  • How to scale out image hosting/serving?

    I asked this question on stackoverflow and it was suggested that I try it here: I'm building a website where users can upload photos and I'd also convert uploaded photos into thumbnails. Planning ahead, if the website gets popular, how do I scale it out so that the images (both original and thumbnails) will be stored in and served from multiple servers? Maybe a cluster? Is there any open source software that would help me in this? Thanks.

    I have a 30 GB zip file containing an archive of digital materials available in the school library that I want to burn to DVD. Of course, 30 Gb is far too large for a single DVD and the content is already zipped. I'm open to ideas, but leaning towards suggestions that will help me automatically spread the file over multiple DVDs, including a simple program to stitch it back together again later.

    For some reasons i always get the following whenever i log into my terminal: : command not found : command not found : command not found : command not found : command not found It's really a minor problem because everything is working fine, or at least everything what im using in the terminal.   • UltraSurf not working, used to work on same network (and is working fine on friend's computer on same network)

    I'm using UltraSurf (10.17), it used to work fine but now its not working on my computer (Windows 7) and the window keeps showing "Connecting Server..." and after sometime, it fails to establish the connection. While, its working perfectly on the friend's computer on the same network. Any help will be appreciated. (Please note that using Proxifier would be my last option if I can't get UltraSurf working anyway).

The main problem is that because it has been stripped down, the ifconfig command has been stripped out, and I only can use the 'ip' busybox command.     I am running Windows 7 at my office and Windows XP at home. I have seen the new Remote Desktop and want to use (I have three monitors at office and three at home) In the specs I saw where in order to use the multimon features you must connect to a Windows 7 client (I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit in my office) When I connect to it (from XP running RDP 7) I can't get all my monitors to come up, just one Is there something I am doing wrong?     What I am trying to do is create two-step verification to logon to my mac, one being that you would need to input a SD card (formated with special format or something) and then also have a password. Is there any software out there that could do this or any way of programming it so that once it reads the SD Card it makes the password bar visible for logon.     I am a new Mac user and have an iMac. Coming from the Windows world where everything is installer based, OS X seems to mount .dmg files and run them. I've seen this happen prior to an install and later it requests us to move an icon to the Applications folder. Could someone help me unclutter the install process on OS X. What or how does it work?   • ubuntu gnome short cut keys

    Hi, I have done something quite silly and not sure how to fix it. I modified some of the gnome keyboard short cuts and was trying to disable the "Run Application" command. In the process I assigned it to the delete key and every time I hit delete the "Run Application" window comes up. It would not normally be a problem but the "Keyboard Shortcuts" no long has the short cut in the window so I can't disable it. Any help advice would be appreciated. Cheers Ben

For each new instance, I install the following softwares: etckeeper which keeps tracks of every changes in /etc shorewall to have a simple setup for firewall rsnapshot which keep incremental backup of important directories cron-apt takes charge of update of the system (or, in my case, send me an email to warn me about new updates) But I was wondering if you administrators have any other wonderful tools for daily management. I'm not talking about remote management (like cfengine) but little tools which help to manage a small number of Linux servers.
