  • Datamapper, defining your own object methods, how?

    So lets say I have a class like below class List include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :username, String def self.my_username return self[:username] end end list=List.create(:username=>,'jim') list.my_username When I run this it tells me that the method cannot be found, and on more investigation that you can only define class methods(not object methods) and that class methods don't have access to objects data. Is there any way to have these methods included as object methods and get access to object data? I'm using Ruby 1.8.6 and the latest version of datamapper.

Screen size, Javascript, SpportsTouchScreen etc. are all in MBDF along with others but I'm not sure where to draw the line and where the data is most accurate for the broad number of devices. What do those of you out there developing for this spread of hardware & software split on? Thanks, Denis P.S.   • Detect WebKit Version 525 and Below With RegEx

    I'm no good at Regular Expressions, really! I would like to specifically detect WebKit browsers below version 525. I have a regular expression [/WebKit\/[\d.]+/.exec(navigator.appVersion)] that correctly returns WebKit/5….…, really, I'd like it to return only the version number, but if the browser isn't WebKit, return null, or better still 0. For example, if the browser was Trident, Presto or Gecko, return null, whereas if the browser is WebKit, return it's version number. To clarify, I would like the regular expression to check if navigator.appVersion contains WebKit and if it does not, return null, if it does, return the version number. I appreciate all your help! Please let's keep this focused, let's not flirt with jQuery or the sort, it's overkill in this scenario.

    I'm passing an object to a WCF service and wasn't getting anything back. I checked the variable as it gets passed to the method that actually does the work and noticed that none of the values are set on the object at that point. Here's the object: [DataContract] public class Section { [DataMember] public long SectionID { get; set; } [DataMember] public string Title { get; set; } [DataMember] public string Text { get; set; } [DataMember] public int Order { get; set; } } Here's the service code for the method: [OperationContract] public List<Section> LoadAllSections(Section s) { return SectionRepository.Instance().LoadAll(s); } The code that actually calls this method is this and is located in a Silverlight XAML file: SectionServiceClient proxy = new SectionServiceClient(); proxy.LoadAllSectionsCompleted += new EventHandler<LoadAllSectionsCompletedEventArgs>(proxy_LoadAllSectionsCompleted); Section s = new Section(); s.SectionID = 4; proxy.LoadAllSectionsAsync(s); When the code finally gets into the method LoadAllSections(Section s), the parameter's SectionID is not set. I stepped through the code and when it goes into the generated code that returns an IAsyncResult object, the object's properties are set. But when it actually calls the method, LoadAllSections, the parameter received is completely blank. Is there something I have to set to make the proeprty stick between method calls?

  • Saving twice don't update my object in JDO

    Hello I have an object persisted in the GAE datastore using JDO. The object looks like this: public class MyObject implements Serializable, StoreCallback { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) @Extension(vendorName="datanucleus", key="gae.encoded-pk", value="true") private String id; @Persistent private String firstId; ... } As usually when the object is stored for the first time a new id value is generated for the identifier. I need that if I don't provide a value for firstId it sets the same value as the id. I don't want to solve it with a special getter which checks for null value in firstId and then return the id value because I want to make queries relating on firstId. I can do it in this way by saving the object twice (Probably there's a better way to do this, but I'll do it in this way until I find a better one). But it is not working. when I debug it I can see that result.firstId is set with the id value and it seems to be persisted, but when I go into the datastore I see that firstId is null (as it was saved the first time). This save method is in my DAO and it is called in another save method in the service annotated with @Transactional.     Hi, I have query regarding the disposing of an object. The scenario is as follows. In a Desktop Appication, developed in C#, I have a function in which a object in created like this. namespace Class 1 { variables section; .... .... Function1() { local variables; try { Object1 obj = new Object1(); .... .... if(true) { .... } else { **obj.Dispose();** } } catch() {} finally {} } } The object is not disposed when the else part is executed. The msdn link for this is http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.componentmodel.component.dispose(VS.90).aspx according to which the component should realase all the resources used by it.   • Response.Redirect in a COM+ Object Called from Classic ASP Page

    Basically we moved from IIS 5 to IIS 7 and I am trying to update some of our old COM objects to .NET by rewriting them in C#. What I am have so far is a Classic ASP page calling the COM+ object and then I am trying to do a simple redirect within the COM+ object (this is just for testing purposes, it's not what the object will do eventually). My problem/question is, why does the redirect call not work properly? Am I doing something wrong or can you not redirect within a COM+ object? All that happens is a blank white page comes up and if I check the IIS logs, I see no errors.   • How can a program be detected as running?

    I have written a program that is sort of an unofficial, standalone plugin for an application. It allows customers to get a service that is a lower priced alternative then the vendor-owned one. My program is not illegal, against any kind of TOS, and is certainly not a virus, adware, or anything like that. That being said, the vendor of course is not happy about me taking his competition, and is trying to block my application from running. He has already tried some tactics to stop people from running my app alongside his. He makes it so if it is detected, his app throws a fake error. First, he checked to see if my program was running by looking for an open window with the right title. I countered this by randomizing the program title at startup. Next, he looked for the running process name. I countered this by making the app copy itself when it is started as [random string].exe and then running that. Anyways, my question is this: what else can he do to detect if my program running? I know that you can read window text (ie status bar, labels). I'm prepared to counter this by replacing the labels with images (ugh, any other way?). But what else is there? Can you detect what .dlls a program has loaded? If so, could this be solved by randomizing the dll names before loading them? I know that it's possible to get a program's signature in memory and track it that way (like a virus scanner), but the chances of him doing that probably aren't good because that sounds pretty advanced. Even though this is kinda crappy of him to be doing, its kind of fun. It's like a nerdy fist fight. EDIT: When I said it's a plugin, that is just the (incorrect) term I used. It's a standalone EXE. The "API" between my program and the other is mine is simply entering data into the controls (like textboxes, etc).

    How would one go about keep an object in memory such that it won't be paged out by the OS in .Net? i.e. Something similar to VirtualLock, but operating on an object, such that if compacting occurs and the object is moved it still would not be paged out, etc.. (I suppose one could pin the object's, determine what pages it belongs to, and then VirtualLock those pages, but that seems non-desireable for many reasons.) If possible, could you point me to a reference or working sample? (C# ideally) Many thanks in advance!

  • Overlapping labels in Qt fridge magnets example

    I want to modify the fridge magnets example provided with Qt in a way that when I drag a label and drop it over another, it will push the label beneath the dragged label to the side, so they will never overlap one another. I've seen how collision is detected in the colliding mice example, where it uses a QGraphicsScene to draw the QGraphicsItem mice on, and scene()-collidingItems(this) to see which mice are colliding. The problem is that the fridge magnets example uses a class that inherits QWidget in place of QGraphicsScene, so there's no collidingItems() method to check when we have a collision. How do I go about doing that?

  • binary file formats: need for error correction?

    I need to serialize some data in a binary format for efficiency (datalog where 10-100MB files are typical), and I'm working out the formatting details. I'm wondering if realistically I need to worry about file corruption / error correction / etc. What are circumstances where file corruption can happen? Should I be building robustness to corruption into my binary format? Or should I wrap my nonrobust-to-corruption stream of bytes with some kind of error correcting code? (any suggestions? I'm using Java) Or should I just not worry about this?
