutes. From point B to point D i've got other mile, and the cargo took 10 minutes, etc. So, i need a list sorted by time. Similar to: B -> D: 10 A -> B: 10:32 D -> F: 11:02 Do you know any efficient algorithm that let me calculate that? Thank you all. PS: I'm using Python. EDIT: I've got the distance. I know how to calculate it and there are plenty of posts to do that. What I need is an algorithm to tokenize by mile and get speed from that.   • Backup/Multihomed network connection

    We have a couple locations that require 24/7 access to Internet and our current provider (AT&T) while mostly good is not always up. My concern would be if I go with another provider (for example Comcast) I'm going to be subject to the same down time if it's in the "last mile". I for the most part don't know where the failure points are on the ISP side but I would imagine the large majority are within the last mile. I'd looked at Mifi or similar solution but have concerns about bandwidth caps and overall speed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Why are ISP's installing routers on my site when the feed is a form of ethernet already?

    I'm connected to 3 ISP's right now. Two of them already have routers at my site, the third one announced me "they need to install some equipment" when I requested BGP session. I can only assume they need to install a Router, since that connection is now working fine, using the usual /30 net block for the connection, and the "last-mile" solution is not going to change since they only installed it last week and the BGP was in the contract from the beginning. I simply don't understand this: the "feed" is already a form of ethernet. Even those they're using different technologies for the last mile, they're all entering the ISP router using an RJ45 WAN port. I assume the ISP router does something really important that can't be done by the Big Router on the other end of the connection. It must also be something that can hurt them if miss-configured, since they don't trust us (the client) to do the stuff on our router. And I'm not talking cheap throw-away routers here: One of the routers is Cisco 2800. Edit to add network details: I'm connected to 3 ISP's, two over Radio links, one over Fiber Optic. One of the radio links is going to get dropped and the other radio link will be turned into fiber sometime next year. The fiber is 20 Mbit, radio 1 is 40 Mbit and radio 2 is 2 Mbit. I've got a /24 of provider independent address space. I'm not doing out-of-the ordinary stuff with my network, I'm overly connected because my network needs to be "up" all the time.

  • How often are comments used in XML documents?

    I'm currently developing a web-based XML managing program for a client (though I may 'market' it for future clients). Currently, it reads an XML document, converts it into manageable Javascript objects, and ultimately spits out indented, easy to read XML code. Edit: The program would be used by clients that don't feel like learning XML to add items or tags, but I (or another XML developer) may use the raw data for quick changes without using an editor. I feel like fundamentally, its ready for release, but I'm wondering if I should go the extra mile and allow support for remembering (and perhaps making) comments before generating the resulting XML. Considering that these XML files will probably never be read without a program interpreting it, should I really bother adding support for comments? I'll probably be the only one looking at raw files, and I usually don't use comments for XML anyway. So, are comments common/important in most XML documents?

The running route will start at Ferry Plaza on Embarcadero, go through Fisherman's Wharf, straight up Hyde St, couple of loops around Crooked Street and then back the same route to end at Ferry Plaza.   • Methods to Validate User Supplied Data

    I am working on a website where users record data from certain locations and they input an address to tag that location with a GPS coordinate. Pretty frequently those locations are tagged more than a mile away from the actual location and I am trying to implement a few ways to validate the data. Right now I am thinkiing of: having a tag of location pages for other users to say "incorrect location" so I can go one by one and fix it letting users with a decent amount of experience (reputation) edit the location GPS coordinates making the location be validated by a mod before it goes live and they make sure it is a good location Are these reasonable? I know the first will take a lot of my time and I would love some suggestions.

I found a few sites like www.freightCenter.com that provide quotes using webservice. Two drawbacks, its paid service and the other, my site response time is slow if I use the webservice.   • How many hours do you spend programming outside of work if you are married (with children) [closed]

    I recently attended a conference and met some insanely talented developers with mile-long lists of accomplishments. One puzzling thing I noticed about many of these wildly successful people is that a lot of their output (books, blogs, games, mobile apps) are done as hobby projects outside of their normal jobs. Not only this, but most of them were married, and some even with children. I'm absolutely baffled by this. My question is targeted to folks that are married, working full time, and also spend time outside of work on hobby projects or extra programming. The question is: How many hours do you put in programming outside of your normal job, and how do you balance it with your family life?

However, I can't seem to find out what the "units" are for STBuffer, it doesn't seem to conform to feet, miles, meters, kilometers, etc. The documentation only refers to them as "units", any suggestions? I always thought that if one doesn’t have something that he would consider a passion it’s always just a matter of time until he would discover one. Looking back, I can tell you that I discovered mine when I was 14 years old and I remember watching a football game when suddenly I became fascinated by the “man in black” that all football players obeyed during the match. That year I attended and promoted a referee course within my local referee committee and about 6 months later I was delegated to my first official game at youth tournament. Almost 10 years have passed since then and I can tell you that I very much love and appreciate this activity that I have spent doing, each and every weekend, 9 months every year, acquiring more than 600 official games until now. And even if not having a real free weekend or holiday might be sound very consuming, I can say that having something I am passionate about helps me to keep myself balanced and happy while giving me an option to channel any stress or anxiety I may feel. I think it’s important to have something of your own besides work that you spend time and effort on. Whether it’s painting, writing or a sport, having a passion can only have a positive effect on your life. And as every extra thing, it’s not always easy to follow your passion, but is it worth it?     I'm in the mid of researching for one of the best hosting control panels. The server I run is Ubuntu and I have some experience with ISPConfig 2 & 3. Since I haven't explored any others available, what are the recommended ones for an Ubuntu server? I asked because I find that there seems to be some disabling and modifications required for an Ubuntu server if I need to use ispconfig which causes the server to change its actual way of running. It's quite good though, but any more recommended ones ? Something more organic? which doesn't require much breaking and changing. I'm not asking for the simple one, I don't mind going extra mile to install a powerful one but just try sticking with most Ubuntu's conventions will be an ideal one for me. And of course, if there happens to be something that meets the requirement as mentioned "Ubuntu conventions" and also simple to install at the same time, that'd be a bonus. Thanks in advance.
