What are the pay as you go (prepay) options in the USA for a USB 3G mobile internet dongle?

I travel between the UK and US a lot, I'm looking for a pay as you go (prepay) USB 3G modem for mobile internet that I can use with my laptop while in the States that is reasonably priced.

In the UK with O2 I can buy the usb dongle for £10 then it's £2 for 24hours/500mb whenever I choose to use it, no other costs. Is there anything like this in the USA?
