  • New article available in "SOA Suite Essentials for WLI Users" series: Dynamic Data Lookup in a Busin

    - by simone.geib
It is my pleasure to announce the publishing of another article in our "SOA Suite Essentials for WLI Users" series: "Dynamic Data Lookup in a Business Process: Meta Data Cache Control in Oracle WebLogic Integration and Domain Value Maps in SOA Suite". This article explains how dynamic data can be retrieved in a business process using Domain Value Maps in SOA Suite and shows the similarities to the WLI XML MetaData Cache Control. Lots of customers have asked about this comparison and I hope they will find it useful. The article follows "Setting Web Service and JCA Adapter Endpoints Dynamically in Oracle SOA Suite" which describes how web services and JCA adapter endpoints in SOA Suite can be changed at run-time, and so completes the use case where a BPEL process writes to a file (via file adapter) and the output directory and the file name are set dynamically. Please let me know what you think about the series and this specific article.

  • Oracle SOA Suite customer panel: Successful Application Integration & SOA Projects

    - by Simone Geib
At the recent SOA Suite customer panel, Roger Brown from UNS Energy, Fabio Ravagni from Cencosud and Paras Jain from Cisco discussed their recent SOA Suite implementations, business drivers and challenges, architecture and lessons learned. Roger started by describing how UNS redesigned their internet portal to improve their customer experience and reduce manual steps in their business processes. Through the use of Oracle Service Bus, Oracle BPEL Process Manager and Oracle Business Activity Monitoring, they provided more self-service functionality, automated their business processes and increased the use of their web site by 12.98% for number of visits and 33.58% for average visit duration. The screenshot below shows the UNS architecture: > Next Fabio described the challenges Cencosud faced through continuous expansion of their business, different standards and levels of expertise and large volumes of information. By introducing Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Data Integrator and Oracle Enterprise Repository, and with the help of Oracle Consulting, they significantly simplified their integration model, reduced their maintenance effort and increased their integration governance. The picture below shows the implemented solution with so far more than 400 services in production and more than 20 ongoing projects, which will make use of the new integration platform. > Last, but not least, Paras discussed the challenges the Webex division of Cisco faced with a highly manual service fulfillment process, multiple data sources and the resulting large room for errror and delay in customer time-to-service. Through a redesign of their order fulfillment process and the introduction of Oracle SOA Suite (see below), they significantly improved their SLAs, eliminated duplicate orders, provided higher visibility into the order process and aligned business and IT. • OOW 2012 Tuesday: Hands-On Introduction to Integration and Oracle SOA Suite 11g

    - by Simone Geib
This year's SOA Suite hands on lab offers three different options, dependant on your level of expertise and interest. If you're new to SOA Suite, you should pick option 1 and learn how to build a SOA composite from the ground up, including a BPEL process, adapters, business rules and human task. The end result will be a purchase order process to be deployed through JDeveloper and tested in Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control. If you're already experienced in SOA Suite, lab option 2 walks you through setting up the components that will allow you to utilize continuous integration with your SOA Suite 11g development projects. For those who want to learn more about security in the context of SOA Suite, option 3 shows you how to secure WebLogic services and SOA composites using Oracle Web Services Manager (OWSM). Hope to see you there! Session ID: HOL9989Session Title: Hands-On Introduction to Integration and Oracle SOA Suite 11gVenue / Room: Marriott Marquis - Salon 3/4Date and Time: 10/2/12, 11:45 - 12:45

  • Oracle Open World 2012 SOA Presentations now available on OTN

    - by Simone Geib
Oracle Open World 2012 has been over for a bit more than a week now and we're catching up with post-OOW tasks while still marvelling over what I remember as the best Open World yet. We had a steady traffic at our demo pods, all hands on labs were fully booked (stay tuned for those labs), sessions were very well visited and we met innumerable customers for discussions, feedback and Q&A. If you missed any of the sessions or want to share the information with your colleagues, you can go to the Oracle Open World website and search for the respective presentation. To make it easier for you to find the SOA sessions, we posted all SOA presentations which were delivered or moderated by Oracle SOA Product Management on the Oracle Technology Network. Enjoy!

  • Web.NET: A Brief Retrospective

    - by Chris Massey
It’s been several weeks since I had the pleasure of visiting Milan, and joining 150 enthusiastic web developers for a day of server-side frameworks and JavaScript. Lucky for me, I keep good notes. Overall the day went smoothly, with some solid logistics and very attentiveorganizerss, and an impressively diverse audience drawn by the fact that the event was ambitiously run in English. This was great in that it drew a truly pan-European audience (11 countries were represented on the day, and at least 1 visa had to be procured to get someone there!) It was trouble because, in some cases, it pushed speakers outside their comfort zone. Thankfully, despite a slightly rocky start, every session I attended was very well presented, and the consensus on the day was that the speakers were excellent. While I felt that a lot of the speakers had more that they wanted to cover, the topics were well-chosen, every room constantly had a stack of people in it, and all the sessions were pleasingly focused on code & demos. For all that the language barriers occasionally made networking a little challenging, organizerss Simone & Ugo nailed the logistics. Registration was slick, lunch was plentiful, and session management was great. The very generous Rui was kind enough to showcase a short video about Glimpse in his session, which seemed to go down well (Although the audio in the rooms was a little under-powered). Because I think you might need a mid-week chuckle, here are some out-takes.: And lets not forget the Hackathon. The idea was what having just learned about a stack of interesting technologies, attendees could spend an evening (fuelled by pizza and some good Github beer) hacking something together using them. Unfortunately, after a (great)10-hour day, and in many cases facing international travel in the morning, many of the attendees headed straight for their hotel rooms. This idea could work so beautifully, and I’m excited to see how it pans out in 2013. On top of the slick sessions, getting to finally meet Ugo and Simone in the flesh as a pleasure, as was the serendipitous introduction to the most excellent Rui. They’re all fantastic guys who are passionate about the web, and I’m looking forward to finding opportunities to work with them. Simone & Ugo put on a great event, and I’m excited to see what they do next year.

  • Web.NET is Closing Fast

    - by Chris Massey
The voting for sessions has now closed, and sadly only half of the potential sessions could make it through. On the plus side, the sessions that floated to the top look great and, with the votes in, Simone and Ugo have moved right along and created a draft agenda to whet our appetites. Take a look, and let them know what you think. I’d also strongly recommend that you get ready to grab your tickets when they become available next week (specifically, September 18th), as places are going to be snapped up fast. In case you need a reminder as to why Web.NET is worth your time: Complete focus on web development Awesome sessions All-night hackathon Free (although I urge you to make a donation to help Simone and Ugo create the best possible event) Put October 20th in your calendar, and start packing. I’ve already booked my flights, and am perusing the list of hotels while I eat my lunch. Bonus Material There will be a full day of RavenDB training on Monday the 22nd of October, run by Ayende himself, and attending Web.NET will get you a 30% discount on the cost of the session.

  • Mpi function define

    - by Simone
I wrote a program in c using MPI (Message Passing Inteface) that compute recursively the inverse of a lower triangular matrix. Every cpu sends 2 submatrices to other two cpus, they compute them and they give them back to the cpu caller. When the cpu caller has its submatrices it has to perform a matrix multiplication. In the recurrence equation the bottle neck is matrix multiplication. I implemented parallel multiplication with mpi in c but i'm not able to embed it into a function. Is it possible? thanks, Simone

  • Event OnClick for a button in a custom notification

    - by Simone
I have a custom notification with a button. To set the notification and use the event OnClick on my button I've used this code: //Notification and intent of the notification Notification notification = new Notification(R.drawable.stat_notify_missed_call, "Custom Notification", System.currentTimeMillis()); Intent mainIntent = new Intent(getBaseContext(), NotificationActivity.class); PendingIntent pendingMainIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(getBaseContext(), 0, mainIntent , 0); notification.contentIntent = pendingMainIntent; //Remoteview and intent for my button RemoteViews notificationView = new RemoteViews(getBaseContext().getPackageName(), R.layout.remote_view_layout); Intent activityIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_CALL, Uri.parse("tel:190")); PendingIntent pendingLaunchIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(getBaseContext(), 0, activityIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT); notificationView.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.button1, pendingLaunchIntent); notification.contentView = notificationView; notificationManager.notify(CUSTOM_NOTIFICATION_ID, notification); With this code I've a custom notification with my custom layout...but I can't click the button! every time I try to click the button I click the entire notification and so the script launch the "mainIntent" instead of "activityIntent". I have read in internet that this code doesn't work on all terminals. I have tried it on the emulator and on an HTC Magic but I have always the same problem: I can't click the button! My code is right? someone can help me? Thanks, Simone

  • Transitioning to asynchronous programming model

    - by Simone
our team is mantaining and developing a .NET web service written in C#. We have stress tested the web service's farm and we have evidence that the actual architecture doesn't scale well, as the number of request are constantly increasing. We analyzed Martin Fowler's conclusion in this article, and our team feels that migrating to an asynchronous programming model such as the one described could be the right direction to point to for our service too. My question is: do you think that this "switch" needs a complete rewrite of the application? Has been someone of you been able to adopt APM without rewriting everything and has some insight to share? Thank you in advance

  • Strategy to find bottleneck in a network

    - by Simone
Our enterprise is having some problem when the number of incoming request goes beyond a certain amount. To make things simpler, we have N websites that uses, amongst other, a local web service. This service is hosted by IIS, and it's a .NET 4.0 (C#) application executed in a farm. It's REST-oriented, built around OpenRasta. As already mentioned, by stress testing it with JMeter, we've found that beyond a certain amount of request the service's performance drop. Anyway, this service is, amongst other, a client itself of other 3 distinct web services and also a client for a DB server, so it's not very clear what really is the culprit of this abrupt decay. In turn, these 3 other web services are installed in our farm too, and client of other DB servers (and services, possibly, that are out of my team control). What strategy do you suggest to try to locate where the bottleneck(s) are? Do you have any high-level suggestions?

I’ve been trying everything; this is the last chance I have. I moved folders and files from an old Windows Server 2003 File Server to a new FS (Win Server 2008 R2) with DFS and ABE enabled. Now, a specific Shared Excel file is driving me crazy, out of a sudden, lots of times per day, users are getting the following error while opening that file: Filename.xlsx is locked for editing by ‘another user’. Open ‘Read-Only’ or, click ‘Notify’ to open.. I’ve already followed this, with no joy: http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2012/05/14/the-definitive-locked-file-post.aspx In any case, I strongly think this is not client-related, since it never gave that problem in the past with Windows Server 2003. I’ve found and followed many other solutions, nothing. The users are all utilizing Office 2010 on Windows 7 machines, besides a few users who are still on Windows XP machines. I appreciate any help, thank you!

I’ve found and followed many other solutions, nothing. The users are all utilizing Office 2010 on Windows 7 machines, besides a few users who are still on Windows XP machines. I appreciate any help, thank you!

  • "Unable to open MRTG log file" error with nagios and mrtg

    - by Simone Magnaschi
We have a strange issue with our setup of icinga / nagios and mrtg. Icinga is working great and has no problem, it can monitor basically everything without issues. We setup mrtg to gather bandwith data from our routers and switches. MRTG is working fine: it stores the log data in the /var/www/mrtg/ directory and displays the graph data via web. We assume so MRTG is doing great. We tried to setup bandwidth checks in nagios: define service{ use generic-service ; Inherit values from a template host_name zywall-agora service_description ZYWALL AGORA TRAFFICO check_command check_local_mrtgtraf!/var/www/mrtg/x.x.x.x_2.log!AVG!1000000,2000000!5000000,5000000!1000 check_interval 1 ; Check the service every 1 minute under normal conditions retry_interval 1 ; Re-check every minute until its final/hard state is determined } Where /var/www/mrtg/x.x.x.x_2.log is the correct log path file. We keep on getting Unable to open MRTG log file error in the test result in icinga web interface. We tried everything: give ownership to user nagios or icinga to the log file give chmod 777 to the file try to copy the file in another directory and give it full permission Same error. The strange thing is that if we use the command that nagios generate in a bash session the command works like a charm: /usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_mrtgtraf -F /var/www/mrtg/x.x.x.x_2.log -a AVG -w 10,20 -c 5000000,5000000 -e 10 Result: Traffic WARNING - Avg. In = 17.9 KB/s, Avg. Out = 5.0 KB/s|in=17.877930KB/s;10.000000;5000000.000000;0.000000 out=5.000000KB/s;20.000000;5000000.000000;0.000000 We ran that command line as root, as user nagios and as user icinga and all three worked ok. We thought that the command that nagios perform maybe has something wrong in it, so we debugged nagios but we found out that the generated command from nagios is the same as above. Searching on google for these kind of problem returns only issues of systems where mrtg is not installed or issues with the wrong path to the log file, but these seems not to be our case. We are stuck, can somebody help?

  • Backup software for Mac OS X

    - by Simone Carletti
Which backup software do you recommend for Mac OS X? As you probably know, Leopard comes with an integrated backup tool called Time Machine. It works pretty well despite it misses some advanced restore/search features. Here's a list of backup software for Mac OS X: Time Machine (integrated) Carbon Copy Cloner (free) SuperDuper (commercial) iBackup (free) Do you know more? What software do you use and which feature can't you live without?

  • Spam daily report on servers using sendmail

    - by Simone Magnaschi
Hello, we'd like to implement a daily spam report to our users like Dreamhost does. Basically we need to send a daily mail (at midnight for example) to inform a single user of all the emails currently in his spam folder with the related score to let them look right away if there's a false positive. We use a basic sendmail server with procmail to redirect spam to the spam folder in each home directory. Do you know if is there a perl script or some other tool that does just that? Thank you very much

  • Upgrading Ubuntu hardy to Ruby 1.8.7

    - by Simone Carletti
My server is running Ubuntu Hardy and Ruby 1.8.6 installed using aptitude. I'd like to upgrade to Ruby 1.8.7 but, unfortunately, the Ruby package includes Ruby 1.8.7 starting from Ubuntu Intrepid. I read a couple of tutorials about how to upgrade to Ruby 1.8.7 and I found at least 3 different way to accomplish this task: backports installation from source installation from source and multiple versions I'm a bit confused. How do you recommend to upgrade to Ruby 1.8.7 taking into consideration I don't need multiple Ruby versions on the same server? I'd like to cleanly replace the existing Ruby 1.8.6 with Ruby 1.8.7.

  • Dynamically set current domain in nginx with perl module

    - by Simone Margaritelli
i know how to set variables and use subroutines with the nginx builtin perl module INSIDE a "server" directive but, what i need to do is to set/rewrite the current domain before ... let's say, we have a domain like admin.foobar.website.com i want that a request to foobar.othersite.com points to the first address ( obviously website.com and othersite.com are hosted on the same webserver running nginx :) ). For reasons i can't explain here, i can not use multiple server_name directive expressions, i have to do this before the server {} block, with perl or anyway possible. Thanks
