  • Using argument (this) passed via element eventhandler

    - by Kel
    Hey guys, I want to use the argument I pass (this) in a JS function and treat it as an jQuery variable. Example: <script> function useMe(obj){ $(obj).val(); ... ... ... } </script> <select id="selectid" onChange="useMe(this)"> <option>......</option> </select> Is there a possibility to treat the passed argument as a jQuery element? Btw. I need to do it this way, because the select-element isn't created on load. The select element will be created later asynchronously. So, this won't work: $("select").each(function (i){ var select_id = $(this).attr("id"); $(this).change(function(e){ because it doesn't exist yet. Thanks for your help.

  • How to modify web page elements loaded in a browser

    - by Trilok
    I want to associate some actions with keys (of a keyboard) and then modify the contents of a webpage loaded in the browser. For example, I'll write a firefox plugin and that would be listening to some keyboard events. Based on a key press (or something like that) I want to modify the html code of the page. For example, I would like to change the color of a link. Any suggestions on how can I go about doing this?

  • Custom drop down

    - by Rob
    I'm trying to create a custom drop down and using the code below it works pretty well - only one problem is if i have more than one drop down, all the links will only activate the first drop down. Any ideas on how I would fix that? (and yes I know about Suckerfish I just need to get this to work) function toggle() { var ele = document.getElementById("dropdown-items"); var text = document.getElementById("dropdown-menu"); if(ele.style.display == "block") { ele.style.display = "none"; } else { ele.style.display = "block"; } }

  • Difference between arguments in setInterval calls

    - by Martin Janiczek
    What's the difference between these setInterval calls and which ones should be used? setInterval("myFunction()",1000) setInterval("myFunction",1000) setInterval(myFunction(),1000) setInterval(myFunction,1000) My guess is that JS uses eval() on the first two (strings) and calls the latter two directly. Also, I don't understand the difference between the calls with and without parentheses. The ones with parentheses call it directly and then periodically call its return value?

  • Problem with twitter API: cannot update status

    - by PainBringer
    I am trying to create Google Chrome extension that will send interesting links to twitter. But, I am unable to connect to the Twitter. The server gets my request, but the response is always the same: "You do not have permission to access /1/statuses/update.json on this server (403 Forbidden)." I am using Wireshark to inspect Http responses. Here is the code of the function i am using: function setStatus(msg) { var status = "status="+msg; var client = new XMLHttpRequest(); client.open("POST","http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/update.json"); client.setRequestHeader("Authorization", "Basic <user credentials>"); client.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); client.onreadystatechange = function(){ if(client.readyState ==4){ //whatever } } client.send(status); Am I doing something wrong? • Want to bind an input field to a jquery-ui slider handle

    - by BFTrick
    hello, I want to bind an input field to the jquery-ui slider handle. So whenever one value changes I want the other value to also change. Ex: if someone types 1000 into the minimum value input field I want the lower slider handle to move to the 1000 mark. Also if the user drags the lower slider handle to 1000 the input field should reflect that. Making the slider reflect the changes in the input field is easy: $(minYearInput).blur(function () { $("#yearSlider").slider("values", 0, parseInt($(this).val())); }); $(maxYearInput).blur(function () { $("#yearSlider").slider("values", 1, parseInt($(this).val())); }); I just need help making the text fields mimic the slider. $("#yearSlider").slider({ range: true, min: 1994, max: 2011, step: 1, values: [ 1994 , 2011 ], slide: function(event, ui) { //what goes here? } }); Any ideas? • Undefined variable error when parsing json

    - by Ben Shelock
    I'm trying to parse the json grabbed from here. Basically what I do is iterate over the items, sort them, then display them. But I get an error saying data.data.children[i] is undefined. I can't think why it's doing it though? var json = 'http://www.reddit.com/reddits/mine/.json'; GM_xmlhttpRequest({ method: "GET", url: json, onload: reddits }); function reddits(response){ var txt = response.responseText; var data; var suggested = document.getElementById('suggested-reddits'); if(window.JSON && JSON.parse){ data = JSON.parse(txt); } else{ data = eval("("+txt+")"); } suggested.innerHTML += '<span>reddits you\'re subscribed to </span> <ul id="rsub"></ul>'; GM_addStyle('#rsub{width: 500px;}'); var reddits = new Array(); var rsub = document.getElementById('rsub'); for(i = 0; i <= data.data.children.length; i++){ var r = data.data.children[i].data.display_name; reddits.push(r); } sort(reddits); for(i = 0; i <= reddits.length; i++){ rsub.innerHTML += '<li><a href="#" onclick="set_sr_name(this); return false">' + reddits[i] + '</a></li>'; } }

  • How do I get HTML Markup for createRange() in Firefox

    - by OneNerd
    I am currently using code similar to this: try { // IE ONLY var theElement = "myElementName"; window.frames[theElement].focus(); var selection = window.frames[theElement].document.selection.createRange(); alert ( selection.htmlText ); } catch(e) { var selection = window.frames[theElement].document.getSelection(); alert ( selection ); } As you can see, I am accessing a node from an iframe (no fun already). I am definitely in new territory here, so am sure there are more issues to arise, but right now, I am trying to get Firefox to give me the same result as IE. In IE, I can access the HTML code of the selection by using the (apparently IE-only) htmlText property of the object returned by createRange(). What I am looking for is the Firefox equivalent to that (or a function that I can use to give me the same result). Anyone know how to do this?

  • firefox reading web page from local JS file -- access to restricted URI denied, code: 1012, nsresult

    - by macias
    My problem is -- I have a html file which is really JS program, which reads web pages and show them in customized manner (i.e. it displays the same content in a different way). Basically, I create XMLHttpRequest object and then req.open("GET", web_page_address, false); req.send(""); This gives me (in firefox) an error: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Access to restricted URI denied" code: "1012" nsresult: "0x805303f4 (NS_ERROR_DOM_BAD_URI)" I already googled, and looked at SO but all other issues are very similar with those two exceptions: the file I open in firefox is a local file, opened directly in browser -- I don't have www server running at localhost I don't have any control over the web pages I am reading stuff from So, several solutions I've seen so far (like adding PHP proxy, changing the way external server sends data) cannot be applied here. What else can be done in such case? Another story is I am wondering if such strict security for directly local file has any sense. Thank you in advance for tips/links/etc. Have a nice day!

  • making certain cells of an ExtJS GridPanel un-editable

    - by synchronicity
    I currently have a GridPanel with the Ext.ux.RowEditor plugin. Four fields exist in the row editor: port, ip address, subnet and DHCP. If the DHCP field (checkbox) of the selected row is checked, I need to make the other three fields un-editable. I've been trying to perform this code when the beforeedit event is triggered, but to no avail... I've only found ways to make the entire column un-editable. My code so far: this.rowEditor.on({ scope: this, beforeedit: this.checkIfEditable }); checkIfEditable:function(rowEditor, rowIndex) { if(this.getStore().getAt(rowIndex).get('dhcp')) { // this function makes the entire column un-editable: this.getColumnModel().setEditable(2, false); // I want to make only the other three fields of the current row // uneditable. } } Please let me know if any clarification is needed. Any help potentially extending RowEditor to accomplish the target functionality would be greatly appreciated as well!

  • Cross-reference js-object variables when creating object

    - by Ivar Bonsaksen
    Summary: I want to know if it is possible to do something like this: {a: 'A',b: this.a} ...by using some other pointer like {a: 'A',b: self.a} or {a: 'A',b: own.a} or anything else... Full question: I'm trying to extend MyBaseModule using Ext.extend, and need to cross-reference values in the extension object passed to Ext.extend(). Since I'm not yet in context of MyModule, I'm not able to use this to reference the object (See example below line 12). Is there any other way to reference values like this without creating the object first? 1 MyModule = Ext.extend(MyBaseModule, { 2 dataStores: { 3 myDataStore: new Ext.data.Store({...}) 4 }, 5 6 myGridDefinition: { 7 id: 'myGridDefinitionPanel', 8 bodyBorder: false, 9 items: [{ 10 xtype: 'grid', 11 id: 'myGridDefinitionGrid', 12 store: this.dataStores.myDataStore 13 }] 14 } 15 }); Or is the following the only solution? I would like to avoid this if possible, as I find it less readable for large extension definitions. 1 var extensionObject = { 2 dataStores: { 3 myDataStore: new Ext.data.Store({...}) 4 }, 5 6 myGridDefinition: { 7 id: 'myGridDefinitionPanel', 8 bodyBorder: false, 9 items: [{ 10 xtype: 'grid', 11 id: 'myGridDefinitionGrid' 12 }] 13 } 14 }; 15 16 extensionObject.locationsGrid.items[0].store = extensionObject.dataStores.locations; 17 18 MyModule = Ext.extend(MyBaseModule, extensionObject);

  • Display multiple new windows

    - by Ricardo Deano
    Afternoon all. I have the following scenario: I have a search page where by a client searches for a product from a drop down list, upon clicking a button, a gridview is produced display the spec. What I would like is the functionality for the user to make their selection and a new window pops up with the spec. So I have a simple code behind for the search page: protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Session["Product"] = DropDownList1.SelectedValue; string strScript = "window.open('GridViewPage.aspx', 'Key', 'height=500,width=800,toolbar=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,titlebar=no');"; ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, typeof(string), "", strScript, true); } And a gridviewpage that presents the data based upon the session created in the search page: <asp:GridView ID="GridView2" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataSourceID="LinqDataSource1"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="Product" HeaderText="MemberID" SortExpression="MemberID" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Spec" HeaderText="Spec" SortExpression="Spec" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> <asp:LinqDataSource ID="LinqDataSource1" runat="server" ContextTypeName="GridViewInNewWindow.ProductDataContext" EntityTypeName="" TableName="tblProducts" Where="Product == @Product"> <WhereParameters> <asp:SessionParameter Name="Product" SessionField="Product" Type="String" /> </WhereParameters> </asp:LinqDataSource> Now upon first iteration, this does the job...gridview presented in new window...hurrah! i.e. a user searches for egg, the spec for an egg is presented in a new window. However, what I would like to happen is that the user can make multiple searches so a number of new windows are opened. i.e. a user searches for egg once, the spec is returned in a new window; they then wish to see the spec for a chicken, so they use the search page to find said chicken, click the button and another new window is shown displaying the chicken's specs. Does anyone know how I can achieve this? Apologies if this is simple stuff, I am just finding my feet.

  • How do i make a allocation table?

    - by david
    I have build a grid of div's as playground for some visual experiments. In order to use that grid, i need to know the x and y coordinates of each div. That's why i want to create a table with the X and Y position of each div. X:0 & Y:0 = div:eq(0), X:0 Y:1 = div:eq(1), X:0 Y:2 = div:eq(2), X:0 Y:3 = div:eq(3), X:1 Y:0 = div:eq(4) etc.. What is the best way to do a table like that? Creating a OBJECT like this: { 00: 0, 01: 1, 02: 2, etc.. } or is it better to create a array? position[0][0] = 0 the thing is i need to use the table in multiple way's.. for example the user clicked the div nb: 13 what are the coordinates of this div or what is the eq of the div x: 12 y: 5. Thats how i do it right now: var row = 0 var col = 0 var eq = 0 c.find('div').each(function(i){ // c = $('div#stage') if (i !=0 && $(this).offset().top != $(this).prev().offset().top){ row++ col = 0 } $(this).attr({'row': row, 'col': col }) col++ }) I think it would be faster to build a table with the coordinates, instead of adding them as attr or data to the DOM. but i cant figure out how to do this technically. How would you solve this problem width JS / jQuery?
