  • Convert DVD to a flash application (including menus)

    I was wondering if it is possible to convert a dvd to a flash application which I could then embed in a website. What I am looking for is not simply ripping the video, but something that encodes the menus and the navigation of the dvd, as well, and the result is an interactive flash application. Thanks!   • How to scan local network (LAN) for connected devices (Mac OS)

    I'm basically looking for something like this but available on Mac. I am trying to connect a new workstation to our wireless multifunction printer and I'm having a hell of a time getting the device to spit out an IP for me to connect to.   • why does Virtualbox use 15-20% CPU when VM is paused?

    Hello, I run VirtualBox 3.1 on Ubuntu with a Win XP guest. I have noticed to my surprise that when I pause the VM (its screen grays out) VirtualBox continues using 15-20% of the host's CPU. Is this normal behavior? Is there a way to avoid it? (Without saving the state of the VM and exiting VirtualBox.) Thanks for any insights! ~lara

I want a keyword to put into the kickstart file that would stop Fedora from intimating with an update pop-up.   • Site crawler/spider that tosses results into mysql

    It's been suggested that we use mysql for our site's search as it'd be running on the same server that hosts our web server (nginx) and our db (mysql). Since not all of our pages are created from the database, it's been suggested that we have a crawler that can crawl the site, and toss the page url and data into mysql and have sphinx index on that. Does anyone know of an open source spider that has a mysql storing option out of the box. Thanks.

  • Disk Image Tools for Windows Server 2008

    I have a Windows Server 2008 X64 machine that I need to swap the boot drive on. I'd like to use a disk image/restore utility to make an image of the boot partition and restore that to the new drive. Does anyone know of a free or reasonably priced tool that can do this? I know that Acronis True Image will do it, but you need to have their server product to restore images of a server OS and it's prohibitively expensive ($850). Thanks, jon

  • Can I compile Passenger (mod_rails/mod_rack) to make a statically linked Apache httpd?

    I prefer to disable httpd dynamic module loading on my production server. I've been using mod_jk linked statically into httpd for quite a long time and it proved to be stable. Now I would like to add Ruby Passenger (mod_rails/mod_rack) to my httpd. I wonder if it is possible to link it statically into Apache httpd the same way too? (without producing a huge httpd) If it is, are there any potential pitfalls, safety or performance concerns having both mod_jk and mod_rails within the same executable? Thanks

  • How can I filter packets from a port monitor?

    I have some data going from Point A to Point B. I have a SPAN monitor set up to a monitoring device C. To recreate some real world scenarios, I want to filter out all traffic which is a certain type (H.323 VoIP Signaling Packets) so that C sees a subset of the information that is flowing from A to B. What would the easiest way to do this be? I assume I would need a computer with 2 NIC cards and some software to examine each packet and chuck out the H.323 VoIP packets? Thanks!

    Clients on our network recently started receiving this error when attemping to acquire an IP Address from our DHCP Server: "the name specified in the network control block (ncb) is in use on a remote adapter" The DHCP Server is a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine, most of the client are Win 7.   • Symantec site slow only when using a Mac?

    I didn't know this was possible but it certainly seems slow when only using a Mac. I participate in the Symantec Connect forums regularly and when I get on it with my Windows PC or laptop it loads perfectly, but my Mac laptop the site rarely loads or if it does it takes a couple minutes for each page. My question is why does a website run slower on the Mac vs PC? No other sites experience this same issue just the symantec connect forums. Thanks, Grant

  • need major webcam help for project!!

    hey guys i have a porject where i have to be able to view my webcam on my mobile phone, which happens to be a blackberry bold 9700 but can also get a hold of an i pod touch so either phone is ok to use. the problem that i have is that everytime i do a search for help on this i end up with a program which enevitably asks for money and this is not allowd in the project, ive been trying to stream using vlc player and viewing it on the opera mini for blackberry but no such luck so far, any help would be great thanks a lot

  • Multi-core DVD ripping/encoding on the Mac

    A friend of mine likes ripping DVDs to his Mac. He’s currently on an ancient machine, and is about to upgrade to either a MacBook Pro or an iMac. Just wondering if any of the Mac DVD ripping software will rip faster on the iMac (thanks to its four cores), as opposed to the MacBook Pro (a measly two cores)? Or is DVD ripping not that sort of task?
