  • user SID unique?

    - by Xaver
the SID term is unique or not? can two user sids on different machines in one domain system be equal? (if both of them domain users or if both of them locally users)

  • Get User SID From Logon ID (Windows XP and Up)

    - by Dave Ruske
I have a Windows service that needs to access registry hives under HKEY_USERS when users log on, either locally or via Terminal Server. I'm using a WMI query on win32_logonsession to receive events when users log on, and one of the properties I get from that query is a LogonId. To figure out which registry hive I need to access, now, I need the users's SID, which is used as a registry key name beneath HKEY_USERS. In most cases, I can get this by doing a RelatedObjectQuery like so (in C#): RelatedObjectQuery relatedQuery = new RelatedObjectQuery( "associators of {Win32_LogonSession.LogonId='" + logonID + "'} WHERE AssocClass=Win32_LoggedOnUser Role=Dependent" ); where "logonID" is the logon session ID from the session query. Running the RelatedObjectQuery will generally give me a SID property that contains exactly what I need. There are two issues I have with this. First and most importantly, the RelatedObjectQuery will not return any results for a domain user that logs in with cached credentials, disconnected from the domain. Second, I'm not pleased with the performance of this RelatedObjectQuery --- it can take up to several seconds to execute. Here's a quick and dirty command line program I threw together to experiment with the queries. Rather than setting up to receive events, this just enumerates the users on the local machine: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.Management; namespace EnumUsersTest { class Program { static void Main( string[] args ) { ManagementScope scope = new ManagementScope( "\\\\.\\root\\cimv2" ); string queryString = "select * from win32_logonsession"; // for all sessions //string queryString = "select * from win32_logonsession where logontype = 2"; // for local interactive sessions only ManagementObjectSearcher sessionQuery = new ManagementObjectSearcher( scope, new SelectQuery( queryString ) ); ManagementObjectCollection logonSessions = sessionQuery.Get(); foreach ( ManagementObject logonSession in logonSessions ) { string logonID = logonSession["LogonId"].ToString(); Console.WriteLine( "=== {0}, type {1} ===", logonID, logonSession["LogonType"].ToString() ); RelatedObjectQuery relatedQuery = new RelatedObjectQuery( "associators of {Win32_LogonSession.LogonId='" + logonID + "'} WHERE AssocClass=Win32_LoggedOnUser Role=Dependent" ); ManagementObjectSearcher userQuery = new ManagementObjectSearcher( scope, relatedQuery ); ManagementObjectCollection users = userQuery.Get(); foreach ( ManagementObject user in users ) { PrintProperties( user.Properties ); } } Console.WriteLine( "\nDone! Press a key to exit..." ); Console.ReadKey( true ); } private static void PrintProperty( PropertyData pd ) { string value = "null"; string valueType = "n/a"; if ( null == pd.Value ) value = "null"; if ( pd.Value != null ) { value = pd.Value.ToString(); valueType = pd.Value.GetType().ToString(); } Console.WriteLine( " \"{0}\" = ({1}) \"{2}\"", pd.Name, valueType, value ); } private static void PrintProperties( PropertyDataCollection properties ) { foreach ( PropertyData pd in properties ) { PrintProperty( pd ); } } } } So... is there way to quickly and reliably obtain the user SID given the information I retrieve from WMI, or should I be looking at using something like SENS instead?

  • Adding Debian Sid as Package Repository?

    - by user1131467
I am running 12.04 Precise beta (upgraded from 11.10 Oneiric) and I added the following line to my /etc/apt/source.list: deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free In order to get a newer version of a package (octave 3.6) that I needed but was not available in the precise repository. This worked fine, but now when I want to upgrade there is a large number of packages that need to get updated. I assume this is because sid has newer versions of many of the packages than precise. I've temporarily disabled the sid repository, and this works fine - however I am curious to know what would happen if I allowed all those upgrades to go through? Would it break my system? Are the structures of Ubuntu Precise and Debian Sid repositories fundamentally different somehow?

  • Searching for Windows User SID's in C#

    - by Ubiquitous Che
Context Context first - issues I'm trying to resolve are below. One of our clients has asked as to quote how long it would take for us to improve one of our applications. This application currently provides basic user authentication in the form of username/password combinations. This client would like the ability for their employees to log-in using the details of whatever Windows User account is currently logged in at the time of running the application. It's not a deal-breaker if I tell them know - but the client might be willing to pay the costs of development to add this feature to the application. It's worth looking into. Based on my hunting around, it seems like storing the user login details against Domain\Username will be problematic if those details are changed. But Windows User SID's aren't supposed to change at all. I've got the impression that it would be best to record Windows Users by SID - feel free to relieve me of that if I'm wrong. I've been having a fiddle with some Windows API calls. From within C#, grabbing the current user's SID is easy enough. I can already take any user's SID and process it using LookupAccountSid to get username and domain for display purposes. For the interested, my code for this is at the end of this post. That's just the tip of the iceberg, however. The two issues below are completely outside my experience. Not only do I not know how to implement them - I don't even known how to find out how to implement them, or what the pitfalls are on various systems. Any help getting myself aimed in the right direction would be very much appreciated. Issue 1) Getting hold of the local user at runtime is meaningless if that user hasn't been granted access to the application. We will need to add a new section to our application's 'administrator console' for adding Windows Users (or groups) and assigning within-app permissions against those users. Something like an 'Add Windows User Login' button that will raise a pop-up window that will allow the user to search for available Windows User accounts on the network (not just the local machine) to be added to the list of available application logins. If there's already a component in .NET or Windows that I can shanghai into doing this for me, it would make me a very happy man. Issue 2) I also want to know how to take a given Windows User SID and check it against a given Windows User Group (probably taken from a database). I'm not sure how to get started with this one either, though I expect it to be easier than the issue above. For the Interested [STAThread] static void Main(string[] args) { MessageBox.Show(WindowsUserManager.GetAccountNameFromSID(WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().User.Value)); MessageBox.Show(WindowsUserManager.GetAccountNameFromSID("S-1-5-21-57989841-842925246-1957994488-1003")); } public static class WindowsUserManager { public static string GetAccountNameFromSID(string SID) { try { StringBuilder name = new StringBuilder(); uint cchName = (uint)name.Capacity; StringBuilder referencedDomainName = new StringBuilder(); uint cchReferencedDomainName = (uint)referencedDomainName.Capacity; WindowsUserManager.SID_NAME_USE sidUse; int err = (int)ESystemError.ERROR_SUCCESS; if (!WindowsUserManager.LookupAccountSid(null, SID, name, ref cchName, referencedDomainName, ref cchReferencedDomainName, out sidUse)) { err = Marshal.GetLastWin32Error(); if (err == (int)ESystemError.ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER) { name.EnsureCapacity((int)cchName); referencedDomainName.EnsureCapacity((int)cchReferencedDomainName); err = WindowsUserManager.LookupAccountSid(null, SID, name, ref cchName, referencedDomainName, ref cchReferencedDomainName, out sidUse) ? • Generating new SID for Windows 7 cloned partition in Linux?

    - by Jack
So I've read that the proper way to clone a Windows 7 partition is to run a Sysprep after the clone is complete. For MANY reasons, this is not possible the way we are cloning these drives (long story short, the drive should be fully up and running after we clone it, with all the settings already there and requiring no user intervention; and no, not even an answer file would work because the way we customize all the Win7 settings is complex and we do not want the user touching the settings). I understand Microsoft will not support Windows 7 clones if it is not sysprepped and that is fine for us. Acronis recovery tools get around this by ticking an option called "Create new NT signature", which resets the SID and GUID on any restore. Symantec has a tool called Ghostwalker which does the same thing. However, we are looking for a way to do this in Linux because we want to use open source tools to do the imaging (fsarchiver, partclone, etc. basically the same tools Clonezilla uses internally to clone NTFS partitions). The question is, if we clone using these tools in Linux, how would we generate a new SID thereafter (without the use of sysprep)? Is there any way to do it within a Linux environment? The whole image process is automated so if it is a simple command that I can just throw in my shell script, that would be even better. Of course, it would be nice to know if this is even possible. Any ideas? EDIT: Forgot to mention that the target machines we are restoring the image on are EXACTLY the same.

  • Why does this mod_rewrite rule 'not-match'? (big rewrite log included)

    - by Christopher
I've got a scenario involving two domains: WordPress site hosted on domain1.com domain2.co.uk, simply redirecting users to domain1 via mod_rewrite This rule applies irrespective of whether www. is specified or not. (It's eventually removed from the URL, I'm a no-WWW fan.) There's nothing on domain2.co.uk at all except for an .htaccess with some mod_rewrite rules. However, I want to be able to allow users to be redirected to the correct article URI even if they specify the "wrong" URL (i.e., a 301 redirect preserving the stuff after the first forward slash). I'm currently achieving this with this ruleset: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^((www\.)?[^\.]+)\.domain2\.co\.uk [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain2\.co\.uk [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://domain1.com/$1 [R=301,L] This works but is uglier than I want it to be. I'm not a mod_rewrite zen master, but from what I can tell the top rule should match irrespective of whether www. is specified... But it doesn't. In order to catch www-less requests, I need the second RewriteCond. From the rewrite log, with just the first RewriteCond: [domain2.co.uk/sid#e200498][rid#e670168/initial] (3) [perdir /home/devnull/domains/domain2.co.uk/public_html/] strip per-dir prefix: why it just won't work with the one rule? I feel like I'm missing the bleeding obvious, and while the second RewriteCond is a valid workaround, it's a kludge and that annoys me. ;-) All help appreciated...

  • Telecomunication SID model and resources [on hold]

    - by andygluk
There is a SID model well-known in telecom industry. Following this model you define resources as resources owned by your enterprise, and then you build resource-oriented services on top of it and then customer-oriented services and so on... So everything is based on enterprise-owned resources, which you have to identify first. What I am looking for and what I am asking is some alternative to this model, build not on enterprise-owned resources, but on resources sell by enterprise. Say, you are selling licenses for using your products. So instead of building model on top of enterprise resources you may be interested to build it on top of licenses you are selling.

  • How to retreive SID's byte array

    - by rursw1
Hello experts, How can I convert a PSID type into a byte array that contains the byte value of the SID? Something like: PSID pSid; byte sidBytes[68];//Max. length of SID in bytes is 68 if(GetAccountSid( NULL, // default lookup logic AccountName,// account to obtain SID &pSid // buffer to allocate to contain resultant SID ) { ConvertPSIDToByteArray(pSid, sidBytes); } --how should I write the function ConvertPSIDToByteArray? Thank you!

  • Why do two patterns (/.*) and (.*) match different strings? @per-directory (.htaccess) mod_rewrite RewriteRule

Shouldn't the two patterns (/.*) and (.*) match the same string? My real question is actually: where did the "abc" go? Something funky seems to be happening inside the mod_rewrite engine... • Remove SID with ICACLS

    - by chris
I am trying to remove an obsolete SID (the account was apparently deleted). I've tried to run the following on the server (win2003) and a client (win7): icacls c:\path /remove *S-1-5-21-1883347182-1220252494-433279356-1095 /T But I always get the output Successfully processed 0 files; Failed processing 0 files without it doing anything. How can I get it to work? Update: I've used AccessEnum to get the SID because icacls only says "No mapping between account names and security IDs was done." but doesn't show the sid. The output from AccessEnum is: "Path" "Read" "Write" "Deny" "c:\path" "Administrators, S-1-5-21-1883347182-1220252494-433279356-1095, ..." "Administrators, S-1-5-21-1883347182-1220252494-433279356-1095, ..." ""

  • apache mod_rewrite rule in httpd.conf for modifying some paths, but not others

    - by wallyk
I'm having quite a challenge creating an appropriate rewrite rule for Apache/2.2.14 on Fedora 10. I'm working through the CodeIgniter-Doctrine tutorial which uses an .htaccess file. (Search for Removing “index.php” from CodeIgniter urls about 10% down.) But since that's not recommended for a production server, I'm trying to tweak it to work in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName ci_doctrine DocumentRoot /var/www/html/ci_doctrine ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/cid-error_log CustomLog /var/log/httpd/cid-access_log common <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteLog /var/log/httpd/cid_rewrite RewriteLogLevel 9 # RewriteCond ^/css/style.css$ (these have bad syntax, but that's beside the point) # RewriteRule ^/css/style.css$ /css/style.css [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] </IfModule> <IfModule !mod_rewrite.c> ErrorDocument 404 /ci_doctrine/index.php </IfModule> </VirtualHost> It seems like the tutorial .htaccess rules properly test for existing files and then not alter the URL in such cases, but the rewrite log says that the conditions are true (that is, the file does not exist) even though it's there. 127.0.0.1 - But now the path is always munged up by the rewriting, though the virtual components below index.php are properly translated. What am I doing wrong?

  • ActiveDirectory machine accounts: same SID after machine rebuild?

    - by Max
When a new Windows server machine joins a domain, AD seems to create a machine account "DOMAIN\MACHINENAME$" for that machine with a SID. If the machine gets reimaged (with another OS, here: W2K8 instead of W2K3) and then rejoins the domin, will AD re-use the existing domain account with the same SID? (Reason I'm asking is that we use some machine accounts as logins in SQL2008 databases..) Thanks Max

  • SoundManager / Jquery : Get SoundID sID

    - by j-man86
So I am trying to access a jquery soundmanager variable from one script (wpaudio.js – from the wp-audio plugin) inside of another (init.js – my own javascript). I am creating an alternate pause/play button higher up on the page and need to resume the current soundID, which is contained as part of a class name in the DOM. Here is the code that creates that class name in wpaudio.js: function wpaButtonCheck() { if (!this.playState || this.paused) jQuery('#' + this.sID + '_play').attr('src', wpa_url + '/wpa_play.png'); else jQuery('#' + this.sID + '_play').attr('src', wpa_url + '/wpa_pause.png'); } Here is the output: <img src="http://24.232.185.173/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wpaudio-mp3-player/wpa_play.png" class="wpa_play" id="wpa0_play"> where wpa0 would be the sID of the sound I need. My current script in init.js is: $('.mixesSidebar #currentSong .playBtn').toggle(function() { soundManager.pauseAll(); $(this).addClass('paused'); }, function() { soundManager.resumeAll(); $(this).removeClass('paused'); }); I need to change resumeAll to "resume(this.sID)", but I need to somehow store the sID onclick and call it in the above function. Alternately, I think a regular expression that could get the class name of the current play button and either parse the string up to the "_play" or use a trim function to get rid of "_play"– but I'm not sure how to do this. Thanks for your help!

  • Retrieve user details from Active Directory using SID

    - by er4z0r
Hi, How can I find a user in my AD when I have his/her SID. I don't want to rely on other attributes, since I am trying to detect changes to these. Example: I get a message about a change to user record containing: Message: User Account Changed: Target Account Name: test12 Target Domain: DOMAIN Target Account ID: %{S-1-5-21-3968247570-3627839482-368725868-1110} Caller User Name: Administrator Caller Domain: DOMAIN Caller Logon ID: (0x0,0x62AB1) Privileges: - I want to notify the user about the change. So I need their account-information from AD. When I try to retrieve the user's data from AD via VBScript like this: Wscript.StdOut.writeLine "Found an Account ID: " & objMatch.value Set objUser = GetObject("LDAP://GUID=1521396824757036278394823687258681110") Wscript.StdOut.writeLine objUser I receive an error stating The handle is invalid Code:80070006

  • How to bind old user's SID to new user to remain NTFS file ownership and permissions after freshly reinstall of Windows?

    - by LiuYan ??
Each time we reinstalled Windows, it will create a new SID for user even the username is as same as before. // example (not real SID format, just show the problem) user SID -------------------- liuyan S-old-501 // old SID before reinstall liuyan S-new-501 // new SID after reinstall The annoying problem after reinstall is NTFS file owership and permissions on hard drive disk are still associated with old user's SID. I want to keep the ownership and permission setting of NTFS files, then want to let the new user take the old user's SID, so that I can access files as before without permission problem. The cacls command line tool can't be used in such situation, because the file does belongs to new user, so it will failed with Access is denied error. and it can't change ownership. Even if I can change the owership via SubInACL tool, cacls can't remove the old user's permission because the old user does not exist on new installation, and can't copy the old user's permission to new user. So, can we simply bind old user's SID to new user on the freshly installed Windows ? On this I have configured SenderID + SPF milter, by referring to http://www.postfix.org/MILTER_README.html The command that I used is as follows: ./sid-filter -u postfix -p inet:10027@localhost -l Following are my settings in main.cf file: #Milter support for smtpd mail smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:10027, inet:localhost:10028 # Milters for non-SMTP mail. non_smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:10027, inet:localhost:10028 milter_default_action = reject # Postfix . 2.6 #milter_protocol = 6 # 2.3 . One of the similar postfix(as in step 1) that is setup behind one of the corporate firewalls is not able to receive any mails and is giving following type of error logs: connect from xxxxxx.austin.hp.com[xx.xxx.96.198] May 25 13:20:02 g2t0385g postfix/smtpd[11733]: C11F9B0194: client=xxxxxxx.austin.hp.com[15.217.96.198] May 25 13:20:03 g2t0385g postfix/cleanup[11814]: C11F9B0194: message-id= May 25 13:20:03 g2t0385g postfix/cleanup[11814]: C11F9B0194: milter-reject: END-OF-MESSAGE from xxxxxx.austin.hp.com[xx.xxx.96.198]: 5.7.1 Command rejected; from= to= proto=ESMTP helo= Here the 'sid-filter' is giving problems. Any idea, what I am doing wrong? Please help. Thanks in advance Ashish Sharma

  • Find Users E-Mail via SID using VBScript and Active Directory

    - by er4z0r
Hi, I am parsing log messages about changes to user accounts on a windows system. I want to notify the user about the changes so I need to retrieve their personal information (First,Last, E-Mail) from Active Directory. I already found a way to retrieve the username but that is only via WMI and not ADSI: Function FindUser(Message) Dim objWMIService Dim strAccountRegex Dim objRegex Dim objMatch Dim strComputer Dim objUser Dim objShell strAccountRegex = "(\%\{[A-Z,0-9,\-]*\})" strComputer = "." Wscript.StdOut.writeLine "Querying WMI to retrieve user-data" Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2") Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Set objRegex = new RegExp objRegex.Pattern= strAccountRegex for each objMatch in objRegex.Execute(Message) REM Wscript.StdOut.writeLine "Found an Account ID: " & objMatch.value Dim strSID strSID=NormalizeSID(objMatch.value) REM Wscript.Echo "SID after escaping: " & strSID Set objUser = objWMIService.Get _ ("Win32_SID.SID='" & strSID & "'") next FindUser=objUser.ReferencedDomainName & "\" & objUser.AccountName End Function It works fine, but I would like to do it via Active Directory instead of going via WMI. Can you help me?

  • How to prevent session hijacking with SID (CGI perl)

    - by Gnippots
I have a web app used by a small number of people (internal only) and am using a randomised sessionID that is stored under the user record and placed in various links. I have had a problem where users are sending links to each other which is allowing them to hijack the sender's session. What are some ways of preventing this from happening while still letting users send links to one another? Edit: The session ID in the link (which also contains $username) is just compared to what is stored in the User table. &incorrectLogin just prints an error followed by die; if ($sid) { $sth = $dbh->prepare("SELECT * FROM tbl_User WHERE UserID = '$username'"); $sth->execute(); $ref = $sth->fetchrow_hashref(); $session_chk = $ref->{'usr_sessionID'}; unless ($sid eq $session_chk) {&incorrectLogin;} } The problem is that if someone uses a link that is created by someone else, the page will load as them. I am not using cookies, and I recall being told in the past that CGI perl cookie handling is quite poor.
