  • Speaking this week at Richmond SQL Server User Group

    - by drsql
Thursday night, at 6:00 (or so) I will be speaking in Richmond ( http://richmondsql.org/cs2007/ ), talking about How to Implement a Hierarchy using SQL Server. The abstract is: One of the most common structures you will come across in the real world is a hierarchy (either a single parent "tree" or a multi-parent "graph"). Many systems will implement the obvious examples, such as a corporate managerial structure or a bill of materials. It turns out that almost any many-to-many relationship can be...(read more)

    - by John Blumenauer
The code and slides from my Developing WPF Applications using Model-View-ViewModel session at Richmond Code Camp can be found HERE. During the session, a number of the attendees had some really great questions which tells me they’re really thinking about how to start using MVVM in their own apps.  I’ll be interested to hear feedback as they start investigating and introducing MVVM in their applications.  If you experience any problems downloading the slides or code, please let me know.

  • Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission failed

    - by Richmond
Hi All! I have asp.net application, using LINQ to connecto to SQL Server 2008 R2 databse. My connection string: Data Source=[SqlServerIp];Initial Catalog=[databaseName]User Id=newLogin;Password=newPassword; When I deploy application on my local IIS (which is not the same machine as database server) it works fine, but when I deploy application on other IIS (the same machine as sqlServer) it throws an exception: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. Anyone knows how to fix it? Maybe it is due to some bad configuration of IIS? Please help.

  • Get to Know a Candidate (3 of 25): Virgil Goode&ndash;Constitution Party

    - by Brian Lanham
DISCLAIMER: This is not a post about “Romney” or “Obama”. This is not a post for whom I am voting. Information sourced for Wikipedia. Meet Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party Goode was served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from 1997 to 2009. He represented the 5th congressional district of Virginia. Goode was born in Richmond, Virginia, the son of Alice Clara (née Besecker) and Virgil Hamlin Goode. He has spent most of his life in Rocky Mount. Goode graduated with a B.A. from the University of Richmond (Phi Beta Kappa) and with a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He also is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and served in the Army National Guard from 1969 to 1975. Goode grew up as a Democrat. He entered politics soon after graduating from law school. At the age of 27, he won a special election to the state Senate from a Southside district as an independent after the death of the Democratic incumbent. One of his major campaign focuses at the time was advocacy for the Equal Rights Amendment. Soon after being elected, he joined the Democrats. Goode wore his party ties very loosely. He became famous for his support of the tobacco industry, expressing his fear that "his elderly mother would be denied 'the one last pleasure' of smoking a cigarette on her hospital deathbed." He was an ardent defender of gun rights while being an enthusiastic supporter of L. Douglas Wilder, who later became the first elected black governor in the history of the United States. At the Democratic Party's state political convention in 1985, Goode nominated Wilder for lieutenant governor. However, while governor, Wilder cracked down on the sale of guns in the state. After the 1995 elections resulted in a 20–20 split between Democrats and Republicans in the State Senate, Goode seriously considered voting with the Republicans on organizing the chamber. Had he done so, the State Senate would have been under Republican control for the first time since Reconstruction (the Republicans ultimately won control outright in 1999). Goode's actions at the time "forced his party to share power with Republican lawmakers in the state legislature," which further upset the Democratic Party. Goode is on the ballot in CA, FL, ID, IO, LA, MI, MN, MS, MI, NJ, NM, NY, NV, ND, OH, SC, SD, TN, UT, VA, WA, WI, WY.  He is a write-in candidate in CA, CT, DC, GA, IL, IN, ME, MD, MA, MO, NC, TX, VT, WV Constitution Party This party was founded as the “U.S. Taxpayers’ Party” and considers itself conservative. The party's platform is predicated on the principles of the nation's founding documents. The party puts a large focus on immigration, calling for stricter penalties towards illegal immigrants and a moratorium on legal immigration until all federal subsidies to immigrants are discontinued. The party absorbed the American Independent Party, originally founded for George Wallace's 1968 presidential campaign. The American Independent Party of California has been an affiliate of the Constitution Party since its founding; however, current party leadership is disputed and the issue is in court to resolve this conflict. The Constitution Party has some substantial support from the Christian Right and in 2010 achieved major party status in Colorado. Learn more about Virgil Goode and Constitution Party on Wikipedia.

  • How can I line up columns with Perl's printf when the value might be a number or a string?

    - by user317203
    I am trying to output a document that looks like this (more at http://pastebin.com/dpBAY8Sb): 10.1.1.1 100 <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> 72.12.148.186 94 Canada Hamilton ON 43.250000 -79.833300 0.00 72.68.209.149 24 United States Richmond Hill NY 40.700500 -73.834500 611.32 72.192.33.34 4 United States Rocky Hill CT 41.657800 -72.662700 657.48 I cannot find how to format the output I have to have a floating poing and format the distance between columns. My current code looks something like this. if (defined $longitude){ printf FILE ("%-8s %.6f","",$longitude); }else{ $longitude = "<unknown>"; printf FILE ("%-20s ",$longitude); } The extra "" throws off the whole column and it looks like this (more at http://pastebin.com/kcwHyNwb). 10.1.1.1 100 <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> <unknown> 72.12.148.186 94 Canada Hamilton ON 43.250000 -79.833300 0.00 72.68.209.149 24 United States Richmond Hill NY 40.700500 -73.834500 571.06

  • Developing a SQL Server Function in a Test-Harness.

    - by Phil Factor
/* Many times, it is a lot quicker to take some pain up-front and make a proper development/test harness for a routine (function or procedure) rather than think ‘I’m feeling lucky today!’. Then, you keep code and harness together from then on. Every time you run the build script, it runs the test harness too.  The advantage is that, if the test harness persists, then it is much less likely that someone, probably ‘you-in-the-future’  unintentionally breaks the code. If you store the actual code for the procedure as well as the test harness, then it is likely that any bugs in functionality will break the build rather than to introduce subtle bugs later on that could even slip through testing and get into production.   This is just an example of what I mean.   Imagine we had a database that was storing addresses with embedded UK postcodes. We really wouldn’t want that. Instead, we might want the postcode in one column and the address in another. In effect, we’d want to extract the entire postcode string and place it in another column. This might be part of a table refactoring or int could easily be part of a process of importing addresses from another system. We could easily decide to do this with a function that takes in a table as its parameter, and produces a table as its output. This is all very well, but we’d need to work on it, and test it when you make an alteration. By its very nature, a routine like this either works very well or horribly, but there is every chance that you might introduce subtle errors by fidding with it, and if young Thomas, the rather cocky developer who has just joined touches it, it is bound to break.     right, we drop the function we’re developing and re-create it. This is so we avoid the problem of having to change CREATE to ALTER when working on it. */ IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM sys.objects WHERE name LIKE ‘ExtractPostcode’                                      and schema_name(schema_ID)=‘Dbo’)     DROP FUNCTION dbo.ExtractPostcode GO   /* we drop the user-defined table type and recreate it */ IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM sys.types WHERE name LIKE ‘AddressesWithPostCodes’                                    and schema_name(schema_ID)=‘Dbo’)   DROP TYPE dbo.AddressesWithPostCodes GO /* we drop the user defined table type and recreate it */ IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM sys.types WHERE name LIKE ‘OutputFormat’                                    and schema_name(schema_ID)=‘Dbo’)   DROP TYPE dbo.OutputFormat GO   /* and now create the table type that we can use to pass the addresses to the function */ CREATE TYPE AddressesWithPostCodes AS TABLE ( AddressWithPostcode_ID INT IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY, –because they work better that way! • php - sort the unsorted text file and rewrite to same text file in sorted order

    - by arrgggg
Hi, I have a question. I am in process of learning how to read/write files, but having little trouble trying to do both at the same time in same php script. I have a text file with words like this, Richmond,Virginia Seattle,Washington Los Angeles,California Dallas,Texas Jacksonville,Florida I wrote a code to sort them in order and this will display in sort order by City. <?php $file = file("states.txt"); sort($file); for($i=0; $i<count($file); $i++) { $states = explode(",", $file[$i]); echo $states[0], $states[1],"<br />"; } ?> From this, how can I rewrite those sorted information back into the states.txt file? Thanks for your help.

  • Transportation Web App - utilizing google or bing map api

    - by BillS
I am working on a transportation web app and I am having a bit of a problem. First, I want to be able to define a shipping corridor, say like I-95 between Baltimore MD and Richmond VA. And store what parameters I need to define this route. Users will then use a web interface and can select various routes, in this case, I-95. Vendors will be posting constantly changing pickup locations in the application database which have a shelf life of about 2 days. Some of these locations maybe along this route. I am storing the LAT and LONG for the specific location right now. If any of these points ARE along or within 2 mile of the route (just off the highway basically - the ideal check would based on an actual highway exit but at this point anything would work), I want them to show up in my search results. Any ideas or suggestions?

  • php split array into smaller even arrays

I thought I could remove the duplicates using a multi-dimensional remove duplicate function but that didn't work. I'm guessing my problem is in the array_split function. Any suggestions? :)

  • php remove duplicates from array..

    - by SoulieBaby
    Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me out, I'm trying to find a script that will check my entire array and remove any duplicates if required, then spit out the array in the same format. Here's an example of my array (as you will see there are some duplicates): Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 34 [name] => Adrianos Pizza & Pasta [imageurl] => sp_adrian.gif [clickurl] => # ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 42 [name] => Ray White Mordialloc [imageurl] => sp_raywhite.gif [clickurl] => http://www.raywhite.com/ ) [2] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 48 [name] => Beachside Osteo [imageurl] => sp_beachside.gif [clickurl] => http://www.beachsideosteo.com.au/ ) [3] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 57 [name] => Southern Suburbs Physiotherapy Centre [imageurl] => sp_sspc.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.sspc.com.au ) [4] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 52 [name] => Mordialloc Travel and Cruise [imageurl] => sp_morditravel.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.yellowpages.com.au/vic/mordialloc/mordialloc-travel-cruise-13492525-listing.html ) [5] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 37 [name] => Mordialloc Cellar Door [imageurl] => sp_cellardoor.gif [clickurl] => ) [6] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 53 [name] => Carmotive [imageurl] => sp_carmotive.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.carmotive.com.au/ ) ) [1] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 55 [name] => 360South [imageurl] => sp_360.jpg [clickurl] => ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 40 [name] => Ripponlea Mitsubishi [imageurl] => sp_mitsubishi.gif [clickurl] => ) [2] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 57 [name] => Southern Suburbs Physiotherapy Centre [imageurl] => sp_sspc.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.sspc.com.au ) [3] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 52 [name] => Mordialloc Travel and Cruise [imageurl] => sp_morditravel.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.yellowpages.com.au/vic/mordialloc/mordialloc-travel-cruise-13492525-listing.html ) [4] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 37 [name] => Mordialloc Cellar Door [imageurl] => sp_cellardoor.gif [clickurl] => ) [5] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 53 [name] => Carmotive [imageurl] => sp_carmotive.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.carmotive.com.au/ ) ) [2] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 44 [name] => Mordialloc Personal Trainers [imageurl] => sp_mordipt.gif [clickurl] => # ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 36 [name] => Big River [imageurl] => sp_bigriver.gif [clickurl] => ) [2] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 52 [name] => Mordialloc Travel and Cruise [imageurl] => sp_morditravel.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.yellowpages.com.au/vic/mordialloc/mordialloc-travel-cruise-13492525-listing.html ) [3] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 37 [name] => Mordialloc Cellar Door [imageurl] => sp_cellardoor.gif [clickurl] => ) [4] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 53 [name] => Carmotive [imageurl] => sp_carmotive.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.carmotive.com.au/ ) ) [3] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 41 [name] => Print House Graphics [imageurl] => sp_printhouse.gif [clickurl] => ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 49 [name] => Kim Reed Conveyancing [imageurl] => sp_kimreed.jpg [clickurl] => ) [2] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 37 [name] => Mordialloc Cellar Door [imageurl] => sp_cellardoor.gif [clickurl] => ) [3] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 53 [name] => Carmotive [imageurl] => sp_carmotive.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.carmotive.com.au/ ) ) [4] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 38 [name] => Lowe Financial Group [imageurl] => sp_lowe.gif [clickurl] => http://lowefinancial.com/ ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 58 [name] => Dicount Lollie Shop [imageurl] => new dls logo.jpg [clickurl] => ) [2] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 53 [name] => Carmotive [imageurl] => sp_carmotive.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.carmotive.com.au/ ) ) [5] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 45 [name] => Mordialloc Sporting Club [imageurl] => msc logo.jpg [clickurl] => ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 33 [name] => Two Brothers [imageurl] => sp_2brothers.gif [clickurl] => http://www.2brothers.com.au/ ) ) [6] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 46 [name] => Patterson Securities [imageurl] => cmyk patersons_withtag.jpg [clickurl] => ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 56 [name] => Logical Services [imageurl] => sp_logical.jpg [clickurl] => ) ) [7] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 59 [name] => Pure Sport [imageurl] => sp_psport.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.puresport.com.au/ ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 51 [name] => Richmond and Bennison [imageurl] => sp_richmond.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.richbenn.com.au/ ) ) [8] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 39 [name] => Main Street Mordialloc [imageurl] => main street cafe.jpg [clickurl] => ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 50 [name] => Letec [imageurl] => sp_letec.jpg [clickurl] => www.letec.biz ) ) [9] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 54 [name] => PPM Builders [imageurl] => sp_ppm.jpg [clickurl] => http://www.hotfrog.com.au/Companies/P-P-M-Builders ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [bid] => 43 [name] => Systema [imageurl] => sp_systema.gif [clickurl] => ) ) )
