  • Creating Java Neural Networks

    - by Tori Wieldt
A new article on OTN/Java, titled “Neural Networks on the NetBeans Platform,” by Zoran Sevarac, reports on Neuroph Studio, an open source Java neural network development environment built on top of the NetBeans Platform. This article shows how to create Java neural networks for classification. From the article:“Neural networks are artificial intelligence (machine learning technology) suitable for ill-defined problems, such as recognition, prediction, classification, and control. This article shows how to create some Java neural networks for classification. Note that Neuroph Studio also has support for image recognition, text character recognition, and handwritten letter recognition...”“Neuroph Studio is a Java neural network development environment built on top of the NetBeans Platform and Neuroph Framework. It is an IDE-like environment customized for neural network development. Neuroph Studio is a GUI that sits on top of Neuroph Framework. Neuroph Framework is a full-featured Java framework that provides classes for building neural networks…”The author, Zoran Sevarac, is a teaching assistant at Belgrade University, Department for Software Engineering, and a researcher at the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence at Belgrade University. • Thunderbird doesn't show folders on a new Dovecot install

    - by Zoran Zaric
Hey, I set up a new mailserver with postfix and Dovecot some days ago, everything is working except for Thunderbird not showing any folders. Evolution shows me all folders. I migrated from a Courier install using imapsync. In the filesystem the folders don't have a INBOX in their name, so the tho folders ar called .Folder 1 not .INBOX.Folder 1. • Why would ssh fail to expand %h variable in .ssh/config?

    - by Zoran
Why would ssh fail to expand %h from .ssh/config? This used to work and still works except on a RHEL box. Looking for what the origin of this could be. Is there a setting somewhere that tells ssh to not expand %h? I have something like this in my .ssh/config: Host *.foo HostName %h.mydomain.com On the RHEL box where this doesn't work, I get this: $ ssh -vvvv bar.foo OpenSSH_5.3p1, OpenSSL 1.0.0-fips 29 Mar 2010 debug1: Reading configuration data /home/zsimic/.ssh/config debug1: Applying options for *.foo debug1: Applying options for *.foo debug1: Applying options for * debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for * debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 ssh: Could not resolve hostname %h.mydomain.com: Name or service not known

  • How to install DBD::mysql on OS X Server 10.6?

    - by Zoran Simic
Trying to install DBD::mysql on OS X Server 10.6 (mac mini server). But I'm missing the mysql headers apparently. Since mysql is already part of OS X Server 10.6, I would like to NOT install anything else (no fink or darwin ports installs), just whatever's needed to get DBD::mysql installed and working. (again: I don't want to install another version of mysql on the box, want to use the version it came with). Is there a way to install DBD::mysql without compiling any C files? • Can't re-mount existing RAID10 on Ubuntu

    - by Zoran
I saw similar questions, but didn't find what solution to my problem. After power-cut, one of RAID10 (4 disks were) appears to be malfunctioning. I make tha array active one, but can not mount it. Always the same error: mount: you must specify the filesystem type So, here is what I have when type mdadm --detail /dev/md0 /dev/md0: Version : 00.90.03 Creation Time : Tue Sep 1 11:00:40 2009 Raid Level : raid10 Array Size : 1465148928 (1397.27 GiB 1500.31 GB) Used Dev Size : 732574464 (698.64 GiB 750.16 GB) Raid Devices : 4 Total Devices : 3 Preferred Minor : 0 Persistence : Superblock is persistent Update Time : Mon Jun 11 09:54:27 2012 State : clean, degraded Active Devices : 3 Working Devices : 3 Failed Devices : 0 Spare Devices : 0 Layout : near=2, far=1 Chunk Size : 64K UUID : 1a02e789:c34377a1:2e29483d:f114274d Events : 0.166 Number Major Minor RaidDevice State 0 8 16 0 active sync /dev/sdb 1 0 0 1 removed 2 8 48 2 active sync /dev/sdd 3 8 64 3 active sync /dev/sde At the /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf I have by default, scan all partitions (/proc/partitions) for MD superblocks. alternatively, specify devices to scan, using wildcards if desired. • Varnish -> Nginx -> Apache a good idea?

    - by Zoran Zaric
Hey, I'm thinking about the architecture for a new Webserver. Would having Varnish as a cache in front of Nginx as a reverse-proxy and serving static files in front of apache for all heavy lifting be a good idea? I'm going to run php and ruby on rails applications. Will there be too much overhead passing php requests to apache through two other processes? Thanks a lot!

  • How to migrate OS X user from client to server?

    - by Zoran Simic
I've recently acquired a mac mini server. Would like to migrate my existing (regular OS X) account to the server. I've created a user with same short name on the server side, but can't use it from my client for some reason. Also it is not clear how to add a machine to Workgroup Manager. Would you have a good resource/article to read to find out how to do this properly?

  • OS X server 10.6 - how to restore default groups?

    - by Zoran Simic
I've set up my OS X server as an open directory master first, then (experimenting), I've changed it to standalone server, then set it back as an open directory master again. Now, all the default groups I saw before are gone (Domain Administrators, Domain users etc). Do you know how to restore these groups? Note that the groups are gone only from the Workgroup Manager UI. They do seem to be still there otherwise. id -G gives the usual list of groups. If I create an account and makes its primary group 'staff', Workgroup Manager shows all the inherited groups properly (but not on the main list). If I create an account and associate it to a new group I just created, then the account has no inherited groups...

  • Will Apple bundle the Mono Touch runtime with every iPhone?

    - by Zoran Simic
It strikes me as a good idea for Apple to negotiate with Novell and bundle the Mono Touch runtime (only the runtime of course) into every iPhone and iPod Touch. Perhaps even make it a "one time install" that automatically gets downloaded from the App Store the first time one downloads an app build with Mono Touch, making every subsequent Mono Touch app much lighter to download (without the runtime). Doing so would be similar in a way to adding Bootcamp to OS X: it would make it easier for C# developers to join the party, but that wouldn't mean these developers will all stick to C#... What convinced me to buy a Mac is Bootcamp - I figured I could always install Windows if I didn't like OS X (and I liked the hardware, so no problem there). 6 months later, I'm using OS X full time... Would there be any technical issues in doing so? I see only advantages for all parties, not one disadvantage to anyone (except maybe for the few unfortunate Apple employees who would have to test the crap out of the Mono Touch runtime before bundling it): Novell wins because Mono Touch becomes much more viable (Mono Touch apps become much lighter all of the sudden) Developers win because now there's one more tool in the tool belt Many C# Developers would be very interested by this Apple wins because that would bring even more attention to the platform, more revenue in developer fees, more potential great apps, etc Users win because less space is used by different Apps having copies of the same runtime accumulating on their devices Would there be a major technical obstacle in bundling Mono Touch to iPhone OS? Edit: Changed the title from "Should" to "Will Apple bundle the runtime?", I think the consensus on predicting that means a lot to those considering going with Mono Touch.

  • cakephp hasMany through and multiselect form

    - by Zoran Kalinic
I'm using cakephp 2.2.2 and I have a problem with the editing view Models and relationships are: Person hasMany OrganizationPerson Organization hasMany OrganizationPerson OrganizationPerson belongs to Person,Organization A basic hasMany through relationship as found within cake documentation. Tables are: people (id,...) organizations (id,...) organization_people (id, person_id,organization_id,...) In the person add and edit forms there is a select box allowing a user to select multiple organization. The problem I have is, when a user edits an existing person, the associated organizations aren't pre-selected. Here is the code in the PeopleController: $organizations = $this->Person->OrganizationPerson->Organization->find('list'); $this->set(compact('organizations')); Related part of the code in the People/edit code looks like: $this->Form->input('OrganizationPerson.organization_id', array('multiple' => true, 'empty' => false)); This will populate the select field, but it does not pre-select it with the Person's associated organizations. Format and content of the $this-data: Array ( [Person] => Array ( [id] => 1 ... ) [OrganizationPerson] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [id] => 1 [person_id] => 1 [organization_id] => 1 ... ) [1] => Array ( [id] => 2 [person_id] => 1 [organization_id] => 2 ... ) ) ) What I have to add/change in the code to get pre-selected organizations? Thanks in advance!
