  • Pro Google App Engine developer interview questions (with answers)

    - by WooYek
What are good questions to determine if applicant is pro Google App Egine developer? Questions that can distinguish that someone is not an ad-hoc GAE programmer, but is really doing professional GAE development, with all areas concerned (eg. performance, transactions, async/batch data processing). Please provide answers, so an intermediate developer (such as myself :) can interview someone more experienced. Please avoid open questions. If possible please provide a link to a documentation part that's covering a topic in question. Please keep one interview question/answer per response for better reading experience and easier interview preparation.

  • FIM 2010 GAL MA - It appears this forest is not exchange enabled.

    - by WooYek
I am trying to configure a Management Agent (MA) for Global Address List (GAL) sync in FIM 2010. I cannot move to the next step from "Configure GAL" because of an error message saying "It appears this forest is not exchange enabled". Nothing I change on "Configure GAL" step is changing this behavior. I'am configuring a standalone test lab. I have a Windows 2008 R2 x64 Server, promoted to a DC and SQL 2008 SP1 installed, DNS is also running locally. I have tried to install Exchange 2010 and 2007, but there is no difference. AD MA works fine. Any ideas what did I screw up?

  • How to backup GMail contacts with avatars?

    - by WooYek
I have a an Android phone synced with GMail account, once or twice all my contacts where deleted from both. Fortunately I had a CSV backup of those contacts, unfortunately I made custom avatars for some of those contacts, and these are gone. How to do a complete backup of contacts (with avatars) so they can be kept safe? PS. I occasionally use Outlook 2007 via IMAP connection, maybe it can be utilized somehow?

  • What are best practices on virtual lab/test bed architecture?

    - by WooYek
I am currently preparing a new small virtual environment for development and testing with Windows Server + SQL Server + AD + Sharepoint + Exchange + IIS(ASP.NET) + Biztalk + ?, for a small (up to 5) dev team. What are pros and cons on different approaches, eg. splitting up over different machines or packing everything up per machine. I your experience what are the best practices I should follow in terms of architecture and various system/servers placement. What to share and what to split per person. I would like to achieve some flexibility for the dev and testing process (so teammebers would not be steeping on each other's toes) and limit administrative effort needed to propagate settings, integrate work items and revert changes when something breaks up. It's not supposed to be an everyday development working environment, more a tier 2 developer testing environment, and not yet an integration or QA testing environment with formal change process. IMO the two borderline solutions are: creating one all-inclusive machine for each dev team member giving them freedom to manage creating shared environment managed by the one with somehow formalized change request process What golden mean would you recommend, and why?

  • How to create a chained differencing disk of another differencing disk in Virtual Box?

    - by WooYek
How to create a differencing disk (a chained one) from a disk that is already a differencing image? I would like to have: W2008 (base immutable) - W2008+SQL2008 (differencing, with SQL installed) --- This I can do. - W2008+SQL2008+SharePoint (chained differencing with Sharepoint installed on top of SQL2008) There's some info about it the manual: http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch05.html#diffimages Differencing images can be chained. If another differencing image is created for a virtual disk that already has a differencing image, then it becomes a "grandchild" of the original parent. The first differencing image then becomes read-only as well, and write operations only go to the second-level differencing image. When reading from the virtual disk, VirtualBox needs to look into the second differencing image first, then into the first if the sector was not found, and then into the original image.* I don't get it...

  • Chrome won't start - Windows 7 x64 is complaining about compatibility

    - by WooYek
Suddenly Chrome browser does not start, my Windows 7 x64 is complaining: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer’s system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. Reinstalling did not help. The things that changed and I have noticed are system updates and Java update. Any ideas, what to do to resolve the issue or troubleshoot it?

  • Must have JavaScript pro developer tools, libs, utilities and workshop configuration.

    - by WooYek
This is a followup question to the Pro JavaScript programmer interview questions (with answers). What is considered professional and industrial standard for a professional browser side Java Script developer when it comes to his workshop configuration, and maybe from-concept-to-shipment process? What are the most popular IDE's, utilities and probably libraries, not limited to the free ones. These that can help cut development time (eg. IDE), help with achieve better quality (eg. unit testing tools), reliability and maintainability. I'm looking for a baseline to which I could compare potential candidates based on their ability to keep their tools sharp and workshop efficient (pro's should invest time&money in good tools, right?).

I was looking for such logo on http://pm4success.com but with no result. PS. • How to finish a broken data upload to the production Google App Engine server?

    - by WooYek
I was uploading the data to App Engine (not dev server) through loader class and remote api, and I hit the quota in the middle of a CSV file. Based on logs and progress sqllite db, how can I select remaining portion of data to be uploaded? Going through tens of records to determine which was and which was not transfered, is not appealing task, so I look for some way to limit the number of record I need to check. Here's relevant (IMO) log portion, how to interpret work item numbers? [DEBUG 2010-03-30 03:22:51,757 bulkloader.py] [Thread-2] [1041-1050] Transferred 10 entities in 3.9 seconds [DEBUG 2010-03-30 03:22:51,757 adaptive_thread_pool.py] [Thread-2] Got work item [1071-1080] <cut> [DEBUG 2010-03-30 03:23:09,194 bulkloader.py] [Thread-1] [1141-1150] Transferred 10 entities in 4.6 seconds [DEBUG 2010-03-30 03:23:09,194 adaptive_thread_pool.py] [Thread-1] Got work item [1161-1170] <cut> [DEBUG 2010-03-30 03:23:09,226 bulkloader.py] [Thread-3] [1151-1160] Transferred 10 entities in 4.2 seconds [DEBUG 2010-03-30 03:23:09,226 adaptive_thread_pool.py] [Thread-3] Got work item [1171-1180] [ERROR 2010-03-30 03:23:10,174 bulkloader.py] Retrying on non-fatal HTTP error: 503 Service Unavailable

  • What's faster Model.get(keys) or Model.get_by_id(ids, parent=None)

    - by WooYek
I'm wondering is there a difference in terms of computing cost for the Model.get(keys) and Model.get_by_id(ids, parent=None) methods? Is there a server side computing advantage of using numeric id's over encoded string keys, or other way around? How big is the difference? PS. Sorry, if it's a dupe. I'm sure I read an article about it, but I cannot find it now.

  • Google maps not showing satellite background - streets on white background.

    - by WooYek
    Custom map is broken on satellite view, does not show satellite imagery. Any ideas, what's wrong? Overlays are also broken - they're not transparent. Code: <div id="map_canvas" class="grid_8 omega" style="width:460px; height: 420px"></div> <script src="http://maps.google.com/maps?file=api&amp;v=3&amp;sensor=true&amp;key=my-key-is-here" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function initialize() { if (GBrowserIsCompatible()) { var map = new GMap2(document.getElementById("map_canvas")); map.setCenter(new GLatLng(52.229676, 21.012229), 13); map.setMapType(G_HYBRID_MAP); map.setUIToDefault(); } var geocoder = new GClientGeocoder(); function showAddress(address) { geocoder.getLatLng(address, function(point) { if (!point) { alert('Nie mozna znalezc adresu: '+address); } else { map.setCenter(point, 13); var marker = new GMarker(point); map.addOverlay(marker); marker.openInfoWindowHtml(address); } } ); } showAddress('some address goes here') } $('body').ready(initialize); $('body').unload(GUnload); </script>

  • Is HTTP 404 appropriate for out of range page number on paged content?

    - by WooYek
I have a site that is mainly showing a paged list of content (articles, data element's, etc.), and I'm wondering about returning HTTP 404 when user navigates outside of the available list range. Some sites just display "No results/Page number out of range" and some return additionally return HTTP 404 status. What's your take on that, and why? UPDATE It's not and api response. This question is in regard to user viewed pages that among other things show a list/table in the main area.
