  • AWS CloudFormations, Oracle Assembly Builder, Chef and Puppet

    - by llaszews
    I blogged about the difference and similarities between AWS CloudFormations and Oracle Assembler builder to package your software stack for deployment/provisioning to the cloud. However, these tools do not deal with software stack versioning and configuration management. This is where tools like Chef and Puppet come into play. Puppet and Chef points of interest: 1. Can be used in any cloud environment (rackspace, private cloud etc). 2. There is a debate between which is better. I am not going to get into this debate other then to say Puppet is more mature. 3. AWS CloudFormations can integration with both Chef and Puppet. A good blog on AWS CloudFormations and the need for something more: AWS CloudFormation

  • Alternative to TOP in SQL Server and Oracle.

    SELECT TOP 5 * FROM EMP ORDER BY SALARY; Above query works in SQL Server. This returns top 5 employees. The problem with this query is it doesn't work with Oracle. In Oracle you would need to write the query as follows. SELECT * FROM EMP WHERE ROWNUM<=5 ORDER BY SALARY If you are looking for a query which runs in both Oracle and SQL Server. Please use below one. select * from (SELECT row_number() over( ORDER by SALARY) as rank, EMP.* FROM EMP) s1 where s1.rank <= 5; span.fullpost {display:none;}

  • How to pass $_GET variables to a PHP script via the command line?

    - by George Edison
    I am trying to create a webserver that serves PHP scripts. Currently, it works as follows: The client requests /index.php?test=value The server invokes php index.php The server feeds the HTTP request headers as STDIN to the PHP process The server reads the output of php from STDOUT and returns it to the client All of this is working except that the parameters are not being passed to the PHP script because: var_dump($_GET); returns: array(0) { } How do $_GET parameters get passed to the PHP binary when it is invoked?

  • Oracle Blob as img src in PHP page

    - by menkes
    I have a site that currently uses images on a file server. The images appear on a page where the user can drag and drop each as is needed. This is done with jQuery and the images are enclosed in a list. Each image is pretty standard: <img src='//network_path/image.png' height='80px'> Now however I need to reference images stored as a BLOB in an Oracle database (no choice on this, so not a merit discussion). I have no problem retrieving the BLOB and displaying on it's own using: $sql = "SELECT image FROM images WHERE image_id = 123"; $stid = oci_parse($conn, $sql); oci_execute($stid); $row = oci_fetch_array($stid, OCI_ASSOC+OCI_RETURN_NULLS); $img = $row['IMAGE']->load(); header("Content-type: image/jpeg"); print $img; But I need to [efficiently] get that image as the src attribute of the img tag. I tried imagecreatefromstring() but that just returns the image in the browser, ignoring the other html. I looked at data uri, but the IE8 size limit rules that out. So now I am kind of stuck. My searches keep coming up with using a src attribute that loads another page that contains the image. But I need the image itself to actually show on the page. (Note: I say image, meaning at least one image but as many as eight on a page). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Passing html attribute value to the next script in php

    - by NewBiL
    I have three php scripts. main.php questions.php and values.php Here's the code main.php <html> <head> <title></title> </head> <body> <h1>Be Prepare for the battle</h1> <?php $strTitle = "Begin"; $strLink = "<a href = 'question.php?ques_id=1'>" . $strTitle ."</a>"; echo $strLink; ?> </body> </html> questions.php <?php require_once('../connect.php'); $quesSQL = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM `questions` WHERE `ques_id`=". $_GET["ques_id"]); if(!mysql_num_rows($quesSQL)>=1) { die('Complete.'); } $next = $_GET["ques_id"]; while($row = mysql_fetch_array($quesSQL)) { $id = $row['ques_id']; $strTitle = $row['ques_title']; echo "<li>". $strTitle ."</li><br/>"; } $optSQL = mysql_query("SELECT `options`,`values` FROM questions_options WHERE ".$id."= ques_id"); echo "<form action=\"values.php\" method=\"POST\">"; while($row = mysql_fetch_array($optSQL) ) { $strOptions = $row['options']; $strValues = $row['values']; echo "<input type =\"radio\" name =\"valueIn\" value=".$strValues." />". $strOptions ."<br/>"; } echo "</form>"; $strTitle = "<input type =\"submit\" value=\"Next\">"; $next = $next+1; $strLink = "<a href = 'values.php?ques_id=".$next."'>" . $strTitle ."</a>"; echo $strLink; mysql_close(); ?> and values.php <?php require_once('../connect.php'); $input = $_POST['valueIn']; $ansSQL = mysql_query("SELECT `answer` FROM questions WHERE 1-".$_GET["ques_id"]."= ques_id"); $marks = 0; if($input == $ansSQL) { $marks = $marks+1; } else { $marks = $marks+0; } echo $marks; ?> Now problem is i have to pass one value from second script(questions.php) to third script(values.php). And it is from the <form> section in radio button's name value "valueIn". But I can't do that. Because I'm sending another value ques_id with $strLink variable at the end of the second script. So how can i do that?

  • ADF Enterprise Application Development - Made Simple (Book Review)

    - by Frank Nimphius
      Sten E. Vesterli wrote the "Oracle ADF Enterprise Application Development – Made Simple" book published by Packt Publishing in 2011 http://www.packtpub.com/oracle-adf-enterprise-application-development/book A common question on OTN, but also when talking to clients or customers is about where and how to start your ADF application development. Especially when the current programming background is not in Java, but 4 GL or PLSQL, developers often look for answers to the following questions: · How long does it take to learn Oracle ADF ? · How long does it take to replace a Forms application with ADF ? · How many developers do I need? · Do I need to know Java to use ADF and if yes, how good do I need to know this? · How do I structure my programming files, organizing them in JDeveloper work spaces, projects and libraries? · What is best practices for naming Java packages and how to void naming conflicts in ADF in general? · How many Application Modules do I need or should I create? · How to test applications? Sten Vesterli answers all of the above questions and more in his book http://www.packtpub.com/oracle-adf-enterprise-application-development/book , which makes it great value add to the 3 existing Oracle ADF books. In order of complexity (which also is the order in which reading the available Oracle ADF books makes sense), in my opinion, Sten's book should come second – though it also is useful to those that are already more advanced with Oracle ADF. So if you are absolutely new to Oracle ADF, then the order of books to read to get you up on an expert level should be: 1. Grant Ronald; "Quick Start Guide to Oracle Fusion Development: Oracle JDeveloper and Oracle ADF" (McGraw Hill 2010) 2. Sten Vesterli; "Oracle ADF Enterprise Application Development – Made Simple" (Packt Publishing 2011) 3. Duncan Mills, Peter Koletzke; " Oracle JDeveloper 11g Handbook: A Guide to Fusion Web Development" (McGraw Hill 2009) 4. Frank Nimphius, Lynn Munsinger; " Oracle Fusion Developer Guide: Building Rich Internet Applications with Oracle ADF Business Components and Oracle ADF Faces" (McGraw Hill 2010) If you are not new to Oracle ADF and Orace JDeveloper, then buy Sten Vesterli's book anyway. It is worth it and you want to have it on your book shelf. See below the table of content to get a better idea of what this book covers: · Chapter 1: The ADF Proof of Concept · Chapter 2: Estimating the Effort · Chapter 3: Getting Organized · Chapter 4: Productive Teamwork · Chapter 5: Prepare to Build · Chapter 6: Building the Enterprise Application · Chapter 7: Testing your Application · Chapter 8: Look and Feel · Chapter 9: Customizing the Functionality · Chapter 10: Securing your ADF Application · Chapter 11: Package and Deliver · Appendix: Internationalization The book is written with a lot of good humor, which makes the read very enjoyable (from a geek's perspective, of course). My favorite quote – just in case you are interested - is from page 97, when Sten talks about getting organized: " Stop sending e-mails to your team. Just stop it. E-mail is so last century.…" So true, so true! This quote's runner up is the "boss key" on page 128 where Sten talks about productivity and how Oracle Team Productivity Center (TPC) can help you with this. Quotes like these stick to your brains and make sure you never forget. Go for it!
