    i've just solved the blue screen problem after "preparing your desktop" on windows 2008 server with your help (http://serverfault.com/questions/410570/server-2008-blue-screen-after-login-no-desktop) but unfortuneletly for me i did many things before that through gpedit.msc specifically to restrict user access to windows programs, control panel, regedit, msconfig ... but when i finally can log on even with administrator i cant open anything at all... and the message at title always came up.. please help me i cant open anything, regedit, mmc, any administrative tools ....

    I would like to hear some”real life experience” suggestions if foreign key restrictions are good or bad thing to enforce in DB. I would kindly ask students/beginners to refrain from jumping and answering quickly and without thinking. At the beginning of my career I thought that stupidest thing you can do is disregard the referential integrity. Today, after "few" projects I'm thinking different. Quite different. What do you think: Should we enforce foreign key restrictions or not? *Please explain your answer.

  • Windows 2003 GPO Software Restrictions

    We're running a Terminal Server farm in a Windows 2003 Domain, and I found a problem with the Software Restrictions GPO settings that are being applied to our TS servers. Here are the details of our configuration and the problem: All of our servers (Domain Controllers and Terminal Servers) are running Windows Server 2003 SP2 and both the domain and forest are at Windows 2003 level. Our TS servers are in an OU where we have specific GPO's linked and have inheritance blocked, so only the TS specific GPO's are applied to these TS servers. Our users are all remote and do not have workstations joined to our domain, so we don't use loopback policy processing. We take a "whitelist" approach to allowing users to run applications, so only applications that we approve and add as path or hash rules are able to run. We have the Security Level in Software Restrictions set to Disallowed and Enforcement is set to "All software files except libraries". What I've found is that if I give a user a shortcut to an application, they're able to launch the application even if it's not in the Additional Rules list of "whitelisted" applications. If I give a user a copy of the main executable for the application and they attempt to launch it, they get the expected "this program has been restricted..." message. It appears that the Software Restrictions are indeed working, except for when the user launches an application using a shortcut as opposed to launching the application from the main executable itself, which seems to contradict the purpose of using Software Restrictions. My questions are: Has anyone else seen this behavior? Can anyone else reproduce this behavior? Am I missing something in my understanding of Software Restrictions? Is it likely that I have something misconfigured in Software Restrictions? EDIT To clarify the problem a little bit: No higher level GPO's are being enforced. Running gpresults shows that in fact, only the TS level GPO's are being applied and I can indeed see my Software Restictions being applied. No path wildcards are in use. I'm testing with an application that is at "C:\Program Files\Application\executable.exe" and the application executable is not in any path or hash rule. If the user launches the main application executable directly from the application's folder, the Software Restrictions are enforced. If I give the user a shortcut that points to the application executable at "C:\Program Files\Application\executable.exe" then they are able to launch the program. EDIT Also, LNK files are listed in the Designated File Types, so they should be treated as executable, which should mean that they are bound by the same Software Restrictions settings and rules.

    URL Rewrite offers tremendous flexibility for customizing rules to your environment. One area of functionality that is often desired for URL Rewrite is to allow a large list of approved or denied IP addresses and subnet ranges. IIS’s original IP Restrictions is helpful for fully blocking an IP address, but it doesn’t offer the flexibility that URL Rewrite does. An example where URL Rewrite is helpful is where you want to allow only authorized IPs to access staging.yoursite.com, but where staging.yoursite.com is part of the same site as www.yoursite.com. This requires conditional logic for the user’s IP. This lesson covers this unique situation while also introducing Rewrite Maps, server variables, and pairing rules to add more flexibility.   • 3D Studio Max biped restrictions?

    I have a stock biped character in 3D studio max which has a jump animation. The problem I have with the jump animation is that there is actual y offset happening inside it which makes it awkward to play while the character is jumping since it's not only jumping in the game world but the jump animation is adding its own height offset. I'm tryuing to remove the jump animations height offset, so far I've found the root node and deleted all its key frames which has helped a bit. The problem I'm having now is that the character still has some height offset and if I try to lower it it has a fake 'ground' that isn't at 0 and the limbs sort of bend on the imaginary floor, si there a way to remove this restriction just for the jump animation?   • Producer-consumer pattern with consumer restrictions

    I have a processing problem that I am thinking is a classic producer-consumer problem with the two added wrinkles that there may be a variable number of producers and there is the restriction that no more than one item per producer may be consumed at any one time. I will generally have 50-100 producers and as many consumers as CPU cores on the server. I want to maximize the throughput of the consumers while ensuring that there are never more than one work item in process from any single producer. This is more complicated than the classic producer-consumer problem which I think assumes a single producer and no restriction on which work items may be in progress at any one time. I think the problem of multiple producers is relatively easily solved by enqueuing all work items on a single work queue protected by a critical section. I think the restriction on simultaneously processing work items from any single producer is harder because I cannot think of any solution that does not require each consumer to notify some kind of work dispatcher that a particular work item has been completed so as to lift the restriction on work items from that producer. In other words, if Consumer2 has just completed WorkItem42 from Producer53, there needs to be some kind of callback or notification from Consumer2 to a work dispatcher to allow the work dispatcher to release the next work item from Producer53 to the next available consumer (whether Consumer2 or otherwise). Am I overlooking something simple here? Is there a known pattern for this problem? I would appreciate any pointers.

    So basicly I want to use MPL 2.0 for my open source software but I also want to forbid commercial use. I'm not a legal expert, that's why I'm asking. Should I use dual-license (MPL + Modified BSD License)? Or what does sublicensing mean? If I wanted to license my project, I would include a notice to the header. What should I do if want to dual-license or sublicense? Also, is it OK to use nicknames as copyright owners? I am not able to distribute additional files (e.g LICENSE.txt, README.md etc) with the software simply because it is just a JS script. By open-source I mean not obfuscated JS code. So in this case, am I forced to use GPL to make redistribution of obfuscated work illegal? Thanks for reading, any help is appreciated, answering all of the questions is not essential.

These Restrictions are used in several places/queries so a method was setup similar to public Criteria addStandardCriteria(Criteria criteria, ...) { // Add restrictions, create aliases based on parameters // and other non-trivial logic criteria.add(...); return criteria; } This has worked fine so far, but now this standard criteria needs to be added to a subquery using DetachedCriteria. I spent some time researching this since yesterday and finally traced this down to a few posts on several website that use the System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntr class. Using the examples I found, I can add or deny IPs or domains under Connection control but not Relay Restrictions. What would be the commands in C# to add IPs to the Relay Restrictions?     I'm trying to get a VPN set up with internal access only sites. I have set up a VPN on a windows server (single VPS server), and I can connect from a remote computer and I get an IP assigned correctly (from 192.168.1.1 - 255) Next I configured IIS (running on the same machine) IP Address and Domain Restrictions to only allow only IP address range 192.168.1.0 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 When I connect to the VPN with "Use Default Gateway on Remote Network" (so that requests must go through the vpn), I get a 403 from the internal sites. What did I miss?

Whenever I click on ANY link (that exists on a Word document, excel or Outlook), I get an alert box with the message: "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer" I have been scouring my settings and the internet for a solution, but to no avail. Has anybody else encounted this problem? It even happens when I click anchors in word documents i.e. I can't even click on an entry in a Table of Contents to go to the appropriate page - I get this same error then. Is this a Windows 7 thing? Anyway to turn this off?

    I have a linksys WRT54GL router with a DD-WRT installed and I want to setup some advanced filtering that seem to not be available through "Access restrictions" web gui option. I guess I would be using IPTABLES then. I have ssh access to router and can run iptables, but I'm not so experienced with iptables. So here are my needs: my policy would be deny all first and then allow exceptions allow all http (port 80) access to WAN through wireless allow all other traffic only to PCs with specific MAC addresses allow internet access to PC with specific MAC address according to schedule (let's say everyday between 18:00-21:00) is this possible to setup with IPtables? could somebody help me a bit with it? or should go and RTFM?

  • SBS 2008 File access restrictions after 5:30PM

    Hi there, SBS 2008, I have an issue whereby a user can't access a file after 5:30PM. They get the message: "cannot be accessed. The file may be corrupted, located on a server that is not responding, or read only I've checked the logon hours on the AD User account in question and there's no restrictions there. I have noticed that the account in question does not appear in the SBS Console, only in ADUC which means the account wasn't added using the wizard. It's a long shot but would that make a difference? Other than that I'm pretty stumped, any suggestions welcomed. Thanks
