• Jenkins plugin for different types of slaves

  We have some tests that need to be run on multiple types of specific hardware. Its possible that these tests might pass on some pieces of hardware but fail on others, and we want to know where they work and where they fail. So, for certain tests, we would like to provide a list of hardware they need to be tested on. We'd like to put all the needed hardware in a pool that Jenkins has access to, and then have Jenkins run the right tests on the right hardware, depending on the hardware list that comes with the test. And of course we'd like to keep track of which test worked where. Is there a plugin for Jenkins to be able to handle this sort of thing? Has anyone else solved this sort of problem?

(a) CourseList (b) CourseRec (c) string (d) char (e) none; the expression is syntactically invalid I thought that the answer would be string, since courseName is a string, or maybe even CourseRec, since it is in the struct, but the answer is (d)char. Why is this a char data type? Any help is greatly appreciated.

• The best way to display data in a table view?

  Hey guys, I'm trying to display nutritional information in a table view but am struggling about the best way to show the info. I don't want to create unique views for each page as that would take up a lot of space. My ideal avenue would be like a website having links to data pages instead of individual views for each page. How would I best implement that? For example, I would want the first page to be a list of restaurants, then as you press the restaurant it would list the different types of food...the next page would be a list of those foods and then the final page would be the nutrition info itself.   Hello, quick question: I'd like to create some custom data types, but I don't think I'm asking the right question(s). There are "compound Boolean" values used throughout .NET, and I want to design some of my own. I've been using a series of Boolean variables, which works, but just isn't the same. Examples from .NET include: Color.Black Alignment.Centered [fontProperties].Bold* *I forget the actual name, but you get the idea I want to make something like this: ColorSortQualities None DistinguishColor DistinguishNumberOfColors DistinguishColorPattern Once that's been declared, I could do this: if(searchOptions.ColorSortQualities == DistinguishColor) [do stuff] What is this called?   Say I wanted to customize an OpenFileDialog and change, for example, the way the filter for file extensions work, as in the case of this question. After I pointed out to the author of said question that the OpenFileDialog is not inheritable, I got a comment with the following: Even though the OpenFileDialog is sealed (not inheritable), you may use it as a nested type. For instance, using a property that will get the NativeDialog. Then, you write your method always using the NativeDialog property and you're done. My question is, can someone provide me with an example code on how would I proceed on doing something like that? I'm kind of new to the concept of nested types so I'm having a hard time figuring that out by myself, and I searched around the web and couldn't find anything too concrete about it. Thanks!

• List of fundamental data structures - what am I missing?

  I've been studying my fundamental data structures a bunch recently, trying to make sure I've got them down cold. By "fundamental", I mean the real basic ones. Fancy ones like Red-Black Trees and Bloom Filters are clearly worth knowing, but they're usually either enhancements of fundamental ones (Red-Black Trees are binary search trees with special properties to keep them balanced) or they're only useful in very specific situations (Bloom Filters). So far, I'm "fluent" in the following data structures: Arrays Linked Lists Stacks/Queues Binary Search Trees Heaps/Priority Queues Hash Tables However, I feel like I'm missing something. Are there any fundamental ones that I'm forgetting about? EDIT: Added these after posting the question Strings (suggested by catchmeifyoutry) Sets (suggested by Peter) Graphs (suggested by Nick D and aJ) B-Trees (Suggested by tloach) I'm a little on-the-fence about whether these are too fancy or not, but I think they're different enough from the fundamental structures (and important enough) to be worth studying as fundamental.

• Enumerating all combinations of lists of different types

  Given two IEnumberables of different types, what is the best practice (considering readability and maintainability) for iterating over both lists to perform an action on all possible combinations? My initial solution was to use nested foreach loops, iterating over the first IEnumerable, and then within that loop, iterating over the second IEnumerable and passing the value from the outer and the current loop into the target method. Eg.: enum ParamOne { First, Second, Etc } List<int> paramTwo = new List<int>() { 1, 2, 3 }; void LoopExample() { foreach (ParamOne alpha in Enum.GetValues(typeof(ParamOne))) { foreach (int beta in paramTwo) { DoSomething(alpha, beta); } } } I tried to restructure it with LINQ, but ended up with something that had no obvious advantages and seemed less intuitive. A search here shows lots of questions about nesting foreachs to iterate over child properties, but I couldn't find anything about iterating over two distinct lists.

  I have a site where most of my pages are arranged in business area folders, e.g. Activations, Outdoors, Branding. Each folder has a small web.config that protects the contents against access by people without a role for that business area. However, basic admin for most business areas is done via Dynamic Data pages. These are only basically protected by not appearing in the menu unless the user has the correct role, but they are still accessible directly via URL, because of the {table}/{Action} routing used by Dynamic Data. What can I do to protect these pages against direct access?

In Python 2.6.4: >> Decimal('0') > 9999.0 True From the answer to my original question I understand that when comparing objects of different types in Python 2.x the types are ordered by their name. But in this case: >> type(Decimal('0')).__name__ > type(9999.0).__name__ False Why is Decimal('0') > 9999.0 == True then? • C++ visitor pattern handling templated string types?

  I'm trying to use the visitor pattern to serialize the contents of objects. However one snag I'm hitting is when I'm visiting strings. My strings are of a templated type, similar to STL's basic_string. So something like: basic_string<char_type, memory_allocator, other_possible_stuff> \\ many variations possible! Since I can have very many different templated string types, I can't go and add them to my visitor interface. It would be ridiculous. But I can't add templates to my VisitString method because C++ prevents using templates parameters in virtual methods. So what are my options to work around this?

• Documenting and defining content types for a CMS or similar project

  I'm writing up some documentation on a Drupal project and my task is to define the content types and their attributes. The intended audience is project managers and developers. So it could be a high level document that gives an overview of the system. (I think that's how I describe it: high level rather than high detail) At the moment I'm using open office and bullet points but it seems like an amateurish method when I need to describe details that could be useful for a developer (me). Something like UML would describe detail but is probably more complicated than I need right now and could be too technical for others on the team. Are there any universal methods or templates that I can use to describe information in this case?

  I have a table [Users] with the following columns: INT SmallDateTime Bit Bit [UserId], [BirthDate], [Gender], [Active] Gender and Active are Bit that hold either 0 or 1. I am displaying this data in a table on my View. For the Gender I want to display 'Male' or 'Female', how and where do I manipulate the 1's and 0's? Is it done in the repository where I fetch the data or in the View? For the Active column I want to show a checkBox that will AutoPostBack on selection change and update the Active filed in the Database. How is this done without Ajax or jQuery?

  Hi - Is it possible to have an array that contains two different types of data? I want to have an array that contains a double and also a string. I attempted: ArrayList<double><String> array; But that didn't work. Sorry for the silly question, but it has been a while since I have used something like this.. Can you refresh my memory on how would I declare and populate such an array? And then to take it a step further, I would like to sort the array by the double if possible? Thanks!

• If I CFRelease() an image in core data, how do I get it back?

  My iphone app plays a slide show made up of 5 user images.  These images are stored using core data.  I was noticing that memory was building up every time a different slide show was played and it was not releasing any of the previously played slide shows.   These images are showing up in Object Allocations as CFData. So I tried releasing this data in the dealloc method CFRelease(slideshow.image1); CFRelease(slideshow.image2); CFRelease(slideshow.image3); CFRelease(slideshow.image4); CFRelease(slideshow.image5); This releases the previous slideshow great...BUT when I go back to view that same slideshow again, it crashes.   I am guessing that I need to alloc/init these images again, but I am not sure how?  Or maybe I should be managing this memory in a different way?

  If I want to create a 3-Layer ASP.Net application (Presentation Layer, Business Layer, Data Access Layer), where is the best place to create the Connection objects? So far I used a helper class in my Presentation Layer to create an IDbCommand from the ConnectionString in the web.config on each page and passed it on to the DAL classes/methods. Now I am not so sure, if this part shouldn't also be included in the DAL somehow, because it obviously is part of the Data Access. The DAL is in a separately compilated project, so I dont have access to the web.config and cannot access the connection string (right?). What is the best practice here?

While I'm sure this is documented somewhere, I don't know what term to use in searching for an explanation of what's being done here. I like the syntax methods like this let me use when calling them, but I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing, what the implications are, how to send parameters to these types of functions, etc? To clarify how I ended up in this position, I started using these methods in a "utilities" class of mine after reading some online blog describing the author's preference for declaring these functions this way. Now I can't seem to track down a more detailed explanation of what exactly the differences are, etc.

Another issue with the airport weather data is that the time data is saved in 12 hour format. • What are alternatives to standard ORM in a data access layer?

  We're all familiar with basic ORM with relational databases: an object corresponds to a row and an attribute in that object to a column (or some slight variation), though many ORMs add a lot of bells and whistles. I'm wondering what other alternatives there are (besides raw access to the database or whatever you're working with). Alternatives that just work with relational databases would be great, but ones that could encapsulate multiple types of backends besides just SQL (such as flat files, RSS, NoSQL, etc.) would be even better. I'm more interested in ideas rather than specific implantations and what languages/platforms they work with, but please link to anything you think is interesting.

• Visual C++ 2008 doesn't recognize Windows declared types

  I have a program that doesn't seem to recognize declared types in the latest U3D software. There's a line typedef BOOL (WINAPI* GMI)(HMON, LPMONITORINFOEX); which gets the error: Error 1 error C2061: syntax error : identifier 'LPMONITORINFOEX' c:\Projects\U3D\Source\RTL\Platform\Common\Win32\IFXOSRender.cpp 28 and a line MONITORINFOEX miMon; which gets Error 5 error C2065: 'miMon' : undeclared identifier c:\Projects\U3D\Source\RTL\Platform\Common\Win32\IFXOSRender.cpp 49 Error 3 error C2065: 'MONITORINFOEX' : undeclared identifier c:\Projects\U3D\Source\RTL\Platform\Common\Win32\IFXOSRender.cpp 49 The program's first non-comment statement is #include <windows.h>, which includes winuser.h, which defines these identifiers. In Visual Studio, I can right-click on them and go to the definition (a typedef) and from the typedef to the struct. WINAPI is defined in WinDef.h, so that seems to be working. There are no redefinitions of LPMONITORINFOEX or MONITORINFOEX in any other file. So, how can this be happening, and what can I do about it?
