    I've got a mysql dataset that contains 86 million rows. I need to have a relatively fast search through this data. The data I'll be searching through is all strings. I also need to do partial matches. Now, if I have 'foobar' and search for '%oob%' I know it'll be really slow - it has to look at every row to see if there is a match. What methods can be used to speed queries like this up? G-Man

    I made a method to rotate a list of points using quaternions, but all i get back as output is the same list i gave to rotate on. Maybe i did not understood corectly the math for 3d rotations or my code is not implemented the right way, could you give me a hand?     I have a PHP array of strings: ie: "Big green car parked outside"..etc I would like to perform boolean search operations on these strings, similar to MySQL fulltext searching , or Sphinx Searching. For example, I would like to find all strings containing word "green" but not "car" Does anyone know of any existing PHP classes or libraries which would help me accomplish this ?     I'm running a case-insensitive search on a table with 7.2 million rows, and I was wondering if there was any way to make this query any faster? Currently, it takes approx 11.6 seconds to execute, with just one search parameter, and I'm worried that as soon as I add more than one, this query will become massively slow.   • Need help with executing and deleting remote bash script via a local bash script

    I am trying to create a bash script that will scp a script to a remote server, ssh (using an ssh key that is already installed) to the remote server, execute the uploaded script, and then delete the remote script when it is finished. I'm not clear how to run an ssh session inside a bash script. Here are the commands I use to do it from the command line: scp my_script.sh [email protected]:/usr/home/user/ ssh [email protected] >sh my_script.sh >rm myscript.sh >exit How do I script the ssh portion of my command list?   • Device Manager in read-only remote mode when local

    Hello - since configuring a Windows Web Server 2008 R2 x64 to be hardened for an internet-facing deployment I receive this: "Device Manager is running in read-only mode because you are running it on a remote computer." when entering Device Manager. I have tried reversing the changes I have made, such as: Re-adding Client for Microsoft Networks Re-enabling NetBIOS over TCP-IP Re-adding File and Printer Sharing Disabling the Windows Firewall in all profiles (public, domain, private) I get no joy. It looks like a Microsoft ballsup. I'll try and use Process Monitor to have a look. Google returns only 1 page for this error. Luke

  • Access IIS Admin without local administrator rights

    We are running Microsoft Server 2003 with IIS. We would like to give our developers access to manage IIS (through IIS Admin) but do not want them to be administrators of the entire machine. Putting them in "Power Users" group does not seem to work. What permissions should we grant to our developers to allow them to manage IIS (e.g. add websites, modify app pools, etc.) without giving them full admin rights to the server?

  • Connecting to a remote server through OpenVPN when local network subnet conflicts with remote network's subnet

    After connecting to a remote location via OpenVPN, I am trying to access a server on a network that exists on a subnet such as 10.0.1.0/24. However, the network I am trying to access this remote server from is on the same subnet: 10.0.1.0/24. I am unable to connect to my remote server via typing in its IP because of this conflict. I am unable to even access the public internet while connected to the VPN. Does anyone know how to mitigate this issue? I have access to the OpenVPN Access Server.

    FOR RE-OPENING: I don’t see how it is “too localized”. Plenty of people like to run their own web-apps instead of relying on third-party services. If that were not true, then WordPress, phpBB, Apache, PHP, etc. would not be available for general use. As for “Internet audience at large”, I must have missed the part where it was a rule that you are only allowed to ask for help for things that applies to everyone else too; I thought you were allowed to ask for help. Besides, if someone knows of software that fulfills the question, then it is relevant to whomever would download it, and so is not only applicable to an “extraordinarily narrow situation”. (Besides, the reason that I was asking was because Google had announced that it was discontinuing FTP support for Blogger and so many people were affected—read NOT TOO LOCALIZED—and were trying to find alternatives.) Hi, I am trying to find software (for Windows, PHP, MySQL/SQLite/flat, free, open-source) to localize all of my software and service so that I can keep my files and host when needed from my own system instead of some remote computer. I’ve already selected things like web, FTP, and db servers. I’ve chosen forum and wiki software, as well as an RCS system. At this point, all I’m still looking for—actually, I still need to choose bug-tracking software, but besides that—is blogging software. I still use Blogger and am trying to find something that I can use to import my Blogger stuff and store on (and publish to) my home system. I have read of various blogging software including WordPress, MovableType, and TextPattern. The problem is that I am trying to find something that is like Blogger (which from what I can tell is not available on Google Code as open-source). What I specifically need is multiple-blog support. That is, multiple blogs ala the Blogger Dashboard, not multiple user accounts (although that is important as well). The closest thing that I have been able to find is using Wordpress categories to simulate multiple blogs, but that’s not really what I want. I want software that I can run locally that has a multi-blog dashboard like Blogger. Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

  • Configuration for a two machine ESXi cluster using VSA to present local storage to VMs

    I'm designing a little vSphere 5 cluster for one of our remote sites. We have some IBM x3650s that have 6x 300GB 10K RPM drives in them, along with dual quad core CPUs and 24GB RAM. Because we use HP P4500 G2s at our primary site, we have licenses available for HP P4000 VSAs. I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to use them. Below is a basic drawing of what I want to accomplish: I want to run a P4000 VSA on each server and run them in a Network RAID-10 (Lefthand speak for network mirroring, think of it as RAID 1 across nodes or as an active/active storage cluster). I will then present this storage to guests that will run on this mini-cluster. It will be managed by a vCenter Server on our main site. All connections will be GbE with two dedicated to storage. Management and Data will share a pair of connections, since I don't expect there to be high load. These servers are just there to provide directory services, dhcp, printing, etc. Does anyone see anything potentially wrong with this approach? Is this the best way to do this without adding additional dedicated storage heads? Are there any pitfalls in this design, besides the lack of dedicated Data/Mgmt interfaces?
